Chapter 16

The weddings in both eras were perfect, with everything going off without a hitch. Inuyasha and Kagome spent some extra time with her family and friends in the modern era after the ceremony, to have a good time at the after-party. Then they went back through the well and did it all over again in front of their closest friends of the past.

Once all of the excitement of the day was over,  Inuyasha and Kagome walked towards thier new home, hand in hand. Kagome was smiling the entire way, feeling happy and fully content with how her life has gone.

When they neared on their destination, Inuyasha picked Kagome up bridal style and carried her  through the threshold of their home. Kagome was laughing and smiling as her husband let her back down inside, before kissing her over and over again.

They kept their lips locked slowly and sensually as they began to walk towards their sleeping quarters. Inuyasha is carefully undressing Kagome's wedding kimono while Kagome is undressing  his  men's wedding attire.

One by one, a piece of clothing hits the floor beneath their feet as Inuyasha slowly walks Kagome backwards and towards their bed.

Once they are both fully undressed and buzzing with excitement and happiness, they fall to the mattress in a heep together, Inuyasha half on top of her. Kagome laughs and Inuyasha smirks. She pulls his face back down to hers to kiss him with much more fervor then before.

She pulls back to stare into his golden gaze happily. "I love you, Inuyasha."

Inuyasha grins as he strokes her hair lovingly. "I love you too, my wife."

He kisses her again as he lowers one of his clawed hands down her body. He pinches a nipple, making her moan into his mouth, before lowering more and more. He begins to lightly stroke her folds to get her fully ready for him. He climbs fully on top of her and as he lines himself up with her wettened core, he looks back down into her eyes.

Kagome was in absolute heaven. They were finally going to go all the way. After all these months of waiting, she is going to be with Inuyasha. When he looks back down at her, she looks up at him confusedly for a second, his facial expressions seemed to have changed completely. One second he was kissing her and loving on her, and the next he was looking at her as if he doesn't even know her.

"Inuyasha?" She lifts her hands, the left one to cup his cheek, and the right to lightly stroke his furry ear. "Make love to me?"

He looks at her with absolutely no emotion for a second, before utter disgust comes over his features. He sits back on his knees and looks down at her confused face.

"Why would I do that?"

Kagome looked at him with shock and hurt, tears already stinging her eyes. She sits up and pulls the covers up and over her exposed breasts.

"Wh-What? You're my husband and we love each other..."

Inuyasha scoffed as he got up and out of the bed before quickly redressing. When he turned back to the silently crying woman, he rolled his eyes.

"Why would I want to dirty myself with an impure whore? I would much rather be with someone clean and unsullied."

He turned to the bedroom door and called out for someone. When Kagome looked at who approached, her heart sank. Her world turned upside down within a blink of an eye.

"K-Kikyo? Wh-What...?"

Inuyasha laughed as he wrapped his arm around Kikyo's waist. He looked into the older Miko's eyes and smirked.

"Do ya got it?"

Kikyo smiled back at him and nodded. "Hai, my love. Here, so we can finally be happy together." She handed him the whole Shikon no Tama.

Kagome gasped as she jumped up and out of the bed, while fully wrapped up in the blanket. "Inuyasha! What... What are you doing!?"

Inuyasha held the small pink orb between his pointer finger and thumb, out in front of his face. "What does it look like? I'm going to become human for the love of my life."

Kagome had tears streaming down her face as the Shikon no Tama began to glow a bright pink mixed with a dark purple. Inuyasha was making his wish.

"Inuyasha! Don't! I love you just the way you are! I love you as a hanyou! Please!"

She turned to Kikyo when the older Miko laughed maliciously. "Oh please. Let's face it, girl. You are nothing but a youkai whore. It doesn't matter what you think." She turned back to Inuyasha. "Do it, my love. Become human and live as my husband, forever."

Kagome stared wide-eyed as her beautiful hanyou, dog eared, golden eyed, claws and fangs, all changed. The Shikon no Tama is gone, and a black haired gray eyed human Inuyasha stands in front of her.

"Inu...?"

Inuyasha ignored her as he fully faced Kikyo. He cupped her cheeks and smiled lovingly at her, the same smile Kagome thought was reserved only for her.

Without another word, he kissed her... right in front of Kagome, the woman he had just married and swore to protect forever. Who was going to become his mate and have his pups. Who loves him with all of her heart.

She fell to her knees, the blanket long forgotten, no longer caring about her modesty. Her husband had already swept Kikyo away, probably to consummate their love. Her tears are flowing freely and her reiki is beginning to sparkle all around her...

Then she hears that voice. The one she thought was long forgotten. The one that still always haunts her thoughts and nightmares. Such malevolence and filled with such nafariousness.

"Well well well, didn't I tell you that no one would want an impure whore?"

Kagome lifted her head to look around. She was no longer in her and Inuyasha's hut, but by the Sacred Tree. She stood up, still undressed, but not really in the mood to care about that little fact anymore. She isn't really allowing herself to care about much of anything anymore...

Her eyes locked with that of her rapist. The evil man who took her from her friends and the hanyou she loves, and hurt her over and over again. Who made her believe she was enjoying such heinous acts and had her forget everyone she loved and cared about.

Yet, when she looked into his malevolent bright crimson gaze, she isn't afraid. She feels no fear, no pain, no anger. No sadness, no disgust, no contempt. She feels absolutely nothing at all. All she is able to feel at all is numb and alone.

Losing Inuyasha was worse than anything Naraku has ever done or will ever do to her. So she stares at him head on and waits. She waits for whatever Hell this man plans to bring to her this time. She doesn't care if he plans to rape her over and over. She doesn't care if he plans to kill her. The man she loves is gone and isn't coming back for her this time... So, she doesn't care what happens to her now that she has nothing else to live for.

Naraku steps up to be directly in front of her and holds out a hand. "Come, tsuma. Without the man you claim to love, there is nothing else. Come back with me and be the woman you were born to be. Mine."

Kagome looked down at his hand and then back up into his eyes. So full of malice. So full of evil and hate. But it doesn't matter. What else is there to live for? Maybe if she forgot again, she won't feel so numb and hopeless.

She reached out and grabed his hand with hers. "Yours..." she whispered as tears dribbled down her cheeks.

"No!" Kagome shot up in bed, tears running down her face and her heart is racing erratically.

Inuyasha was immediately there to help her, arms wrapped around her and calming words spoken quietly into her ear.

Kagome was shaking her head and mumbling 'no', over and over again. Inuyasha turned her face towards him and cupped her cheeks with both of his hands. When her eyes finally locked with his, she seemed to finally come back to reality.

"I-Inu...?"

Inuyasha nodded his head and pulled her in close to his chest. Kagome wrapped her arms around him and cried against him even harder then before.

"Shhh. Kagome, It's okay."

She nodded her head weakly as she took a calming breath in and out. She pulls back to look into his eyes once again, his golden eyes, and couldn't prevent more tears from falling. She pulled his face down to kiss her as if this was the last kiss she was ever going to receive from her hanyou.

Inuyasha rubbed circles along her back and stroked her hair as Kagome took what she needed. He kissed her softly and slowly, proving to her through this small action that everything is okay and will be okay.

When Kagome pulled away, she burried her face into his chest and sighed. "I... I'm sorry..."

Inuyasha nuzzled his face onto the top of her head as he allowed his mate rumble to calm her more and more. "Ya ain't got nothin' to be sorry for. I love you, Kagome."

Kagome's tears came back with a vengeance as he spoke such kind words to her. She doesn't understand where that dream had come from. Why would she dream about Inuyasha not wanting to be with her? He has made it clear that he does. Why would she dream about him turning human for Kikyo? Kikyo had told her that even she knew Inuyasha loves her; Kagome. Then dreaming about giving herself over to Naraku once again...

She shook her head to get rid of those horrifying thoughts and cuddled harder into Inuyasha's bare chest.

A few minutes of just silent cuddling later and they heard a knock at the door.

"Kagome dear, are you alright?" They heard the door knob jingle and then her mother spoke again. "Why is your door locked?"

Kagome pulled from Inuyasha and looked down at their lack of clothes before blushing crimson and hurriedly getting out of bed.

"I... I'm fine mama. I just had a bad dream. We'll be down in a minute." She purposely left out an explanation for the locked door, not really knowing what to say at the moment.

There was silence on the other side of the door for a moment before they heard her mother's tentative voice. "Alright dear. I'll make breakfast, and don't forget about your appointment."

"Hai, mama..."

They heard her walk away, having them both sigh in relief. Kagome picked up all of the evidence of shredded clothing, throwing them into the trash can by her desk. She pulled on some pajamas real quick, before she then grabbed clothes for the day and turned to the hanyou who was already almost fully dressed.

"I'm going to go take a shower now."

Inuyasha nodded as he stood in front of her. He looked down at her worriedly, moving a strand of hair from her face to behind her ear, and then nuzzling his cheek into hers.

"Are you okay, Kagome?"

Kagome sighed and nodded her head. "H-Hai. It was just a stupid dream." She pulled back and smiled up at him. "I'll be down stairs soon, okay?"

Inuyasha nodded his head and watched as she left the bedroom and went into the bathroom. His ears drooped as he finished righting his clothes, before going downstairs and into the kitchen.

Kagome got undressed and turned the hot water on in the shower. She relieved herself of her bladder before stepping in and beginning to wash herself clean. Her mind is constantly returning to that dream.

'Why would I dream something like that? I have no remaining jealousy towards Kikyo...'

She sighed as she rinsed the soap off of her body and continued with her hair. Her thoughts still stuck on that nightmare.

'Would I really give myself to Naraku if... if Inuyasha left me?' A tear escaped her eye as she held in a sob. 'Would I leave my other friends and family? Would I abandon my little Shippo?'

She finished with her hair and just sat on the edge of the tub, the hot water hitting her, calming her down slightly. She shook her head and a look of determination came to her features.

'No... I would never leave Shippo behind. Just as Inuyasha would never leave me. I won't let that bastard control my thoughts any longer.'

She wiped her eyes free of her remaining tears and turned off the shower before stepping out. She dried herself and got dressed, donning a regular long sleeve green shirt (no turtle neck), and a pair of tight jeans, over top of a matching pair of bra and panties. She brushed her teeth and hair and then looked into the mirror to try and see what Inuyasha obviously sees in her.

A beautiful, charismatic, outspoken, kind, brave and pure woman.

She took a deep breath in and out, nodded her head once, and then left the bathroom to join her fiancé and the rest of her family for breakfast.

When she made it downstairs, her family was already seated at the table. Her grandfather is at the head of the table like usual, her brother is sitting next to Inuyasha's left, and her mother is sitting across from them. She noticed Buyo is sitting underneath of the table, staring up at the hanyou who is trying to pretend that he is not giving the fat cat some table scraps. Kagome chuckled inwardly at the scene, before she walked over and sat on the other side of her mate. She gave him a small, but real smile before beginning to eat her meal.

After a quiet breakfast with her family, Mrs. Higurashi was about to take Kagome and Inuyasha to her psychiatry appointment when they heard a knock at the door. Kagome was closest, so she opened it and smiled at the young girl in front of her.

"Ayumi, hi. We were just about to head out."

Ayumi nodded her head and smiled. "Hai... I knew you said you had an appointment and so do I, so I was wondering if you'd like to go together?"

Kagome turned to her mother and Mrs. Higurashi smiled and nodded. "Sure dear, that won't be a problem at all."

The girls smiled as Kagome pulled the red baseball cap from the rack and placed it over Inuyasha's ears. He grumbled something ineligible, causing the young girls to giggle at his cuteness.

The four of them got into the car, with Inuyasha in the far end of the backseat, Kagome in the middle holding his hand, and Ayumi on the other side of Kagome.

Kagome rested her head on Inuyasha's shoulder and squeezed his hand. She felt him squeeze back, making her smile. She closed her eyes and breathed in and out slowly, allowing the presence of her mate, friend and mother, calm her frazzled nerves.

When they made it to the psychiatry office, they went in and got signed in before sitting down in the waiting room. Ayumi's appointment is apparently scheduled at the same time as Kagome's, just with a different psychiatrist, so the timing had worked out perfectly.

When Kagome's name was called, she held onto Inuyasha's hand and explained to her mother that she would like to do this with just him again. Mrs. Higurashi was very understanding and stayed behind to wait for her daughter to be finished.

Kagome and Inuyasha followed the psychiatrist back into her office and sat down on the couch, while the older woman sat at her computer desk.

Sana turned to the young woman and her fiancé with a warm smile. "Well, it has been two weeks since we had last seen each other, Kagome. How have you been? Better, worse, the same?"

Kagome held onto Inuyasha's hand tightly as she answered. "Um... Definitely better than before..."

Sana nodded her head and wrote down a few notes before locking her eyes back with Kagome's. "That's always good to hear. Have you had any more problems with your 'trigger' words?"

Kagome looked down at her lap as her leg started to shake a little nervously. "Uh... a few times... b-but not as much in the last week... o-other then in my dreams..." She refused to look at Inuyasha, as he began a low growl and his grip tightened on her hand.

Sana typed a few more notes in before continuing. "So, you are still having nightmares?" At Kagome's small nod, she continued. "Are these nightmares about what had happened or something else entirely?"

Kagome gulped as she glanced at Inuyasha and then back at the psychiatrist. "They have been changing... h-he comes back in these dreams, b-but in a different way each time..."

Sana nodded. "Is there something that stays consistent during these dreams? Something that bothers you even more?"

Kagome nodded her head as she kept her gaze away from Inuyasha.

Sana waited a moment for Kagome to speak, and when she didn't, she spoke up calmy. "It's okay, Kagome. You're safe here. Would you be able to summarize what scares you the most?"

Kagome closed her eyes as the tears began to burn behind her eyelids. She took a deep breath in before locking her gaze back with the nice woman in front of her.

"In every dream recently... I-Inuyasha is taken from me..."

Inuyasha's eyes widened as he pulled his hand from hers and wrapped his arm around her waist instead. He allowed his mate call to be free only loud enough for Kagome to feel it from being against him.

After Sana finished with her notes once again, she continued with her questioning. "So, you are afraid that the man who hurt you, will hurt your fiancé?"

Kagome tentatively nodded and shrugged her shoulders. "I... I g-guess..."

"You have been taking your medicine every night, right Kagome?" At Kagome's nod, Sana proceeded once again. "It seems as though you are doing a little better, but these fears are getting to you more at night. I am going to recommend increasing your Lexapro from five milligrams to ten milligrams, okay?" Kagome nodded in response as Sana typed some more important notes into her computer. "Alright, so I want you to take two of the Lexapro each night instead of just the one. I will fill a new prescription for your mother to pick up in the morning."

Kagome nodded her head, but otherwise stayed silent.

"Is there anything else you would like to discuss, Kagome?"

The young Miko shook her head as she stood up and held onto Inuyasha's arm tightly.

Sana nodded in understanding as she saw them out and said their goodbyes. "I will schedule another appointment for two weeks from now, alright?"

Kagome nodded once again. "Th-Thanks."

"I'll see you then, Kagome. Remember to allow your friends and family to be there for you. Everything will be okay in time."

Kagome nodded as her and Inuyasha walked towards where her mother was sitting and waiting for them. Kagome sat down and said she wanted to wait for Ayumi to be finished so they could hang out for a little bit. Her mother easily agreed and they waited patiently for about another ten minutes.

When Ayumi came out and saw her friends, she happily walked towards them. "Hey, how'd it go?"

Kagome gave her a small smile and nodded once. "It was... f-fine... Uhm, I was wondering if you'd like to come back with us for a while?"

Ayumi happily agreed and the four of them left to head back to the Higurashi Shrine together.

°•°•°

When they made it back to the Shrine, Kagome, Inuyasha and Ayumi went up to Kagome's room while Mrs. Higurashi made Souta some soup since he is still home from school with a cold.

Kagome sat on the bed with Inuyasha to her left, and Ayumi brought the desk chair over to sit directly in front of them.

Kagome looked over at Inuyasha and squeezed his hand. "You have to go now, don't you?"

He could easily hear the sadness in her voice even though she was trying to cover it up. He could scent her rising uneasiness at having to be separated. His ears flattened and his guilt rose higher and higher. He really does have to go to Totosai's, plus he needs to begin the foundation for their home.

"Yeah... I... I should go..."

Ayumi looked between the two of them confusedly. "Why would you need to go?"

Kagome rested her head on Inuyasha's shoulder and sighed. "He has to go back through the well to speak to someone important. He won't be back for about five days..."

Ayumi gave Kagome a small smile and said, "well, it is Friday... so I can stay here and keep you company for a few days."

Kagome nodded, smiling thankfully. She then looked back up at Inuyasha and lifted a hand to stroke his furry ear. "I love you."

Inuyasha nuzzled her cheek with his before kissing her softly. "I love ya too." He moved a strand of hair from her face to behind her ear. "Promise ya won't go throught the well until I come and get ya."

Kagome sighed, but understood his reasoning, so she nodded. "I'll stay here, Inuyasha. I promise."

Inuyasha smiled and gave her another kiss before he stood up from the bed. He picked up his Tetsusaiga and placed it back on his hip, before walking over to the window and opening it. He looked back at his mate and friend and smiled sadly.

"Take care of her for me." It was said as a sort of command, but the meaning was clear. He trusted this human girl to protect his mate while he will be away.

When Ayumi smiled and nodded, he gave a curt nod in response, before jumping out of the window and leaving towards the Bone Eaters Well.

Kagome sighed as she hugged herself protectively. Ayumi moved to the spot next to her on the bed and just sat in silent support for a few minutes.

After her silent reflection, Kagome turned to Ayumi and smiled weakly, ready to change the subject. "So... Eri invited me to the Holloween party in a couple of weeks. She tried to set me up with Hojo again." She rolled her eyes when Ayumi giggled.

"Yeah, Eri and Yuka really have a thing for setting you up with him." She looked away as her cheeks pinked just slightly.

Kagome eyed her for a moment before her eyes widened in understanding. "D-Do you... like Hojo?"

Ayumi blushed even brighter. "W-Well... I..." She shrugged her shoulders as she completely turned her face away from her friend.

Kagome giggled and grabbed Ayumi's hand. "You know I never wanted to be with him. You don't need to be embarrassed." When Ayumi looked back at her, she grinned. "Hojo is pretty cute." She laughed at Ayumi's even darker blush. "Why don't you ask him to the party with you? I already told Eri that Inuyasha and I are getting married and will be going together."

Ayumi bit her lip nervously. "B-But Hojo still likes you..."

Kagome squeezed her friend's hand reassuringly. "I told Hojo yesterday that I will be marrying Inuyasha. He was a little surprised and hurt..." Kagome looked down, feeling guilty at having to hurt him in such a way. "...but I know he will be okay." She looked back into Ayumi's hopeful eyes and smiled. "Why not give it a shot?"

Ayumi nodded and smiled back. "Okay... I... I will."

The girls giggled as they continued to talk about random topics that don't really matter to anyone but teenage girls. Kagome is happy that she can act like a normal teenager at least sometimes...

After Inuyasha had jumped out of the well in the Sengoku Jidai, he immediately ran to the village. He sniffed out his friends and found them all outside relaxing in the sun as a cool breeze flows throughout each of them.

Shippo looked up from his spot playing with Rin, and immediately ran to jump onto Inuyasha's shoulder. "Where's Kagome!?"

Inuyasha plopped down next to his friends to begin his explanation. "She uh... is stayin' home for the next five days..."

Shippo was already beginning to worry. "Why? Is she sick again?"

Inuyasha shook his head. "Nah... Uh... I told her to stay back so I can go to Totosai's. I gotta borrow Kirara, Sango."

Sango nodded her head in understanding as she told Kirara to go to Inuyasha. Kirara mewed in response before jumping into the hanyous lap.

Sango turned back to the hanyou. "Why the rush? Why can't Kagome go with you?"

Inuyasha scratched the back of his neck and looked at them all nervously. "Keh... It's dangerous. That's why."

Miroku smirked and shook his head in amusement. "I believe our friend has something he is hiding from us. What is it you are doing for our lovely Kagome-sama?"

Inuyasha growled and glowered at the monk. He stuffed his hands into the sleeves of his Suikan and huffed. "Feh. Whatever... I gotta find the old flea but... Kagome's runt of a brother said somethin' that human mates do in her time... So I gotta go get it."

Now they are all extremely interested. "Well, do pray tell, my friend."

Inuyasha blushed as he stood up, Kirara jumping off of his lap, and he put Shippo back down onto the ground. He looked away from them before speaking. "Human men give the woman a ring to put on their finger... It shows other humans that the woman is taken and gonna get married... Apparently Kagome would want one, so I'm gonna get it for her..." He shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly.

Miroku stood up and put a hand onto Inuyasha's shoulder. "Well, who knew our surly dog demon could be so romantic?"

Inuyasha's eyes snapped back and narrowed at the monk with a deadly growl leaving his throat. "I ain't romantic! It... feh, whatever. I gotta go now so I can be back in five days."

Miroku pulled his hand back and shook his head in amusement, but didn't say anything further. Sango nodded her head in understanding, knowing how embarrassed the hanyou can be when he shows his love outwardly in front of others. Shippo jumped up onto Inuyasha's shoulder once again and looked at him with his big green eyes.

"Can I come with you?"

Inuyasha eyed him for a moment before speaking. "I ain't gonna be stoppin' for rest all the time. I am gonna go straight there and straight back. Can ya handle that?"

Shippo nodded vigorously and puffed his chest out with pride. "I'm a full fledged demon! I can do it!"

"Feh... Fine. Just don't whine 'bout nothin'."

He turned back to his friends after Kirara transformed and nodded. He mumbled out a small, "Thanks," before jumping on the fire cat and flying through the air.

Sango reached over and held her fiancé's hand. "Inuyasha really has grown up since I met him."

Miroku squeezed her hand and smiled down at her. "That he has, my dear Sango." He turned back towards the young girl who is currently putting a flower crown on top of A-Uh. "Come. Let us make lunch."

Sango nodded before they walked over to grab Rin and then headed back into Kaede's hut.
