Broken

Chapter 27

Kagome is walking through Inuyasha's forest alone, but she couldn't quite remember why. She is dressed in her Miko robes and carrying a basket of herbs. She looks around herself, trying to think of the reason for her visit through the forest.

She continues on in the direction she was already headed, shaking her head free of the confusing thoughts that plagued her. She looked ahead and saw the river, deciding to stop for a quick drink.

She placed the basket onto the ground and then bent down to scoop some water into her hand to quench her sudden thirst. She swallowed a few large gulps before wiping her mouth off on the back of her hand, then standing back up and dusting her robes clean. She was about to lift her basket back up when suddenly the forest around her grew earily silent.

A moment ago, she could hear the birds singing and the bugs buzzing and the trees swaying from the light wind. Now, it's completely silent. She turned to look around and something seemed off. The sun began to set much too fast, darkness is beginning to trap her within the silence of the forest. 

Her heart started to pound within her chest and her breaths are coming in short pants. Her eyes are trying to adjust to the sudden loss of light, but to no avail. The darkness is overpowering. Usually, she can at least see something at night, shadows and outlines, but it's as if she went completely blind. She put her hands in front of her to feel around as she walked in the direction she had come from, hoping to get back to the village without incident.

Her head is darting side to side to make sure nothing is there, the feeling of wrongness is continuing to grow stronger with each passing second. Something is out there, but she can't tell what it is. 

She stumbled over a treeroot, catching herself on another tree right in front of her. Sweat is forming on her brow as it feels as if the world is closing in on her. She closes her eyes tight as she turns so her back is against the tree and then she slides down to the ground. She places her hands to the sides of her head as that terrifying feeling deep inside continues to grow. 

"Inuyasha..."

Suddenly, her world imploded at the answering voice from within the void of darkness.

"Kukuku."

Her eyes shot open as she began to hyperventilate. She shook her head to try to deny who is out there. He's dead. This isn't real. He's dead. 

She keeps saying those things over and over again in her mind, but it doesn't stop the sound of his malevolent laughter from reaching her ears. She can feel the tears falling freely down her cheeks as his laughter gets closer and closer to her, yet she still can't see a thing.

"Are you afraid, my little whore?"

Her eyes close once again as she tucks her knees up to her chest and wraps her arms protectively around herself. Maybe if she doesn't acknowledge it, it will go away. She'll wake up from this nightmare. It isn't real. He's gone. He's dead. He's gone.

"Kukuku."

His voice is now right in her ear. She tried to push it away, shove it out, pretend it isn't right there, but she can't. The more she pretends it isn't there, the louder it gets. His laughter is the only sound in the forest. The only thing she can feel is his sudden breath against her cheek. Her eyes tighten even more as her face turns to the side, trying to put as much distance between them as possible. 

She gasped as she felt his hand wrap around her throat and turned her face to be directly in front of his. 

"Open your eyes."

She whimpered and shook her head the best she could while in his grasp, but his hold on her throat only grew stronger, cutting off her airway.

"Open. Your. Eyes."

She slowly did as she was told and saw the bright red orbs of her worst nightmare. She took a gasping breath in when he allowed her some reprieve from his hold on her neck, and stared into the eyes of her tormenter.

"Good girl... Now, are you ready for me?"

Kagome knew she was outside, but it still felt as if the walls were closing in on her. She started to hyperventilate as she saw the sinister smile grace the features of the evil man before her. She shook her head and whimpered in answer, but she knew there was nothing she could do.

The worst point in her life is about to be relived.

"P-please don't." she said, knowing it was fruitless to try. She just didn't know what else to do at this point. There was nothing but darkness, other than the glowing red eyes and pearly white teeth of the man in front of her. 

Naraku laughed once again as he took her by the throat and threw her onto the ground on her back. She gasped for air, but it was knocked right out of her in the movement. She coughed a few times, tears continually streaming down her face as her legs were forced apart and the now naked man loomed over her.

She screamed when he slammed himself deep inside.

Kagome woke up gasping for breath, unbidden tears staining her cheeks and her heart beating out of her chest. She curled her body into herself, crying into her knees as she is reliving that terrible nightmare over and over again.

She doesn't notice the voice of the man trying to comfort her, only the voice in her head of the man who tormented her.

"Are you afraid, my little whore?"

"Open your eyes."

"Are you ready for me?"

Kagome's sobs increased as she was pulled into a hard chest, her body curled up against him. She doesn't know what is happening, just that she is terrified and the memory of that dream has her incapable of coherent thoughts at the moment.

Inuyasha sat up with his back against the wall and held her close to his body; his left arm under her legs and his right arm cradling her back. He is rocking her slowly against him, hoping it is helping in some way. He allowed his mate rumble out to calm her anxiety as he kissed the top of her head lovingly. He is speaking to her, trying to get her to know he is here, but she doesn't seem to comprehend anything that is going on outside of her own head.

He growled softly to himself, hating that she has to go through something like this. Maybe he should have said they shouldn't go to the stupid party. Maybe it was too much, too soon. Maybe it was a mistake.

He shook his head free of those thoughts. As much as those girls overstepped multiple times, the truth of the matter is, if they didn't go, than there would be another victim from the night before. He doesn't want any other woman to have to go through anything like that again.

His thoughts went back to the woman cradled in his arms as a heavy sigh left her lips and her sobs slowed down slightly. He nuzzled her cheek with his, a soft whine escaping him without his consent.

Kagome sniffled and took a deep breath in as she fisted the front of his shirt and pulled back just enough to look into his golden gaze. She noted how his ears are wilted and his eyes are sad. He looks every bit of a sad puppy, making her feel even worse.

"I'm sorry..."

Inuyasha shook his head as he leaned forward and nuzzled her with his face again, allowing his instincts free to do as they please. He couldn't prevent the whine from escaping once again as the scent of her tears permeated the air around them.

Kagome took a shuttering breath in and wrapped her arms around his middle, cuddling her face into the front of his neck as her heart begins to calm back down. She felt his arms tighten themselves around her and his mate rumble increase in volume, making her feel better. Making her feel safe.

'Inuyasha will always keep me safe.'

"Inuyasha..."

He nuzzled the top of her head with his cheek and let out the long puff of air he was holding. "I'm here, Kagome. I'll always be here."

She nodded against him as her eyes pinched shut to try and prevent more tears from forming. She held onto him tighter as she took his warmth and protection, giving her the strength she needs. Soon, her breathing and heart rate calmed as she fell into a dreamless sleep.

Kagome woke up a couple of hours later to the feeling of Inuyasha nuzzling under her chin with his nose. A lazy smile formed on her face at the feeling as she raised a hand to his ear and pet him softly. She cuddled closer to his chest as he let out a contented purr, giving her all the more reason to scratch the base of his ear.

As much as Inuyasha is enjoying the attention, he woke her up for a reason. She had slept through breakfast and it is now lunch time. Her mother had come up earlier to ask if everything was okay, and he explained that she had a nightmare and then went back to sleep. Her mother had given a sympathetic look before leaving and then reappearing an hour later with lunch and tea. She placed it on Kagome's side table and left as quietly as she had come.

He then began to wake her up slowly by nuzzling under her chin, hoping she isn't too upset about being disturbed. He could hear her heart rate increase from her mind being turned back on and a slight whine forming in the back of her throat. He purred as she pet and scratched behind his ear, making him nuzzle her even more. As she let out another small whine, he chuckled against her neck and pulled back to look into her beautiful brown eyes as they slowly fluttered open.

"Ya gotta eat somethin'."

Kagome lowered her hand to the front of his shirt and held the fabric within her fingers. She looked at his chest and sighed, biting her lip to keep it from trembling. "I'm not hungry right now."

Inuyasha sighed as he maneuvered them so that she is sitting between his legs with her back against his chest. He could hear the panick within her as her heart rate escalated once again, along with her breathing. He wrapped his arms around her middle and placed his chin atop her head.

"It's okay, Kagome. I ain't gonna let anythin' happen to you."

Kagome nodded weakly as she turned her head to the side to cuddle back into his chest. She brought her hands up to hold onto his Kotodama, basically as an anchor, proving to herself that he is here and that he isn't going anywhere.

Inuyasha reached over to the table and first picked up Kagome's meal. He held the bowl in front of her and nudged her face forward with his nose so she faces back forward. "Come on, 'Gome. Your mother said it's your favorite."

Kagome shook her head as she held onto him tighter. She heard his slightly irritated growl, only making her feel worse about how she is acting, but she really just needs his comfort right now. She whined when he pulled her hands off of his Kotodama and forced the bowl into her grasp. She looked down at the food, noting the amazing smell of Oden, then looked back into his serious golden gaze. She sighed and nodded her head as she faced back to the bowl, picked up the spoon and began to eat in silence.

Happy that his mate is eating, he reached over and picked up his bowl of Ramen, beginning to eat his own meal. He continuously looked over her shoulder to make sure she is eating enough before he swallows the rest of his and setting the now empty bowl on the table beside them.

Kagome turned her head to look at him behind her and sighed as she cuddled under his chin. "I'm sorry..."

Inuyasha pulled back and kissed her forehead before checking the bowl, noticing she ate most of it, then looking back into her eyes. "What're ya sorry for?"

She bit her lip as she turned back around and placed the mostly empty bowl back onto the table. Then she leaned back against his chest and closed her eyes. "I... I overreacted last night and then this morning..."

Inuyasha let out a small growl as he wrapped his arms back around her and pulled her closer to his body. "Ya don't gotta apologize. Ya didn't do anything wrong."

Kagome sighed as she blinked away more tears and cuddled closer to him. 

She turned around in his lap, straddling him, needing to be even closer to him. She wrapped her arms around his middle, just under his armpits, as he wrapped his arms around her, and she rested her cheek against his chest. She felt his purr rumbling from deep within, making her smile slightly as she cuddled deeper against him. She needs to feel him hold her right now. She doesn't quite understand why everything seemed to hit her all at once again last night and then that nightmare...

She pinched her eyes shut and took a shuddering breath in, trying to get rid of those images from her dream.

She focused on Inuyasha's soft purr and the feeling of his hands rubbing soft circles along her back. The love she feels for him and the love she knows he feels for her. She squeezed him tighter and nuzzled her face into his chest, enjoying his warmth and his calming scent.

"I'm here." Inuyasha didn't know what to really do to help, but the scent of her sadness and fear from her nightmare has dissipated the more he held her and spoke just those few words, so he at least knows he must be doing something right.

When she was sleeping, he had heard her whimper as a tear escaped her eye. He felt the intense fear straight through his heart from her mark, making his own whimper build up in the back of his throat. He had tried to wake her gently, but she was in such a deep sleep that it wasn't working. He had nuzzled under her chin and kissed her cheek, saying her name, but nothing he tried had worked.

When she woke up gasping for air and crying, he immediately pulled her into his lap and held her close, murmuring about how much he loves her and that he won't allow anything bad to happen to her. As she began to calm down, so had he, allowing him to breathe normally again.

He was no good at these types of situations, but he tried his best to do as Kagome needed. He allowed his instincts to run free and took care of her as a good mate should. He allowed her to sleep since her exhausted body and mind obviously needed it. Then he made sure she ate enough for his liking. Once he was satisfied that she was taken care of physically, he cuddled her close and tried his best to help her mentally.

Now, Kagome isn't crying anymore. She is cuddling into him harder than she ever has before, as if he is her lifeline. He didn't realize before that she was still hurting on the inside. He cursed himself for not paying more attention. He thought the future medicine was supposed to fix it, but now he knows that she may need more comfort than he had initially thought.

Which he has no qualms of doing for her. He will give her as much of him as she needs and he won't ever stop. 

His only wish is that he could kill the bastard that did this to her over and over again.

He didn't realize he was growling until he felt Kagome's light touch along his chin and he looked down into her worried eyes.

"Inuyasha?"

He swallowed down the growl that was still making it's way up and nuzzled his cheek into her palm, allowing the anger to dissipate from his body. He took a breath in, doing as he saw Miroku and Kagome do in the past, and then gave her a small smile.

"Are you okay, Kagome?"

Kagome stroked his cheek bone with the tips of her fingers as she searched his golden eyes. She sighed and bit her lip as her other hand twiddled with his Rosary, nervous to tell him once again that 'no,' she isn't okay.

She doesn't want him to worry, so instead of saying those words again, she sighed and nodded her head. "Y-yeah... I'm fine..."

Inuyasha let out an annoyed growl as he lifted her face by her chin and glared down at her. "What did I say about lying to me, woman? If ya ain't okay, then don't tell me you are." 

Kagome flinched, not from any fear of him, but from the fact that she forgot he could scent her lies. She couldn't prevent the tear that escaped as her bottom lip trembled. "I... I don't want you to worry... I just had a bad night last night and... and then a bad dream... I will be fine, I promise."

Inuyasha's eyes softened as he looked at her. He leaned in and gave her a soft kiss, enjoying the sigh that escaped her mouth as he did so. When he pulled away, he rested his forehead against hers and tried to think of a response that wouldn't have him shoving his foot in his mouth.

"Kagome... I'm your mate. I need..." He let out a small puff of air. "Just quit lyin', alright? I'm not gonna be mad and you aren't a burden. I love you and it's my job to take care of you."

Kagome let out a choked sob as she wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her face under his chin. "I'm sorry. I love you so much, Inu."

Inuyasha nuzzled her close as he continued to rub her back softly with both hands. "Quit apologizing, woman."

Kagome laughed which ended on another sob as she held him even tighter than before.

Kagome and Inuyasha spent the next hour or so just cuddling, a few stolen kisses in between. He could tell that she was still feeling down, but the scent of her sadness had at least dissipated since that morning. He noticed that she is back to being clingy like before when he came to see her right after she woke up from being imprisoned by Naraku the first time. He doesn't mind the clinginess, it actually appeases his inner demon quite well, but he knows it probably isn't too healthy.

When she had to get up to use the bathroom, she nearly burst into tears at having to separate from him. He promised to stay outside in the hallway for her, which she was relieved about. That surprised him the most because normally, she had an issue about him being able to hear her pee, but she didn't seem to care at all this time.

As soon as he had heard the sink turn off, she rushed out of the bathroom and nearly tackled him to the floor. She held onto him tight and cuddled into his chest. He wrapped his arms around her and nuzzled the top of her head, but he couldn't help but be worried about her.

Once he finally got her to pull back from the tight embrace, he convinced her to go outside for a little while. He remembered her mother saying that fresh air is good for clearing your head, and he wanted to see if that would help.

They went out to the shrine grounds and over to the Goshinboku. Kagome looked up at Inuyasha and blinked away her tears as she saw the clear worry in his gaze and the small wilt of his ears. She held her arms out for him, and he gladly held her close. She sighed as her nerves calmed more and more with each passing second.

Inuyasha lifted Kagome into his arms and jumped into the high branches of the ancient tree, settling in comfortably with Kagome curled up against his chest. He raked his claws through her raven locks and kissed the side of her head as she closed her eyes and allowed a small smile to grace her lips.

Another couple of hours quickly went by and Mrs. Higurashi called up to them for dinner. Kagome whined as she cuddled harder into his chest, saying she wasn't hungry, but Inuyasha jumped down to the ground with her in his arms anyway.

"Ya gotta eat."

Kagome shook her head and pinched her eyes shut tight. She just wanted to be with Inuyasha today. Was that too much to ask? "Not hungry."

Inuyasha sighed as he walked towards the sliding glass door of the house. "You skipped breakfast."

Kagome groaned as she fisted the front of his shirt. "I ate a late lunch..."

Inuyasha let out a small growl as he opened the door and carried her inside, closing the door behind him as best he could while still holding his clingy mate. "You didn't finish your lunch."

Kagome sighed and nuzzled into his chest harder, nearly in tears when he set her down at the dining table, pulling her hands off of his shirt. She felt like she was panicking at this point, the walls were closing in on her and her breathing was becoming labored. Her eyes shut tight as tears escaped unbidden.

Suddenly, she was wrapped up in her fiancé's embrace once again, and she sobbed in relief. Neither of them quite understood what is happening, but Inuyasha knows he won't do anything she doesn't want. He turned to look at Mrs. Higurashi who gave them a sad look, before saying she'll bring dinner up to the room for them. Inuyasha nodded his thanks before lifting Kagome back up into his arms and heading back upstairs.

He walked into her room and closed the door behind him before sitting on the bed with his back against the wall. He looked down at his mate, who is curled up as close as possible to him, her eyes pinched shut, her face red, and her hands fisting the front of his clothes. He can smell the anxiety, fear and sadness in her scent, and it is making his inner demon go insane with worry and anger.

He calmed down his raging demon and took a deep breath in, then letting it out slowly. He lightly rubbed her back and leaned down to leave lingering kiss to her forehead. Kagome sighed as her eyes stopped pinching shut so tight, looking more relaxed than before. He pulled back to gaze down at her, watching as her grasp on his clothes loosened slightly and her eyes fluttered open to stare into his. He moved his left hand to push the stray hair out of her face to behind her ear, then leaned down and lightly pressed his lips to hers.

Kagome closed her eyes as his lips brushed against hers over and over, lighter than any kiss they have ever shared before. She held in the oncoming tears as her right hand raised to cup his cheek as his soft lips made her chest feel less tight and the world feel less dim.

She sighed against his mouth as their lips continued to caress each other, both of them pouring their unwavering love into the kiss. She raised the hand resting on his cheek to the top of his head and lightly stroked his furry ear, eliciting a small purr from the man she loves.

She hummed happily against his mouth as he continued to heal her heart and soul with the light brushes of his lips and the soft reverberations of his purr against her body. 

Inuyasha could smell and feel her sadness dissolve and contentment and happiness begin to take its place. He tilted his head just a little to feel her fingers more firmly against his ear as he presses his mouth against hers a little more insistently. He let out a small growl when he felt the tip of her tongue against his lips, his mouth parting immediately for her to enter as she wishes.

Kagome moaned softly when she felt and tasted his tongue against hers. She scratched the base of his ear just the way she knows he likes as she swirled her tongue slowly around his, stifling her moans as she did so. She pulled her tongue back just slightly so she could run it along both of his fangs, making her unable to hold back the mewl, especially when he groaned in response.

Their moment was interrupted by a knock on the door, making her immediately pull away and pull her hands back into herself. She turned in his lap so she is leaning against him with her back against his chest. Just as she finished maneuvering to more innocent territory, her door opened and her mother walked in. She blushed slightly but have a small smile as her mother handed them each separate meals. They both thanked her before she left and then they sighed in relief.

Kagome turned her face to look at his blushing cheeks, making her smile widen at how adorable and handsome her mate is. She gave him a knowing grin before turning back around and trying to eat as much as she could at the moment. Her appetite isn't all there right now, but she will try, knowing Inuyasha won't allow her to get out of taking care of herself.

She smiled as she thought about how well he takes care of her. He makes sure she is fed, gets enough sleep, feels safe and protected, and so much more. She heard him slurping his noodles and chuckled quietly to herself. She doesn't think she'll ever get tired of just having him near her. 

They continued to eat in relative silence, no words needing to be spoken as they enjoyed each other's company while they finished their meal.

Shortly after eating and cuddling some more, Kagome said she had to get up and study on the laptop she uses for her online classes. Inuyasha tried to convince her to take some time off since she wasn't feeling well, but she refused, saying that she really needs to catch up because they are heading back to the past tomorrow to work more on the huts. Inuyasha's ears flattened to his skull as he gave her his best puppy dog face, making her roll her eyes playfully before rubbing both ears and giving him a sweet kiss.

When she pulled back from his lips, she smiled at his now perked up ears and hazy expression. "You could give Souta that piggy-back ride like you promised him. I'm sure he'll love that."

Inuyasha sighed and nodded his head in defeat. "Keh. Fine. But you ain't studying all fucking night, woman. Ya need to sleep."

Kagome stood up on her tip toes to kiss him on the cheek, smiling widely at him before sitting down at her desk and opening the laptop to get to work. "Love you, Inu."

Inuyasha let out a small growl, not wanting to leave her side, especially with how clingy she has been all day, but knowing he can't convince her to do something she doesn't want to do. His shoulders slumped in defeat as he stepped forward and put his arms around her from behind, kissing the side of her head.

"Mess with the mark of you need me."

Kagome shivered at the feel of his breath on her ear and the sound of his voice so close and deep. She nodded her head in agreement, earning another kiss before he stood up tall and walked towards the door.

"Promise you'll call me to you the second you need me, Kagome."

Kagome turned in her chair, looking into his worried and sincere gaze, making her eyes water slightly. She gave him a half smile as she nodded. "I promise. I love you."

Inuyasha let out the breath he was holding, feeling better after getting her word that she won't hesitate to call him to her. "Love ya too."

Before she knew it, she was alone in her room with nothing but her own thoughts and her school work. She took a deep breath in and let it out slowly as she turned back to the computer and signed into her account for homeschooling.

Inuyasha tracked Souta to his bedroom; he could hear the kid playing his video games again, making him roll his eyes, he sighed as he called through the door. "Oi, kid!"

He shouldn't have been surprised at how fast the noise from the game stopped and the door swung open with a pajama clad nine year old excitedly in front of him. The eagerness in the kids expression made him crack a small grin.

"Inu-no-niichan! Ya wanna play video games!?"

Inuyasha stifled the chuckle that wanted to break free as he kept his posture and expression nonchalant. "If ya want. We could go on that run you asked for the other day though."

The way Souta's face lit up in excitement has Inuyasha's heart softening. He and Kagome really did act a lot alike. He felt a small pang of sadness for his mate, knowing that some day, she might have to say goodbye to this world.

'Unless I live here... with her.'

He mentally shook those thoughts away; there is no need for such nonsense at the moment. They still need to get the last two shards from the wolf and then their weddings are in about six months. They have plenty of time to figure out their future.

He was so lost in thought, that he didn't realize the kid was still rambling on, until his arm was beginning to be tugged and he was led down the hall and down the stairs. He shook his head in amusement as Souta put his shoes and a jacket on and rushed outside, summoning him to the backyard by the Sacred Tree.

Inuyasha followed the kid, both of them stopping under the tree. The evening was coming to a close, the sun beginning to set. "I don't want to get ya in trouble kid, so we can't stay out too late." Part of that was true. He respected Kagome's family and didn't want to upset them, but he also wanted to get back to his woman as soon as possible. He can feel her slight distress through the mark, but it was only enough to make his inner demon a little twitchy. 

Souta seemed to get a little upset at the news that they couldn't stay out too long, but he pushed the thought aside and decided to make the most of it. He ran around Inuyasha and jumped onto his back, laughing as the hanyou yelped like a dog in surprise at the sudden action. 

The boy put his arms around Inuyasha's neck excitedly. "Come on! There's tons of forest around the shrine grounds. We can go there!"

Inuyasha shook his head before getting ready to take off. He glanced up at Kagome's bedroom window, noticing the light is on and his ear twitched as he tried to hear anything from inside. She seemed to just be mumbling to herself, probably about her school work. He let it go when the brat pinched his ear to get his attention, making him yelp once again.

"Oi! Don't mess with the ears!"

Souta put his hands back in place and hopped a little in impatience. "Then let's go! You promised, Inu-no-niichan!"

Inuyasha rolled his eyes and huffed a little as he held onto the kids legs to make sure he doesn't fall. He wants him to run? He'll fucking run. "Alright kid, you asked for it!"

He took off at a sprint, not even half of his top speed, but smirked at the squeel of the child on his back. Souta's grasp on him tightened as his eyes widened in surprise, small amounts of fear, (but no more than he would have on a rollercoaster at the amusement park), and extreme excitement.

"Awesome!" He lifted his hands up above his head and began to laugh as he felt the wind in his hair. "Faster!"

Inuyasha chuckled and when the trees came into view, his mischievous grin appeared on his face. "Better hold on!" he yelled loud enough for the human to hear.

He immediately jumped into the branches of a tree, laughing as Souta yelled out and his hands returned to the hanyou's shoulders. Souta erupted in a fit of childish giggles, making Inuyasha's chest feel lighter. He jumped from tree to tree, dodging branches and other obstacles as he expertly maneuvered throughout the forest.

He noticed that there are nowhere near as many trees here than in his time, but he tried not to pay that much mind. He actually is having fun; a word he didn't really understand until he met the woman he loves. He didn't realize that he was laughing along with the kid all the way through the forest and back to the shrine for the entire hour they were running, a large fanged smile on his face.

When they made it back, Souta was breathing heavily as if he was the one who ran that whole time, but Inuyasha didn't even break a sweat. He carefully let the elementary school student off of his back and put a hand to the kids shoulder as they walked back to the house. He was grinning as Souta excitedly went on and on and on about how much fun that was and how they should do it again sometime. 

Inuyasha actually found himself agreeing. He wasn't used to doing much of anything just for the fun of it, and he definitely wasn't used to the feeling of having a real brother. He looked down at the kid's shining brown eyes and nodded, telling him that he'll think about it. But he already knows his answer will be a yes, as long as Kagome doesn't need him at the time.

Souta gave his hero a hug before running back to his room to play some more games before bed, Inuyasha blushing as he watched the kid walk away. He was about to head up the stairs to Kagome when Mrs. Higurashi stopped him.

"That was a really nice thing you did for him, dear."

He blushed as he turned around to see his fiancé's mother with a mug of tea, smiling at him from the entrance to the kitchen. He nervously scratched the back of his neck and nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders.

"Keh. He wanted to go and Kagome had to study..."

Mrs. Higurashi smiled knowingly, but didn't try to pry. She understands atleast some of the hardships this boy from the past has gone through, and she knows he isn't too keen on being open to just anyone. She nodded her head as she silently went back into the kitchen.

Inuyasha let the nervous breath of air leave his lips as he went back upstairs to Kagome's room.

Kagome was studying the best she could while her mind was still racing, getting much more work done than she thought was even possible, seeing as her emotions have been all over the place lately. An hour had passed by much quicker than she expected and then she felt the calming presence of her hanyou's youki, making her smile for the first time since she saw him just over an hour ago.

She quickly stood up and looked out the window, her breath catching at the sight before her. Inuyasha was running towards the house at a pretty impressive speed, but she knew from experience that he wasn't even breaking a sweat. His silver hair was flowing from the wind, his golden eyes were shining in the moonlight and what made her heart flutter within her chest the most, was the genuine smile upon his handsome face.

She quickly opened her bedside drawer and pulled out a Polaroid that she had been wanting to take with her to the past to show her friends. This one is actually newly made to be in color and a lot better quality than the old ones. She opened her window as quietly as she could just in time to see Inuyasha slowing down by the Goshinboku.

She smiled as she put the Polaroid up to her face and sapped a picture. She saw his ear twitch at the click of the camera, but quickly ducked out of the way and sat down on the bed. The small square picture came out and she set it down on the table to allow the ink to have time to work. She hasn't had a chance to use this specific camera yet, so she hopes the quality is good enough.

About five minutes later, she heard Inuyasha coming up the stairs. She reached over, put the Polaroid back where it belongs and picked up the picture, her heart rate escalated, hoping it turned out how she wanted it to.

When she looked at the fully finished photo, her smile widened. Inuyasha had just made it below the tree, almost to a stop, but not quite. His hair was alittle tousled, but framed his face perfectly. His eyes were alight and happy. There was a full fanged smile on his face and she could see an ear was in the middle of twitching in that moment. Her brother had one hand tight on her mate's shoulder, his other hand up in the air in a fist, his mouth open and she could tell he was laughing.

Kagome stroked the side of the photo, her eyes watering, but this time with happy tears. That's how Inuyasha found her when he walked in. He immediately shut the door behind him and sat on the bed, putting an arm around her waist.

"What's wrong?"

Kagome shook her head as she looked up into his beautiful golden eyes. She held the photo in her left hand as her right moved up to cup his cheek lovingly. "You are amazing. You know that?"

Inuyasha blushed at the praise, not quite sure what brought this on. "Uh... I didn't really do anythin'." 

Kagome shook her head in amusement before leaning up and giving him a sweet and loving kiss. He reciprocated easily, loving the taste of her lips on his. Kagome pulled back and stroked his cheek adoringly, smiling up at him before pulling away just enough to reach into the drawer beside them and pulling out a small album that she has yet to fill. She opened it to the first page, smiling as the first slot was filled with the most amazing picture she thinks she could have taken in that moment.

Once the picture was in, she held the album out and handed it over to him. "You know the moving picture box?" At his nod, she pointed to the album in his hands. "I took a still picture of you and Souta when you arrived." She blushed slightly, but her smile didn't waver. "You are so incredible, Inuyasha."

Inuyasha's cheeks pinked as he looked down at the photo his mate had took of him. His ears twitched as he took in each detail. He could see how genuinely happy he was in that moment, not just on the inside, but on the outside as well. Each of his demon features were noticable under the moonlight, making him a little self conscious, but one look at Kagome's happy face, made his nerves calm tremendously. He closed the album and handed it back to her, watching as she opened it back up to take one last look at the picture before putting it inside the drawer by her bed.

As soon as her hands were empty, he reached over with his left hand and turned her face to look into his eyes, noticing the joy in her chocolate orbs. His heart fluttered within his chest as they gazed at one another.

Soon, Kagome was fast asleep, and Inuyasha closed his own eyes to allow himself some rest as well. He wasn't planning on fully succumbing to slumber, but that battle was lost as her sweet scent enveloped his senses and her warmth wrapped him up like a blanket.

Without any warning, he too had fallen into dreamland, dreaming of their wonderful life together that will soon become a reality.
