Part 15: "Kagome and Shizuka."
Inuyasha sat impatiently in the room that Alexia had told them to wait in.
It had been hours since they were carted off to the hospital after the battle's end. Inuyasha had made the trip to the hospital while unconscious while Kagome made the trip while in labor.
Inuyasha had been examined while unconscious only to be declared fine minus bruises, scratches, and the unconscious state.
From the information that Inuyasha could gather, it had been three hours since they arrived within the hospital and that Kagome's labor continued.
"Feh! What's taking so long?" Inuyasha asked.
"Childbirth takes hours." Sango replied.
"Is Kagome all right?" Shippo asked as he looked up from his seat on the floor.
Sango nodded. "She should be. This is a natural process and besides…Alexia is with her."
Inuyasha began fidgeting.
The door opened quickly causing everyone to be startled.
Alexia stepped into the room. "Neh, Inuyasha." She said cheerfully. "You can come."
"What about us?" Sango asked.
"Well, the doctors are opposed to Inuyasha's visit at the moment, but I insisted." Alexia said. "Besides Inuyasha deserves to be by the side of who he fought for."
Inuyasha stood up. "Let's go."
Alexia nodded and led Inuyasha out of the room towards the room that Kagome was in.
"Has she given birth to the kid?" Inuyasha asked.
Alexia laughed. "It'll be over by the time we reach her. You see I can't stand the smell of sweat; I get all woozy. So I volunteered to bring you in after I managed to talk the doctors into the idea. Normally, this particular doctor wouldn't have agreed to allowing you to enter; he specializes in strange case births. I requested that he deliver Kagome's baby; he'd have the less reaction when I explain that the baby is a hanyou and has to be separated from the other children born."
"Separated?" Inuyasha muttered.
"Never mind that now." Alexia said as she hurried down the hallway. She pushed open a doorway that had the sigh "Labor and Delivery" above it and motioned for Inuyasha to hurry.
Inuyasha made his way down to the door only to catch the sounds of a baby crying.
Alexia looked into the room. "Sounds like the baby was born." She smiled as she pushed Inuyasha into the room and allowing the door to shut with her still outside.
One of the doctors looked at Inuyasha.
Kagome was holding the baby-wrapped in a blanket-in her arms looking down at the face of the newborn.
The doctor made his way to Inuyasha. "You're Inuyasha, right?"
Inuyasha nodded as he had not taken his eyes off of Kagome.
"I'm Dr. Allan Tucker, the doctor that delivered the baby." He said as he turned back into the room. He motioned to the nurses and the other doctor in the room, "You can leave now."
Inuyasha looked at the doctor.
"I'm a specialist that specializes in unusual births." Dr. Tucker said. "Alexia said that the baby was a hanyou-a direct child of a youkai; is this true?"
"Yeah." Inuyasha replied.
Dr. Tucker seemed amused. "I don't see how that is possible in this age."
"Feh." Inuyasha muttered.
Dr. Tucker took the rubber gloves off of his hands and placed a hand on Inuyasha's shoulder. "The child appears human now only because of the time; basically put-this is the one night that the child will be fully human."
"Like me." Inuyasha mumbled.
"Eh, so you're a hanyou?" Dr. Tucker asked. "So you're the chosen surrogate father of the child."
Inuyasha's mind was blank. It was true; he had agreed to it. His eyes wandered back to Kagome to see that she was looking at him.
"Inuyasha, come here." Kagome said.
Inuyasha walked over to the bed's side.
Kagome looked back down at the baby. "How's the name Shizuka for him?"
Inuyasha looked at the baby, now not crying, that was in Kagome's arms.
The baby-Shizuka-was looking up at Inuyasha with eyes that were the same color of Kagome's.
"Cute." Inuyasha said as he stared at the baby.
Kagome giggled. "The two of you can stare at each other again when the sun rises."
Inuyasha smiled as he met Kagome's eyes.

Sometime during the night, Kagome was taken to a private room. Sango, Miroku, and Shippo were allowed to come and see the baby before he had to be taken for exams to check his health.
Kagome's mother, grandfather, and brother also had come to the hospital after hearing the news of the events from Kagome's friends. Inuyasha managed to gain Kagome and her mother some alone time, though he heard everything that was said from his position outside of the door.
Sometime in the afternoon, the others reentered the room while Kagome's mother, grandfather, and brother left to go home.
The group had a light recollection of everything that had occurred.
At one point, Kagome noticed Shippo distressing over something.
"Shippo-chan, is something wrong?" Kagome asked.
"I've been wondering how I made it through the well." Shippo replied.
Inuyasha stared at Shippo. "Good question. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have had to fight Sesshoumaru."
Kagome placed a finger on her lip and pondered. "Shippo-chan, you fell in the well before, didn't you?"
Shippo bounded onto the hospital bed. "Yeah."
"The Shikon no Tama was the connecter between the worlds at that point." Kagome said. "Maybe…in order to cross the worlds…"
"…There has to be a medium." Miroku finished.
Kagome nodded. "Maybe it has to be something shared between the worlds. As long as I had the Shikon no Tama with me in this time-I had a reason to be in that time."
"What is it now?" Sango asked.
"Kagome and Shizuka." Inuyasha suggested.
Kagome and the others looked at Inuyasha. He had actually made an intelligent suggestion to the conversation.
"Maybe." Kagome said as she smiled.
"Does that mean we can't go to our time without you?" Miroku asked.
"I don't think so." Kagome said.
"Maybe it was just the pure will to go through." Inuyasha suggested. "After all, I think it was my will that made me keep my powers for that time of the New Moon."
"Hmm…" Kagome pondered before covering her mouth in a yawn.
Sango looked at Miroku. "We should let Kagome rest. We should return to Kagome's house to rest ourselves." She looked back at Kagome, "Do you think your mother will mind?"
Kagome shook her head. "I don't think so. I pretty much explained the situation when she visited earlier this morning."
The door to the room opened. Alexia walked in the room holding the baby-Shizuka. "Wow, you're all still here." She grinned. "I brought the baby to the mother and uncle."
Inuyasha glared. "When we met, you we're trilled to meet me; now, you're trying to get me to kill you." He stood up and walked to Alexia. He held out his arms. "Gimme the brat."
"Don't call him a brat, Inuyasha…" Kagome said.
"Feh." Inuyasha replied.
Alexia stuck her tongue out. "I brought him here for Kagome." She walked around Inuyasha and over to Kagome.
"We'll see you later, Kagome, Inuyasha." Miroku said. He grabbed Sango's arm and led her out of the room.
Inuyasha clenched his fist before shutting the door. He turned around.
Alexia handed Kagome the baby before sitting on top of the bed-side table. She crossed her legs. "The baby will have to stay in here with the two of you."
"What?" Kagome asked.
"Don't worry…I'm gonna stay while you get well deserved rest." Alexia said. "We can't leave the baby with the other babies in the nursery; he'll draw unneeded attention. I think you two did enough attention gaining for a lifetime with yesterday's battle."
"I agree." Kagome said. She looked down at Shizuka, who calmly lie asleep cradled in her arms. She smiled. "But it wasn't all bad."
"Just curious, and I hope you don't mind me asking such a personal question, but…" Alexia said, "you seemed pretty upset about all of this to begin with; why do you act glad about the whole ordeal now?"
"Well…" Kagome began. "I still don't like the whole ordeal, but the results of it. Inuyasha and I are together; the others are safe; and we did it without killing anything or anyone."
"Do you still hate him for it?" Alexia asked.
Kagome remained looking at Shizuka, and after a moment of silence she calmly replied, "I can't hate him. In the end, he went away without being stubborn. Besides…in a way…I can thank him."
"Feh." Inuyasha muttered.
"Inuyasha." Kagome replied.
"Just 'cause I do that doesn't mean I disagree with you." Inuyasha said sarcastically. "In fact, I was doing that at myself for agreeing with you. If that stupid brother of mine didn't do…what he did…then I wouldn't be this close to you now and I probably wouldn't have admitted my feelings to you. I always feared I'd lose you or get rejected, but now I know-it wasn't gonna happen. That's why I love you Kagome; you accept people despite what they've done or said. You may get angry or upset but that's only natural."
"Everyone gets upset or angry." Kagome said.
Inuyasha laughed. "And I've seen you at your worst."
Alexia smirked as she looked at the new family. "Adorable."
Kagome glanced at Alexia a second before looking at Inuyasha. "You know, Inuyasha; Shizuka actually looks like you."
Inuyasha examined the pint-sized hanyou. "You're comparing me to my brother's baby; it's amazing…but you're right." He chuckled. (It'd be priceless if Sesshoumaru were to know.) He thought.
Kagome glared. "You're not thinking something stupid are you?"
Inuyasha just looked at Kagome. "What would give you that idea?"
Kagome continued to glare.
Alexia laughed. "That's funny." She jumped off of the bed-side table and reached to Kagome. "How 'bout giving me the baby and getting some rest now?"
Kagome looked up at Alexia before handing Shizuka to her.
"That seat reclines if you want to lay back, Inuyasha." Alexia said as she walked over to a baby-bed which sat against the wall in front of the foot of the bed Kagome was in.
"Heh?" Inuyasha asked.
Alexia laid Shizuka in the bed before walking to the side of the chair-which sat next to Kagome's bed-causing Inuyasha to look up at her.
"What do you mean?" Inuyasha asked.
Alexia reached to the side of the chair and pulled on the wooden lever, causing the foot-prop to unfold from underneath the chair.
The sound caused Inuyasha to jump onto the back of the chair. "What the hell!"
Kagome laughed. "It's more comfortable that way, Inuyasha."
Inuyasha glared at the chair before turning to glare at Alexia.
Alexia smirked.
"That does it; I know why I hate you." Inuyasha said. "You're related to that wimpy wolf, aren't you?"
"Yare, yare…how long did that take you to figure out?" Alexia asked with a grin on her face. "NOW, the two of you-get some rest~!"

Truthfully, the story continues. Not much longer. It could end here, but it isn't going to. I still have to wind everything up and prepare for the sequel.
If you wish, you can call this then end and ignore the following chapters, but…if you do, don't expect to see the cuteness at the end~! Now that the drama is over, the fun shall begin and lead to the ending.
Now, the characters have progressed and the resolution will follow.
I feel as if I rushed this chapter, but I think that is only because my writing's form has altered.
