Part 5: "I really need new clothes..."

Kagome walked out of the bathroom wearing a pair of gray cotton pants and a v-neck, long-sleeved shirt. She picked the shirt to hide the bruises on her wrists, but there was one problem with that shirt-the neckline was too low and showed some of the scratches and cuts.

As she walked down the hall to the living room, Kagome but her arm over the scratches and latched her hand to her shoulder.

She walked into the living room silently, but still managed to draw Inuyasha's attention from his position in front of the TV, which was on an anime channel since Souta was in the room.

"Oi, Kagome, why didn't you tell me what this black box did the last time we were here?" Inuyasha asked.

"You never asked." Kagome muttered.

Kagome's mother looked at her and noticed how Kagome had her arm placed. "Dear, why are you holding your arm like that?"

Inuyasha noticed what Kagome's mother was talking about and remembered the cuts.

"I really need new clothes..." Kagome mumbled.

"Kagome...let your mother see them." Inuyasha said.

Kagome looked at Inuyasha, but then lowered her head. "I don't have to."

Kagome's mother stood up and walked to Kagome. "Kagome, honey, let me see."

"I said no!" Kagome yelled as she backed up. "I'm...going to my room!" Kagome spun on her heals and ran toward the stairs.

Inuyasha stood up. "She shattered the mirror in the bathroom, for your information." He walked past Kagome's mother and to the stairs. "I'll talk to her..."

Inuyasha heard her mumbling something as he walked up the stairs and towards her door. (What the hell is she saying...?)

He stopped at her door and listened.

Kagome stared at the school books on her desk. "Well, looks like I don't have to worry about passing or failing; I'm going to have to drop out. This is wonderful." Then she thought about her friends. "What am I going to tell them? Um, Eri-chan, Yuka-chan, Ayumi-chan, you know that guy I talk about? Did you know that he has an evil half-brother, who hates him? Guess, what? That evil dog half-brother of his raped me and now I'm pregnant. Oh, and you know there's something about all of them, the two-timer, his evil brother, and that possessive clueless guy, that I need to tell you: they're all youkai from the past! So the next time you try to set me up on a date with Hojo; please allow me to laugh."

Inuyasha wasn't really shocked about her talking to herself, but what was she talking about. (Eri, Yuka, Ayumi? Who are they? Who's...Hojo?) Inuyasha opened the door and walked into the room.

Kagome looked at him with a glare on her face.

"What are you talking about?" Inuyasha asked.

"You heard me didn't you?" Kagome asked coldly. "I was trying to think of what I'd tell my friends."

Inuyasha shut the door and sat down on the floor. "Why don't you talk about them while your in the past; you seem to talk about us?"

"Yeah, I do talk about you." Kagome mumbled. "I told them all about how selfish and annoying you are. I told them how much Miroku is a letch and how he asks every girl to bare his child. I also told them how Kouga said that I was 'his woman,' but now that doesn't matter."

"You've never told them about what you do-collect the shards on an adventure?" Inuyasha asked.

"No; they think you're all ordinary people from this time." Kagome said.

"Maybe you should talk to them about this." Inuyasha suggested. "Maybe they can help you."

"Oh, yeah." Kagome mumbled, and then sarcastically began. "Let me just call them up, gather at a restaurant, and tell them all about how I was raped yesterday and tell them all about your youkai half-brother and that I'm pregnant with his child which will be born in THREE MONTHS! Three months is NOT a normal pregnancy! They'll laugh at me and say I'm joking!"

"And I'll straighten them out." Inuyasha replied.

"What?" Kagome asked as she looked at Inuyasha.

Inuyasha crossed his arms and shifted. "Well...you've told them about me...partially from what I can tell. I'll be there when you tell them, and I'll explain the youkai part. If they laugh, so be it. If they don't believe you; we'll invite them to see your baby and prove it."

Kagome chuckled. "You want to meet my friends?"

"Why not?" Inuyasha asked in a blunt and clearly serious tone.

Kagome pointed at his ears. "They'll wonder what you are."

"Feh! I said I'd explain that." Inuyasha said. "Tomorrow, we'll meet your friends and explain, got it? Then, we'll get you some more clothes. I already talked to your mother about the 'money' issue."

"One condition...you have to wear shoes and a different outfit." Kagome said.

"What!" Inuyasha yelled. "There's no way I'm wearing crummy clothes from this time!"

"Go tell Ji-chan you need some clothes." Kagome said demandingly.

"No!" Inuyasha objected. "You're the one who needs clothes; I like my outfit."

"Inuyasha..." Kagome said. "People will stare at us if we go out into public with you dressed like that."

"SO!" Inuyasha protested.

"Inuyasha...I don't want people to stare." Kagome said as she looked down at her hands.

Inuyasha didn't know how to protest, even if he were able to. "Feh! Fine! In the morning I'll go talk to the old man. Now, I think you should get some rest."

"But...to early to go to sleep..." Kagome said.

"You need rest, now is a perfect time." Inuyasha said. "And besides, you didn't sleep last night; I'm not stupid. Sleep a while and prepare yourself for the conversation with your friends."

"I don't wanna go to sleep." Kagome said defiantly.

"Feh!" Inuyasha said. "Then what do you want to do-sit here and wallow in self-pity? I didn't sleep last night either; I was trying to stay alive as a human while staring at the entrance to the hut making sure that bastard didn't show."

"What were you going to do if he did...fight him?" Kagome asked.

"Do as best as I could to keep his filthy hands away from you after what he did to you." Inuyasha replied.

(He was willing to fight...as a human?) Kagome thought.

"Baka, go to sleep." Inuyasha said as he broke her out of her though.

Kagome looked up at him for him to turn his gaze away from her. (What was that for? Is he actually trying to be nice? Don't think so...this is Inuyasha I'm thinking about...) Kagome thought. "Neh...Inuyasha..."

"What?" Inuyasha asked partially sarcastically.

"Can't I at least...get something to eat, first?" Kagome asked.

(Okay, fine, I take the not stupid comment back; I am stupid.) Inuyasha thought to himself as he laughed quietly. He stood up. "Sure, why not. Now that you mention it, neither of us ate anything since...earlier yesterday. Let's go ask your mother."
