Part 6: "I need to explain something..."

Kagome woke up around six in the morning. They had gone to sleep too early for her to stay in bed late. Now no one but her was up. Her mom normally woke up around seven, but that was nearly an hour a way. She tried, but couldn't go back to sleep. She was forced to either wake Inuyasha to talk to her, find something to do, or think.

She rolled to her side to see where Inuyasha was. He was curled up on a rug on her floor with a pillow and the Tetsusaiga. He looked kind of funny curled up like an animal holding the sword like a stuffed doll and resting his head on a partially shredded pillow. Kagome would never forget how he attacked the pillow by believing it was some kind of monster since it smelt like birds-after all it was a feather pillow.

(Don't think.) Kagome thought to herself. She sighed and rolled back to her back. As long as she was asleep, thanks to sleeping pills her mom gave her, she was fine. Yet, now she was wide awake and couldn't sleep, and no one was awake to keep her mind off things.

Before she went to bed, Kagome called her three friends. She told them she wanted to speak with them about something "important" when she wanted to say "life determining," but she decided to be discrete until the next day. They were going to have a picnic. Kagome had to explain what a picnic was, and he only agreed to it because there was food; at least that what she believed.

Until she fell asleep, Kagome had though of a way to tell her friends delicately without them freaking out, like she was. Yet, she never thought of a way, so come time of the picnic, she'd have to just come out with it.

Kagome grumbled silently to herself and closed her eyes. She laid there and then she began to become very sick to her stomach. She sat up quickly. (Oh SHIT!) She thought. (What the hell is this! Baka! It's morning sickness; you're pregnant, moron!) Kagome sat still for a moment hoping the sickness would just go away.

When the sickness wouldn't stop, Kagome stood up and dashed for the door, and after she flung the door open, causing it to hit the wall rather harshly, she dashed downstairs.

Inuyasha jumped awake in time to see Kagome dash out the door. "Nani...?" he mumbled as he shook off the sleepiness. He stood up and walked to the door.

When Inuyasha was about to walk out of the door, he noticed something-the door was cracked at the hinges. The door was solid, and now...cracked. (I'm still asleep. There's no way she could break the door.) He shook his head and walked out into the hallway.

Kagome's mother had come of her room next door and looked at Kagome's room. "What happened?"

"Kagome ran out of the room." Inuyasha said. "She seemed to be in a hurry."

Kagome's mother looked down the stairs.

"So...what woke you up-the door slamming against the wall?" Inuyasha asked.

"Yes." Kagome's mother replied.

"I'm going to check on Kagome." Inuyasha said as he jumped down the stairs. He walked to where he smelt her-the direction of the bathroom.

Inuyasha found Kagome sitting outside the bathroom door.

"I feel terrible." Kagome said.

"Why?" Inuyasha asked.

"Baka..." Kagome replied. "I'm sick, baka. It's called 'morning sickness;' pregnant women have it. It's not supposed to start so quickly."

"Well, normally, babies aren't born in three months either in a human way of looking at it." Inuyasha replied as he sat down on the ground in front of her. "Um...Kagome..."

"Yeah...?" Kagome asked.

"Did you know you broke your door?" Inuyasha asked.

Kagome stared at him. "What do you mean...?"

"When you slammed it against the wall it cracked around those hinge things." Inuyasha said.

Kagome shook her head. "There's no way I could have broke the door... Maybe we have termites or something...but I've slammed that door open before."

"Maybe it's just wearing out." Inuyasha replied.

"Maybe..." Kagome said. (It didn't even seem like I opened it hard enough for it to slam against the wall. I just opened it...like I have many times before.)

"Kagome, dear, are you all right?" Her mother came to where they were sitting.

Kagome looked up at her mother. "Is the door to my room broken?"

Kagome's mother looked at her. "I didn't notice. I just came on downstairs to see how you were."

Kagome looked at Inuyasha. "You didn't do anything to my door on a previous visit did you?"

"Of course not!" Inuyasha protested. "I come in your window, remember!"

Kagome's mother looked between the two. "Okay... Who wants breakfast?"

"I do!" Inuyasha yelled, probably in a tone to wake the rest of the house at the wonderful hour of six-twenty.

Kagome placed her face in her hands. "Inuyasha...at least keep it down; you're giving me a headache..." she said. (Food...the only thing Inuyasha seems not to disagree on-except that time I tried to cook them food and he went for the ramen.)

* * *

After breakfast, Inuyasha and Kagome decided to wait till lunch, when Kagome had agreed to meet her friends in the park. She told them that she was "bringing a friend" and explained minor details like "don't jump to conclusions when you see us together; we're only friends." She said that mainly because Inuyasha was standing right next to her while she was on the phone. She would have told them it was the selfish guy she described, but she didn't want Inuyasha to flip and let them know that he was in her house.

Souta had brought his gaming system into the living room, where he tried to teach Inuyasha to play a game. After Souta finally managed to teach Inuyasha how to hold and use the controller-without damaging it-he talked Inuyasha into playing against him in a fighting game.

No matter how many youkai Inuyasha had fought and killed during his lifetime, he could never win one game against Souta. Inuyasha wouldn't have quit if it weren't for the time.

After Kagome changed into the least revealing clothes she could find-a pair of black pants and a red short-sleeve shirt with a high neckline-she waited for Inuyasha to stop fighting with her grandfather over the "crummy clothes she was making him wear."

Kagome waited in the living room for Inuyasha's glorious return. He took longer than she did. She could hear half of the argument and it was a mutual argument between the two-Inuyasha and her grandfather. (Baka...he talked me into this and now he's being a slow-poke.) She thought.

"I HATE THIS!" Inuyasha screamed from the other room. "HOW THE HELL DO YOU PEOPLE WEAR THESE GOD-DAMN SHOES!"

Kagome rolled her eyes. (Baka...) She thought.

Souta came into the living room with a black cap. "This is for Inu-niichan."

Kagome took the cap. "Thank you Souta. Will you please go ask them to hurry...?"

"Sure." Souta replied as he went toward their grandfather's room to tell them.

After a few minutes and much yelling later, Inuyasha came into the living room. He was wearing a pair of baggy dark-colored blue-jeans and a simple black t-shirt. He was also wearing shoes, which was a change. If it weren't for his ears, he'd look like an ordinary person.

"Baka!" Inuyasha yelled. "I'd rather people stare than have to wear such stupid clothes! I look like a complete fool!"

Kagome giggled. "Actually...Inuyasha, you don't look half bad in that outfit. Besides, you are a complete fool..."

"Nani!" Inuyasha yelled in a clearly irritated voice.

Kagome stood up and walked over to him. She held out the black cap. "Here."

Inuyasha grumbled to himself as he took the cap from her and put it on his head. "I'm doing this for you Kagome; you owe me one!"

Kagome still found Inuyasha's new look amusing as she turned to the door. The comment made her slightly angry. "Inuyasha..." When she heard him eep she smiled and walked toward the door. "Let's go."

* * *

Kagome and Inuyasha had walked silently to the park.

"This is a park?" Inuyasha asked as he looked around.

"Yes, Inuyasha." Kagome said. "This is a park-a place for people to relax in a calm area and for children to play."

Kagome began walking again.

"Kagome...if you want, I can explain the situation to them." Inuyasha said.

Kagome sighed. "I think...I should tell them... You're just there for the hard parts for me to explain like youkai, you, and..." She spoke clearly until the end of the sentence.

"Sesshoumaru." Inuyasha filled in.

Kagome lowered her head but nodded slightly.

(Baka!) Inuyasha mentally scolded himself. (There you go! Make her flip out again! You're helping her perfectly in being the moron you are!)

"Kagome-chan!" A voice called from in front of them

Kagome looked up to see her three friends sitting under a small group of trees with a blanket on the ground and a picnic basket.

"Over here, Kagome!" Eri called.

Inuyasha watched as, at first, Kagome hesitated. When she did begin walking towards her friends, Inuyasha followed closely behind.

"Wow!" Yuka said as the two reached where they were. "This is your friend you were talking about bringing?"

Kagome nodded. "Yeah. This is Inuyasha."

Eri stood up and held her hand out to Inuyasha. "Nice to meet you, I'm Eri."

(Oh, crap!) Kagome thought. (He doesn't know about shaking hands!) She looked at Inuyasha. "It's not polite not to shake someone's hand when they offer to." She said.

Inuyasha looked at Kagome and then at Eri's hand. He reached over and placed his hand similar to his.

Eri took his hand and shook it. "Nice to meet you, Inuyasha." She released Inuyasha's hand and sat back down.

"Have a seat." Yuka said.

Both Kagome and Inuyasha sat down.

Kagome sighed a sigh of relief knowing that Inuyasha didn't screw up the handshake too bad and make a fool of both of them.

"I'm Yuka." Yuka said. "And this is Ayumi." She said as she pointed to the silent girl who was staring at Inuyasha. Yuka nudged Ayumi, "Say hello, Ayumi-chan."

"Hi." Ayumi said. "So...is this the two-timer or the possessive one. Or is he the lecher you told us about."

"Uh...well..." Kagome began.

Inuyasha looked at Kagome. "Kagome, didn't we come here for another reason other than talk about me." He said partially irritated. (Two-timer, huh...?) He thought after he narrowed down the choices.

Kagome looked up at her three friends and looked at each one of them. "Yeah...well... I need to explain something... Everything might sound strange; well, it will sound strange, but just hear me out."

"What is it Kagome-chan?" Eri asked.

"First of all, you're all my friends and I want to stay your friends." Kagome said. "Second, I'm going to have to...quit school."

"What!" Yuka yelled. "Is this because of all your illnesses?"

Kagome sighed. "All those times Ji-chan called and said I wall ill, I wasn't...but this time is for real. I bet he already called and told everyone some wonderful tale for yesterday."

"I heard it was something about you getting hurt because of a well." Ayumi said.

Kagome eeped. (NOW he speaks the truth!)

"Kagome...why are you going to quit school?" Yuka asked.

"Because...I well...have a health...thing to deal with..." Kagome said.

Inuyasha looked at her three friends. "She's pregnant."

"WHAT!" The three yelled in unison and stood up.

"Kagome, is this true?" Eri asked.

"Yes." Kagome mumbled.

"Was it this guy?" Yuka asked as she pointed to Inuyasha.

Kagome lowered her head.

"No...It wasn't me." Inuyasha said somewhat sadly. "Now...sit down and let her finish..."

The three sat back down.

Kagome looked up. "Inuyasha...has an older half-brother... He's cruel and...despicable. And well...you won't believe me..."

"Spit it out." Yuka said.

"For one: all those times I was sick, they were lies and I was in the past with Inuyasha and three others." Kagome explained. "Second, I was stupid enough to wander off on my own. Third...Inuyasha's brother...he..."

"She uses the term 'raped' to describe it." Inuyasha finished.

The three girls were shocked to say the least. They were staring blankly at Kagome, who was looking at them.

"When...did this happen...?" Eri asked.

"Two days ago..." Kagome said.

"But...you said you were pregnant... How...do you know...?" Yuka asked.

"Ah, that's where I explain things." Inuyasha said. "You see... me, the 'possessive one'-the baka Kouga and my brother aren't exactly human... Kouga and my brother are youkai."

"Youkai?" Ayumi asked. "They only exist in myths."

"Not exactly..." Kagome said. "I don't know what happened to them all but youkai did exist many years ago. I've seen quite enough of them, thank you."

"Are you a youkai...?" Eri asked as she looked at Inuyasha.

"No and yeah." Inuyasha said.

"He's a hanyou-half-youkai, half-human." Kagome said.

"You have to be pulling my leg, Kagome-chan." Eri said. "Did you two rehearse all this to fool us?"

"Of course we didn't!" Kagome yelled. "I'm pregnant because Inuyasha's insane half-brother raped me! Why the hell would I lie about something like this! Do you want proof? You want proof of the youkai thing, first? Think about it Eri; Inuyasha didn't know how to shake hands. What about his claws? His fangs?" She reached over and jerked the black cap of Inuyasha's head. "What about his ears?"

Kagome's three friends gawked at Inuyasha, hardly believing what they saw.

"Yes, I am pregnant." Kagome said. "I've already had morning sickness thanks to some strange fact that, just because I was knocked up by a youkai, the whole pregnancy is sped up."

"If you don't believe that." Inuyasha said. "The baby will be born in about three months."

The three sat silently allowing all the information to be processes.

"Wow." Eri said. "What are you going to do after the baby...?"

Kagome blinked. "You think I have any idea? Before two days ago, I was just another girl despite the fact that I jump in a well and go back to the past."

"Who's going to help you raise the baby?" Yuka asked.

Kagome dropped the black cap. "Uh...well...that's...questionable..." She spoke rather unsure of herself. (Who can help me raise the baby...?) She glanced at Inuyasha and then looked down at her hands in her lap. (Nope; he wouldn't do it. He'd run to Kikyo if I asked him.)

"What about Hojo?" Ayumi asked.

Kagome looked up with a glare on her face. "No." she said bluntly.

"Who's Hojo anyway?" Inuyasha asked.

Kagome looked at Inuyasha. "A boy from school."

"And what exactly is a 'date' anyway?" Inuyasha asked. "You said something about telling them if they tried to set you up on that 'date' thing with him again, you'd laugh."

Kagome put her face in her hands and shook her head. "I was upset Inuyasha. I just said that, but I really don't want to get Hojo involved in anything that deals with this."

"Why not?" Eri asked. "He likes you enough; he'd help you through it."

Inuyasha began a low growl.

"Or...is he going to help you...?" Eri asked.

"Eri-chan! That's my decision on who will help with the baby." Kagome yelled. "I have to choose someone; that's for sure."

"In three days after the baby is born...I forgot to mention that before." Inuyasha said.

"Nani!" Kagome looked at Inuyasha. "You just happened to forget a time limit!"

"Well, it's not like I told you at the last second!" Inuyasha yelled.

"Um, Kagome-chan." Eri said.

Kagome looked at Eri, who handed her a sandwich. "I suppose you should eat." Eri said as she smiled.

Kagome took the sandwich.

"I think you've explained enough." Eri said. "I'm sure you'll end up with the person you want to be with in the end, Kagome-san."

"Kagome-san?" Kagome asked. "Why'd you call me that?"

"You're maturing, Kagome-san." Eri said.

Yuka nodded. "You're handling this well for such an unusual situation."

Ayumi smiled and handed Inuyasha as sandwich. "Let's eat and talk about other things."

"Like what?" Kagome asked.

"Every cute item you need for the baby." Yuka replied. "So...since you know you're pregnant; do you know what it is?"

"A boy." Kagome replied, somewhat in shocked by her friends quick understanding.

"Have you thought of names?" Ayumi asked as she took a bite of her own sandwich.

"Uh...I haven't, but Inuyasha was telling me some." Kagome replied. "He wanted to call the baby something to piss his brother off."

"Why would it piss him off if you named the baby an odd name?" Eri asked.

"Well...he...kinda..." Kagome trailed off into her own thoughts again. (Owns me...) She looked down at the sandwich in her hands.

Inuyasha took a bite of the sandwich and sat through the silence. After he swallowed the sandwich he looked at Kagome. "Kagome..." he looked at Kagome's friends. "By youkai laws, Kagome belongs to my brother. That's why...I brought her here-to break that. He can come to claim her at any time in my time, but he can't come to this time like I can. I wish I could just flat out kill the son-of-a-bitch, but he has a little way of getting out of being dead."

Eri and Yuka looked at each other.

Ayumi looked at her watch. "Kagome-san, I'm going to have to go." She looked at Kagome, who met her gaze. "My parents and I are going to my aunt's house." She stood up. "I hope everything turns out all right. Bye!" She waved as she ran off.

"Well, how about we eat and then talk." Yuka said.

"Yeah, Kagome, eat." Inuyasha said as he took another bite of the sandwich.

The group ate their sandwiches, and then Yuka presented a plate full of cookies. As soon as they began eating the cookies the conversation began again. This time the conversation was about everything that had happened in the time in the past-how Kagome made her way there, or basically how she was pulled there and how she met Inuyasha and the others. Inuyasha told parts of the story, since she always zoned out anytime it came to talk about the battles against Sesshoumaru.

The girls were quite shocked of all the information, and by hearing about all the battles they had gone through namely because Kagome shatter a jewel.

It was nearly three o'clock by the time they conversation ended, and considering it started at noon, the conversation was actually cut short of un-necessary details-with both Kagome and Inuyasha leaving out parts of the story like Sango's brother and some things about Kikyo.

Eri and Yuka had to leave before they really wanted to. Each had promised their parents to be back at a certain time before dark. They bid their fare-wells for the day.

Yuka had left the remaining cookies for the two to eat, so they took them to another location in the park.

Kagome and Inuyasha sat in a quiet and empty area of the park away from the prying eyes of children who had seen Inuyasha's ears.

"So, are you feeling better?" Inuyasha asked.

"Yeah...somewhat." Kagome said.

"Have you gotten over the whole thing a little?" Inuyasha asked as he ate a cookie.

"Just a little..." Kagome said. She picked a cookie up and ate it. "I'll never fully get over it, and if I ever have to look at Sesshoumaru again, I might freak out and go all mopey again."

"I understand that, Kagome." Inuyasha said. (At least she's not freaking at the sound of his name, and is actually saying it, now.) He thought.

Kagome looked at the fingernails on her hand. "I'm going to have to cut my nails. This is the longest they've ever been."

Inuyasha laughed.

"What?" Kagome asked.

"You're worry about your nails." Inuyasha said.

"Maybe I need a manicure to cheer me up." Kagome said.

"A mani-wha?" Inuyasha asked.

"Something you go have done where they clean your nails and pretty them up." Kagome said. "It makes your hands look better. Speaking of which, maybe you should have a manicure."

"Feh! No one touches my claws." Inuyasha said.

Kagome took one of the few remaining cookies from the plate. "We should go and find me some clothes before they close."

"Yeah." Inuyasha replied as he ate another cookie.

Both Inuyasha and Kagome reached for another cookie-or in this case the final cookie on the plate. Kagome ended up being the last in line for the cookie with her hand on top of Inuyasha's.

"Hey, that's my cookie." Kagome said.

"Feh!" Inuyasha said as he kept his hand on the cookie. "Who says?"

"Let's split it." Kagome suggested.

"No!" Inuyasha refused. "You ate half of the plate by yourself!"

"Inuyasha..." Kagome said angrily.

Inuyasha felt a burning sensation on top of his hand where Kagome's hand touched his own. He jerked his hand away in pain.

"What?" Kagome asked.

Inuyasha looked at the back of his hand. "Uh...Kagome...I think this explains your door..."

"What?" Kagome repeated.

"You're gaining powers." Inuyasha said. He turned his hand to where she could see it. It resembled all the times that Sesshoumaru had melted his arms-the poison claws.

"NANI!" Kagome stood up and yelled. "Oh no! Now I'm gaining his powers to melt stuff!" She looked at her hands and rubbed one of her fingernails across the back of her other hand, cutting the skin slightly. "AND MY NAILS ARE CLAWS! What the hell is this!"

"I don't know!" Inuyasha yelled as he stood up.

"Did your mother have any weird youkai-like powers?" Kagome asked.

"No, she was an ordinary human." Inuyasha said.

"Then why the hell am I gaining some of your brother's powers!" Kagome yelled.

"Maybe it's some kind of maternal or mate trade-off thing." Inuyasha said. "I really have NO idea! I've never heard of anything like this."

"So what, I'm gaining his powers to protect myself?" Kagome asked somewhat sarcastically.

"Or maybe, you're preparing the powers for the baby." Inuyasha replied. "I don't know!"

Kagome sat back down. "I hate this..."

"What?" Inuyasha asked.

"Everything, baka!" Kagome yelled. "What else!" She was now afraid to touch anything-afraid some weird youkai power would kick in. "Can I even control these powers?"

"Well." Inuyasha said. "When the poison worked, you were angry." Inuyasha sat down and held his hand out face down. "Touch me."

Kagome glared at him, but put her hand on top of his. She didn't burn him this time.

"Were you mad at me?" Inuyasha asked.

"Not really." Kagome replied.

"Well, get mad at me." Inuyasha said.

"You haven't made me angry." Kagome said bluntly.

(Well, making her angry at me will be simple.) Inuyasha though. "Okay. I love Kikyo."

Kagome was infuriated.

The burning began, causing Inuyasha to jerk his hand away. "See, anger does it."

Kagome snatched the cookie and ate it. "Fine." She said. "Let's just go to the mall so I can get home and sulk." She picked up the trash and stood up.

Inuyasha believed she would do exactly as she said and sulk the moment they made it back to her house.

Kagome began walking towards the park's edge and towards the mall with Inuyasha following shortly behind her.
