Part 8: "Do I have to explain to everyone?"

Kagome and Inuyasha sat in the living room. Kagome stared blankly at the wall, while Inuyasha was trying, yet again, to beat Souta at the game, and, again, was having no luck.

When supper was finished, Kagome and Inuyasha went to eat. Kagome didn't eat much; she was still thinking about what she should do-call that 1/15 youkai, Alexia, or not to.

Afterwards, she and Inuyasha went to her room.

"So, have you decided?" Inuyasha asked.

"Eh?" Kagome snapped out of her thoughts as she sat down on her bed.

"Feh! Are you going to call that woman?" Inuyasha asked.

Kagome sighed. "Maybe I should. She may be able to answer both of our questions."

"Our?" Inuyasha asked. "Oh, my curiosity about the youkai, you mean?"

"Of course, baka." Kagome said. She sighed. "It's after nine, so I suppose if I'm going to call, now would be an ideal time."

She stood up and walked to the door. "I suppose you want to listen in."

"Damn straight." Inuyasha stood up from his position on her rug and followed her, as she left the room and down the stairs.

Kagome went to the phone and picked up the receiver. She dialed the number and waited.

Someone picked up on the other end. "Hello?" A man answered.

"Um...excuse me; I need to speak to Alexia." Kagome replied.

Inuyasha used his keen sense of hearing to listen to the conversation.

"Alexia is busy at the moment." The man said.

"She asked me to call her at nine." Kagome said. "Tell her."

"Alexia, someone is on the phone for you." The man could be heard yelling in the background.

Over the phone, Kagome could hear running, and heard the phone be snatched up. "Oi, dear, I was wondering if you'd call me."

"Um...well...I had to think about it." Kagome replied. "Sorry about calling later than you asked."

"I was in the shower, don't worry about it." Alexia replied. "My little heathen wouldn't leave me alone until I made him go to bed, and so I'm late as well."

"Little heathen?" Kagome asked.

"My son." Alexia replied. "I can guess that you understand he's slightly irregular."

"So he's part youkai, too?" Kagome asked.

"Hell, yeah." Alexia said. "I don't know the math on it, since his dad was part youkai. It wasn't the one who answered the phone. My son's father kinda left me. Now, about what I was talking about in the mall. I suppose you're pregnant with a part-youkai child, so..."

"A hanyou." Kagome added.

"Hanyou?" Alexia asked with a hint of confusion in her voice. "Not many of those happen in this day and age-its all one of some rather larger number. 1/15 is rare, and that's what I am."

"Why's it odd?" Inuyasha asked.

"Nani?" Alexia asked. "So what's he? That man that's listening to our conversation. All I can tell is that he's an inu-youkai."

"You mean you can't tell what percentage a youkai he is?" Kagome asked.

"No, my sense of smell is partially lacking." Alexia said. "I could smell that you smelt like you have been with an inu-youkai, and I could tell that he was an inu-youkai; that's why I asked if he was your boyfriend. So what is he?"

"A hanyou." Kagome replied.

"Wow! That guy is a hanyou!" Alexia seemed excited. "That would explain his silver hair and gold eyes. I figured he was a 1/5 or something; a hanyou title is only for those who have one human parent and a youkai parent, or a hanyou parent and a youkai parent, the others are just partial breeds. Which is he?"

"One youkai, one human." Kagome replied.

"Wow, and he's an inu-youkai! He must be popular!" Alexia said.

"Why is that?" Inuyasha asked as he was confused by the conversation.

"Nifty; I'd rather explain in person." Alexia said. "My address is under my number. I'm off tomorrow and my husband wouldn't mind meeting you either. He's a doctor. I recommend him over others mainly because he knows how to deal with youkai. He can explain things about your pregnancy, and so can I. Meet me tomorrow at that address. I'll be here. Oh, by the way; what's your name?"

"Higurashi Kagome." Kagome replied.

"What is that guy's name?" Alexia asked.

"Inuyasha." Kagome replied.

"Mm, Okay." Alexia said. "See you tomorrow, I hope! Oh, shit; my heathen woke up and broke something. I gotta go, bye."

"Bye." Kagome replied.

Alexia hung up the phone causing Kagome to do the same.

"Okay." Inuyasha said. "So a hanyou is rare; what else is new?"

Kagome sighed. "Well...I suppose we're going to meet her tomorrow."

"Feh." Inuyasha said. "She sounds annoying. It's your choice."

"I'm just going to go to bed, now." Kagome said.

Kagome woke up feeling exhausted. It was ten in the morning, but she was totally exhausted. She felt slightly sick, again, but not as bad as she was the day before. She looked on her floor to find Inuyasha curled up with the shredded pillow as the day before, this time without the Tetsusaiga.

Inuyasha had changed into a pair of pajamas her grandfather had given him the night before, after they were through with the phone. Her grandfather also gave him some other clothes to where during the time they would be going out of the house. Also, her mother presented him with sandals, noting that he seemed uncomfortable in tennis shoes.

Kagome began to wonder about the baby and what he was going to look like; if he looked anything like Inuyasha, she'd be happy, even if it was Sesshoumaru's son as well as hers. Thinking about Sesshoumaru made her feel even sicker than she already felt. The sugar cookies Yuka had given them made her hyper and allowed her to partially get over the situation, but now, she was upset again.

She had to make a choice of who the surrogate father was going to be, and the only person she really wanted it to be was Inuyasha. He seemed willing to help her through the situation, but she was unsure if he would be willing to take the responsibility of being the child's surrogate parent. After all, he said it himself, he loved Kikyo, and Kagome felt like the second string.

Inuyasha stirred and opened his eyes to meet Kagome's gaze. "Nani...?"

Kagome giggled at the sleepy Inuyasha.

Inuyasha sat up at stretched. "Why were you watching me sleep? Couldn't find a door to break this morning?"

"Baka." Kagome said. "I don't feel that sick, today."

"I'm surprised after all those cookies you ate yesterday." Inuyasha said.

Kagome sat up. "Well, baka, good morning to you, too. I think sleeping on the floor is hurting your brain."

"Feh!" Inuyasha said. "I don't have to be nice when I wake up." He said sarcastically. "Besides, I'm used to sleeping on floors and on the ground.

"Baka." Kagome said. She stood up. "We're going to see Alexia today."

"Feh! Whatever." Inuyasha said.

"I'm going to take a bath first, go downstairs and wait in the living room." Kagome said.

"Feh!" Inuyasha said as he stood up. "I'm going to change first."

"Into this time's clothes I hope." Kagome said.

"Feh! Fine." Inuyasha said. "Hurry, so I can meet that youkai woman."

"Oh, that's it." Kagome said with a slight smile. "You're curious. She knows things and you're curious."

"Feh!" Inuyasha said.

Kagome laughed and gathered some clothes then proceeded down to take a bath.

Inuyasha was in the living room waiting for her, as she came into the room. He was glaring at an anime channel. She managed to pry him away from the TV, in order to leave.

They took a bus to Alexia's house, since it was on the opposite end of town. Inuyasha didn't like the bus, in fact he hated it. It took about five minutes of cursing and arguing before Kagome managed to talk him into getting on the bus.

Alexia's house was an elaborate house. It was a two-story house with a large garden in front of it.

Inuyasha walked to the door ahead of Kagome.

Kagome was slightly in awe of the house and garden to want to walk very fast. Alexia did say her husband was a doctor, but she didn't expect what seemed to be an ordinary woman working in a clothing store living in a house such as the one she lived in.

Inuyasha waited on the steps. "Kagome, let's go."

Kagome picked up her pace and walked to the door. She rang the doorbell, and waited.

The door opened and a little boy, probably five or six, stood on the other side. "Momma!" the boy called.

A moment later Kagome and Inuyasha heard running. Kagome recognized Alexia as she dashed down the stairs and to the door.

"Hi!" Alexia said. "Come in." She held the door open and pulled her son out of the way.

Kagome and Inuyasha entered the house.

Alexia shut the door and began walking down the hall, with the little boy following her. "Come on."

Inuyasha and Kagome followed the two down the hall to the living room.

Alexia sat down, along with her son, which caused Kagome and Inuyasha to sit.

"Well, are you going to speak?" Alexia asked.

Kagome looked up at Alexia. "Um...I was just wondering... If you live in such a nice house, why do you work in a clothes store."

"That's simple." Alexia said. "I do it to help people like you in this modern age."

"Feh!" Inuyasha snapped. "So you bother people and invite them to your house."

"Actually, you two are the first I've ever invited to the house before." Alexia said. "I had to meet you, so I could meet a hanyou."

Inuyasha growled.

"Inuyasha." Kagome said.

"Don't worry; I'm thrilled to meet a hanyou!" Alexia said. "Supposedly one of my ancestors had a little rivalry against one, but he eventually sucked it up and got over it in order to save the world."

Inuyasha continued growling. "What kind of youkai are you?"

"I'm 1/15 wolf-youkai." Alexia explained.

Alexia's son looked at Inuyasha. "What's he?"

"Oh, yeah, this is Panko, my son." Alexia said as she patted the boy on the head. "He's an inu-hanyou, Panko." She explained to the boy.

Panko shrugged and looked at Kagome.

"So what would you have rather explained in person?" Kagome asked.

"Oh, yeah, why this hanyou would be popular." Alexia said. She reached beside the couch where she was sitting and picked up a scroll of some sort. "This legend is why."

"Legend?" Inuyasha asked.

"Hai." Alexia said. "According to this legend, written by my ancestor and his wolf clan. Supposedly an inu-hanyou, my ancestor, another youkai, and a human destroyed the evil Naraku."

"NANI!" Kagome and Inuyasha yelled simultaneously.

Alexia recoiled at the yelling.

"Does it say their names?" Inuyasha asked.

"Just the inu-hanyou's name; and I know my ancestor's name." Alexia explained. "That's why I said you must be popular. After all you do have the same name as the one who killed Naraku."

(Okay, so Inuyasha is going to destroy Naraku; that's nice to know.) Kagome thought. "What happened after that?" she asked.

"Hm?" Alexia said. "Well, that's inconclusive. Something about the inu-hanyou, the human, and the other youkai disappearing; but no one knew where they went other than my ancestor and some old woman named Kaede."

"Can I see the scroll?" Kagome asked.

"Sure." Alexia said as she handed the scroll to Kagome.

Kagome opened the scroll and looked at the writing. The writing was bad, and somewhat hard to read. None of the story went into detail as she scanned through it.

Inuyasha was peering over her shoulder to get a look at the scroll. "Is this all of the legend?"

"No... This is the only part I own though." Alexia explained. "I read something in my brother's scroll about an event at a miko's home, but that's also inconclusive. My ancestor was kinda dense."

A man walked into the room. "Who are these people, Alexia?"

"Oh, yeah!" Alexia stood up and faced the man and pointed to Kagome. "This is the woman I gave the card to yesterday, Tye. She's the one pregnant with a hanyou."

Tye looked at Kagome. "She's young, isn't she?" He looked at Inuyasha, "Are you...?"

"No." Inuyasha said bluntly.

Kagome looked down at her wrists. "It was sorta...not my choice to get pregnant..."

Alexia looked at Kagome and then at Panko. "Panko, go to your room."

Panko stood up and ran out of the living room.

"What do you mean...by not your choice?" Alexia asked.

"Do I have to explain to everyone?" Kagome said with a hint of anger in her voice.

Inuyasha stood up and jumped away from Kagome. "Hey, Kagome, the youkai-powers come with anger."

"And now you're avoiding me again!" Kagome yelled at Inuyasha. "I wasn't going to touch you or anything! I'm not going to melt you!"

"Feh!" Inuyasha blurted out. "You don't know what it feels like to get part of your skin melted of!"

"Really!" Kagome stood up and faced Inuyasha. "Don't you remember, baka! He tried to KILL me by melting me when I pulled your damn sword out!"

"You're alive; get over it!" Inuyasha yelled. He gulped when he saw how angry she became.

"Oi, Kagome, Inuyasha...what are you going on about?" Alexia asked as she looked at the two. "I have a feeling your situation is more than it seems."

"Obviously." Tye said as he walked over to stand next to Alexia.

Kagome sat back down and calmed herself. "Inuyasha, osuwari."

Inuyasha hit the floor with a thud mumbling curses into the carpet.

Alexia and Tye looked at both Inuyasha and Kagome with confusion.

Alexia clapped her hands together. "Oi! I get it! You are the same Inuyasha as in the legend! That would explain how you disappeared!"

Inuyasha sat up. "Baka! I haven't disappeared yet; Naraku is still alive and kicking in my time."

"Wow!" Alexia cheered. "This is wonderful! Not only do I get to meet a hanyou, but I get to meet the Inuyasha and you must be the Miko!" She looked at Kagome. "After all you didcall from a shrine."

"Hai." Kagome mumbled.

"So; tell me all about that time!" Alexia prodded. "Tell me, please!"

"Why...? Don't you know?" Kagome asked.

"Feh!" Inuyasha grumbled. "I don't see why we should tell you! It isn't like it matters anyway!"

"For your information, everything before the Naraku battles is a complete mystery as well as the events afterwards." Alexia said sarcastically. "The last thing the scrolls say is that the youkai problems are contained due to a spell and the one who ripped the heart out of the hanyou Naraku was the hanyou Inuyasha, who disappeared along with the other youkai and the human houshi."

"Human houshi...? Oh...Miroku." Kagome said.

"Do the scrolls say anything about what happened to Sesshoumaru?" Inuyasha asked.

"Sesshoumaru...?" Alexia asked. "I don't know anything about him."

Inuyasha laughed. "See Kagome, I said not to worry about it!"

Kagome rolled her eyes. "Well it really doesn't say anything about me either. And what about Sango? We could both die or worse."

"Oi, dear, I read in one scroll that the Miko and a youkai exterminator stayed out of the final battle." Alexia said.

"See!" Inuyasha said.

"Fine, fine, whatever." Kagome said sarcastically. "You're going to kill Naraku and I'm going to have your sadistic brother's baby; can't we just get to the real point of coming here, or would you rather pry to your success that you haven't had yet."

Inuyasha gulped when he heard her sarcastic tone and decided he needed to shut up.

"So...um...you're having his...uh...brother's baby?" Alexia asked. "So...who is this guy?"

"My cruel, evil, and narcissistic bastard elder half-brother named Sesshoumaru." Inuyasha bluntly described.

"That's why he seemed thrilled to hear about you not knowing anything about him." Tye said to Alexia.

Kagome sighed. "Can we just talk about what you really need to talk to me about, Alexia-san?"

"Hai!" Alexia said. "Tye, this would be a good time for you to cut in; you are the doctor."

"Well." Tye sat down on the couch. "Your situation is obviously more complex than most I've dealt with. I don't know all about youkai, and youkai pregnancies but I know enough. Since you act like you were...claimed beyond your will and impregnated without wanting to be..."

"I was raped." Kagome said bluntly with some anger in her tone. "People like to avoid the simple terms around me lately, or utmost avoid me if they know whose powers I'm gaining part of." She glared at Inuyasha. She looked at Tye. "And about that; why am I gaining youkai-like powers?"

"Well, it doesn't happen much anymore, now that all of the commonly seen youkai races are diluted-like Alexia and her son." Tye explained. "But supposedly, it is a protective feature which grows stronger over the length of the pregnancy. It stops happening as often when they dilution falls to 1/6 youkai."

Kagome slumped down on the couch. "The powers...are going to get stronger...?" She mumbled. (Oh, great... I really am beginning to want to die. Maybe I should go to the past and ask him to kill me or maybe I should kill him using these powers... Yet again, on second thought, that's stupid.)

Inuyasha looked at Kagome, who seemed to be growing depressed even more by the moment.

"In fact, some of the powers may be near equal to the one who 'gave' them to you." Tye said.

Inuyasha jumped back to the couch and sat down next to Kagome. "Feh! Who cares if they do?" So he lied. "Just give her the information she needs to know."

"So what, are you...going to be the surrogate father?" Tye asked.

"Eh?" Inuyasha was at a loss for words. He didn't like people prying into what he was thinking. "Feh!"

"Personally, knowing you're a hanyou, it probably would be a good idea." Tye explained. "I knew about youkai before I met Alexia, but when I became her son's surrogate father I didn't know what I was in for."

Kagome looked at Inuyasha. (He didn't say no.)

Alexia looked at Kagome. "Ah, okay." She smiled.

Kagome and Inuyasha looked at Alexia.

"We should let Kagome-chan decide on who the other parent should be, unless she wants to fall to those laws and belong to a 'cruel, evil, and narcissistic bastard' for the rest of her life." Alexia said. "Or might I add, since he's full youkai, for the rest of his life."

Kagome's mind blanked out. She hadn't really thought about that-how long she would live if it did end up that way-and knowing it now didn't make her feel any better.

"So the only way to relieve that is to find someone else you indeed worthy." Alexia explained cunningly. "Since your baby is a hanyou, you might want to find someone close to that-another hanyou, a youkai, or a 1/3. It seems to me, this guy would be prime choice unless you speak something against it."

Kagome blushed when she saw Alexia grinning at them.

Inuyasha had turned away from Alexia and Tye's gaze. "Feh! Mine your own damn business! Tell Kagome what she needs to know or we'll just leave!"

Tye cleared his throat. "Yes, Alexia, allow me to finish."

"Oi, fine." Alexia said as she crossed her arms and legs and closed her eyes keeping a grin on her face.

Tye went on to explain the facts of Kagome's pregnancy and how much it was similar but different to a normal human pregnancy. The fact that she would get tired and sick during the first month was similar to that of the first three months of a normal human pregnancy; during the second month, she would begin to show as a woman would in a fourth month of a normal pregnancy. That's when things changed. During that time, she would spend more time sleeping and resting. During the last month, she'd want to eat more and would be extremely moody and overprotective of herself; also during that time the youkai-like powers she was already gaining would reach their final point-near max-until she delivered the baby.

Tye explained that unlike normal human pregnancies she wouldn't necessarily need prenatal care-her body would take care of everything. He explained that if she needed anything that it would be best if she contacted him or Alexia, otherwise she just needed to rest and take care of herself.

Kagome raised a question to Tye and Alexia about abortion. Both of them protested her even thinking about it, unless she wanted to die. As long as she was pregnant with the baby her life and the baby's life was conjoined-if one died, so would the other, at any time during the pregnancy.

When Inuyasha asked what abortion was, they all just disregarded the question, not feeling the need to answer his question.

After the conversation of needed information, Alexia began asking questions again about the past, which neither Kagome nor Inuyasha really wanted to answer.

Tye managed to get Alexia out of the room long enough to see the two out of the house.

"Sorry, about Alexia." Tye said as he led the out of the house and into the garden. "She pries too much into other people's personal business. She is fascinated with that legend by which you haven't even played out to the end yet."

"Feh!" Inuyasha said. "Damn straight."

Kagome smiled. "Well, thank you, Tye-san."

"Just call me Tye." He said. "I hate formalities." He looked at the house. "You better go before Alexia figures out that I led you out without her knowing. She'd be here in a second using what youkai power of hers is not diluted with human blood."

"Her speed?" Kagome asked.

"Yes." Tye said with a sigh. "That time I called her to the phone last night. She was on the other end of the house upstairs. It was nice meeting you two, and I'm sure Alexia was glad to meet you as well. You have the number to the house, so, Kagome, you can call me anytime you feel the need. You may want to avoid visits, since Alexia won't leave you alone."

"I agree." Inuyasha said as he looked at Kagome.

"Thank you." Kagome said. "Bye."

Inuyasha and Kagome headed home as quickly as they could in order to make sure Alexia didn't catch them before they got too far. They were asked a lot of questions by the 1/15 wolf-youkai, and Kagome receive much needed answerers to her questions from Tye, the human doctor.

To Inuyasha, who had went to find out about the youkai situation; some facts still seemed out of place-like what happened in the past other than Naraku's defeat to cause such a change to this present society. It was complicated-both Kagome's situation and why youkai's are not found in her time. That worried him-what if something bigger was going on than anyone could realize. He just hoped that during all of this, he and Kagome wouldn't be caught in anything that would answer such a question.
