Brotherly Contention

Chapter 1: Injured Demon

"Inu-Yasha, look out," Kagome yelled at the hanyou.

Inu-Yasha jumped out of the way just in time to miss the attack launched by the snake youkai. He swung the Tetsusaiga and completed the Cutting Wind. The snake Youkai disintegrated and two more Shikon shards were revealed. Kagome picked them up off the ground and added them to the collection she wore around her neck. Almost half of the jewel had been collected and the group was very happy. They would soon go after Naraku for the rest of the jewel.

"At least it had some shards. It actually made it worth fighting," Inu-Yasha said with pride.

"You know Inu-Yasha, you could save a little bit of that extra energy you have and use it to work on your attitude," Kagome said.

"What's wrong with my attitude?"

"You're too arrogant for your own good," Shippo said answering the question for Kagome.

"Am not," Inu-Yasha said as he hit the kitsune on the head.

"Sit!"

Inu-Yasha ate dirt. The group continued to talk about the coming up battle.

"I'll finally be allowed to stop worrying about my, wind tunnel," Miroku said.

He smiled at Kagome and Sango, but didn't touch them knowing they would hit him and yell hentai the first time he tried.

"I'll be able to finally let Kohaku rest in peace," Sango said.

"And we'll be able to rest and stop worrying," Kagome said.

"Feh, you can do what you want, but I'll get the good end of the deal when the Shikon Jewel is finished and I can use it to become demon," Inu-Yasha said.

"Sit!"

The hanyou once again hit the dirt. They continued to talk about the future. Unknown to them a battle raged on elsewhere.

Sesshoumaru stood his ground against the clan of cat youkai. Cuts and bruises covered his body from trying to fight off the entire clan at once. He knew that he wouldn't last much longer and now wished that he had let Rin and Jakken stay close by.

"Are you going to give up, Sesshoumaru," the clan's leader said.

"No, I'll die before I give in to worthless youkai like you. My father bested your clan before and I will do so now."

Sesshoumaru attacked and killed two of the youkai before he was thrown to the ground once again. He tried to stand up and fight, but he knew it was a losing battle. The clan's claws were filled with poison like his own, but their poison had a unique effect. Sesshoumaru's wounds should have begun to heal themselves but a chemical in the poison prevented it from happening. The cat clan continued to hurt Sesshoumaru.

"You are weak, Sesshoumaru. Give up," the leader taunted.

"Never," was Sesshoumaru's weak reply.

"Then die!"

The leader swung her sword. Sesshoumaru felt the full affect of the strike. He flew backwards and over the cliff they were fighting on. He fell into the river running below him and tried to reach land, but blacked out as the water carried him away.

The cat youkai turned to the nearest member of her clan.

"Get down there and make sure he's dead. If not, I want him back here so I can finish him off."

As the clan left the leader smirked and followed her clan down to the ground below them.

"I'm going to go take a bath," Kagome told Sango.

"Ok, I'll make sure the boys don't bug you."

Kagome smiled at her friend and took off towards the river. She bathed and stepped out of the water to get dressed. Kagome felt compelled to follow the riverbank, so she did. As she walked she saw a creature halfway submerged in the water and halfway on land. Kagome ran to it's side and made and effort to turn it over. She screamed as she saw who it was.

Inu-Yasha, Sango, Miroku, and Shippou took off towards the river at the sound of the scream. They found Kagome quickly.

"What is it Kagome," Sango asked.

Kagome only pointed to the sorry sight before her.

"It's Sesshoumaru," Miroku said as he approached the youkai and felt for a pulse.

"What do you think happened to him," Shippou asked.

"I don't know. He's alive, but he's fading fast. I know you dislike him Inu-Yasha, but he has come to our aid once before. Perhaps it is time to return the favor," Miroku said.

"Feh, let's just get this over with."

With that the group put Sesshoumaru on Kilala and took off towards Kaede's village in an effort to save him.
