The darkness was swept away as Yashima opened her eyes letting in the bright sunlight. Morning? she mumbled picking herself up off the floor of the well. Did it work? she asked herself while dusting off her clothes. Shrugging, Yashima wedged her fingers into the cracks of the wells side and pulled herself up.

First the top of her head appeared followed by two curious eyes. She smiled in satisfaction as she glanced at the tall trees that surrounded the well from all sides. There was no sign of modern Tokyo or of her family shrine. It worked! she squealed in delight. Suddenly, she felt a powerful arm yank her up by her collar. The girl struggled, snapping furiously at the man tying her up. What are you doing in the Bone Eaters Well, half demon? he grunted. The other men gathered around her. Hmm. Such a strange lass. Lets bring her to Lady Kaede. one suggested. Lady Kaede?!

Flames leapt from the fire as the old woman stabbed at it with a well charred stick. Lady Kaede! Weve found a young girl by the well! One man said sticking his head in past the animal skin doorway. Make haste and bring her in! Kaede ordered straightening out her shirt. A strange girl was thrust in through the door followed by two burly men. Well Ill be! Kaede muttered. The old woman stood and studied over the girl. She is. Kaede said after studying of the girl. Pray tell, what is your name child? Kaede asked motioning for the guards to untie her. They did so and the girl rubbed her wrists. Yashima Higurashi. Yashima muttered. Kaede nodded and hid her smile. Then it is so. Another girl appeared from the back room. Grandmother, who is it? she asked in a foreign tone. This is the daughter of Kagome and Inu-Yasha. Kaede replied. Everyone gasped. You- You know my mother and father? Yashima asked. Kaede nodded. "mailto:Then ! Kaede smiled. First, eat child. This after noon I shall tell you.

It was noon before long and Kaede led Yashima out into the courtyard. Now, Kaede-sama, can you tell me where to find my father? Yashima asked politely. Kaede pressed a medallion and a note into Yashimas palm. See that shrine out yonder? Kaede asked. Yashima nodded and thrust the objects into her jeans pocket. You shall find your answers there. Good luck child. Yashima bowed slightly and set off towards the shrine.

Villagers whispered to each other and stared as Yashima walked by. Some stopped and talked to her, all of which scared her to some degree. Ah, Lady Kagome is well, yes? An older man asked Yashima. Yes sir. In very good condition. She has not been sick for a long time. The old man looked down sadly. I wish I could say the same for Lord Inu-Yasha The man muttered to himself. Yashima shifted her bag uncomfortably. I wonder what that meantshe whispered. She opened the door to the shrine and stepped inside.

There was a monk sitting on the floor meditating with an older man near the altar dusting. Excuse me, is this where Lord Inu-Yasha resides? Aye. The man said with a nod. And who are you, lass? I am Yashima, his daughter. Do you have the note of approval from Lady Kaede and the medallion? Yashima pulled the items out of her pocket and then handed the man the note. He read it over and then nodded. As long as you have that medallion, you are welcome here, child. Now, come with me. Yashima followed and out of the corner of her eye noticed the monk who had looked up from his meditation to smile at her.

The old monk pulled a key from his pocket and opened the door at the back of the hall. He pushed them open allowing the sunlight from outside to flood into the hallway. Here you are. Stay as long as you want. I shall leave you to your thoughts. he said. Yashima bowed and then scurried into the small courtyard only to have the door shut behind her.

Faded stone walls surrounded the well paved courtyard and overgrown trees broke their roots through the stonework. The sunlight dappled across the paved stone were grass and weeds had grown up through the cracks. In the middle was a huge stone block, about three feet high and seven feet long. Yashima couldnt make out what was on it but approached anyway. The wind rustled her hair as she starred down into the face of a man. He seemed young, maybe twenty eight and had silvery hair with doglike ear protecting off of the top of his head. Clinging to his lifeless figure were red robes. His feet were bare and around his neck were some weird rosary beads. Clutched in his hands was a rusty old sword, chips taken out of its blade. Hes hes dead. Yashima muttered, still not recognizing the man. Then she read the inscription on the slab:

Here lies the remains of Lord Inu-Yasha, son of the great demon dog and of a beautiful human maiden. He died from an arrow wound while helping his wife, Lady Kagome, and their daughter, Yashima, escape from demons that were after the Shikon no Tama. A true warrior, friend, and husband, Inu-Yashas legacy will live on forever.

Yashima slumped to the ground, tears running down her pale face. No, it cant be! she sobbed. He cant be dead! She laid her forehead to rest on the side of the stone slab. Fathershe muttered before falling into a depression induced rest.

Lass, wake up! Yashimas yellow eyes flickered as she sat up. She was still in the courtyard resting up against the slab that held her fathers body. Whos there? she asked wiping away the remainder of her tears. She felt a pinch on her shoulder and as a reflex, Yashima slapped at it and removed her hand. Smashed to it was a little old flea. Sorry! Yashima said, distraught. The flea popped back into his original figure. Dont worry, I get it a lothe muttered. Who are you? Yashima asked. I am Myoga the flea! I was servant to your father, Lord Inu-Yasha, and his father before him. And now, I am at your service, Lady Yashima. The bug made a short bow. You you knew my father? Myoga nodded. It is a sad story indeed Myoga said. Yashima nodded. And to think, Ive hated him since I was a kid because he just abandoned me and my mother but he really died saving us Yashima muttered, tears springing to her eyes again. Hush now! Dont cry! There is a way that you can reviving him! Yashima looked up. There is? The flea nodded. I shall tell you later but for now, it is getting late. We had best be heading back into the village. Youre right. Yashima said standing up. Besides, its almost dinner.

Everyone sat around the fire after dinner talking. Now, what were you saying about reviving Lord Inu-Yasha? Nokuyuki, Kaedes grand daughter, asked. Myoga closed his eyes. The Shikon no Tama will help to give its owner enough power to reviving my lord. Yashima is the only one with the power to do so. Yashima jumped up. Then what are we waiting for?! Today at my fathers grave, I swore I would not leave until he was back in my arms! Yashima cried. Its not that simple my lady. No one has seen the Shikon no Tama since his death. It is rumored to be possessed by a demon in the north. But it can change hosts easily. Myoga said. And youll need others to accompany you. Myoga added.

Nokuyuki smiled. I will gladly join you in your noble quest, Yashima-chan! she said proudly. Yashima smiled back. Thanks. Myoga rubbed his chin. You need a man on the journey. A strong lad that can protect you both. Yashima sweat dropped. You think we need a guy?! she asked, furious. I know just the person! In the morning, I shall call on him. Myoga said. Kaede nodded. A wise choice Myoga-jiji. Now, let us sleep on it. The hut settled into darkness as the fire went out for the night.
