Chapter 6

The Hospital

Kagome was tired. She was taking a break, well trying to take a break but every time she sat down some guy came by and tried to talk to her. She tried to politely say she was on her break and needed some rest but they just kept talking.

So after the fourth time of getting up to move away from some guy she decided to go into Miroku's VIP room. He was in there with Inuyasha and Sesshomaru but it was better than being hit on random guys who couldn't take the hint.

"Hey Kagome." Miroku said. "Taking a break?"

"I'm trying to." She said.

"Trying to?" Sesshomaru asked.

"Hai since our new uniforms guys have been hitting on me every time I try to sit down." Kagome shot a look at Miroku.

"Gomen but it does attract people." Miroku said.

"The men anyway." Sesshomaru added.

"At leas the uniforms flatter you. You wouldn't want to wear something that made you look like an old lady right?" Miroku said.

"I'd rather wear something like that. This outfit makes me feel like a hooker." Kagome said.

"Or a dominatrix." Inuyasha mumbled.

"I think I'll go back to work. I'd rather do that then get insulted by a jerk." Kagome said and left.

Sesshomaru and Miroku shot Inuyasha a look. "What?" Inuyasha said.

"Couldn't you be any nicer?" Miroku asked.

"He's always like that around girls he likes." Sesshomaru said.

"Really?" Miroku asked. "How do you know?"

"He's never acted like this before around women. Usually he insults them more." Sesshomaru said. "It's his way of being nice."

"Really?" Miroku said.

"I do not like her." Inuyasha said. He got up and stomped out of the room to get a drink.

"You're right he does like her." Miroku said.

"I think I'll go talk to Rin." Sesshomaru said.

"I might as well go to. I wouldn't want to be in this room by myself." Miroku said.

Kagome was walking towards the bar to get drinks but was stopped when a guy grabbed her and sat her down on his lap. "Hey your pretty." He said. He was really drunk.

"Hey let go." Kagome said. She was able to slip out of his hands. Kagome turned around to slap him when he touched her butt. Inuyasha was holding the guy up by his shirt.

"It's not right to touch women even if you're drunk." He said and threw him back in his seat. He grabbed Kagome's hand and dragged her back to the bar.

"Thank you Inuyasha." Kagome said. She thought he was really weird. One minute he was a jerk and the next minute he was helping her from getting molested by a drunk.

"Any time." Inuyasha said. He ordered his drink and went to go find Miroku.

By the end of the night Kagome was so tired she couldn't even see straight. She was putting things away and her vision started messing up. Her eyesight was getting blurry and it was too hard to move things.

She wobbled as she lifted a box of shot glasses. She put the box down and blinked a couple of times. She went to lift the box again. She turned to walk towards the shelf so she could put them up but dropped them. The glass shattering was the last thing she heard before she passed out.

Sango and Rin heard the glass shatter and ran to see what happened. Seeing their friend on the floor was not one of them. Sango carefully walked over the glass with her heels and kneeled down next to her friend. "Kagome! Kagome!" Sango shouted.

"I'll go get Miroku." Rin said. She ran as fast as she could to the room he was in. "Kagome's passed out on the floor."

"What happened?" Miroku asked as they ran to her.

"I don't know. We heard glass break and saw her on the floor when we ran back in." Rin said.

Inuyasha and Sesshomaru had gone with them when Rin ran into the room yelling. They saw her on the floor. She had some cuts from the glass she fell on. "We need to get her to the hospital." Sango yelled when she saw everyone.

"Let's go." Miroku said. "Get her in my car."

"I'm going too." Sango said.

"I'll lock up and meet you guys at the hospital." Rin said.

"You don't have a car." Miroku said. "It's too late at night to walk around alone."

"I'll drive her." Sesshomaru said.

"Arigato Sesshomaru." Rin said. She grabbed the keys from Miroku and went back into the club.

After they arrived at the hospital a couple of nurses and a doctor took her to a room. Miroku and Sango sat in the waiting room. Later Rin, Sesshomaru, and Inuyasha came in. "How is she?" Rin asked.

"We don't know yet." Sango said.

"There's the doctor." Miroku said.

"Well your friend is fine. She has minor cuts but nothing serious. She must have passed out from exhaustion. She seems stressed and hasn't been eating properly. She can go home tomorrow after she wakes up but she'll need to stay off her feet for at least a week." The doctor said. "Oh and one of you might want to watch her and make sure she eats regularly and gets sleep."

"We'll be sure to do that." Sango said. "Can we see her?"

"Well she's not awake yet but I guess it's ok as long as you be quiet." The doctor said. He turned and walked away.

"You and Rin can go." Miroku said.

"Hai, come on Rin." Sango said. She grabbed her hand and walked to Kagome's room.

Kagome was sleeping on the bed in the hospital nightgown. "I wonder what they thought of her wearing that bar outfit?" Rin asked.

"You mean the ones we're wearing now?" Sango said.

Rin looked down. "Oh yeah." She said.

"I'll stay with her and wait until she wakes up." Sango said.

"Too late." Kagome said. She opened her eyes. She looked around. "Where the hell am I?"

"You're in the hospital baka. You completely wore yourself out. You've been pushing yourself too hard and you haven't been eating right!" Rin yelled. It took a lot to get her riled up like this.

"Gomen." Kagome said.

"Don't be sorry just don't do it again." Rin said.

"The doctor said you have to rest for at least a week." Sango said.

"What? What am I going to do about work? What about Miroku?" Kagome said.

"I'm sure we can manage a week without you." Sango said.

"Yeah Sango and I will come by and make sure your ok and eating well and stuff." Rin said.

The doctor walked into the room. "Oh you're awake. Well I hate to ruin your little visit but I need to talk to Kagome alone. You may be able to leave now if your friends help you out."

"Hai, we'll be back soon Kagome." Rin said.

"How is she?" Miroku asked.

"She's fine. The doctor said she might be able to come home now but someone will need to take her and watch her for a while." Sango said.

"You can go see her now. All of you can go if you want. You can take her with you just sign out at the front desk." The doctor said.

"Thank you." Sango said. Her, Miroku, Rin, Sesshomaru, and Inuyasha all went to go see how she was doing. Even though two of them didn't know her that well.

"So what did the doctor talk to you about?" Sango asked.

"Well I have to stay off my feet for a week, I need to watch what I eat, and I need to quit one of my jobs." Kagome said. "He said they were too stressful for me and I need to stop doing one of them even if I'm just helping out at the club. He said you should either hire me or find someone else."

"Well Kagome if you want to work at the club I will have no objections. Just let me know when you decide if you want to work at the club or the daycare." Miroku said.

"I still have to call my boss about not being able to come in for a week." Kagome said.

"I'm sure she'll understand. You are her granddaughter." Sango said.

"Well let's get you to your house." Miroku said.

"How am I going to get there?" Kagome said. "I don't have a car, besides I'm not allowed to drive or walk for a while."

"I can take you home." Inuyasha said.

"You've already taken me home plenty of times." Kagome said.

"So what's one more time?" Inuyasha said.

"Well then lets get you checked out." Miroku said.

"Umm...is it all right if I change first?" Kagome asked.

"Oh yeah, guess you wouldn't want to wear the hospital gown home." Sango said.

Kagome got dressed once everyone left the room. `Great like this is any better than the hospital gown.' Kagome thought. She walked out of the room and met with her friends.

"Ok I'm ready." Kagome said. She shivered from being cold. "Why are all hospitals so cold?"

"I don't know." Sango said. Everyone else nodded in agreement.

"Here wear this." Inuyasha handed her his jacket.

"Thanks." Kagome said as she slipped it around her shoulders.

"Kagome I'll call you tomorrow." Sango said.

"Hai." Kagome said.

"Come on you need to check out at the front desk." Inuyasha said.

"Hai." Kagome said.

After they checked out they walked to Inuyasha's car. They walked slowly because Kagome was so tired. She felt kind of dizzy. She wobbled on her feet for a minute before falling. Inuyasha saw and caught her.

"Are you ok?" He asked.

"I just feel a little dizzy." Kagome said.

"You should've said something." Inuyasha said. He lifted her up and carried her to his car.

"Well you're already doing so much for me and I hardly even know you." Kagome said. "Don't you think its kind of akward?"

"Not really." Inuyasha said. He opened the passenger door and set her down.

The car ride was really silent. "So why do you help me if you don't know me?" Kagome asked. The question had been on her mind for a while and she finally had the opportunity to ask him.

"I don't know." Inuyasha said.

"Do you always help people you don't know like this?" Kagome asked.

"No you're just special." He said. Kagome blushed. He stopped the car in front of her apartment. "What floor do you live on?"

"The fourth." Kagome said.

"I'll help you go up there. I don't trust you going up those stairs with heels on while your dizzy." Inuyasha said. He got out and walked over to her side. He picked her up and walked in the building.

"You don't have to do this." Kagome said.

"Do you want to go back to the hospital because you fell down the stairs?" Inuyasha asked.

"Well no but..." Kagome said.

"No buts just shut up and let me help you." He said. When they got to her floor he stopped. "What room are you in?"

"The last door on the right." Kagome said. They went over there. Inuyasha set her down so she could open her door. "You didn't happen to grab my purse did you?"

"You forgot your purse?" Inuyasha asked.

"Well I was passed out." Kagome said. "How can I grab my purse?"

Inuyasha sighed. It was true. Everyone had been so worried no one remembered to grab her purse. He picked her up again. "Come on."

"What are you doing now?" Kagome asked.

"You can stay at my place for the night. I'll talk to Miroku and you can pick up your purse tomorrow." Inuyasha said.

"But..." Kagome said.

"What would you rather do? Stay at someone's house you don't know really well or sleep outside your front door? My guess is that you're really tired and want to go to bed." Inuyasha said.

"Fine." Kagome said.

They got in the car and drove to Inuyasha's house or apartment or wherever he lived. Kagome looked outside her window trying not to fall asleep. She had to call Kaede and tell her what happened. Although she would feel really bad about having to wake her up so early in the morning.

She was so out of it she hadn't realized that Inuyasha stopped the car until he opened her door. "We're here." He said.

"Oh." Kagome said. Inuyasha picked her up again. "I can walk now."

"I doubt you'd want to. My place is on the top floor." Inuyasha said.

"You own the whole floor?" Kagome asked.

"Yeah I didn't want any neighbors bitching at me about noise." Inuyasha said.

When they reached the top floor Inuyasha opened his door and set Kagome down on his couch. His place was huge. It had a great view. Through the window you could over look the city.

"Here you can use this to call your boss or whatever." Inuyasha said. "I'll be right back."

"Thank you." Kagome said. She called Kaede and told her about her predicament. Kaede said she hoped she got better soon and call her next week when she made up her mind on where she was going to work. She said she would be able to find a replacement easily since her granddaughter was moving in with her to take care of her.

Inuyasha came back into the room and threw some clothes at her. "You can wear those. I doubt you'd want to wear that outfit any longer than you have to. The boxers might be too big for you though."

"That's ok. Is there somewhere I can change?" She asked.

"The bathroom is right through there." He pointed to the door that was closest to Kagome.

She got up and shut the door. She got dressed and washed her face. She noticed she had a cut on her cheek. Good thing was most of the cuts would heal in a couple of days. Most of them were tiny like paper cuts. She walked back out.

"I made some ramen in case you were hungry." Inuyasha said. At that moment Kagome's stomach growled.

"Thanks." She said. She grabbed the bowl and took a seat at the table. He joined her with his ramen.

"Do you live alone?" Kagome asked.

"No, Shippo lives here too." Inuyasha said.

"Where is he? Aren't you taking care of him?"

"He's at his aunt's house for right now." Inuyasha said. "I drop him off after the daycare and pick him up in the morning. I usually watch him but his aunt wanted to see him for a while."

"Oh." Kagome said. They ate the rest of their food in silence. When Kagome was done she yawned. She let out a squeak of surprise when Inuyasha picked her up again. "I wish you'd warn me when you do that."

"Keh." Inuyasha said. He carried her to a room. "You can sleep in here. When you wake up tomorrow just come into the living room. I'll probably be in there."

"Thank you Inuyasha." Kagome said. He set her down on the bed and walked out. He shut the door and headed towards his room.

When he got there he wondered what the hell made him so nice. He just took a girl he barely knew into his house to stay the night. He decided to think about it later and went to sleep.
