Chapter 8

On Your Feet

Kagome walked back downstairs with Rin after she had gotten her key. She met Inuyasha and Shippo at the door. "I've got the key." She said.

"Let's go then." Inuyasha said. He grabbed Shippo's bag and led them to his car. They all got in and drove to Miroku's club. Inuyasha stopped as the car when they got there. "Shippo you're going to have to stay here."

"Hai." Shippo said.

"I can get it." Kagome said. She got out of the car and unlocked the club door. She held the jacket tightly around her as the wind blew around her. She walked in and went behind the bar to grab her purse.

She grabbed it and went back outside locking the door. She shoved the club keys in her purse and got back into the car. It looked like it was going to rain later on in the day. Inuyasha started the car and drove to her house.

"Did you need anything before I drop you off?" Inuyasha asked.

"Yeah something to do." Kagome muttered. "Um nothing really. I'll just be bored in my apartment since I can't go to work for a week. I still haven't decided where I'll work."

"You're not going to be at the daycare center?" Shippo asked.

"Not for a while. I've been ordered to stay in bed for a week by my doctor." Kagome said.

"Stupid doctor." Shippo pouted. He really liked Kagome.

The rest of the car ride was silent. Kagome looked out the window as they passed the tall buildings. The sky was gray and cloudy. There was probably a good chance of rain. `Great adds to my depression.' She thought. She was jerked out of her thoughts as the car stopped.

"Thanks for what you've done Inuyasha. Let me know if there's anything I can do to pay you back." Kagome said. She wrote her number down and handed it to him. She got out of the car and headed towards her apartment.

"How come she has to stay in bed?" Shippo asked. Inuyasha started the car and drove off.

"She overworked herself and passed out last night." Inuyasha said.

"I want to make her a get well card." Shippo said. "How will I get it to her?"

"Just give it to me when you're done. I'll deliver it to her." Inuyasha said.

"Can we get flowers too?" Shippo asked excitedly.

"Yeah yeah." Inuyasha said. He made a turn and headed towards a flower shop.

Kagome got into her house and sighed. Nothing was better than being in your own home. She decided to take a nice long relaxing bath. She walked into the bathroom and started adjusting the water.

She went to her answering machine to check her messages. "Hey Kagome it's me Sango. I'm just calling to ask what you were up to today. Call me when you get home."

Kagome decided to take a nap and call her afterwards. She crawled in her bed and wrapped the blankets around her and fell asleep.

Kagome woke up to a pounding noise. She threw on her robe and walked into the living room. It sounded like someone was pounding on the door. She opened it. "Sango do you have to try and knock down my door?" Kagome asked.

"Gomen, I thought something might have happened to you." Sango said.

"No, I was just sleeping." Kagome said.

"Oh so are you going to let me in or make me stay out here?"

"Depends what you're here for." Kagome said.

"I just wanted to know what you were doing today? You were with Inuyasha and from what I've seen of you two you don't like him." Sango said.

"Fine come in." Kagome said. She stepped out of the way and told her to sit on the couch. She made some tea and sat down with her. She told Sango what had happened after she left the club.

"Seems like you had a busy day. So have you decided where you were going to work?" Sango asked.

"I don't know. I mean I like the kids at the daycare center but Miroku does pay a lot of money and he could really use the help and I get to work with you and Rin." Kagome said.

"Yeah but the uniforms are another story." Sango said.

"Well yeah but Miroku does pay a lot." Kagome said. "It's fun working with you guys."

"Sounds like you've already made your choice." Sango said.

"I guess I did." Kagome said. "I mean I can always help down at the daycare center every once in a while."

"Well then I guess I should go so you can make your phone calls. Is there anything you need?" Sango asked.

"No but thanks." Kagome said.

"All right. Call me if you need anything." Sango said.

"Hai." Kagome said. She shut the door behind Sango. She went into the kitchen to call Kaede then Miroku.

She had gotten off the phone with Kaede and Miroku. Kaede said that it would be great if she were to come every once in a while to help out. Miroku said that he would be honored to have her work there. Now he didn't have to feel so guilty about her working and not getting paid.

Now all she had to do was wait a week so she could do things. She was bored and wanted to do stuff now. Maybe she could go to the doctor and get a checkup to see if she can get up and do stuff earlier. It wouldn't hurt right?

Kagome got dressed and grabbed her purse. She got a cab and headed for the hospital. When she got there she thanked and paid the cab driver and got out. She walked into the hospital and asked for the doctor.

"We can call him but it might take a while. You can wait in that room over there and we'll call you when he's done." The nurse said.

"Arigato." Kagome said. She walked into the room the nurse pointed at and waited. Good thing she brought a book.

About an hour later the nurse called for Kagome. "Hai." She said.

"The doctor can see you now. Room 215." The nurse said.

"Arigato." Kagome said. She headed towards the room.

Half an hour later Kagome left the hospital. The doctor had done a full check up and told her she could go home. She was aloud back on her feet as long as she followed the precautions he told her about. She also had to go in for another check up in a couple of weeks.

Kagome got another cab and headed home. She couldn't do anything until later tonight when she could work at the club. She paid the cab driver and got out. She walked into her apartment and watched TV.

Woken up from the sound of knocking, Kagome got up and answered her door. She hadn't expected to fall asleep. "Hello." She said.

"Hi." Inuyasha said.

That was the last person she expected to see at her door. She thought it was Sango coming to check up on her. "What are you doing here?" She asked.

"The runt wanted to give you this." Inuyasha said. He handed her a card and some flowers.

Kagome took the gift and looked at it confused. "Come in." She said. She moved out of the way and shut the door after he walked in. "You can take a seat on the couch."

"Hai." Inuyasha said. He took a seat and looked around. A little kitchen was in the corner by the front door. A TV was set against the wall in front of him and the couch was in the middle of the room in front of it. A little table was in front of the couch.

To the right was a door, which he assumed to be her bedroom and another door behind him, which was probably the bathroom, or vice versa. Kagome walked to the table and set a vase with the flowers Shippo had given her.

"That was very nice of Shippo. He didn't come with you?" Kagome asked sitting next to him.

"No he's at his aunt's house." Inuyasha said.

"Oh does he always visit her this late?" Kagome asked.

"No it's just that I go to Miroku's club and I can't watch him while I'm there." Inuyasha said.

"What time is it?" Kagome asked.

"It's about six thirty." Inuyasha said.

"I need to get ready to go. I chose to work for Miroku." Kagome said. "I'm not going to have enough time to take a shower and get ready."

"Aren't you supposed to be resting?"

"Well I saw the doctor today and he said it was all right as long as I get enough sleep and eat well." Kagome said.

"I'll give you a ride so you can do what you have to do." Inuyasha said.

"But you've already done so much for me already and I hardly know you." Kagome said.

"So what? You can pay me back later if you want. I still have your number remember." Inuyasha said.

"Arigato. You can watch TV or something if you want." Kagome said. She ran into the bathroom and turned the shower on. Inuyasha shook his head but turned the TV on.

Kagome had just dried her self off when she realized that she'd forgotten her clothes. Now she was going to have to go out into the living room with a towel on and change in her room. Usually she wouldn't think about it and just go but Inuyasha was in the room.

She secured the towel around her and walked out of the room. She had bad timing. As she walked out she bumped into Inuyasha. "Umm I was just seeing if you were done." Inuyasha said.

"I just need to get dressed." Kagome said. She blushed and ran into her bedroom.

Inuyasha just sat back on the couch. This girl was so weird. She was wearing a towel what was the big deal about? Well she was just out of high school. What was he complaining about? He liked how she blushed.

After Kagome got dressed and fixed her hair she went into the living room. "I'm ready." She said.

Inuyasha looked at her. She was wearing a black dress with heels that had straps that wrapped around her legs. It was so casual but she looked great in it. He shook his head. "Let's go." He said.

Him and Kagome walked out of her apartment and into his car. Kagome was glad she grabbed her coat. It was freezing outside. It looked like it was going to rain. Black clouds filled up the sky.
