Chapter 23

Unwanted Arrangement

Personality: Basically an airhead. Good intentions, doesn't know when to stop.

Everyone had just gotten done eating dinner. Souta and Shippo were upstairs again playing video games. They had been playing non-stop since they first ran up to Souta's room.

Kagome's mom had run out to the store to get some groceries. Now it was just Kagome and Inuyasha sitting in the living room. "What should we do?" Kagome asked.

Inuyasha answered by capturing her lips. He'd wanted to do that all day and he never got the chance with everyone running around. He licked her lips and smiled when she opened for him.

They were stopped when someone had yelled. "What in the hell is going on?" Someone shouted.

Kagome looked at who it was. "Grandpa?" She said. He was supposed to be out of town for another couple of days. "What are you doing back early?"

Her grandpa was a short man who was wearing priest robes. They were white on top and black on the bottom. She also noticed that there was someone standing next to him. "I heard you were in town and I decided to cut my trip short." He said.

"Ano, is this a bad time?" The person beside him asked.

"I'm sorry you had to see that Hojo." Her grandfather said. He turned to Kagome. "I came early to show you your fiancé."

"Fiancé?" Kagome shouted.

"Hai, I arranged a marriage for you two. So that it won't be so shameful for you." Her grandfather said.

"No one arranges marriages anymore! I'm not marrying someone I don't know!" Kagome shouted.

"Don't raise your voice in my house." Her grandpa shouted.

"What do you expect when you come in and tell me I have to marry someone I don't know!?" Kagome said. "Nothing gives you the right to do that!"

"As your grandfather, I have a right. You've brought so much shame into this family. Marrying Hojo is the only way to fix it."

Kagome headed for the stairs but stopped when she noticed Inuyasha wasn't following her. She grabbed his arm and dragged him upstairs. Opening Souta's bedroom door she said, "Shippo, we have to leave now."

Shippo could tell she was in a bad mood and didn't question anything. "Gomen Souta. Maybe next time you can come visit me." Kagome said. She went into the guest room and grabbed Inuyasha's bags.

"So we're leaving?" Inuyasha asked.

"Hai." Kagome said.

Inuyasha grabbed the bags. He was going to find out what the hell was going on later. Shippo probably didn't need to know and Kagome was too angry. They headed for the door. "Don't you walk out of here!" Her grandpa shouted.

Kagome just ignored him and kept going, making sure Inuyasha and Shippo were behind her. Inuyasha put the stuff in the trunk and started the car. Kagome leaned her head against the window.

Within minutes she was sleeping. "Is something wrong with Kagome?" Shippo asked.

"I don't know." Inuyasha said.

Kagome opened her eyes. She recognized the room she was in. It was Inuyasha's guest room that she'd slept in before. She got out of the bed and walked into the living room. Inuyasha was sleeping on the couch. He was lying on his back.

Kagome screamed when his hands shot out and grabbed her. He pulled her down on top of him. "Shh or you'll wake Shippo." Inuyasha said.

"Well, if you wouldn't have grabbed me like that, then I wouldn't have screamed." Kagome said not aware of their current position. She was lying on top of Inuyasha with their legs weaved together.

"What's with your grandpa?" Inuyasha asked.

"He hates me. He didn't like my dad so he didn't like me either. Of course he was happy when Souta was born because he would carry on the family name. Grandpa got even madder when I told him I didn't want to work at the shrine. He only wanted me to work there until Souta could take over." Kagome said.

"He's a baka." Inuyasha said. "He should be proud of you."

Kagome rested her cheek on his chest. "Gomen for making you leave so quickly." Kagome said. "I can't believe he tried to arrange a marriage for me. No one does that anymore."

"I know." Inuyasha said. It had taken all of his control not to yell or hit the old man for saying that. He just stood quietly and waited for things to be over. "Don't worry about it." Inuyasha said.

Kagome yawned and rubbed her cheek on his chest. Inuyasha stroked her hair and eventually it lulled her to sleep. He smiled decided to go to sleep to.

Later that night Kagome woke up. She was cold. She was about to get up but was pulled back down. She blushed realizing she'd been sleeping on Inuyasha. She blushed even more when she realized their position.

One of Inuyasha's legs rested against the couch and his other was on the outside of Kagome's legs. She was in the middle of him and he wouldn't let go. What if Shippo came in?

`Too late.' Kagome thought when she heard running from down the hallway. Shippo ran into the room and stopped in front of them.

"Are you sleeping over?" Shippo asked.

"Shh, Inuyasha is sleeping." Kagome said.

"No, I'm not." Inuyasha said opening his eyes.

"How long have you been awake?" Kagome asked.

"Since you started moving." Inuyasha said. "Oi you're supposed to be in bed."

"I can't sleep." Shippo said.

"I told you before, you need to sleep." Inuyasha said.

"I just want to get a drink of water." Shippo said.

"Then get it and go to bed." Inuyasha said. Shippo nodded and ran off towards the kitchen. They could hear the faucet running and then heard him run back to his room when he was done drinking.

"Ano, you can let me go now." Kagome said.

"I don't want to." Inuyasha said tightening his hold.

"What do you mean you don't want to?" Kagome asked.

"I don't want to." Inuyasha said. He felt Kagome shiver. He knew it was from the cold because he hadn't done anything.

Sighing he sat up and sat Kagome down on the couch. He walked to his room and grabbed his blanket. He sat back on the couch and brought Kagome down with him. He moved them until they were in the position they were in earlier and pulled the blanket around them. "Better?" He asked.

Kagome nodded and hid her face. It was embarrassing to lay with him. He lifted her head and kissed her on the lips. "Quit being so embarrassed all the time." Inuyasha said.

Kagome laid her cheek on his chest again. She couldn't help being embarrassed. "Does this mean I'm staying here tonight?" Kagome asked.

"Yep. I'm way too comfortable to let either of us move." Inuyasha smiled. He wrapped his arms around her under the blanket. "Now go to sleep."

Kagome yawned and fell asleep. Inuyasha stayed awake a little while longer to watch her sleep. She was so beautiful. He kissed her on the forehead and went to sleep.

The next morning Kagome woke up to bright light. She opened her eyes to find it was the sun. That's when she noticed the barely noticeable movement below her. She lifted her head and saw amber.

The movement was his breathing. "Morning." Inuyasha said.

"Morning." Kagome blushed. "How long have you been awake?"

"About an hour." Inuyasha said.

"Why didn't you wake me?" Kagome asked.

"I didn't want to." Inuyasha said. Kagome tried to get up but was pushed back down. "What are you doing?"

"Getting up. I have to use the restroom." Kagome said.

"Oh." Inuyasha said. He let go and watched Kagome walk into the bathroom. He sat up on the couch.

Kagome came back out. "Where's Shippo?" Kagome asked.

"Myoga picked him up." Inuyasha said. "I called him and asked him to watch Shippo for a while. They went to see a movie I think."

"Oh." Kagome said. She sat down on the couch.

"Should I take you home now?" Inuyasha asked.

"Hai." Kagome said.

Inuyasha and Kagome got up. Inuyasha went to put the blanket in his room and change his clothes. That's when Kagome realized she forgot her bag. She'd also have to call her mom and tell her about leaving early although her grandpa probably already told her.

Inuyasha walked back out of the room. "Do you want to get some breakfast? Because I'm kind of hungry." Inuyasha said.

"Sure." Kagome said. They walked down into the elevator and then to Inuyasha's car. He started the engine and headed towards a restaurant.

After breakfast Inuyasha drove Kagome to her apartment. He kissed her and said he'd be by later. When she got to the door, she saw Hojo about to knock. "Hojo?" Kagome said.

"Ah, Higurashi." Hojo said. "I brought your suitcase. You left it at your house and I thought you might need it."

"Arigato." Kagome said taking the suitcase. "How did you find out where I lived?"

"Your mother told me." Hojo said.

"You came all the way over here to drop off my bag?" Kagome asked.

"Hai." Hojo said.

Kagome thought it was very nice. It probably took him a couple of hours to get it to her house. "Would you like to come in for a while?" Kagome asked.

"If that's all right with you." Hojo said.

"It is." Kagome said. She unlocked her door and let him in. "So, you own a shrine?"

"Hai, it's about a twenty minute drive from your shrine." Hojo said.

Kagome brought out some tea and sat down on the couch. "I never knew there was a shrine there."

"It was all broken down. I had it fixed up a couple of months ago." Hojo said.

About an hour later Hojo decided he had to go. "I have to go back to Osaka." Hojo said.

"Arigato for bringing my bag." Kagome said.

"Your welcome." Hojo said.

Kagome was about to open the door when someone knocked on it. She jumped not expecting someone to be there. She opened the door. Inuyasha stood there and he saw Hojo and looked pissed. What the hell was he doing there?

"Inuyasha." Kagome said.

"What the hell is he doing here?" Inuyasha asked.

"I was doing Higurashi a favor." Hojo said.

"Yeah, well you can leave now." Inuyasha said.

"Inuyasha!" Kagome shouted.

"Who is he?" Hojo asked.

"He is Inuyasha." Kagome said.

"Your boyfriend?" Hojo asked.

"Hai." Kagome said.

"I just want you to know that I won't give up on you." Hojo said.

"Huh?" Kagome said.

"Your grandfather arranged our engagement. I don't like the idea of arranged marriages, but I do like you. So I won't give up." Hojo said as he left.

"What the hell?" Inuyasha yelled.

Hope you like it. This chapter was a little longer than usual. Oh well. I'm not in trouble yay. I thought I would be but I'm not. I got in trouble for not attending school regularly. I wasn't skipping. I was sick. The school sent a letter to my dad about my absences and he got mad. He's madder at the school than at me right now. I'm off the hook for a little while. I know this isn't the right fics but most of those who read this fic have read my other ones. I've gotten a lot of requests for a sequel to Running From The Past. I'm not sure what to do for the sequel. I have an idea if I include the jewel but I'm not sure it will work too well. E-mail me and give me some ideas.
