Chapter 48

The Answer

The next morning Kagome woke up from the sun shining through the window. She threw her pillow at the window in hopes the sun would go away. It didn't work. Instead the pillow landed on Inuyasha's head.

"Hey." He mumbled angrily. He grabbed Kagome around the waist and brought her closer to him, still asleep.

Kagome sighed and ran her fingers through his hair. He wasn't kidding when he said he wasn't done with her. The whole night he'd had his `fun'. She was worn out by the time he was just getting started. After some puppy looks Inuyasha let her rest.

Here they were now. Inuyasha was sleeping in longer than her and she was more tired than he was. Well, if she couldn't sleep in then he wouldn't either. She pinched him and smiled in triumph when he jerked awake.

"What the fuck was that for?" Inuyasha yelled.

"If I can't sleep, then you can't either." Kagome rolled over, her back facing towards him.

Inuyasha smirked and threw an arm over her. He leaned up and whispered into her ear. "Mad about last night?" he licked the back of her ear.

Kagome shivered and Inuyasha smiled. Her ears were sensitive and he would use it to his advantage. "Shut up." Kagome shoved him away from her.

He laughed and pushed her so that she was lying flat on the bed. Leaning down he captured her lips in a gentle kiss. "Shall we pick up from where we left off last night?" Inuyasha asked in a husky voice.

Kagome opened her mouth to answer but quickly closed it when someone knocked on the door. "Fuck." Inuyasha said. He pulled on some boxers and threw open the door. He already knew who it was. "What the fuck do you want?"

"Jeez, what's wrong with you?" Shippo asked. Before Inuyasha could answer he ran into the room and sat on the bed.

Kagome pulled the covers over her breasts and sat up. "Did you need something Shippo?" She asked.

"Are you going to spend the day with Inuyasha?" He asked.

"She is." Inuyasha answered for her.

"Could you make some breakfast before you go? I'm hungry." Shippo's tummy rumbled.

"Of course." Kagome said.

"Arigato." Shippo said and ran out of the room.

"I almost forgot you were supposed to spend the day with me." Inuyasha smirked. "The runt will be at daycare for most of the day..."

Kagome was not looking forward to today. Thank Kami for birth control pills. If she weren't taking them millions of little Inuyasha's would probably be running around. Shaking her head of those thoughts she stood to get dressed.

Before she could look for something to wear Inuyasha pulled a shirt over her head. It was one of his and it went down to the middle of her thighs. "Just wear this. Getting fully dressed will be a waste of time for you." He whispered.

Rin waved goodbye to Sesshomaru as he left for work. Sango stayed at Miroku's place, so she invited Sesshomaru over. Now was the best chance to go to the store. Sesshomaru would be back soon for his break and lunch. She had promised to cook for him.

She quickly got dressed and put on her shoes. Walking out the door she headed to the store down the street. Once in, she quickly grabbed what she needed for lunch and herself. She paid for the items and headed back home.

After everything was put away she went to the bathroom. She took out the test and read the instructions. (Like I said before I have no idea how these things work so bear with me on the details here.)

Rin was scared of what the results would be. Sure she would be happy if she had a baby, but what would Sesshomaru's reaction be? He didn't exactly say he liked children, but he didn't say he hated them either.

Gathering her courage she looked at the test. Negative. She wasn't pregnant. She let out a breath she didn't even know she was holding. She couldn't help feel a little disappointed. It was better this way. Later she could find out Sesshomaru's thoughts on kids.

Miroku woke up the next morning and opened his eyes. Sango was resting her head on his chest. She was still asleep and he smiled at how peaceful she looked when she was asleep. Although he liked her peaceful look he loved how her eyes lit up when she was angry.

How was he supposed to tell her he loved her? What would she do? He could never read her. Should he take a chance today? He'd been so distracted last night that he almost missed an opportunity with Sango. This was going to eat at him until something about it was done.

He felt Sango stir and looked down at her. She yawned and opened her eyes looking at him. "Morning." She said sleepily.

"Morning." Miroku said.

"How long have you been up?" Sango asked.

"Not long."

"What's wrong?" Sango asked.

"Nothing, why?"

"You don't seem like yourself." Sango said.

"I don't?" Miroku asked. "I just have a lot on my mind."

"Oh." Sango said. She stood up and crawled over Miroku to get dressed. He followed and stood up to dress. "Remind me next time to bring more clothes."

Miroku chuckled and walked to the door. "Let's find something to eat." He said.

"Hai." Sango said and walked out of the room.

Looking around the kitchen they couldn't find anything but ramen. "I guess we're eating ramen." Miroku said.

"You should go grocery shopping." Sango said.

"I will sometime." Miroku said. He grabbed a pot, poured water in it and put it on the stove.

"Are you sure nothings wrong?" Sango asked.

"No, why?" Miroku asked.

"You seem...distant. You're not acting like yourself." Sango said.

"Oh. And how do I act?" Miroku asked.

"Usually you act perverted the moment I wake up." Sango said.

"Miss that this morning, did you?" He smirked.

"No, It's just not like you." Sango said.

"I've been thinking a lot lately." Miroku said.

"About what?" Sango asked.

"How to tell you something."

"What?" Sango asked a little scared of what he might say.

"I love you." Miroku said.

Rin answered the door and hugged Sesshomaru when he stepped inside. "Have fun at work?" She joked.

"Do I ever?" Sesshomaru said. "They're a bunch of idiots that can't get anything done without me."

Rin giggled and led him into the kitchen. "I made some rice and chicken." She said.

Sesshomaru nodded and walked into the bathroom to wash his hands. He noticed a box on the counter and was going to throw it away when he saw what was on it. A pregnancy test. Rin left it on the bathroom counter. He looked at the results and saw it was negative.

Acting as if he saw nothing he put everything back in its original place. He walked out of the bathroom and into the kitchen. He sat down in his seat and waited for Rin to join him. "I forgot to get the paper. I'll be right back." Rin said.

Sesshomaru watched her leave. The phone rang and he ignored it because it wasn't his house. The answering machine picked up and he could hear the message. "Rin this is Doctor Takinawa. The vacation was cut short so I thought I'd give you your results from the pregnancy test. Congratulations! You're pregnant. Call in later to make an appointment." The doctor said.

Sesshomaru's eyes went wide and he was speechless. Pregnant? Not knowing what to think he got up and left. He walked right past Rin and didn't answer any of her questions. "Where are you going? Sesshomaru?" Rin said.

He ignored her and got into his car. Rin was confused. Did something happen? She walked inside and put the paper on the counter. She noticed she had a message and played it. A look of shock was on her face. He heard the message and left.

Rin wrapped her arms around herself and sank to the floor crying.

Kagome sighed as she sank into the bathtub. The warm water was soothing her sore muscles. Inuyasha wouldn't let her rest at all. After last night and this morning she was surprised she could still walk. Her muscles were sore but it was well worth it.

After about a half an hour Inuyasha banged on the door. "Are you done yet?" He yelled.

"I'm getting out now." Kagome said. He always ruined her bath time. Its not like he hadn't already took a shower.

She dried off and put on her robe. Walking to her bedroom, she shut the door in hopes of missing Inuyasha. It didn't help that he already knew what she was planning. He was already in the room. She shrieked in surprise when he came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her.

"Took you long enough." Inuyasha said as he kissed her neck.

"I would've gotten out earlier if I wasn't so sore." Kagome said.

Inuyasha smirked in arrogance. "Its your fault." He said.

"How is it my fault?" Kagome asked.

"Because you look too damn good." Inuyasha said.

Kagome rolled her eyes at his lame excuse and moved from him to brush her hair. "You know you never told me if you were going to quit working or not." Inuyasha said.

"I...I want to work there." Kagome said. "I get to spend time with Sango and Rin."

"You can spend time with them at other times." Inuyasha said.

"No, I can't. They're schedules will be different. We haven't spent much time together since they we all got boyfriends." Kagome said.

"Now you're blaming it on us?" Inuyasha said referring to him, Miroku, and Sesshomaru.

"No, I'm just saying." Kagome said. "I like my job. I know your worried, but I can take care of myself."

"What about those times with what's his face?" Inuyasha said. "What if he comes around again?"

"I'm sure he won't." Kagome said knowing he was talking about Kouga.

"How do you know that for sure?" Inuyasha asked.

"I don't know." Kagome said.

"I don't like it when people touch you." Inuyasha said. "I'm the only one who can do that."

"It's not like I ask them to grope me! Do you think I enjoy it when other guys touch me?" Kagome asked.

"You're missing the point!" Inuyasha yelled.

"The only reason you want me to quit is because you're jealous!" Kagome said. "Why can't I work at a job I enjoy? If something happens then you'll be around. Sango and Rin will know."

Inuyasha forced himself to calm down. Arguing wasn't going to help. She was right. He was jealous. But still it could be dangerous if she worked there. He realized that she was just as stubborn as she was and she wasn't going to give up. "Fine, I'll drop the subject. But if something happens, I want you to tell me. Don't hide anything because you think I'll make you quit. I worry about you. I see how those perverts look at you, and it makes my blood boil."

Kagome's anger went away when he admitted that he was worried about her. She got up and walked over to him. "Nothing will happen to me. I'll be fine. If something happens, Sango and Rin will know." Kagome said. "We're always watching out for each other."

Inuyasha felt a little better now. He leaned down to kiss her but was interrupted when the phone rang. He was going to ignore it but Kagome left the room to answer. He sighed and followed after her and sat down on the couch to wait for her to get done.

"Hello." Kagome said.

"Kagome?"

"Hai." Kagome said. "Rin, are you crying?"

"Sesshomaru left me."
