Chapter 2.
Loss and Gain
Though InuYasha was not too thrilled to go to school because the kids made fun of him, the only reason he would stayed was because of Kagome. They would spend most of recess at the tree away from the others, climbing and just enjoying each other's company. Then he would go home and tell his mom all about it, it pleased her so much that he had found a friend. Since his father died she was worried that he would not have anyone but her, and his half brother would have nothing to do with him. Just hearing him so excited, explaining about Kagome and their time together made her more at ease. There was one thing that was still worrying her about what they left at home, but she would just shake it out of her mind and just spend time with her son.
One day as they spend time at the tree, Hojo walked to them looking annoyed.

“Kagome!” he yelled.

“What do you want?” she asked.

“Why are you with that freak?” he asked pointing to InuYasha who drooped his ears down. Kagome came out of the tree and punched his arm.

“Ow! Why did you do that for?” he asked rubbing his arm.

“Do not call InuYasha a freak! He's much nicer and sweet then you'll ever be now shoo!” she yelled at him while waving her arms. Hojo huffed looking up at InuYasha and walked off. Kagome sighed as she got up on the tree again. InuYasha looked at Hojo walking off then walked to the branch that Kagome was sitting on.

“Kagome?”

“Yes InuYasha?” she asked looking at him.

“Is…is Hojo your boyfriend?” he asked with droopy ears. Kagome looked at him in shock.

“No! EW! He's a butthead I don't like him like that,” she said. His ears perked up trying not to look too excited. He was about to say something when the bell rang for them to come inside. As they walked Kagome took hold of her tiny clawed hand. InuYasha saw this and blushed, but held hers as they walked back hand in hand, getting strange looks from the other kids. InuYasha was about to walk home when Kagome stopped him giving him a piece of paper.

“It's my mail address, whenever you wanna hang out here's where you need to go,” she explained. InuYasha nodded and smiled as they waved and he ran back home.

“Mom! Mom you won't believe…” he began but stopped seeing his mother laying on the floor.

“Mama?” he asked softly, walking up to face her and gasped seeing her holding onto her stomach in blood.

“Mama!” he yelled kneeling to her side. She coughed opening her eyes slowly.

“In…InuYasha,”

“Please mama, please don't go,” he pleaded.

“InuYasha…please, run, run and don't look back. It's his minions…please just…go.”

“Mama…” he choked in his tears trying to save her.

“I love you InuYasha…I'll…always be…here,” she said touching his heart. “In your heart.”

“Mama…mama please!” he pleaded as he saw her close her eyes and let out her last sigh. “Mama!”

He packed all he could after her body went to dust and floated into the night sky. He sniffled the whole time wiping the tears with his sleeve and walked out with a piece of paper in his hand. Kagome was sleeping when she heard a tapping at her window. She got up slowly seeing InuYasha there. She ran to the window and opened it shocked to see him there.

“What are you doing here?” she asked.

“Mom's dead,” he said. She gasped on verge of tears.

“InuYasha I'm so sorry! Please come inside,” she offered but he shook his head.

“I can't, I have to be gone for a couple of days, maybe a year or more.” Kagome looked at him when he smiled and took her hand. “I won't forget you, I'll always visit when you least expect it. I won't be gone long.”

“Promise?” she asked, he nodded taking something out of his backpack and giving it to her. She studied it seeing it was a hair clip.

“Mom use to wear it, it's yours now,” he said.

“I'll cherish it,” she said looking up at him and he smiled which faded.

“Bye Kagome,” he said before hopping on a tree and disappeared from her house and her life forever, or what seemed to be for her.
