Chapter 2: Home Not-So-Sweet Home

Kagome stared in disbelief at what she had just heard. `"Mine?!" What the hell is Inuyasha talking about?' Kagome thought to herself. Well, at least her mind was still working as she stared up into the blood red eyes of the full demon. He watched her and smiled broader. She began to tremble at the horrifying sight.

"Get away from her, Inuyasha!" Sango's voice screamed out as the demon looked up. His sight was met with a sudden rock slamming into his head and bouncing off, doing no harm. Sango knew it was a stupid thing to do, but she was not going to see her friend get ripped to shreds. She was surprised when she heard Miroku's voice next to her.

"Yeah! Take on someone your own size!" He taunted, holding up his staff.

"Miroku…" Sango's voice trailed off. A sudden growling made her turn back to demon-Inuyasha as he let go of Kagome's shirt (now with fresh holes from his elongated claws) and step over her toward the two distractions. He narrowed his eyes and growled at the invaders. His low voice growled that one word he seemed able to speak.

"Mine…"

Kagome saw her chance to run when Inuyasha took another two menacing steps closer to the scared exterminator and monk. She flipped herself over and jumped to her feet. She tore off towards her bike and bag for no reason. That was just the direction she was in when she turned over.

Inuyasha heard a slight rustle of clothes behind him and he whipped his head around to see the girl running away from him. What the hell was she doing?! He was only protecting her! He growled a low commanding growl at her, but she did not stop. She didn't even look back. But Inuyasha could smell her scent spike as her fear increased and he heard her heart beat speed up. `She does not need to be afraid of me… but she does need to learn to listen to her mate. She needs to understand that I am the dominant one!' He thought angrily.

Kagome rushed after the bag and bike. She was almost there… almost… almost! Yes! She wrapped her hand around the strap of the large yellow bag. Somehow it gave her a wave of self-confidence as she grabbed it up into both her hands. But as soon as she did, she felt two strong claws wrap around her waist and pull her backwards. She looked back to see demon-Inuyasha tuck her small form under his arm and growl loudly at Sango and Miroku. He suddenly ran after them, his red eyes glowing. Sango and Miroku tensed, but as soon as they thought they would have to attack their friend, he easily bounded over them and onto the top of a tree. He leaped off as soon as he touched the tree and began bounding away towards the mountain.

"Come on, we have to follow them!" Sango shouted, bounding after the two on foot.

"Right!" Miroku agreed, chasing after her, his perverted image instantly washed away in seriousness. Shippo nodded his head and ran quickly toward a glowing pink sparkle on the ground. He couldn't leave a shard of the jewel out there, just like that. Picking it up and placing it in his shirt pocket, he soon followed, giving one sad look back at Kagome's abandoned bike. He liked riding in it with Kagome. But now he wasn't sure if he'd ever be able to do that again. He really hoped Inuyasha wasn't in the mood to kill the girl they both liked.

Demon-Inuyasha had made it to the edge of the mountain, and ran up bounded up the side of the steep face. He needed a place to keep Kagome. She didn't know what she was doing, running away from him. But she needed to learn her place and he needed somewhere to teach her. He had sniffed out an abandoned cave high up in the mountain face. The cave used to be inhabited by a youkai, but the youkai had died long ago and now it was abandoned. It was perfect.

He jumped up higher and finally found it. It had a small path that lead down the mountain that the girl could use if she needed to, but she would have trouble getting up or down. He smirked happily. She'd need his help. And that meant she couldn't get away even if she tried.

Inuyasha jumped to the edge of the cave with Kagome screaming in his arms. She was flailing miserably and trying to get loose, but she was trying in vain. No attempts she made would ever make Inuyasha's strong claws released her. Yet unknown to her, Inuyasha was sniffing the inside of the cave. He turned his face into a sneer and growled. The place still stank of that damned youkai! He couldn't have his bitch stay in a place that didn't smell like him! He walked inside the cave and dropped Kagome to the ground. She cried out in small pain, but he wasn't worried. She had landed on the yellow thing anyway. He walked over to the wall of the cave and began rubbing the walls and floor with his hands and feet. Kagome stared at him.

`What is he doing?' She thought to herself. Inuyasha rubbed down the walls and floor for a good five minutes when Kagome thought of trying to get away. She slowly stood up and walked backward to the edge of the cave. Inuyasha still hadn't looked up from his work. She backed up until she saw she was at the entrance to the cave. She turned and began to run down the path. She heard a soft chuckle behind her, and suddenly Inuyasha was standing in front of her, growling, but smiling at her with a large smile. So he had only been playing with her the entire time! He nipped at her face and she jumped back in surprise. She didn't expect that! He nipped at her again and she backed up further. He played this game with her until she tripped over her yellow bag and landed on her right arm. A scrape appeared from hitting a rock and a small trickle of blood began to seep out.

"Ow!" She cried, holding her arm. Inuyasha came over knelt down beside her. Kagome looked up at him in fear and he could hear her heartbeat increase and smell her fear rise. He took her arm as she tried to scoot away and gently lapped at the blood with his tongue. Kagome turned a bright red, but she was still very fearful. Usually when Inuyasha tasted blood he would go on a killing spree. But all he did was lap at her arm until it stopped bleeding. The cut had even begun to heal from the healing solution in Inuyasha's saliva. Kagome froze in disbelief and stared at her arm. Demon Inuyasha had actually healed her! Inuyasha snickered at the look on his bitch's face and got up to work on the next other wall of the cave.

Kagome was too afraid to try and run away again. That, and too confused. She watched Inuyasha at his work and looked up at him when he stopped and walked over to her. He suddenly growled in a harsh tone and gave her a dark look. He ran his claw over her arm lightly, a clean cut appeared, and a trickle of blood dripped out. This time he didn't heal her. She needed to know her place. Kagome whimpered in pain and tried to crawl away but Inuyasha held her close and growled into her face. His eyes were glowing a deep red. Her fear skyrocketed and Inuyasha got up. He saw her punishment as enough now.

Inuyasha walked over to the entrance of the cave and turned the corner on the right. Kagome heard a light scratching at the ground, and waited patiently (frozen by fear) for him to stop and come back. A sudden screeching burst sound out, screaming into Kagome's ear drums, making her cry out in pain and cover her ears. Inuyasha stopped the screeching of his claws upon the rock to poke his head around the corner and figure out where that cry came from. He saw Kagome wedged up to her backpack and a large boulder, covering her ears and shuddering. He smirked, knowing that this was more than enough punishment for his bitch, but at least she would know her place. Besides, he had to mark to other demons that this cave was now his.

Inuyasha walked to the other side of the cave and retained the same procedure. Kagome cried out in pain once again, and was wondering why Inuyasha's hearing wasn't affected. Her question was soon answered as Demon-Inuyasha came back into the cave, smirking. His ears were plastered so tightly to his head that they appeared to be gone and had been hidden underneath his hair. They appeared again as he walked closer to the cowering girl, her ears ringing from the wildly high-pitched sound.

Inuyasha neared the girl and she cowered again, her scent rising up in spicy-hot scent that made Inuyasha shudder from his demon instincts of feeling pleasure from that smell. He could also smell something else, but she wasn't showing it in her figure. Exhaustion. She was still very fatigued from riding that bike all that way, and she has struggled to get free of him before, and after all of her attempts to escape, he wasn't surprised to see she was so tired. But he was glad that she continued to try and hide it. That showed strength within his bitch, and he respected her for that. He kneeled next to her trembling form and gently stroked her hair away from her face.

"Do not… do not be afraid of me." He whispered in his extremely low demon voice.

Kagome looked up. He had… spoken to her? She was afraid of all of his silence, yet hearing his voice was even more frightening. She stared deeply into his eyes, trying to read his thoughts, yet she could not get anything out of them. The deep blood red was clouded over to show no emotion. She continued to stare until he did something unexpected.

He picked her up and walked over to a place that looked as though it had been used as a bed. The straw was matted down, covered over with soft, dry grass and leaves, and another layer of straw. He walked over to it, and was going to lay her down upon it and command her to rest, but he bent down first and sniffed. Of course it smelled like the long-dead youkai of the cave. He growled and set her down beside it. Kagome just stared in wonder at him.

He sat down on the mat and sniffed at it again. After a moments consideration, leaned so he lie flat on his back. Kagome stared at him with curiosity at what would happen next. He actually started rolling around in the hay! Kagome stared wide-eyed at the sight before her, and before she could control it, she burst out laughing. You had to admit, it was quite a sight to see a full-fledged demon rolling around in straw. She clutched the side of her stomach and laughed. Inuyasha had stopped his rolling to peer at his bitch, nearly crying from laughing so hard. He smirked as an idea popped into his brain. He slowly and silently crawled to Kagome, and in her laughing state, she didn't notice at all. He suddenly lashed out and grabbed her with him as he rolled around in the straw once again, the girl squeaking out from surprise. They rolled until Inuyasha was satisfied with the scent that was now embedded within the bed. Inuyasha now sat up, leaning against the boulder with Kagome pressed against his chest, his arm wrapped possessively around her waist. Her scent of fear had now vanished, and was replaced with the sweet bold scent of contentment.

"You're… You're the same… aren't you… Inuyasha? You haven't changed… even though you're demon now…" Kagome barely whispered, but Inuyasha's perked ears caught every word. They somewhat angered him, and he was about to growl when she began to whisper again. "But… he… and you… love Kikyo… or you just love me because I look like her." This enraged him. How dare she accuse him of betrayal and living with another! It was true, he did remember Kikyo, but she had become faded and he no longer desired her. Even for being a very strong priestess, she does not deserve to live upon the earth again after her death. No being truly deserves that chance and power. And her now rotting clay form disgusted him and he could not believe his bitch doubted him. He desperately wanted to show her how devoted he was to her, and finally claim her eternally as his, but he wanted to do that when he knew pups would develop from the act. And Kagome was not in heat now, so he would have to wait. But while he wanted to show her his loyalty to her, he did not want to force himself upon her. For some reason unknown to him, his body did not allow him to do that. It was some sort of reaction in his brain that stopped him from committing the action. Inuyasha growled from anger and shoved Kagome away from him as he stood up.

"Get some rest. I can smell your exhaustion from here. I will return shortly. And if I come and find you gone… there will be consequences." He commanded; his voice full of authority. He turned on his heel and strode away from the boulder and out the entrance of the cave. Kagome just sat there, dumbfounded by his odd actions. Ok, first he acts like he might kill her for doing one thing wrong, then he acts like he loves her, and now he's acting like he hates her! She was extremely confused, but that made her head hurt more from being fatigued. Kagome decided that Inuyasha was right and she needed to rest.

Kagome crawled over to her pack and slid out her sleeping bag. The straw and the grass may have been somewhat soft, but if she placed her sleeping bag as even more cushion, it would almost be like a bed. She placed the sleeping bag in place and lay down upon it. It was surprisingly soft, even though it was just covering grass and straw and rock. She guessed it was the fatigue because she instantly noticed how tired she was. Closing her eyes, she fell into a deep doze at once.

Unknown to her, two deep red eyes lightened and a smile played at the lips of their beholder, acting from contentment at seeing his bitch act obediently.

Sango, Miroku, Kirara and Shippo had been running for about an hour now, but to no avail. Inuyasha had just been too fast in his demon form to catch up to. They had to stop to rest and give up. Kirara was resting in Sango's arms as the party walked slowly on. Shippo was up ahead with Miroku, riding on his shoulder. The group walked in silence, dreading the worst. Finally Miroku stopped and dug a small hole in the ground with his staff.

"We must camp soon Sango, Shippo." He said, looking at the hole.

"But, where will we find shelter? What if it is to rain tonight?" Sango asked, walking up to him and peering at him in his unusual behavior. He looked up at her with solemn eyes.

"There is a village at the base of the mountain, amidst the foothills. We could stay there, but I do not know if we are just searching for something non-existent." Miroku finished softly, his voice full of sorrow. Sango gasped at his words.

"Houshi! How dare you think like that! I do not think Inuyasha would kill Kagome ruthlessly like that! You yourself have said before that he has had feelings for her!" Sango cried out, hugging Kirara closer.

"But we do not know if those feelings have gone over to his demon side. Remember this Sango; Inuyasha is half human and half demon. Just because he has feelings for someone from his human state does not mean he feels the same way when he is controlled by his demon form. The mentality of each form is very different." The monk explained sincerely. Sango was surprised by his words. He seemed so… deep about this. `I wonder why?' Sango asked herself in her head. In truth she just wanted to go up to him and feel his embrace around her, but she had to refrain herself from the act. He would never see her the way she saw him. She wanted so badly to be the only woman he desired; the only woman he loved. But she felt that that would never happen, for Miroku could never set his sights on one woman, could he?

Shippo and Kirara were staring wide-eyed at the two. They understood that Kagome could already be dead, but why was Miroku acting so weird about it, and Sango reacting to it so oddly?

A silence passed between the group.

"I know that Houshi. But we can't give up hope. This is Kagome we're talking about! And Inuyasha! Kagome won't give up without a fight and I believe in my heart that Inuyasha would not hurt Kagome. No matter what!" Sango suddenly spoke up, breaking the silence. She stormed the way towards the village in a hurting fury, trying to make herself believe that was she had just said the surprised monk. But the possibility of Demon-Inuyasha murdering her friend kept popping up. But she couldn't think like that! She couldn't give up hope! She would not lose faith in her friend like she did in her family. She turned back to see the monk still looking at the hole he made, obviously in deep thought. She stopped and waited for him, taking in his hansom features, but his face turned into the expression of deep thoughts, non-perverted, and his profile and turned him into a beautiful god. Sango stared in marvel at him, wondering what thoughts could have made him change his appearance so dramatically.

Miroku, meanwhile in deep thought, was thinking at the situation at hand. He hoped with all of his heart that what he had said had not happened. He had seen this happen many times before he was traveling with Inuyasha and everyone else. It was odd how it touched his heart, but he thought it was because that now that he knew a hanyou very well, the thought of killing its loved one without a say was horrible, even after its regular extent. He looked up to Sango, after realizing and feeling her gaze upon him. He began to walk once again, with a Shippo on his shoulder who had fallen asleep from all the boredom going around in his head.

`Ah, to be young and careless.' Miroku thought.

"Come on Houshi, we should get going." Sango said softly starting off with the sleeping Kirara in her arms.

"Yes Sango." Miroku replied sadly. She still refused to call him by his real name.

Demon-Inuyasha was speeding through the forest, looking for a suitable meal for his woman safely tucked away in the cave. He wanted to catch the meal quickly to get back to the girl that drugged his thoughts. He had the desire just to be near her, and he knew it was the beginning of a feeling towards a mate. He personally enjoyed the feeling, but he knew he would enjoy it further if the one he wanted experienced the same feeling as he.

Inuyasha ran on until he caught a scent upwind. He froze instantly recognizing the scent. The demon growled almost silently and carefully stalked off. He caught another scent - that of a deer - and with almost no sound ran off to the unsuspecting prey, but always careful to be downwind of the hateful scent he caught.

He found and killed the deer relatively easily, skinned it and left the remains for coyotes or wolves that were nearby. He jumped up; still bloodied from his kill, for he could smell the scent he was avoiding come closer. Luckily, the one hadn't smelled him yet, but soon would if he stayed any longer in the vicinity. He ran headlong toward the cave with the meat slapping against his back, the blood seeping into his shirt, (A/N: I don't know anything about traditional Japanese clothing… eheh… so please don't yell at me for not knowing them! Shame what they don't teach you in school…oy…) still trying to get away from the scent. Thankfully, the scent turned towards a water source off to the right and Inuyasha stopped and looked in the direction it was headed. He puzzled why the demon was in the area, since it had its own water sources it could use. But for whatever reason why it was here, it was no good to Inuyasha. Inuyasha narrowed his red eyes.

"Sesshoumaru." He growled, spitting onto the ground at the thought of his half brother. He ran off still growling.

A/N: Ok, so there are few things I want to clarify before you guys start reading again. I don't want anyone to be offended or anything by what I write. When Inuyasha refers to Kagome as `his bitch' he meaning that as `his woman.' Being a dog-demon, being called a `bitch' (meaning female dog) is as though you are being called a `girlfriend' or `wife.' Please don't think that this is a patriarchal (being ruled by men; woman are lower) fanfiction. Also, since I haven't really seen much of Demon-Inuyasha on the anime (yes, I am a deprived person) and he may seem a little OOC. I get a lot of information from a friend of mine, so I don't really know everything that people who regularly watch the show know. But I hope you like my fanfic anyway! ^_^
