“Take care of it Sango, Miroku.” Inuyasha called out to them, still staring Kin down.
“All ready on it Inuyasha.” Sango said as she took off her kimono to reveal her slayer outfit then threw Hirikotsu at one of the youkai advancing on them. There were ten humanoid youkai in chain mail bearing a yellow circle insignia. The youkai had come in response to the roar of their lord's shout. Upon seeing the humans they assumed that they were the cause and set about getting rid of them, or tried to at least. A transformed Kirara leapt and proceeded to knock a few around. Meanwhile Hirikotsu caught the one who dodged it the first time by on its way back. Sango grabbed it and intercepted a downward swing from a sword that threatened to decapitate Miroku. Miroku had thrown sutras to immobilize some opponents and was now fending off another with his staff.
While those three were dealing with the ten that had been seen two more were sneaking up on Kagome and the kids, one from each side. The three of them were so intent on the battle in front of them they did not notice until the wind shifted and Shippo got a whiff of one, he yelped, getting Kagome's attention. Kagome threw up a barrier just in time.
“Enough!” Bellowed Kiyoshi. “These people have done nothing wrong and are here because Lord Sesshomaru whishes it.” His deceptively mellow voice carried to all as weapons were lowered.
“Lord Kiyoshi we heard our Lord shout.”
“He did. It is being taken care of. Now back to the barracks with you.” Kiyoshi waited until the guards had left before turning to the group gathered at the spot where Kagome had made her stand.
“I had my doubts as to whether your pack really had done some of the deeds attributed to you.” Sango bristled at the statement but Miroku put a hand on her arm before she interrupted. “But now I do not find it so hard to believe. Come in.”
They all filed in to find Inuyasha still in Kin's face. At there arrival Kin couldn't help it; he looked up and snarled,
“What are you doing in here worthless humans?” He said it with contempt, though his eyes were drawn to the two women. This did not go unnoticed. Sango and Kagome glared, Miroku moved closer to the slayer and Inuyasha hand shot out to grab the youkai's collar. He pulled Kin close and said in a voice full of deadly menace and so quiet that no one else could hear.
“This Inuyasha would advise against thinking about, much less looking at or touching those bitches. Sango would carve you up. Miroku would beat you to a pulp because of the slayer. And as for the Miko I can assure you you'd whish to be dead long before I gave you that sweet release.”
In what might have been an attempt to diffuse the tension after Inuyasha let Kin go Kiyoshi bowed to both the brothers before speaking formally,
“I, Lord Kiyoshi, accept the second son of the old Lord, brother of the current Lord, Inuyasha as the wandering Lord and second in command of the West.” He turned to Inuyasha, “Your Father's blood runs strong in you like your brother. Might I ask what this transformation is about?”
“If I may?” Miroku queried looking at Inuyasha knowing he doesn't like to talk much, especially about himself. Inuyasha nodded so he continued.
“Inuyasha's demon blood is very strong, as you said Lord Kiyoshi, so strong in fact that it sometimes can over ride his human blood.”
Akiyama absorbed all this and nodded to himself before he to bowed and acknowledged Inuyasha. After this everyone looked to Kin.
“I cannot acknowledge you unless you prove your worth and the worth of your pack. If they even are your pack.”
Kagome got upset at the way he was speaking to Inuyasha and went right up to him.
“And why wouldn't we be? You want proof?” She thrust her palm with the pack mark in front of his face. “And another thing, Inuyasha's stronger than you and you'll have to acknowledge when he proves it.” The visiting lords were tiered of being surprised with this rag-tag group but couldn't help feeling a little admiration for this little bit of a human woman who stood up to a demon lord with no fear.
Sesshomaru ignored the out burst,
“So be it. Tomorrow we shall test the new pack to judge their worth.

After the confrontation in the study Inuyasha and company were lead to their quarters to rest and get ready for dinner. Their suite consisted of a main sitting room that had a door in each wall, two of which lead to bedrooms. Kagome and Sango claimed the one on the right. It had a view of a garden, a few tapestries, the furnishings were done in light woods and the fabrics were various shades of purple.
“Who wants to wash up first?” The rest gave Inuyasha a weird look so he huffed and continued gruffly, “That middle door goes to a bathing room. We have to clean up and change before dinner.” He turned and went to inspect the other bedroom.
“Why don't you ladies go first.” Miroku suggested.
“That sound s like a good idea. And No Peeking.” Sango growled the last partout while glaring at the monk, whose hand was inching its way to its favourite spot. She the turned to the giggling Kagome, “What should we change into?”
“There are kimonos in the wardrobe behind you.” Sesshomaru enjoyed the way the humans jumped when he surprised them. “But first this Sesshomaru whishes to see your Pack Mark.” Inuyasha, who had come in behind his brother, nodded and they all stick out their hand. The Mark was a circle divided neatly into quarters, one red, one purple, one pink and one magenta. Sesshomaru raised his eyebrow but offered no further comment.
“What about me?”
“What about you Shippo?” Kagome asked. He held out his other hand while sitting on his mother's shoulder so everyone could see. On one was the Pack Mark and on the other was the pink quarter surrounded by blue fire.
“You adopted the kitsune?” Sesshomaru asked Kagome.
“Yes I did.” She replied proudly back.
“Very well. Get ready for dinner.” Sesshomaru commanded as he swept from the rooms.
