Chapter 1
The Beginning
Kagome and Inuyasha walked through the forest to Kaedes' Village. They were both silent as they walked. Kagome listened to the birds and was happy. She loved the past, it was so much more quite. Inuyasha walked a little ahead of Kagome in a hurry to get back to searching for the rest of the jewel. He still didn't know if he was going to become a full demon or human. Both he and Kagome had hidden their feelings for each other from the moment they locked eyes for the first time.
As they neared the village they heard Sango yelling at Miroku. This didn't surprise them in the least. As they came into the village Shippo could be seen dashing for Kagome and Inuyasha. He wasn't the small little boy he was when they first meet. Now he was a rather handsome young man. Even though he was only 10, he acted 15. As Shippo reached Kagome and Inuyasha he wrapped his arms around Kagomes waist and hugged her.
“Kagome!”
Cried a very happy Shippo
“I missed you! Why were you gone so long!?”
Shippo stepped back and walked with Kagome and Inuyasha rest of the way to
Kaedes' Hut. On the way they said hello to some villagers. Most said hello back or
Waved. But one said to another,
“What an odd family...”
Inuyasha heard this and growled at them. They quickly shut their mouths and
Went back to work. Kagome didn't seem to notice.
When they reached the hut Miroku sat outside with a bright red hand print on his
cheek. Sango was inside making lunch for them. When she turned to see kagome she
Squealed and hugged her friend. After a moment Sango stepped back and said.
“Sit, let's have some lunch! And we can talk some. Tell us why it took so long for you to come back.”
Kagome sat and they stared eating fish, Miroku came in and sat a little ways away from Sango. As they ate Kagome explained.
“I know it has been a month since I was last here! I'm sorry too, I had to take exams, and then my class went to the United States for a trip. The United States is across the ocean, and everything is so differnt! It was amazing! I even have gifts for you all!”
Kagome then dived into her huge yellow backpack. She pulled out brightly wrapped boxes for each of her friends. First she handed Inuyasha his and he was quick to rip the paper off. He opened the box and pulled out a small dagger. As he looked at it closer he saw that it had the head of a dog on the hilt. On the sheath was an etching of flames. On the blade was `From, Kagome to my beloved Inuyasha'. At this Inuyasha blinked. Then he looked up at Kagome with a questioning look but it was too late. Kagome had given Sango her box.
Sango carefully unwrapped the box and pulled out her dagger. On the hilt there was a flower. On the Sheath there was a beautiful pattern of flowers. When Sango pulled the dagger from its Sheath she read the inscription `From, Kagome to my beloved Friend, Sango.' Sango gasp and hugged Kagome.
Next Kagome handed Miroku his gift. He also ripped the paper off to reveal his dagger; it had Monk Symbols on the Hilt and on the sheath. On the blade he read `From kagome to my good friend Miroku'. At this he grinned and thanked her.
Then Kagome handed Shippo his box. He slowly unwrapped the box and pulled out his dagger. On the Hilt there was a fox head. On the Sheath there were Flames much like Inuyasha only they were stained blue like his own fox fire. On the blade itself it said `From Kagome to my dearest Shippo.' At reading this a tear slid down his cheek and he hugged Kagome.
Kagome whispered softly in his ear“You're like a son to me Shippo.”
Shippo wiped his eyes and thanked her too. Then Kagome turned to Kirara and held out a bag. Kirara pulls the bag open and pulls out a collar. She trots over to Sango and she puts it on. It is a pretty pink with flecks of red.
Kagome says “Kirara go and transform see what the collar does.”
Kirara does this and to every ones astonishment it stayed in place. The fire neko looked at the collar best she could then looked at her reflection in the river. It had stayed the exact same, nothing changed, and it was big enough to still fit.
Kagome explained, “I got it from a gypsy, it will protect you, at least a little anyway, sort of like a barrier. I'm so glad it fits!”
After all gifts were handed out they sat and finished eating lunch.
When everyone had finished Sango and Kagome cleaned up will Inuyasha, Shippo and Miroku worked on getting everything set up for them to start traveling again. When everything was done they set off then when they had reached the forest.
Kagome gasped “Oh! I forgot something!”
Quickly Kagome dashed back to the well and back to her own time. When she came back she was holding a new bow and a katana. When she returned Kagome Explained that she had gotten them in the states, they then went on their way in search for the shards of the jewel.
Later that evening it was dusk and Kagome suggested that they make camp soon. Inuyasha went ahead to find a suitable place. When he found one he came back to the group and said,
“There is a good spot not far from here, there is also a hot spring near by.''
With that the group hurried to the camping sight. When they arrived Inuyasha went and collected wood for the fire while Kagome and Sango started getting the camp set up. Shippo and Miroku went to catch fish for dinner. Inuyasha came back with an armful of wood that would last all night. Shippo and Miroku came back with enough fish for everyone to have two. Kagome and Sango had set out bed rolls for everyone.
Even though Shippo was now ten years old he still liked to be around Kagome when he slept so he was set up near her but he didn't share the same sleeping bag as her like he had when he was younger. After one of her visits home Kagome and brought back waterproof foam bed rolls and water proof sleeping bags. Everyone had gotten one but Inuyasha would not use the bed roll, only the blanket.
When they had finished eating the sun was just setting. Kagome gathered her bathing things and headed for the springs, and then she called back to Sango,
“Would you care to join me Sango?”
Sango replied “Yes. Wait a moment?”
Miroku jumped up and said “May I join you ladies!?!”
This earned him a growl from Inuyasha and a hard slap from Sango as she and Kagome left for the springs Shippo laughed at Miroku as he pulled his bedding away from the ladies and closer to the tree that Inuyasha had perched himself in. soon he had fallen asleep. Shippo sat by the fire and waited for the ladies to come back so he could bath.
When Kagome and Sango arrived at the hot springs they quickly shed their cloths and slid into the warm water. As they cleaned themselves the spoke softly to one another.
Kagome asked “so did any thing interesting happen while I was gone?”
Sango answered, “Actually yes! Miroku has not asked a single girl to bear is child! Well he wont stop asking me now, but I think I can handle that.” At that Sango blushed.
Kagome looked at her friend and her jaw dropped, “Are you saying what I think that your saying?!” she exclaimed.
Sango blushed more and nodded. Kagome then asked, “How long have you felt for him?”
Sango replied, “Not long, a year maybe, year and a half at most.” While still blushing.
Kagome giggled and said to her friend, “So have you told him yet?”
Sango shook her head no
Kagome splashed Sango and said “well then, you will just have to tell him that, when your ready of course!”
Sango slashed back. They finished washing and climbed from the hot spring. They dressed then went back to camp to find the rest of the group asleep. Inuyasha was perched in his tree, Miroku was asleep not far from it, and Shippo was curled up next to Kagomes bed. They quickly and quietly climbed into their sleeping bags. Kagome was in the middle with Sango to her right and Shippo to her left. Shortly before falling asleep Kagome heard a sound but thought it to simply be the wind.
Unknown to the now sleeping travelers a pair of violet eyes watched them.
When everyone woke the next morning they had fish again thanks to Shippo. After eating they went on their way in search of the shards. Kagome was oddly silent however. Sango noticed this and asked
“Kagome? What is wrong?” Sango put her arm around Kagomes shoulder and looked at her.
“Oh, Nothings wrong, I just remembered that my 20th birthday is in a few days.”
Inuyasha stopped at this and turned around to look at Kagome, “What do you mean that your birthday is coming up!? You never said anything! Neither did your mom or Sota!”
Kagome looked at Inuyasha with said eyes and shrugged, “I guess they forgot just like I did. Oh well.”
Inuyasha growled and said “Its not oh well, the rest of you go back to Kaedes Village. I'm going to go take care of a few things. Stays at the village, Kagome go home on your birthday, and then come back when you're ready. I will be gone for a little while but don't worry.
With that Inuyasha was gone in a flash of red. Kagome looked at her friends and they turned around and started back to the village. Kagome was still a little sad because her mom had never forgotten her birthday and had always asked that she come home on that day. But she didn't yesterday. This confused and saddened Kagome.
Shippo did his best to make her feel better but it was no good. Their trip back to the village was uneventful
Inuyasha rushed to Toto-sais' work shop as he ran he pulled out two of his fangs. When Inuyasha reached the work shop he found the old man. Sitting infront of him Inuyasha said, “Toto-sai, I need you to make me a sword and a bow. Got it! I need these done in five days.”
Toto-sai saw that Inuyasha was desperate so he agreed. After the old man agreed to make the weapons Inuyasha dashed off and cut the old man wood. He cut down four trees and chopped them up into fire wood. Then he filled the old mans tub with water.
After finishing these tasks Inuyasha was gone in a flash. Next he went to a demonic cloths maker. From the old spider demon he asked for a complete outfit like his own. He gave the woman a set of Kagomes cloths so she could make the right fit. The old demon owed him a favor so she did this for free.
Next he went to a village. Here he got special salts and other things he felt that Kagome would like. By the end of the first day he had everything set up. He had big plans for Kagome when she came back from her time.
Back at Kaedes Village it was dark by the time Kagome and the rest of the group got to the village. Kaede was out praying somewhere. For a long time they sat in silence. Sango asked Kagome,
“So are you going to go back to your time on your birthday like Inuyasha told you to?”
Kagome replied, “I might as well, now that I have more room in my backpack I guess I can go back and get more ramen and some sweets. It's almost winter so I might get some warmer sleeping bags. I don't know.”
That night Kagome was unable to sleep. She thought that there was someone outside the hut because she was hearing things. But when she got up to see no one was there.
Unknown to her a pair of violet eyes continued to watch her.
