Chapter 1

Surprise

The squeak of the hinges of the door signaled that Souta was about to risk his life. He was doing the unthinkable. He was going to wake up his sleeping sister.

He crawled along the floor as if he was in a spy movie, and the slightest noise would wake up the terrifying monster that was deeply submerged in the blankets. He slunk to the foot of the bed and peered over the mass of covers. Still sleeping.

He ducked back down and slowly approached the head of the bed. From behind his back he pulled out his tiny, yet loud horn. He quickly scanned the room for sharp objects and made sure that his escape route was clear. He put one hand on the horn, and the other on the curtain string. He got ready to run, and before you knew it, Souta did it. He opened the curtains and blew the horn making it as loud as possible. Kagome flew up and hit the ceiling. She dropped on the other side of the bed and slowly got up with a murderous look in her eyes. Souta ran for it. She smiled evilly as she charged after him like a raging bull.

"SOUTA! YOU ARE ONE DEAD LITTLE BOY!" Kagome yelled.

From downstairs her grandpa jumped at the shriek.

"WE'RE UNDER ATTACK! I knew this was coming...you didn't believe me!" He was about to stand up when his daughter put a hand on his shoulder.

"Don't worry dad, its just Kagome waking up." Kagome's mom just smiled and waited for Souta to come running for protection. Soon enough he came bolting through the door.

"I knew I should've worn more protection." He said with wide eyes.

Kagome's footsteps got closer as Souta trembled behind his mom.

When she appeared at the door she looked like she had fallen down a hole and then trampled by a herd of rampaging elephants. Her hair was a mess and on end. Dry plaster stuck in her hair, making it seem like the ceiling fell on her. Her face was redder than her PJ shirt, which was also covered in dry plaster. She had the deepest look of anger on her face, and she looked like she was ready to turn into the Hulk at any moment.

"Morning dear! Breakfast?" Mrs. Higurashi said with a smile.

Kagome stared at her mom with a look that clearly stated that she thought her mom was crazy. She handed Kagome a bowl of cereal with a spoon sticking out from the food. She eyed her mother and then the bowl extended out to her.

She grabbed the bowl and slammed it on the table. Milk and cereal flew on the table, leaving not a lot left in the bowl. She sat down and began to eat, with much resemblance to a caveman.

"I have some news to tell you, and I have kept it off to tell you until today." Her mother said after everyone was calm.

Kagome stopped munching on her cold cereal and looked at her mom with interest. It's amazing how a person can change so quickly from Godzilla to, well, the angel version of Godzilla.

"Now you know how we have that empty guest room that we never put into use?" She said motioning somewhere behind her.

Kagome stared at her mom with wide eyes, as did her grandpa. Souta seemed oblivious to the shock of the two occupants of the table.

"WE HAVE AN EXTRA ROOM! How come you didn't tell me!" The two demanded at Mrs. Higurashi with wide eyes.

She ignored the sudden outburst and continued with her story.

"And I have had a rough time living here without your father and all. And I have been wanting another child, but not one of my own. There are many children in Japan who have been kicked out of their homes, and one of my old friends has provided my with an opportunity that I've been waiting for. And I've decided to accept the offer."

They all looked at her with puzzled eyes, wondering curiously about what she was getting at.

"I need help around the shrine, and no one has enough strength for what I'm referring to. So I have agreed to help out one boy, one homeless boy. He is going to be staying here, in that spare room and he will be like a brother and grandson to you all."

Kagome's mouth fell open in shock. She was astonished at what her mother had just told her. Her grandpa and brother did not share the same feeling from the smiles on their faces. Kagome's brain wasn't functioning properly, seeing as it was still trying to process the information just given to her.

"Cool. Do you know anything else about this guy?" Souta asked leaning over the table in closer to his mom.

"From what I know he is only 16, a few months older than you Kagome. I have met with him briefly and he seems to be a lovely young boy. He is very polite and nice, and very handsome Kagome." Her mom winked at her.

"I sent some money to buy him some better clothes and my friend has taken him out shopping today, before he arrives here." She finished with a smile.

Kagome finally snapped back to reality.

"MOMM~Y! This isn't fair! Why did you have to get some weird bum to stay with us!" Kagome whined crossing her arms over her chest.

"I'm sorry Kagome, but you don't need that extra room, and plus its smaller than your own. And on top of that he's not a weird bum, he is a polite young boy who needs a place to stay, and I offered him that." She glanced down at her wristwatch. "And speaking of Inuyasha, he should be here soon. So let's get motivated people. We want to make a good first impression, and I'm not going to have you embarrass me in front of anyone."

They all moaned, including the old man. Her mom seemed pretty steamed, but an idea popped into her head as she disappeared from the kitchen, only to return moments later with a few items in her hands. A blue stuffed dog, an old scroll, and a CD.

"Get moving now or else…these are going bye-bye. And I am serious guys." He said with an evil glint in her eyes.

The three of them jumped up and ran out of the room, grabbing their things before holding their items tightly in their hands.

Kagome slowed down after she got onto her floor and strolled into her room with her head hung low.

She lightly closed her door, not having enough energy to slam it in anger. She straightened out her shirt, which had crumpled up from her wake-up. She slumped her shoulders forward, completely forgetting the proper posture that her mother had told her to keep.

"This is going to be the best summer ever." She said sarcastically as she flipped on her boom box.

Her Evanessence CD started playing as she reached into her dresser, pulling out a pink spaghetti strap and a white skirt. She slipped into them and then started doing her hair in the usual look. Down.

Soon she found herself singing into her hairbrush while jumping on her bed. It was something she always found herself doing. She flipped her hair over her face as she fell to her knees, finishing up the song `Bring Me to Life.'

"That was exhilarating." She laughed at herself.

She was pulled out of her happy mood when her mom yelled up the stairs for her to come down. This was it; this was the moment when she'd meet the guy that would be there, like her shadow, for the rest of the summer. She slipped on her pink fuzzy bunny slippers as she hopped down the stairs.

As she stepped out into the sunlight, she saw her family waiting there for the black truck that was just pulling up. She sighed to herself as she hurried over to where she was supposed to be just as she saw her mother hugging a man with brown shaggy hair.

She growled in her mind at him, wanting him to not touch her mother. Kagome didn't like it when her mother became friendly with any men after her father passed away. It hurt her to think about him, but she cleared him from her mind as the two adults pulled away and the man turned to them.

"Ah Souta. Last time I saw you, you were still being held in a blanket and wearing diapers." He ruffled his hair before he turned his attention to Kagome.

He opened his arms in a hugging motion, but Kagome stayed her distance. He dropped his arms after he started talking to her.

"Kagome. My have you grown. I remember you when you were this tall." He said showing her how tall with his hand.

She gave him a look clearly telling him to take two steps back or else he would get a swift kick in the-

"Aren't you going to give Uncle Jon a hug?" He said with a tilt of his head.

`Uncle? How can he be my uncl-` Kagome thought to herself when she remembered. `Dad's brother.'

"No." She said still remembering him from long ago.

She hated him with every inch of her body. She knew exactly who he was, and he wasn't her uncle. He was really her biological father. One night her mother had gone out with her future brother-in-law while her fiancé was on a business trip, and they had both gotten hammered. Spent a night together and he ended up getting her pregnant.

Her father was forgiving and forgave her mother after much pleading and crying, and then they started over new. She hated the man that stood before her, and would never refer to him as her father, let alone her uncle.

"What? Don't tell me you're mad at me for the whole…thing?" He said slightly taken by her response.

"No of course not. I just hate you with every inch of my body, and even if you are my father, you will never take the place that your brother took on. You are a filthy bastard and I am ashamed to say that I am your daughter." She spat at him before stepping back from him.

He looked at her with sad eyes, knowing that what he did was wrong. But something in them, a tiny sparkle told her that he wanted to become part of her life, be her father, but it was wrong since his brother married her mother.

"Kagome, that is no way to talk to your uncle." Her mother snapped at her.

"Oh my god mom! He's not my uncle! He's my biological father for god's sake! Can't you refer to him in the proper way?" She said throwing her arms in the air.

She said nothing, watching her daughter with intense eyes. She turned away from her and turned to Jon.

"I'm so sorry Jon that you had to witness this. Let's do what you came here for, not to bicker over the past." She said with her back to Kagome.

He nodded and turned to the truck. He opened the back door and stuck his head in. He mumbled something to the passenger in the back seat, and then stepped aside waiting for someone to come out.

That's when Kagome's heart stopped beating. Out stepped a teenager with long white hair that looked as if it was made of silk. On his head he wore a baseball cap, red to be exact. His golden eyes darted here and there, glistening in the sun like liquid gold.

His hands were bunched into fists, and he stepped with as much regret as Kagome did about watching him the way she was. He had on a pair of yellow and black board shorts that gave him a bumblebee look. Though his short ruined the whole look he had going on below. It was a baggy red Linkin Park tee shirt, and in the background was an amp.

His eyes connected with hers and as she blushed from the sudden connection, an arrogant smirk appeared on his face. A single fan hung over his lip, which went unnoticed by Kagome as she tried to hide her face by examining her slippers.

"Hello Inuyasha! I am Mrs. Higurashi from before, but you can call me Kia. Welcome to the Higurashi shrine." Her mother said in an unnatural tone.

He bowed at her and then replied quietly to her, that even Kagome couldn't hear. The only thing that was going through her head at the moment seemed to be the boy. `Why didn't she tell me he was so gorgeous?' She thought as she sneaked a quick glance at him again.

"Kagome, Souta. This is Inuyasha. Inuyasha this is Souta and Kagome, my kids." She said pointing at the two of them.

"Hi." Kagome said quietly, but something told her that he caught it.

"Hey there! This is going to be a great summer you know? So do you like video games? Cause I got a lot of them. Want me to show you? Huh?" Souta said badgering him with questions.

"Now honey; don't bother Inuyasha with questions right now. Let him get settled in and then you can show him your things."

"Ok~ay mom." He said glumly.

Kia turned her attention to Kagome, who seemed to be looking everywhere but at their guests.

"Kagome, I'd like you to show Inuyasha his room, and then we can all get together in the kitchen for some tea."

"Mom…" She said in a whiny tone.

She glared at her, making her feel like a helpless little kid once again. Kagome read her look clearly.

"Alright. This way." She mumbled.

She waited for him to start walking before she set off inside the house, leading the way to the spare bedroom. She happened to have thought it was a closet the whole time, but her mother proved her wrong.

They arrived there in no time, and unfortunately it was right next to Kagome's. She opened the door and gazed at it with interest. The room looked almost identical to hers, except the walls were red and gray. She walked over to the closet and yanked it open. Instantly she regretted it. Inside were all her dad's things, the one's she thought were hiding away in a dumpster or at least in her mom's room.

She stared at the things with shiny eyes, never really seeing what he had owned. There were books, clothes and accessories all over. She reached on the top shelf, reaching for a photo album, which almost revealed her rear to Inuyasha.

He was watching her with interest, seeing what was so fascinating about the closet that had her staring.

She tugged at the heavy book, and it slid a bit off the shelf, but it didn't come down. She tugged again a little harder, but it wasn't a wise move on her part. She fell back with the weight of the book as it came soaring down to the ground.

Kagome knew that the landing she was in for was going to be painful, but she hadn't expected someone to catch her. She looked up to be staring into gold, Inuyasha's eyes. He had caught her right before she had gotten to the ground.

When she was standing on the ground firmly with the book in front of her, she finally had the nerve to speak to the boy.

"Thanks for helping me there." She said with a slight smile.

"No problem. Maybe you should try not being so clumsy." He said in a voice that made Kagome's breath get hitched in her throat.

Though she soon got her breath back when she realized what he had just said to her.

"I am so not clumsy. I am perfectly fine thank you." She said proudly.

He scoffed.

"Yeah right. Perfect? You've got to be on something to think that." He retorted back.

"Well sor~ry mister I-know-everything. I didn't know that you were so psychic."

"Must be someone's time of the month."

Kagome's mouth opened in anger.

"You have no right saying things like that! You don't even know me!"

"I know enough to say that you are a stuck up bitch who's mom's a whore by the looks of it, or she just gets really hammered after a few drinks. You know, you do have an interesting family." He said crossing his arms in triumph.

"Screw you. You should hurry and get down into the kitchen before my mom gets worried." She said while turning on her heel and walking into her room to drop the book off.

She then made her way back into the kitchen where everyone except her grandpa was. She sat down across from Jon, not sparing him a glance.

Inuyasha soon came down and joined them, sitting at the end of the table, facing Mrs. Higurashi.

"There you are Inuyasha. I began to believe that Kagome had done something to you." Jon joked when he sat down.

He didn't reply.

"So how's school Kagome?" He asked turning his attention to her.

"Why do you care. You didn't ask me that years ago when I found out that who I believed was my real dad wasn't. Were you out getting drunk with someone else, not caring about your daughter?" She asked coldly.

The doorbell rang and Souta jumped out of his seat to get it. There was a murmur of voices before he yelled back to them.

"It's Ty! I'm going outside to play with him! Be back later mom!"

Then the door slammed shut and the conversation resumed.

"Kagome. You know as well as I do that I couldn't be there for you. My brother was already furious with my for getting his wife pregnant. He wouldn't allow me near you." He explained.

"I hope you realize that everything that I've heard come out of your mouth has been lies? Don't you ever learn? God, my whole life I've felt like an outcast because I don't even get a letter or a phone call from my real dad. I just wanted to at least speak to you once. It couldn't hurt to do so."

"I tried! But your father, I mean my brother intercepted them and continued to tell me to leave you alone. I tried Kagome I tried."

"Well you could've tried harder."

"Don't you understand that I love you and that I always have?"

"Sure, then why didn't you fight for custody then? Mom would've agreed wouldn't she have? I was supposed to be apart from your life. You were supposed to be apart of mine!"

"I'm here aren't I? This is the one time where I can actually see you without getting a threat from my brother."

"Well its kind of hard when he rotting in his grave!"

"Kagome! Listen to me. I want to be apart of your life now, and there's nothing standing in my way."

She laughed with tears bunched in her eyes.

"My whole life I was forced to call you my uncle. An uncle I never saw. Everyone wanted me to. I don't care about your god damn excuses about him standing in your way from seeing me! You could've shown up when he went away on his week long business trips! You could've called my cell! You could've done something else to make me feel loved."

"What?"

"My whole life after I found out that I was your daughter, I felt like you didn't love me because you never came to see me or call me. My friends used to talk all highly about their dads. I lied and told them about my fake father from my imagination."

He stared at her as she got up from the table with a tear rolling down her cheek.

"If being a father was a job, you'd already be fired."

She stomped off outside, not bothering to close the door after herself. Jon got up from the table not wanting to let her believe a word that she expressed in their brief conversation. He left the door open too, and walked out after her.

"Kagome!" He called as she walked barefoot into the middle of the shrine property.

"Kagome, please stop." He asked with desperation in his voice.

She stopped and turned around slowly as he approached her cautiously. He was within arms distance when another word was spoken.

"Kagome I've made a lot of mistakes in my life, and not being there for you was one of them. But I'm not going to continue to make that mistake. I'm not going to abandon you; I'm going to be there for you. I'm going to make you apart of my life now." He said softly.

More tears came down her face as she heard those words. Her lips trembled and before she could do anything mature; she ran into his arms and let it all out. He sobbed slightly, not wanting to scare him.

He held onto her as she cried. He rubbed her back and kissed her on the forehead before whispering in her ear.

"Kagome I love you. You are my little angel from heaven that's come to light up my life."

She pulled back to face him, her face stained with tears.

"I love you too…dad." She whispered before hugging him again.

Back at the doorway of the house, Inuyasha and Kia stood there, watching the two share a personal moment. Inuyasha was a little confused at the whole situation in the beginning, but Mrs. Higurashi explained it all to him while watching the two.

A sniff was heard from the woman next to him, and he looked down at her. She had tears in her eyes, and she was holding her hands near her mouth with a smile on.

Kagome was back in her room, listening to Blink 182, the untitled CD, after the event involving herself and her real father. She sat lying on her bed, trying to piece together her life. For some reason it seemed almost completed with having him in her life, but still there was still a small part of her heart feeling empty. A part where some boy would fill one day.

She was shocked awake when her phone started ringing right next to her. She placed a hand over her heart after being startled by the sudden noise. She lifted it off its cradle and placed it to her ear.

"Hello?" She asked.

"Hey, Kagome?" A feminine voice said from the other end.

"Yeah."

"It's Sango."

"Oh, okay. What's up?" She asked after realizing that it was indeed Sango.

"Nothing, just wondering if Eri told you about the party she's throwing for you on this Saturday for you. Think of it as a birthday party, but celebrated our style."

"Oh okay."

"Well now that that's settled, what's new?"

"Nothing, you know same old. Well except that this Jerk is living with me right now. Well this gorgeous jerk might I say."

"Really now? How old?"

"16, a few months older than me, but he's a total ass."

"Seems like your type."

"What? My type?"

"Yeah, you know Kouga?"

"Okay I don't like him. He just is always there. And he's nice to me."

"Whatever. He's like in love with you, you should go out with him. He flirts with you, and he isn't clingy."

"Yeah…I don't know. I just don't feel that connection."

"Suit yourself. Anyway bring your friend to the party Saturday and maybe he'll have some fun."

"Okay, but you'll regret it buddy."

"Bye."

"Bye."

She hung up the phone and sat back down on her bed. She heard a few doors open and close, then footsteps leading to the bathroom. Someone must be having a shower from the sounds of it. And then there as the water.

By that point Kagome realized that she had to go to the bathroom. She hopped out of bed and then sat back down on the edge waiting for the person to get out of the bathroom.

It was a few minutes before she heard the water stop and then she got up and stood at the door waiting for the person to finish up. When the door opened she expected her mom or maybe her brother to be there, but was highly surprised when a half-naked Inuyasha stood there. He had a towel on his head that he was rubbing his hair with when he stepped out.

Kagome stared at him, and her tongue was practically hanging out of her mouth. He looked at her with a smug look on his face, and she couldn't help but blush. He stood there, letting her take in every inch of him before he walked into his room. She watched him walk away before rushing in the bathroom to hide herself.

`Oh my god! I can't believe I just stared at him! But I can't help it when he is so fine! God his arms and his chest were so perfect and just! He's like saintin in a god's body.' Kagome thought as she sat down on the toilet to let herself gain back her proper colour. Then she realized what she was in there for.

****************************************

I'm sorry I like changed it completely, but I found it a little too dull. So I spiced it up a little, trying to make it better. If you don't like it then tell me and if you do tell me again. I like your opinion. But if someone pisses me off a lot, I can guarantee that I will bad-mouth them. I have a quick-temper like Inuyasha! ^__^ Ha! Ha! Anyway yeah.

Peace
