Changing your mind
Chapter 2 - "...Shit"

A serious ache throbbed in Inu Yasha's skull. He had to clench his jaw to keep the whimpers from emerging. 'Jesus...what the fuck happened? I swear to Kami that was the worst pain I've ever felt...'

"Are you alright?" A petite voice breathed near his ear. Damn, was Shippo getting further from puberty or what? He tried to sit up. Really he did. He wasn't sure if perhaps someone had injected cement in his limbs or if he was just weak. It was then that the panic hit. How could he protect Kagome if he couldn't even move? His struggle to stand became frantic, snarling and gouging the earth with his talons. Eventually he made it to his knees, looking around, but only seeing a blur of bloody orange. 'What the fu-...Oh.' He mentally slapped himself (which only happened to hurt his head more), and began to open his eyes.

When the lush, foggy green of the grass came into view, he felt the world must have been shifting beneath him because the colours swirled and suddenly it was a smear of pale blue. He groaned and blinked, feeling a small hand grasp his shoulder to help him stand once more. He accepted the assistance grudgingly and stood stone still until his vision cleared. He walked stiffly, muscles locked so that they wouldn't turn to jelly and he wouldn't collapse. A spring came into view, the soft pattering of feet trailing him. A slight smirk curved his lips.

Kagome was worried about him. The thought alone made his chest swell with pride. He moved to wave away her concern with his left hand, only to find that nothing moved except for his shoulder.

'HOLY FUCK!' he mentally yelped, frantically searching his oddly white robes for the arm that didn't seem to be present OR accounted for.

"Sesshoumaru-sama? Do you need Rin's help?" He whirled around to find what appeared to be an eight-year old girl staring at him with a bright smile. 'Sesshou...Oh HELL no!' He made a mad dash for the lake, leaning over the rippling water and finding, to his complete and utter horror, he found Sesshoumaru's pale, shocked face staring back at him.

"Jesus...fucking...Christ," he choked out, flopping back onto the grass with a weary sigh. Once again, the same small hand of the child rested on his shoulder with a gentle, loving pressure.

"Sesshoumaru-sama? Can Rin do anything to help?" Her worried voice struck an odd chord in his heart. He didn't even bloody know the child and yet he felt attached to her.

"Go home to your parents, kid." The grumbled words in Sesshoumaru's lilting, cold voice disgusted him, his nose wrinkling. What was even worse was that the little girl jerked her hand back as if she'd been burned, sniffling and choking.

"Sesshoumaru-sama! Rin's parents are dead, remember," she child wailed, giving him her back as she sobbed into her hands. 'Good job, Inu Yasha, you prick,' he hissed at himself, hitting his forehead with the heel of his palm.

"Damn it all. I'm sorry, girl. I didn't know." She whirled around, looking shocked.

"But Sesshoumaru-sama. Rin tells you everything." She appeared highly affronted and confused. Damn it all this was going to result in more tears; the hanyou-turned-youkai just knew it.

"But...Rin. You don't understand. I'm no-" His eyes widened, breath catching in his chest, refusing to be released to finish the sentence. He frowned, released the breath in a calm sigh and tried again. "I'm I-" Once more he was prevented from telling the truth by his own traitorous body.

"Sesshou-sama? Can you breathe?" Rin's face popped into his vision as he panted in fury, confusion and most of all fear.

"Fuck this had better be some fucked up dream," he muttered to himself, only to be rapped smartly on his elfin ear by a scowling little girl.

"Bad language, Sesshou-sama," she scolded, waving her finger in front of his face, his golden eyes following it's path, making her giggle in amusement. At least the kid wasn't crying anymore.

With a long-suffering sigh, the new inu-taiyoukai stood up and held out his hand to grasp the child's who beamed in delight. It was rare that her lord showed any affection. In fact, it was almost never that he showed any emotion at all. Very much unlike the thoughtful expression that he wore on his pallid, delicate features at that exact moment. He was so pretty.

And he was her lord, and hers only.
