Chapter 3

 

Late Night Ice Cream Run

 

“Where's Kagome?” Miroku asked as he let his friend inside his house.

 

“She's sleeping.” Inuyasha replied.

 

“Ah wore her out did you?” Miroku asked. “Did you even go to dinner?”

 

“Yeah but not for long. Damn waiters hitting on MY wife.” Inuyasha mumbled.

 

“Well with the outfit she was wearing I'm not surprised.” Miroku smiled remembering the tight fitted dress. He wondered if he could ever get Sango to dress like that. He sighed knowing it probably wouldn't happen. She wasn't much of a girlie girl.

 

“Do I have to tell Sango what you did earlier?” Inuyasha asked angrily.

 

“Tell me what? What did you do earlier?” Sango asked as she walked into the room with Inuko in her arms. “Shippo is getting his coat. What did you have to tell me?”

 

“Umm...that I was going...to take you out to dinner tomorrow. I was going to surprise you but seeing as how Inuyasha said something.” Miroku said covering up what really happened.

 

“Really?” Sango asked. Her and Miroku hadn't been out in a long time and she missed it. She handed Inuko over to Inuyasha and jumped into Miroku's arms.

 

“It's a fancy place though.” Miroku said. Maybe he could get her in a dress after all.

 

“You know I don't like those kinds of places.” Sango said.

 

“I know but we haven't been out in a long time.” Miroku said.

 

“I wouldn't know what to wear.” Sango thought of whatever excuse she could.

 

“Ask Kagome. I'm sure she'd help you.” Inuyasha said.

 

“Thanks Inuyasha.” Sango said dryly.

 

“Okay, why don't you tell Kagome that and she can call Sango when she wakes up and arrange it then.” Miroku said.

 

“I guess I can suffer in heels for one evening.” Sango sighed and walked away.

 

“Thanks Inuyasha I owe you. Do you mind getting a reservation? It's short notice and with your name and influence...” Miroku trailed off knowing he'd get the hint.

 

“Yeah I'll get a reservation. I'll call you with the details.” Inuyasha said.

 

“I'm ready!” Shippo shouted as he came out of the hallway.

 

“What took you so long?” Inuyasha asked.

 

“Where's my ice cream?” Shippo narrowed his eyes at Inuyasha.

 

`Damn I knew I forgot something.' Inuyasha thought. “I'm taking you to get it. I didn't want it to melt on the way home.

 

Shippo accepted his answer and smiled as he ran out to the car. “Hurry up. I'm hungry!” He yelled.

 

“Damn kids.” Inuyasha muttered. “I guess I'm going for ice cream. I'll see you later.”

 

“Bye.” Miroku said and shut the door.

A couple hours later Inuyasha got home with a full Shippo and sleeping Inuko.

 

“Kagome is going to mad that I let you eat ice cream this late at night.” Inuyasha said.

 

“We'll keep it a secret then.” Shippo said contently.

 

“When did you become so mischievous? I thought you wanted to be a good son not a liar.” Inuyasha said.

 

“When you became my Otou-san.” Shippo replied with a smile.

 

“Smartass.” Inuyasha mumbled. “Time for bed and I don't want to hear you tomorrow saying you have a stomach ache. You ate all that ice cream so you can suffer.”

 

“You let them eat ice cream?” Kagome asked as she walked out of her bedroom in a long white nightgown and robe.

 

“So much for keeping it a secret.” Inuyasha mumbled under his breath.

 

“What ice cream parlor is open this late?” Kagome asked. “Why on earth would you take them to get some? You bribed them didn't you?”

 

“Well...” Inuyasha said nervously. “We wouldn't have had such a nice evening if I hadn't.”

 

“You punched a waiter how is that considered a nice evening?” Kagome crossed her arms. She shook her head and took Inuko into her arms. “I'm putting them to sleep. Come on Shippo.”

 

Shippo grabbed Kagome's hand and followed her to Inuko's room. Once she tucked Inuko in she went to Shippo's room and tucked him in. She said goodnight and made her way to the living room.

 

“Dammit!” Inuyasha growled as he slammed the phone down.

 

“What's wrong?” Kagome asked.

 

“Sesshomaru invited us to some formal party this Friday for work.” Inuyasha said.

 

“So what's wrong with that?” Kagome asked.

 

“I don't want to go to some stupid formal party and watch a bunch of old people crowd around and brag about their trophy wives who only married them for their money. I hate wearing suits!” Inuyasha growled.

 

“I think you can survive for a couple of hours.” Kagome laughed.

 

“You have to go to.” Inuyasha pointed to her.

 

“What? Why me?” Kagome asked. She always felt out of place at those formal gatherings.

 

“These parties are all about looks. If I don't have my wife with me then I don't look good.” Inuyasha said.

 

“You just don't want to go alone with Sesshomaru and Rin.” Kagome put her hands on her hips.

 

“Maybe that too.” Inuyasha admitted. “Sesshomaru already got a dress for you. He said it should be here tomorrow.”

 

“Why the party isn't until next week.” Kagome said.

 

“Would you rather get it at the last minute?” Inuyasha asked.

 

“I guess your right.” Kagome said. “Guess we'll need to see if Miroku and Sango can babysit again.”

 

“No, I think we'll invite them.” Inuyasha smirked.

 

“It's not nice to make other suffer with you Inuyasha.” Kagome said.

 

“Well Sango will have to suffer tomorrow. They're going out to a fancy dinner and Sango needs help with her outfit.” Inuyasha chuckled lightly.

 

“I'm going to guess that you're the one that set this up.” Kagome asked.

 

“I might've been the one that brought it up.” Inuyasha said. “Come on we had a long night. Lets go to bed.”

 

“Do you mean to sleep or something else?” Kagome asked as she followed him.

 

Inuyasha opened the door and smirked at her. “Take a guess.” He said.

 

Kagome rolled her eyes. “Tonight's going to be a long night.” She said. She squealed when Inuyasha pulled her into the room and slammed the door shut, locking it.

Darkness surrounded her. She could feel a presence. She'd felt it before but it still wasn't recognizable. In her head she could hear screaming. Just like the last dream she had. Was she dreaming? It had to be.

 

As the screams grew louder Kagome fell to her knees covering her ears. “Yamete!” She screamed. She couldn't take it anymore. So many people are in pain.

 

`Find me and relieve these people's pain.' A voice said, the same voice in her last dream.

 

“Yamete! Onegai Yamete!” Kagome screamed again.

 

Suddenly Kagome sat up in fear. She realized she was awake in her room. Fighting to catch her breath she put a hand to her heart in hopes of calming herself down. She looked to Inuyasha beside her. He was still sleeping peacefully.

 

She was glad she didn't wake him up this time. He would've been worried about her. Quietly she snuck out of bed to put her robe on and walked out of the room. She made her way towards the back of the house. She walked out the backdoor so she could sit on the porch. Sitting outside always calmed her.

Inuyasha rolled over in bed and sensed something was wrong. He stretched his hand out to reach for Kagome. When his hand met nothing but a crumple of sheets he opened his eyes and looked over. Kagome wasn't there and it was too early for her to be cooking or anything. It was about seven in the morning.

 

He sat up and threw on a pair of boxers. He wanted to find her. It was odd for her to be up this early in the morning unless something was wrong. Walking throughout the house he finally found Kagome in Inuko's room. She was sitting in the rocking chair asleep with Inuko in her arms.

 

Inuyasha smiled at the scene before moving to put Inuko back in his crib. He then picked Kagome up and carried her back to their room. He laid her down and climbed in next to her, pulling the covers up. He wrapped an arm around her waist before falling asleep.

I know this chapter is short but I wanted to get it out before I forgot about it. I think it was a good stopping place anyway. As I've said before I won't update regularly on this fic.
