InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Chasing Mushi ❯ An Unexpected Phone Call ( Chapter 7 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

AN: Hello minna, sorry I haven't updated in a while. It's just I was hoping for more reviews. If you keep this up, I'll have to start asking for a certain amount of them again. No one likes that now do they! Also, I'm not going to be able to update until next Mon. because I'm having a bad case of writers block. I'm taking the week off to help with that and write more for the five other stories I'm working on. (Check out MM.org) Ja.

Disclaimer: Oh come on.

Chapter 7: An unexpected phone call.

Inuyasha had been driving like a maniac. He had already run at least three stop lights and was still nowhere near the school. The clock on his dash read 10:05. Damn, he was going to be late.

`That does it' His mind growled and he parked the Jag at the side of the road. Slamming the door shut, Inuyasha began to run in the direction of the school.

He sped through the city at lightning speed, jumping cars, ditches, and even a building or two. 10:08, only a few more miles to go. Inuyasha could see the school now, and as he had excellent sight (we all know why) he could see the girl as well.

Inuyasha almost feel as he attempted to land softly on the sidewalk below. By all the Gods, she was a beauty. Long black hair and a shapely body with legs that could make a man weep for the want of touching them. And that dress, or what you could call a dress (more like a torture device designed by women to make men suffer from the dreaded “look but don't dream about” rule) accentuated the curves of her graceful hips, making his mouth water. `Good Breeder'. The demon inside was loose, and it was hungry.

Inuyasha shook his head and began to run again. Almost there. Then the scent hit him, Hebe. Lots of them. Alcohol. Lots of it. All centered around that angel in the dark dress, waiting for him. One block to go. Damn it, he wasn't going to make it. Fear shot through him like an arrow. Had he been a bystander, Inuyasha would have seen his eyes glow red, his claws lengthen, and fangs appear on the sides of his lip, but of course, he noted none of these changes. All he felt was an all-consuming rage at his enemies for touching what was his.

Inuyasha wasn't running now, he was flying. Sailing from rooftop to rooftop, one thought in mind. To kill anyone who stood in the way of him retrieving what was his.

He could smell them. Dirty rats, disgusting snakes. Never again would they see the light of day. Dirty basterds.

He was in the lot now, running full speed, eyes flashing, claws ready to rip flesh. He heard struggling and hushed voices, but Inuyasha didn't care. There they were, the foul scum.

It took ten of them to hold her down. Pride shot through him as he regarded the scene with the eyes of a demon, she was tough. Willing to fight. `She would make a good mate.'

`No time!!' His human side argued. Then something happened that made his snap further, made his blood boil with hatred and pulled him completely from his thoughts.

The one who seemed to be the leader had lifted her dress…and was touching her. Bad idea bub. Playtime was over.

“LET HER GO YOU BASTERERDS!!!!!!”

Kagome was paralyzed with fear (corny but true). Grubby hands moved up her leg, grabbing, groping, bruising.
`No, not like this. Please God, NO!!' Her mind was in a haze of confusion and fright, and her stomach threatened to spill at any moment. She couldn't think, couldn't breath, the air around her was stifling. It reeked with the stench of alcohol and cigarette smoke. Bruising arms held her mid-drift, her shoulders, her arms, and those hands were disgusting as they touched her. It was all too much. The knowledge that the man she had been crazy about for the longest time was fake, fabricated, unreal. That this had been a trap and like a lamb to slaughter, she had walked right into it. It was all too much. Her mind went blank.

Inuyasha was fuming. Blood red were his eyes with diamond slits of green at the pupil. Fangs elongated from his mouth and claws from his hands. Demonic ora rolled of him in waves, crashing in sheets of terror on all those who opposed him. Wind out of nowhere rose up to lift his silver locks to gleam cold death in the dismal moonlight. The snake over his girl, as well as his other goons, looked back at him stupidly. Inuyasha barely held in check his demonic urge to rip them a part with out even giving them a chance to retaliate against him.
“Let her go.” His voice was short, clipped and so quiet, it sent a visible shiver through all of them. The girl had fainted a while ago.
Like the bumbling idiots they were, they ran, tripping over one another in there haste to get away, and dropping his, as the demon part of him referred to her now, mate unceremoniously to the ground. Inuyasha's demon was enraged further by the scum's treatment of her that he turned to chase after them, intent upon feeling their blood on his claws, but a moan from behind him stopped all thoughts of vengeance. `My mate needs me now.'
His inner self calmed as he walked over to her. His girls face was covered from his view by a white mask, rimmed with small seed pearls caught the starlight in their silver orbs, making it dance. Inuyasha could see where silent tears had made tracks of fear down her pale cheeks. Lifting her fragile and tormented body into his arms, he ran one clawed finger down those tracks and rage swept over him once more. Not rage at the basterds who did this to her, but anger at himself for being a stupid prick of a half demon. “I should never have let this happen to you. This is all my fault. How you must hate me now.” He whispered into the soft curve of her slender, pale neck. As if to comfort him, she snuggled deeper into the warmth his chest provided. Idiot that he was, Inuyasha had failed to notice that the green dress, or what had once been a green dress, was torn to a point at which it barely covered all her vital parts. Tenderness seeped like a healing balm into his heart. She was loyal. Inuyasha was more than certain she had had time to run, but she didn't. She had stayed until it had been too late, waiting for him to come for her. And he had been late.
This was not, however, the time to beat himself up about his costly mistakes and he knew it. His girl murmured something unintelligible and burrowed even deeper in this strong embrace. He breathed in deeply taking in her tangy scent of wild flowers and sunshine, tasting it on his tongue and savoring the peace it brought to his troubled soul. He released one arm from his hold on her and slipped it under her knees, braced is legs and hoisted her limp form into his strong body. `Light.' Something about her seemed so familiar about her, he just couldn't place it. Sighing heavily, he jumped in the air, his treasure buried safely in the strength of his arms.

AN: Okay, so I went Inu fluffy here, it was the perfect part of the story insert the softer side of him. I'm a little bit rushed at the moment, but the next part is funny. I bet you can guess why. Let's check in with Maggie shall we?

`A black Sedan pulled up to the door of an abandoned warehouse. No number, no address, just a warehouse. Perfectly normal. Brown siding, black roofing, nothing out of the ordinary. Yah right!' Maggie ran the scenario through her brain, as she had many others in the past half hour, each ending with a giggle from herself and a funny look from the driver via the rear view mirror. By know she had racked up enough possibilities to fill a book. `This is so not cool.' The purely American phrase rang through her mind along with a tinge of pain behind her eyes as she lay on her back, starring up at the white cloth covered ceiling of the vehicle.

What had happened to her iron clad rule of `never run with gangs again'? `It rusted up and disintegrated as soon as I walked through the school doors.' A lone tear rolled its way down one of her slightly rosy cheeks. `It's not a if it's as bad as it could be. I mean, at least it's them who need me and not the other way around. I can leave any time I want.' Somehow, the thought failed to reassure her.

Mozart filled her ears as the tones of joy rang in muffled glory from her smushed back pocket. Immediately, Maggie sprang to life, pulled from her thoughts by the fear that her driver had heard her cell phone ringing, when technically, she wasn't suppose to have it. He didn't. `Thank you Lord!'

Fumbling about a little, Maggie found her phone. `What was I thinking when I didn't put it on vibrate?!?' Chastising herself wasn't going to help, so she answered.
”Hello?” `No stupid, Japanese, get with the program brainy!' “Ahh…Mushi mushi, gomen nasai.”
“Um, squirt, you can speak in English ya know.”
`Oh my god, it can't be…' “Josh?”
“Yah, babe. It's me. Hey are you okay, ya don't sound to good.”
“Ah…I'm fine…” Maggie didn't know what to say. `Um Josh, could you please hang up because I'm on my way to a gang meeting right now and I'm afraid they might shoot me if they find out I talked to you. Oh and give my love to your family. That would soo not go over well.' Maggie could almost here the long section of ranting about how dangerous it was to be doing such things.
“Um, Maggie…TALK!!!” His voice rang through her ears. He was smiling, she could hear it in his voice.
“Um…”
“Well, how is everything?” This amused him greatly, normally she would talk for hours about one thing or another, and yet here she was, unable to speak intelligently.
“Alright, um…Josh, this is a really bad time, I'm ahh…in class.” She dropped her voice at the end, hopping against everything that he would buy it. `Thank god, Josh taught me to lye so well.' Maggie crossed her fingers and prayed.

Maggie's list of all things wrong with this scenario.

1. Crossing your fingers automatically jinxes any situation to not go in your favor. (AN: Believe me when I say this. Either I'm cursed or you have damn good luck.)
2. Talked loudly before stating that you were in class.
3. Not allowed to have cell phone turned on in school.
4. Maggie does not use or have her cell phone with her in school.
5. School let out at 3:30, it is now 10:00.
6. Speaking rapidly in a scared voice doesn't help.
7. Josh trained Maggie to lye.
8. Maggie is still a terrible layer

The pause that fallowed was drawn out.
“Maggie…” Josh sounded exasperated. “You are a terrible layer.” Speak of the devil.
“ You're preaching the choir Josh.”
“I'm guessing you aren't about to tell me what's really going on then?” He sounded suspicious and a little worried. Damn.
“Josh, look…we both have problems with our pasts. (pause) I'll tell you mine when I get back okay. Please, I need to go.”
He sighed, “Alright, but you take care of yourself, kay. I don't want you getting hurt.”
“I won't.”
Silence ensued until finally, “Call me later?”
“Sure, Josh. You know I will, I just have a few loose ends to tie up here.” Maggie wanted to cry again. `Loose ends my ass! I'm only creating ends to be tied up.' She hated lying to him, especially when he had freely told her about his past. (AN: A past that I have sworn on pain of death to keep secret. Sorry guys, but authoress always keeps her promises. ^_^)
“Kay, babe…be careful”
“I will. Bye.”
“Bye.”
The other end of the line went blank as he hung up. `God I hope I know what I'm doing.'
