The Sin's of Resposibilty-1

Chikako-Child of Wisdom
My name is Chikako, first daughter of the great hanyou Inuyasha and great miko Kagome Higurashi, who defeated Naraku. Twin to Michiko, older sister to Takara and InuTenshi and younger sister to Shippo. Every once in a while I wonder why my mother named me so. Chikako means child of wisdom…I am wise…but sometimes I wonder.  I was born into an impressive but strange family lineage, with my mother being from 500 years into the future from my fathers era. Then there is the fact that my father is a half demon, full demon and sometimes a human man. You add to the mix that I have a close extended family of demon exterminators and powerful monks and it starts to seem a little odd. And to top it off my uncle is the feared Inu demon Lord of the Western lands…Sesshoumaru and then even I can see how it would seem odd to lesser mortals.

For me however it has always been normal. Over my life span many have called me arrogant and cold.  Arrogant?  I am and why shouldn't I be. I was raised to be confident by my mother and to show no fear from my father and uncle. Cold? Yes I suppose the word cold can be used to describe me also, considering I am often a cold blooded killer. I however see it as having backbone and determination.  I will do what needs to be done when others will not. Those who are smart keep me at their side instead of at their back. For if I am at your back then you are being hunted…and I always get my prey.

I hope these last few comments did not sound to harsh…I am just stating facts. I come from a family of very outgoing, loud emotional beings, I however am reserved, frank, quiet and somewhat aloof.  My mother and father say I take after my uncle and I agree though it wasn't my parents who ended up giving me my nick name. Even though the memory is more then a hundred years in the past I remember it like it was yesterday. The first time I met my great and mighty uncle, my sister and I were mere pups of the age of five…

*****
Michiko and I were walking Kohaku to the village gate with Shippo. Kohaku had been playing rough with us and father was in a bad mood and had revoked the young boys' playing privileges. Father had said it wasn't fair for him to be so rough with us since he was older and we were girls.  Chikako had pointed out to her father that he was only a year older and we were demons so that made it fair.  Like I said though father was in a bad mood anyway. Mother was in her sixth month with a new pup and she was always yelling at father, which caused him to yell at everyone else. Usually Shippo diverted father's wrath to him so our mistakes went unnoticed, today however it had been Kohaku's turn to be yelled at. Michiko was pouting as we walked our closest playmate to the gate.  I wasn't happy to see him go either but I wasn't pouting. While father was known for his temper he was also known as not being able to hold it for long. I knew Kohaku would be back tomorrow to play with us therefore I thought it would be silly to pout over nothing.

“You two go ahead and return to the house, I'll walk Kohaku home real quick and come right back.”

“Why do you need to walk him home? He's not a baby.”

The nearly 14 year old Shippo had aimed what he thought was his best glare at Chikako “He's only 6 which makes him a baby and it makes you one to.”

“But when you were six you went with mama and papa to look for the jewel shards.” Michiko stated reasonably trying to find some rational cause for Shippo's odd comment.

“I…well that was different!” Shippo's cheeks flushed at being bested by a five year old. “Look just do what I say or I'll tell.” Shippo wished he could have come up with something more original or befitting his age, but his patience was low today. Kagome had been bothering him with chores while Yasha had looked for any reason to give him a thump or two. Chikako looked like she wanted to argue but Michiko grabbed her arm and shook her head, then turned to the silent Kohaku. When Kohaku got mad he got quite. Now Michiko with tears in her eyes reached over and gave him a hug.

“Bye Kohaku, I'm sorry papa's being mean to you today.” Kohaku just shrugged while Chikako and Shippo rolled their eyes. Michiko could be a sensitive little girl and always hated good byes, as if she was truly afraid she'd never see a person again.

“Stop being a baby sister!” Chikako had said before pulling the other girl from the young boy. “You know you'll see him tomorrow, come on. Bye Kohaku.” She said as she turned her sister around to leave. Kohako acknowledged Chikako's fare well with a nod of his head as he and Shippo entered the open door of the gate. The whole fence had a spell put on it that allowed no demon to causally enter expect for Inuyasha or his family. Any other demon would get a nasty enough shock to cause them to cry out and give the village some warning. Kagome had made the spell herself. As Shippo and Kohako slipped through the twins were well on their way back home.
-----
Chikako saw the frown on her sister's face and wanted to make her smile. She hated to see her twin sad. So now she gave her sister a light push and a slight grin. “Come on I'll race you back to the house.”

“Why? I'll just beat you.” Michiko said a smile finally lighting her face.

“As if. Come on. On the count of three. One…two…three!” The identical little girls took off through the field their girl laughter following them. They were half way to the house when they heard a voice behind them.

“Stop.”

The voice was spoken softly but loud enough for them to hear. Both girls immediately stopped.  They knew the tone of authority when they heard it. Slowly they turned around to see who the cold impersonal voice belonged too. They gazed openly at the impressive man in white robes that came towards them.
-----

Sesshoumaru had been watching the group of youngsters by the gate through the forest trees. He had finally decided to come check out the rumors he had been hearing for a couple of years now. The rumors that said his half brother guarded the new demon slayer town, the rumors that said his same brother had mated and marked the powerful miko named Kagome, the rumor that the two even had pups together. These things he believed but the more disturbing rumors…had finally made him come and see these tales for his self. He had left Rin and Jaken at least twenty miles away to await his return. Sesshoumaru had gradually gained an ounce of respect for his bastard brother through the fight for the jewel. Though honestly he still probably had more respect for the miko…after all she had been the one to kill Naraku, even if she did have misplaced love for his stupid brother.

So when he had looked out into the clearing and saw the two little girls he had instantly known they were Kagome's offspring. The two girls looked exactly like her. He had no other doubt as he recognized the older but same kitsune demon who had traveled with the miko.  The other young child he could not make out though some of the facial features seemed familiar. He could not use his sense of smell, for the same current of wind that kept his presence unknown to his brother hindered him with the children.

Now however as the children stopped and turned towards him he stepped forward and slowly walked to them. He expected the children to run or cry for help any minute and was surprised when they both just looked at him.  As he came closer he tried to smell them to verify they were his brothers. The children had no scent, human or otherwise, this highly confused him and his brow twitched with curiosity. (1)Identical, except for the green and purple ribbons they wore in their hair they continued to watch him. As he came closer the one with the purple ribbon frowned slightly and grabbed her sisters arm, though the green ribboned girl pushed her sisters arm away impatiently though her expression of interest did not change. When he was five feet away he stopped not wanting the girls to bolt until he got some answers at least.

“What are two small children such as your selves doing away from home all alone? Didn't your parents teach you it's dangerous out in the wild?” The two children remained silent so he tried another tact. “What are your names?” Before her twin could stop her the one with the green ribbon spoke up.

“I am Chikako and this is my twin sister Michiko.” The little girl said clearly, her intense eyes still watching the stranger in front of her.

“I see…and how old are you?”

“We are five but I am the older twin.” Chikako said proudly quickly tossing a smirk at her sister, who automatically replied to the barb.

“Only by four minutes!” Michiko seemed to catch herself and threw a question at the stranger. “What do you want…I do not think you will be welcomed here?”

Sesshoumaru raised an whole eyebrow at the bold statement. “Really little girl…where are your manners. You know not who I am, so you can not know if I'll be welcomed or not.” Now the one named Chikako turned her understated smirk on him and replied.

“We do know who you are. We are only five but not dumb.  You are the Lord of the western lands…Sesshoumaru.”

He nodded acknowledging that she was right and without them noticing glided a foot closer to them, keeping his heightened curiosity to his self. “Little girl…how do you know my name?”

“Easy, you smell like our father and you look like him when he changes…I can tell from the marks on your face.”

“Yes papa has markings though his are red…you must be our uncle Sesshoumaru.” Michiko added softly, though a slight frown still marred her face.

“So…my brother has told you of me?” Sesshoumaru was surprised that they were not running in fear since it was clear they knew of him. He still was confused on how these could be his brothers pups when they carried not his smell or looks. He glided closer…

“No, father only calls you bad words and mother fusses at him. Our brother Shippo tells us stories about you.” Chikako stated.

“Yes, Shippo says that you were always trying to kill papa and cut off his head and take his sword. That was mean.” Michiko took up the story.

“Really…did your brother happen to mention that Inuyasha cut off my arm?” Sesshoumara stated trying to gain the girls sympathy even as he inched closer. The wind had started to shift…soon Inuyasha would come.

“Yes. But mother said she was there and that you deserved it and that later she helped you get a new arm so it was okay for father to chop it off. Mother said you were a bad demon…she doesn't know what you are now…are you bad still?” Chikako asked her face serious, her eyes focused.

“The miko is right, I did deserve to have my arm cut off…I was a very bad demon.”

“What about now?” The green ribboned twin insisted.

He directed his icy stare directly at her as he moved into the last couple of inches separating them. “What do you think?” It was the other twin that answered, her eyes narrowed.

“We think you are trickier then our brother Shippo…but we are use to tricks.”

“Really then if you think I am a bad demon and a tricky one at that…why did you not run from me.”

“You are our uncle.” They replied together having to look up at him now that he was so close.

“Yes…I suppose I am.” He said looking at them dispassionately.

-----
“You filthy bastard get away from my pups!” Inuyasha said in a deadly but subdued yell. He had smelled his brother and instantly transformed into a full demon and raced from the house. He knew his pups were outside and his heart had dropped to his stomach. His red eyes only showed rage, the fear hidden, as he skidded to a stop twenty feet from them. His longer silver hair blowing in the wind, his sword drawn.

Sesshomaru let the briefest flicker of astonishment cross his face at his brother's appearance and smell…so the rumors were true. His own eyes turned red as anger assaulted him. How dare Inuyasha turn his self into something he was not born…he would pay for it!  Without looking from the face now very similar to his own he reached out for the girls.

-----
Neither twin had taken their eyes off their uncle as they heard their father's voice. As Michiko had said they were used to tricks. So Chikako was ready when her uncles arms flashed out to grab them. She gave her sister a hard shove as a strong arm snaked around her neck whipping her around and lifting her up in the air, drawing her back against his chest. She didn't think twice about her decision after all she was the oldest…it was her job to protect her sister.

Michiko landed on her side with a gasp only a couple feet from her sister who was now dangling in the air hanging limply from their uncle's arm but not struggling. Wasting no time she put her palms flat against the ground, closed her eyes and begin to mumble.
-----
Sessehoumaru was livid that the little girl had stopped him from grabbing her sister, though he didn't even spare the other twin a glance as she fell to the ground. Though within seconds he turned to look at her and raised his brows in irritated amusement at Michiko's actions(2). She stared up at him not in fear, but in anger. If nothing else these children continued to surprise him. Why the one he held by her throat had not made one sound nor had she moved a muscle…interesting.

“You dirty dog let her go or I'll litter this field with your innards.”

“Brave words from a half demon playing at being a whole demon.”

“I'm just as much a full demon as your are. And if you drop the pup I'll be happy to tare you to pieces with my bare hands to prove it.” To further illustrate his claim Inuyasha drove the point of Tessaiga in the ground and took a couple steps forward.

“I see you are still as stupid as ever brother. I'm surprised you convinced the miko to let you mate her…and here I thought she had a little more sense.”

“You better hope I cut off your head before Kagome gets here and sees you with our pup. My mate is in a bad mood today.” Inuyash said with a sneer and took a cautious step forward. He knew that Sesshoumara would not hesitate to kill the pups if it suited his purpose.

“Father is right, mother is in a very bad mood today.” Chikako got out in a bored voice as she still hung from her neck.”

Sesshoumaru couldn't believe how calm the children were and briefly let his gaze move to the house in the distance to see a figure making their way quickly towards the field…Kagome. Sesshoumara turned back to Inuyasha. “I do not concern myself with a mere human woman.”

“Bastard you should. Kagome will skin you alive…if I leave any of you left for her.”

“Words…mean nothing…only action is proof.”

”What the fuck do you want.” Inuyasha was growing impatient and concerned for Chikako, though she seemed not to be in great distress. Her sister had finally stood up and was glaring up at Sesshomaru.

“What do I always want brother?  To put you in your place and out of your misery.  I can not allow you to run around the country disgracing our fathers blood as you play at being a demon.”

“Fine I'll give you your chance. Let the pups go and we'll see whose playing at being a demon.”

“I would brother…but I am enjoying getting to know my nieces…they are so much more interesting then their low life father.”
-----
Kagome was close enough to hear the last comment. She had come as quickly as she could, but her condition hindered her, though her fear had probably given her extra speed. She could not believe Sesshoumara had showed up after all this time.  She wasn't quite sure how she felt about Inuyasha's brother. She knew he could be cold and ruthless…but he had to have a heart in there somewhere or he would never have cared for Rin…and care for Rin he did. Nor would he had helped them on several occasions.

Kagome didn't care about any of that right now. She only cared about her children's safety. She believed he wouldn't dare hurt them, but she didn't want the girls being caught in the cross fire of a battle either. While they tended to act older they were only five…babies! Her babies and she would not let them be hurt over senseless stupid fighting!  She had been in a very bad mood today.  She was finding out that pregnancy did not become her…a least when it came to her mood swings. She had almost given in to violence already today towards Inuyasha. So when she stopped twenty feet behind him and saw her baby dangling from Sesshomaru's arm she saw red herself as she notched an arrow in her bow.

“Sesshoumaru, let my babies go right now!” She shouted across the field an angry blush on her cheeks as her hair whipped around her.

“Ahhh…the mighty miko has decided to join us.”

“I'd listen to her ass wipe. She said something similar to Naraku right before she shout him through his black heart.(3)” Inuyasha moved closer as he spoke.

“I am not Naraku.” Sessshoumara said angry for being compared to the evil trickster of a half demon.

“Your right…you'll be much easier to kill…especially if you don't let my baby go.” Kagome said icily, her gaze never wavering from her target. “And Michiko why are you just standing there? Get over here right now.”

The little girl in question shook her head and walked forward. “I can't mama, I can't leave my sister.” She said stopping to stand in front of her uncle and to the side of her hanging twin.

Sesshoumara immediately put his free hand on her shoulder, now he had both girls. “It seems that the pups did inherit something from Inuyasha, his stupidity.” Chikako didn't like being called stupid and growled in the back of her throat.

“Damn you.” Kagome whispered even as her eyes caught movement in back of Sesshoumara and didn't like what she saw. Now another one of her children would be in danger. Raising her voice she tried to reason with him. “Look let my children go and I'll try to make Inuyasha let you leave here alive.”

“I need no protection from you regarding my brother miko.”

“You remember you said that as I'm tearing out your throat.” Inuyasha said inching even closer. He had seen the same person as Kagome and was careful not to let on to his brother.

Kagome watched the person behind Sesshoumaru inch closer and frowned though she made sure to let Sesshoumaru think she frowned at him. Her temper had reached its limits. She should be resting with her feet up not out here playing referee to a bully. And the nerve of him to include her children “That's it! I'm six months pregnant as you can see, and I'm hot, my feet are swollen, I have a headache and how dare you come threatening my children and husband! We haven't done anything to you, you big bully. Now I've had enough for one day. You let the girls go this instant and go away. Come back another day and fight your brother. I want a hot bath and I am not playing with you anymore. Unhand my babies or die. Either way I plan on having my bath very soon so it's your decision.” Kagome shouted in her no nonsense voice she used on the girls when her patience was spent. Her miko aura glowed so bright all could see it.

“Uh ohh uncle you've gotten mama really mad now.” Michiko said her eyes going wide as she looked at her mother, she had never seen her this angry.

“Miko…I might leave…if I wanted to…I don't…and besides I cant.” Sesshoumara said sparing an amused glance at Michiko.

Kagome finally really glanced at the younger twin. When she had first come to the field her eyes as been drawn to her hanging daughter then fixed on Sesshoumaru, then to the person behind him. Now she took a good look at Michiko and her eyes widened at what she saw. It was almost enough to make her smile…however remembering the situation she blinked and refocused on her target. “I see, I guess you just have bad luck today because I want that bath. Your best bet is to let them go, or I'll just have to kill you.”
-----
Chikako heaved a sigh at her mothers words. “Michiko…we've upset mother.” As her twin looked up at her they caught each other's eyes. “I guess play time is over.” Michiko nodded and the twins smiled at each other barring their small but sharp fangs, as their uncle paid their conversation no attention.
-----
Shippo was sweating and hoped that his illusion scent masked that smell also. As he'd grown older he had gained new powers and refined old ones.  He was able to mask his scent and replace it with another for brief periods of time if he concentrated hard. He was doing that now as he sneaked up behind the demon lord and had masked his scent to match that of the flowers in the field. He had been coming back home and seen the situation. He was trying to get close enough to grab the twins. He wouldn't lie he was scared, had always been afraid of Inuyasha's brother. But he had to protect his sister's. Besides he felt guilty. He never should have let them walk home alone…just like he wouldn't let Kohaku go by his self. Kohaku was human besides the girls had only been a 100 yards from home. None of that would matter to his parents though. Yasha was going to give him a real beating if he lived through this.

He was surprised he had been able to inch this close to the great demon lord. Sesshoumara must have been too distracted by trying to watch Inuyasha and Kagome at the same time not to sense his approach.  That was fine with Shippo what ever worked. He was very close now and just needed to figure out a way to snatch the girls without loosing his head. As it turned out the girls found a way for him.
----
The twins simultaneously sunk their fangs into the appendages holding them. Chikako took her dangling foot and slammed it back into Sesshoumara's groin as her sister's elbow did the same. Sesshoumara let out a whoosh of surprise and slight pain and released them both. A blur of red hair streaked past him snatching the girls in the process. Sesshoumara looked down at where his forearm had been bitten as the skin sizzled and burnt away, his eyes unbelieving.
-----
Shippo caught Chikako before her feet hit the ground and snagged Michiko in his other arm and raced towards Kagome.  Foxes were known for their sprinting speed and he reached her in no time, placing his self and the twins behind her. He knew she would protect them.

“Go home Sesshoumaru.” Kagome yelled but it was too late as Inuyasha was already charging him.
-----
Sesshoumaru, looked up just in time to jump back from Inuyasha's lethal claws. However, in his full demon form Inuyasha's claws were longer then before and with a flick of his wrist he slashed at Sesshoumaru's already injured hand, causing blood to flow. Again surprise actually lit the lord of the west face. He was not used to fighting this new Inuyasha. Could it be that his brother could actually be his equal now? Sesshoumaru still doubted that, but his demon blood boiled at the thought of a worthy adversary and he was more then willing to find out exactly what he brother had in him.

In a quick move he jumped and flipped behind Inuyasha. “Now really is that the best you can do in your mock demon form?”

“It's not fake you bastard, and this time I'll do more then cut off your arm.  That will be the first of many pieces I cut you into.”
-----
The girls ran from their mothers back to her side when they smelled the blood. Now Michiko looked up at her mother still holding the bow with concern on her face. “Mama why did daddy draw blood. Your not suppose to do that when your playing.”

“Honey, your daddy is not playing with his brother.”

“They should not hurt each other…they are brothers like Michiko is my sister. Mother make them stop. You told us siblings should not hurt each other, but always protect one another.” Chikako did not want either her father or uncle hurt.

“Yes mama stop them!” Michiko pleaded as her father shoot blood spears at her uncle from his fingers.

“Damn it, I suppose I should, though your uncle could use a lesson or two.” Kagome frowned as Sesshoumaru used his whip to snatch Inuyasha legs from under him before rushing to attack.  Kagome sighed.  Yes she did have to stop the fight. She couldn't risk Inuyasha getting hurt. Squinting one eye she aimed, put some miko energy in the arrow and fired.
-----

Sesshomaru was closing in fast. Though he knew his brother would be up on his feet before he reached him, Inuyasha would not have enough time to move before he stuck his poisonous claws in his chest. Inuyasha was on his feet but in just a couple more seconds….

The arrow landed between the two with less then five inches separating them.  The power from the arrow radiated out and shook the ground making them both fly back, knocking them both flat on their backs. There bodies stung where the purifying light of the arrow had touched them.

Sesshoumara actually grimaced from the undignified position he found his self in.  He knew the miko was powerful, but this…it was obvious that her power had increased greatly.
-----
“You two stop fighting right now.  I missed on purpose…I will not miss again. Though I haven't made up my mind who I'll hit. Maybe you Inuyasha. You have a family to think about, hell one on the way. What would we do if you were injured and in front of the kids!  Or maybe I'll just solve the problem and shoot you Sesshoumara for daring to threaten my pups in anyway.”

“We were not scared of him mother.” Chikako spoke as the two men stood up.

“Don't either of you make a move towards each other.” Kagome's attention was on the rising figures. “And for the record I was scared, and I swear to you on the child I carry in my belly if you ever include any of my children in your squabbles or put them in danger again I will kill you with my bare hands.  Make no mistake Lord of the west I can and will do it. For goodness sake it's time you two stopped all this nonsense anyway. Your brothers!”

Inuyasha and Sesshoumara were glaring at each other with their eyes. Now the latter turned pointedly to Kagome. “Miko…I doubt your claim, but will admit maybe I made an error in judgment. It was never my intention to use the pups…not really for I am no coward who hides behind children.  They caught my interest. As the young one said they did not seem to be afraid of me in the least. They show great bravery for one's that were sired from my idiot brother.”

“Of course we were not afraid of you…you are our uncle.” Chikako spoke and tried to walk forward but Shippo's hand on her shoulder stopped her.”

“Family…little pup does not mean much to me.” Sesshoumaru said staring at the bold twin.

“It should. Mama taught us that family is the most important thing. And that you only protect your brothers and sisters not harm them. You are not allowed to hurt father and he is not allowed to hurt you.”

“Allowed?” The tiniest twitch of his lip was the only sign that he wanted to smile. He could not believe the twin named Michiko had presumed to tell him what he could and could not do. “I see brother that you have not taught your children their proper place.”

“Their place is where ever the hell they want it to be!”

Kagome felt like screaming as she saw the start of another fight beginning. “Sesshoumara listen.” She shouted to interrupt them. “Inuyasha is your brother whether you like it or not. He has half of the jewel inside his body that is how he can turn full demon. I don't need to tell you the power the jewel holds…you know what one shard can do.  I like wise have half of the jewel in my body, so you know how great my powers must be.  I don't think I need to say the rest you were never a fool. It would be nice if we could have you at our side and not our backs. Putting all that aside, you are Inuyasha's brother and my children's uncle…I would hate for harm to befall you. I think it's time you two called a permanent truce. You must learn to accept if not like us. I am your brothers mate…he marked me when he was in the form you see now…the blood of your father runs through my veins and the blood of these children. I hope if nothing else that will serve as a reminder as to why they should never be harmed. I hope I can count on you to protect my children… if ever there is a need.” Kagome delivered all this in the most non confrontational voice she could muster.

“I see.” And he did see. The miko and his brother would be very powerful foes. He believed her claim for he had seen it in the children. Pups as young as they were should not have exhibited the powers that they had today. The one named Chikako had poisonous fangs, very much like the poison that dripped from his own hands. “Very well I will take your words into consideration. My brother is fortunate that he mated a wise and cool headed woman…even if you are human.”

“Thanks.” Kagome said dryly before directing her next comment to her husband. “Inuyasha, please come back to the house, I really need that bath.”  Inuyasha tossed one more heated gaze his brother's way before walking in Kagome's direction picking up his sword on the way.

Sesshoumara again felt his lip twitch as he watched his brother go obediently to his mate. He started to comment about it but thought better of it seeing as how Kagome still had her bow and arrow pointed his way. He could not believe his hot headed brother could be so easily stayed by the words of his mate and a couple of pups.  It was exactly why he had no desire to ever take a mate.  It made one vulnerable…it was bad enough he had Rin to care for. He again glanced at the two little girls that stood confidently by their mother's side. Either they were soft and stupid or really felt no fear of the whole situation. He felt a tiny spark of pride that the two brave and fearless pups had his blood in them. With the proper training they could be great warriors.
-----
Inuyasha had just reached Kagome's side as she lowered her arrow when his brother spoke.

“Send the girls to me when they turn 15.”

“What? What the hell are you talking about now?”

“You heard me brother, it is not a request. Either you will send them or I will come for them when they are 15. They will stay with me for a couple of months so that I can properly train them. They should know how to weld a sword so that they don't go failing it about the place like you do. Having one embarrassment in the family is enough.” Sesshoumara turned and started to leisurely walk towards the forest from which he'd came.

“Wait just a damn minute. There's no way I'm letting my-.”

“Inuyasha let it go please. We have ten more years to worry about if he's serious or not. Let's just get the children back to the house. My back is killing me from holding that bow so long.” Kagome said turning and ushering the children back towards the house.

“Feh! Alright, but that bastard has lost his fucking mind if he thinks-“ Inuyasha was cut off again but this time by Chikako.

“Father…I liked uncle. He was fun to play with. I hope my venom didn't hurt him to bad.”

“Ha, I wish it would have done more damage. And what do you mean you liked him? He was hanging you by your throat!”

”Like I said he was fun you play with.”

“You would like him.” Shippo spoke up turning around to stare at Chikako. Michiko had jumped on his back and he was giving her a piggy back ride. “You acted just like him, all cool and collected. If that would have been me he had by the throat I would have peed my pants!”

Kagome stopped and glared at Inuyasha. “I want a ride like Michiko, my feet hurt.” She pouted. He held in the curse words on the tip of his tongue and bent down to let her climb on. He held on to one of Kagome's legs with one hand and scooped up Chikako with his other.

“Father I can walk.” The little girl said, mortified at being held like a baby.

“I know you can now be quiet.” Inuyasha just wanted to feel his pup in his arms. He had been terrified as he'd watched her dangle in the air.

“See I told you, she's just like a little Sesshoumara. To proud to let someone carry her.” Shippo teased walking backwards so he could smirk at his sister.  “From now on I'm gonna call you Sessa!”

“Hey watch it you idiot.  Don't think I've forgotten that you were suppose to be watching the girls in the first place.” Inuyasha snarled at Shippo, causing the kitsune to flinch.

Chikako meanwhile frowned and shook her head. “Don't, that is not my name, my name is Chikako!”

Michiko found her sister's irritation funny. It was rare to get a rise out of her sister, so she joined in on making fun of her. Plus she wanted to divert attention away from Shippo. She didn't want him getting in trouble for their little prank. “I like it. Sessa, Sessa, Sessa, Sessa!”

“Stop calling me that!”

Sessa!”

“Mother, father make her stop.”

Sessa!”

Inuyasha flattened his ears and quickened his pace to the house ignoring the shouting taking place. While on his back Kagome closed her eyes tightly as she felt her headache becoming worse. It was hard to remember they were still little girls, when one moment they were calmly standing up to Sesshoumaru and the next they were bickering like the five year olds that they were.
*****end memory

I learned to love that nick name my brother inadvertently gave me. For I thought it was a great honor to be compared to my great uncle.  He and I are close…well as close as one gets to my Uncle Seeshoumaru.  Until now I could not appreciate how worried mother and father must have been for us that day. It took me having my own pups to understand the fear a mother has. For a time I had thought I would follow in my uncles foot steps again by never taking a mate. Eventually I had, only to think I would never have pups.  That had been my mates doing mostly. He'd had his reasons and I'd had mine.  It had taken my mate and I longer then I wished to come to a compromise.  But I suppose that was to be expected. I am not the most yielding person…but what can you expect from a person nicked named after Sesshoumaru.

Kohaku-Name of a Memory

Hmm…where to start. I really don't like talking about myself but a promise is a promise. I was named after my uncle who was killed by Naraku, then controlled by him then killed by him again.  So it's no wonder that I've never particularly liked my name.  Maybe that's also why I've spent my whole life being the opposite of everything he unintentionally was.  He never was the great taijiya that he was meant to become.  I have succeeded where he failed. I felt compelled to do so as I was the first new taijiya from my mother's line, who was the last of the original slayers.  You would have thought my mother named me but it was my father…Miroku.  I was told the story goes like this…

******
“Huff, huff inhale.  Huff, huff inhale.”  Kagome gave instructions that Sango tried to follow.  She was laying in bed, sweat dripping down her body as Kaede squatted between her legs.  She had requested the old miko for she didn't trust any of the midwives in the new village to deliver her first child.  She had not screamed once.  For she was a warrior and warriors did not scream though she really wanted too.  Besides babies were suppose to be a blessing…right?

“How…much…longer Kaede?” She asked in-between breaths.  It seemed like she had been doing this forever when in reality it had only been four hours.

“Not long child.  A couple more pushes should do it.”

“Your doing great Sango!” Kagome said cheering her on.  She herself was sweating like it was her in labor.  It was incredible hot in the small birthing room.  She didn't know how Sango did it.  She hadn't screamed once.  A lot of grunts and moans but not one scream.  Kagome liked to think she had something to do with that.  For she had taught Sango a couple of Lamaze techniques.  More likely it had to do with the fact that Sango was taking all her pain out on Kagome's hand. She winced and looked down at her poor hand.  Lips twisted she breathed through the pain.  Warily she thought it should have been Miroku's ass in here getting his wandering hand gripped to death instead of hers.  However she had been told by both Sango and Kaede that men of this era did not witness child birth.  As such Miroku and Inuyasha were out side pacing in the hallway of the little house that Sango and Miroku lived in.

“Oh gods this hurts!”

“Focus and breath.   Huff, huff inhale.”

Sango gave Kagome a look that said she'd like to stuff her “huff, huffs” in a not to nice place.  After glaring a little more she tried to do what she was told. Every contraction felt like it was draining the life out of her.  “Oh…the baby…ahhhhh!”
-----
At the first and only scream Miroku burst through the door with Inuyasha on his heals.  So far the room had been relatively quite.  If Sango had screamed something must by wrong.

“What is it?”

It is a baby.” Kaede said calmly as she smoothly cut the umbilical cord with a knife. Picking up the still covered in membrane, crying baby she handed it to a stunned Miroku. “Here hold the baby for a moment while I see to your wife.”

“Eeehh gross!” Inuyasha commented, turning his eyes skyward so he didn't look at the baby or anything of Sango's that he wasn't suppose to see.

“It's not gross it's beautiful.”  Kagome said absentmindedly wiping Sango's forehead as she looked at Miroku holding the baby.

The monk stood with an indiscernible look on his face.  He had a child…a baby boy. The bawling baby jerked and he gripped the slippery fellow tighter.  Being careful that his rosary did not press too much into the new flesh.  Months ago he and Sango had decided that he should cover and wear the rosary over his wind tunnel again.  Though it seemed as if he had complete control over when he used it, they wanted to be safe.  After all it wouldn't do for him to be holding the baby one day and have his hand suck him in.  No, no Sango would have his head then for sure.  He was still looking in awe when he felt a tug on the baby.

“I need to wash the child now.” Kaede tugged gently again and finally Miroku let go.  He followed her with his eyes as she took the baby to a big bowel of water and started to clean him.

“Miroku…what are you doing in here.”

Whipping around at Sango's whispered words he went and knelt by her side and brushed the hair off her forehead.  “My love, are you all right?”

“I think I blacked out for a moment.  But I'm fine.  The baby…”

“Is fine also.”

“Good. Now get out of here you pervert. You are not suppose to see me like this.  Both of you get out.” She directed this last comment to both men.

“Love you screamed-.” Miroku started.

“Yeah, and I was just following him.  I'm no pervert I didn't even look at your…oh hell, come on monk lets go.” Inuyasha said skirting around Sango's unmentionable area to tug Miroku off the floor and towards the door.

“Yes leave. Give us twenty minutes and you can come back in.” Kaede said wrapping the clean baby in a blanket.  The two men left and Kagome and Kaede proceeded to clean up the room and Sango.
-----
Thirty minutes later Kaede opened the door and gestured the men in as she was going out with the dirty materials.  They had changed the bedding and cleaned Sango putting her in a new gown. Now she sat slightly propped up with a half sleeping nursing baby at her breast.

“Oh hell. Why'd you let us in old woman if you knew that Sango was exposed?” Inuyasha shouted out the door to the retreating Kaede.  His cheeks red as he averted his eyes.  Sango blushed too and quickly unlatched the sleeping babe and covered her half exposed breast.

“Relax Inuyasha it's not like you haven't seen a breast before.” Kagome said getting up and going to his side.

“Yeah well I've never seen hers!”

“Of course not baka, why would you.” As they continued to argue in the back ground Miroku walked forward and sat on the bed.  He only had eyes and ears for his wife and son.  Though he had known it was coming he didn't know how he felt about sharing Sango's “commodities.” Though he supposed he had no choice…the child had to eat.  As if she could read his thoughts Sango laughed and shook her head.

“Are you happy now?  I married you and bore you a child.”

“I'm very happy but our deal is not yet complete.  I asked you to marry me and have my children.” By now Kagome and Inuyasha had settled down.

“Ha! As if I'll be letting you touch me again you lecher.”

“I have a feeling you will.” He said smiling, already running his hand along her hip.  Sango blushed and to hide it lowered her head to the baby's.

“What will we name our first son husband.” They had kicked around some names over the last few months but could never agree. Now she left the decision up to her husband.

Miroku looked down on the two must dearest things to his heart, his wife and his son.  A little over a year ago he would not have believed he would be this happy.  He was alive, he had the woman of his dreams and he had a child. Sango was all that he'd ever wanted in a woman beautiful and strong.  She was so lady like but had been raised on fight and defend all her life.  She had suffered so much tragedy.  Having her family and village taken from her by a maniac. Then she had to watch as her only brother was controlled and used by the same villain.  He had watched as Kohaku's plight had torn at her heart over and over again.  May Naraku be roasting in hell as his own rage at the fact that they'd all become happy. Never again would he take something from Sango or Miroku.  Never would he hurt the baby the she held in her arms.  Stroking the baby's head with his afflicted hand he finally spoke.

“We should name our son Kohaku.”

Sango lifted wide eyes to her husbands. “I would never…ask that of you.”

“You are not asking I am insisting.”

“Do you mean it?” Sango asked tears in her eyes.

“Yes. You have given my life so much.  It is a small gift I give you of naming our son after your beloved brother.”

“Ahh geez.  Why don't you just put a sign on the boy that says `disturbed' now.” Inuyasha said only to have his breath knocked out of him as Kagome elbowed him in the gut.

“I think it's a great idea.” Kagome said her own eyes misting.

“Thank you my sweet monk.  We will name him Kohaku then.” Sango said giving him a little kiss on the cheek.

“Yes he will redeem your bothers name and his memory will never be forgotten.”

“Ohhh this is wonderful!  Now you two stop making goo goo eyes at each other and turn around.  I promised mother and Shippo pictures.” Kagome went over to her book bag in a forgotten corner and took out the disposable camera and came back to Inuyasha's side.

Miroku sat up by his wife and put his arm around her shoulders. “Oh Kagome not now, I look terrible.”

“No you don't you look terrific.  You should see yourself.  Happiness is shinning out of every pore.  Now smile on the count of three.  One, two three!” Kagome snapped the picture of the grinning couple and the sleeping baby.  Turning she threw her arms around Inuyasha's waist.  “Today was the best day ever! A knew life was brought into the world!”

Inuyasha was blushing from her affections and by what he was looking at. “Yeah and by the looks of it their starting on another bundle of joy.” He said dryly.

Kagome turned and looked seeing the couple in an intense kiss. “Oh!”

“Yeah, `oh'.   Let's leave the two love birds alone for a while.” He took her hand and led her out the door closing it behind him.  Sango and Miroku didn't stop kissing until the baby woke up long moments later.
***** end memory

So I was named after a memory, a mostly unpleasant one. I was suppose to redeem my uncles name and I suppose I have.  My mother said I did have some of my uncle's ways.  For even before Naraku he was a serious young child who was always concerned about living up to slayer expectations.  I was a serious child but I was never concerned with being a slayer.  If I must say so I'm a damn good one.  I had two choices, follow in my father's footsteps and become a monk or my mothers and become a slayer, I choose to fight.  I never had much spirituality, though I had been taught it and fighting since a young age.  No fighting was in my blood…my mothers and even my fathers.  I had probably honed my fighting skills early by playing with my cousins.  The twins though girls, had loved to rough house in their younger days.  Why it wasn't until they turned 11 that they begin to act more lady like.  Even then they had still trained and sparred with me in the art of fighting.

I am slender of build but beefier then my father and I use my muscles well.  I wear my black hair short and mostly in the high knot of a pony tail befitting a male slayer.  I can be charming when I choose to though I am not a pervert like my father.  He had remained a pervert groping my mother throughout their married life.  It wasn't unusual to hear a slap through the village and know that it came from my mother's hand. Though she only got mad at him when he did it in public.  Unfortunately I had seen many times at home where she only smiled, or actually leaned into his wandering hand.  I admit I went through a phase in my early teens but had grown out of it before adulthood.  I am a normal man and appreciate beautiful women, I just rarely have the time to notice them.

Is that why it had taken me so long to notice her?  My wife had been under his nose his entire life. Then again why should he have noticed her.  She was his sister, his cousin…his friend.  She was family and he wasn't a pervert. Their relationship was odd anyway.  They were semi rivals so that had also probably blinded him to her beauty. Funny they had been friends…rivals then lovers.  Their courtship had been fairly painless. His wife rarely lied to herself and once it was obvious that they had feelings for each other she had given in quite easily. It was their marriage that had bumps.  You could call it a difference of opinion.  My wife does not bend easily and for that matter neither do I.  It had been a long battle, but I did not earn the title of head slayer for nothing.

AN: "Out of TIme is now complete! (side comment-I would just like to say I am extremely pissed as I had wrote all of Kohaku part proofed it and everything only to have my computer erase it and it not save on the disk either.  It was prefect and I tried to write most of it right after while I remembered but I was so pissed.  You can never write the same thing twice from scratch!!!  That said I think I got it pretty damn close.  Unless you are a writer who has had this happen to you, you have no clue how devastated and mad) I was. 1=refers to chapter 4 of “Out of Time” when twins were born Chikako was wrapped in green, Michiko in purple to tell them apart. 2=an important hint about Michiko that will be reveled as the whole story progresses. 3-Chap 1 of “Out of Time” how Kagome killed Naraku when he had Inuyasha in a similar grip, as Sesshoumaru had Chikako.  Kohaku refers to Chikako as his sister and cousin because as god siblings she is his sister and as Sango and Kagome being sisters then their children would be cousins.  All the children will refer to each other as sister or brother or cousin interchangeable, through out the fic. Also Chikako calls her parents mother and father while Michiko calls them mama and papa, this will help you tell them apart, this was also shown in “Out of time.” There will be lots of made up attacks and things throughout this story, I might use some originals I might not, go with the flow. Thanks for reading and reviewing
