Chapter 9
The kidnaped and the captor- Part 1
Sesshomaru watched his small group including the young miko who sat warily by the fire. It was unusual for him to go to such extremes, kidnaping a human was especially out of his usual. But he was desperate. Rin needed a woman around, he would admit that only to himself. He had heard her crying out for her momma in her restless state of sleep, and he could no longer bare the cries. Each night when she would call out, another part of his heart would soften. He needed to do something, if only to keep the ice around his heart from melting away.
So why exactly had he kidnaped the miko? He knew that Rin cared for her, and after watching Kagome with the kitsune, he realized if she could love a demon as family, she could surely love the ward of a demon just as much. In short, he was hoping that Kagome would fall in love with Rin and want to travel with them to take care of her. It was a long shot, of that he was certain, and considering how the wench felt about the half breed he had doubts.
But Sesshomaru knew of their troubles. He may not have cared that much for his brother, but Sesshomaru kept tabs on him all the same. Mostly he was making sure that no one killed his half brother before he got a chance.
His spy, a shadow demon by the name of Okito watched the couple from afar. He had been ordered that if he should spot trouble between the couple, that he swoop in and snatch Kagome. And so it was done. Okito had carried Kagome through the shadow realm, making sure there wasn’t a trace of her scent left behind for InuYasha to try to stop them.
And that’s how it all ended up with how things were now. Kagome would never know of his other motives, at least he would never willingly give them away. Rin was happily bouncing around the miko, showering her with flowers and talking up a storm. He had to admit he was rather pleased with Rin’s behavior. She was always bubbly, even when it was just himself and Jaken, but now she practically glowed.
Kagome also seemed at ease, given the circumstances. He had removed the binding on her hands and she was now sitting in front of the fire chatting away with Rin. She glanced over at Sesshomaru every once in a while offering a thin smile. It felt like this was an every day thing, she fit into the group without much effort, but with plenty of grumbling on Jaken’s part. He could hear Jaken mutter “Stupid dirty girl.....” whenever Kagome spoke.
“Jaken, come here please.” Sesshomaru spoke up, tiring of his grumbling. Jaken immediately rose to his feet and rushed to Sesshomaru’s side.
“Yes Lord Sesshomaru? Do you want me to rid us of the filth now?”
The taiyoukai leaned over and spoke quietly, but harshly him. “If you don’t shut your blubbering I’ll be forced to rip your tongue from your mouth and let you bleed to death in the process. I’ve already told you, while the half breed’s wench is with us, she will not be harmed. That also means you won’t subject her to your ranting.”
Jaken’s mouth went agape, his eyes staring indignantly at Sesshomaru. He could not believe what he was hearing. Was he really being told to treat the human as if she was decent enough to be in his master’s company? Why would the Lord of the Western Lands want to be associated with such a filthy creature? Rin he could understand...well sort of. But this woman was his half breed brother’s woman. Surely that meant she was trashier then most of the other humans.
Speechless, Jaken gave a nod in response, his face flushed a bright red in embarrassment for having been chastised. Instead of returning to his place by the fire, Jaken rushed off to find where Ah-Un had gone to. If he had to be subjected to the woman, he was going to keep his distance as much as possible.
Watching the frog demon rush off, Sesshomaru turned his attention back to Rin and Kagome. He could hear the two chatting back and forth, the conversation somewhat amusing to him.
“Kagome-sama, are you going to stay with us forever?”
A frown crossed over Kagome’s features, her head shaking from side to side. “No Rin, I don’t think so, but I’ll be here for a while. “
“So will you bathe with me Kagome-sama? Rin doesn’t like to bathe alone, and Lord Sesshomaru and Jaken say it isn’t proper for them to bathe with a little girl.”
With a blush, Kagome chuckled at the image of Sesshomaru and Jaken soaking in a hot spring with the little girl, both sharing the same red cheeked expression of embarrassment. “Sure Rin.” A soft sigh punctuated her remark. “Too bad I don’t have my bag, I have lots of soaps and shampoos we could have used.”
“Sham...poo?” Rin peered up at Kagome inquisitively, but passed off her ranting as none of her concern. “Lord Sesshomaru, Rin and Kagome-sama can go bathe?” Sesshomaru responded with a curt nod, and the two scurried off towards the hot springs.
Kagome was distraught, without all her towels and soaps bathing just wasn’t the same. If it weren’t for the little girl skipping behind her, she wouldn’t have bothered. What she didn’t notice was that Sesshomaru was following them in the shadows.
He averted his gaze as the two girls stripped of their clothing, but once he heard them splashing around in the water he began to watch them again. He told himself he was only watching them because he was making sure nothing happened, but the way his eyes lingered over Kagome said otherwise.
He was fascinated that a human had such flawless features. He had to admit he was quite impressed with how well she took care of herself. A lot about the woman interested him, and he was hoping that she would rub off on Rin.
While he sat there, he listened in on the two, shocked at the conversation that his Rin had started.
“Kagome-sama....what’s mating?”
Kagome gave a short snort in shock. “Well....I’m not sure that Lord Sesshomaru would want me to explain everything, but I can tell you something.” Pulling in a deep breath, Kagome leaned her head back and stared up into the sky as she spoke. “Well, when two people love each other, they usually want to spent the rest of their lives together. And well....mating is for demons. Marriage is for humans, it’s the same as mating. Marriage is the ceremony that you go bind yourself to the person you love.”
Rin remained silent for a while, contemplating this. She spoke up a few moments later. “What about a human and a demon? Do they get married, or do they mate?”
It was Kagome’s turn to be silent. The question made her think about InuYasha. If they were to be together, would they get married? Realizing that she had been quiet for too long, she responded to Rin’s question. “Well, I guess they could do both. If they wanted to be accepted by demons they would have to mate, and if they wanted to be accepted by humans they’d have a wedding. “
Rin sighed happily, a dreamy look on her face. “Rin can’t wait to get married.”
Kagome glanced at the little girl with a warm smile. “You know who you want to marry already Rin?”
Rin shook her head, but the dreamy expression held true. “No, but I can imagine him. He’ll be handsome like Lord Sesshomaru, and loyal like Jaken. He’ll shower me with flowers and he’ll carry me away on a white horse.”
Kagome chuckled quietly, she reached over and ruffled the little girls hair. “Well, when Prince Charming finally comes, make sure to invite me to the wedding. Rin nodded in response. “Of course Kagome-sama.”
“Well, I guess we should get out, before we turn all wrinkly.”
Rin nodded, and the two climbed out of the hot spring. Once they began dressing, Sesshomaru moved quickly back to where he had been sitting before the two left. Just as he returned to his spot and sat down, the girls had returned. He glanced to Rin, whose cheeks could have been compared to tomatoes. Kagome was also blushing, but not quite as deeply as Rin was. If he hadn’t known any better, they would have looked like they were guilty of something.
“Time to get some rest.” Sesshomaru spoke, his voice coming out with a light undertone of tension. He hadn’t realized the tightness in his throat. He had inadvertently caught a glimpse of Kagome naked when the two had climbed out of the hot spring, and now couldn’t face the young woman.
Kagome headed over to the fire where several blankets had been laid down for them to use. Rin however was looking frantically around. “Where’s Jaken?” She questioned, looking eagerly up at Sesshomaru.
“Jaken had an errand to run. He and Ah-Un will be back soon.”
As if on cue, the dragon and the frog flew into view above the group. In Jaken’s hand, he clutched a rather large yellow bag. Kagome glanced around at the sound Rin giggling happily. She followed the little girls gaze and caught sight of her back. Seeing the monstrous bag clutched in Jaken’s hand, Kagome gave a squeal in delight that would rival Rin’s.
“My bag!” Without hesitation the girl rushed over and snatched the bag out of Jaken’s hand. “Thank you so much Jaken!”
Jaken mumbled under his breath, but said nothing in return. Instead he curled up on the dragon’s back and went to sleep.
Holding her bag in her hand, Kagome frowned. She was glad to have her things, but knew that InuYasha would be able to track down Jaken’s and Ah-Un’s scent to track her down. She wasn’t ready to face him yet, she still needed time to figure out what she was going to say to him.
Catching the apprehensive look on Kagome’s face, Sesshomaru arched a brow in curiosity. “This bag does not please you?” He wasn’t sure why the girl wasn’t happy to have her belongings, he had thought that was what she had wanted earlier.
“Yes, but.....what about InuYasha? He’ll be able to follow their trail, won’t he?”
The taiyoukai snickered, his eyes turning away from Kagome to stare blankly off into the forest. “No, Jaken knows how to travel without being noticed. By the time the half breed catches their scents, we’ll have returned to the Western Lands.”
Kagome gave a slight nod then turned back to her bag. Digging through the contents she grinned, pulling several packs of ramen, and the small pot she carried to cook it in.
“Well then, how about I make everyone a before bed snack?”
Sesshomaru merely waved Kagome off in response. He refused to look at the girl unless absolutely necessary. Each time he tried, all he could picture was the sight of her naked body. What was surprising to him was the fact he found it to be a bit more pleasing then he wanted. Luckily for him, Kagome was heading over towards the small stream attached to the hot springs to get some water, Rin in tow.
He kept his ear out for the two, but did not move. He was wondering if this kidnaping was backfiring in his face. He had his motives, the main being to gain Tessaiga, the other was for Rin, but he had been trying to avoid thinking about the other reason. He shuddered at the thought. He had been expecting to dread making his move, but now it didn’t seem nearly as bad as he had imagined.
A smirk spread out over Sesshomaru’s lips. He might actually enjoy the last part of his plan after all. Hell, it wasn’t often he’d gain some pleasure, along with torturing his half brother in the process.
Pulled from his thoughts with the sound of Kagome and Rin’s return. Both chattering away, completely oblivious to what Sesshomaru was planning.
Yes, this is going to be fun. Sesshomaru thought to himself, turning around in his spot to face the two girls in front of the fire. He began to wonder where and when he should start, but his thoughts were soon ripped away from his plotting with the scent of what was cooking over the fire.
Curious about the smell, Sesshomaru got to his feet and strode over towards the fire. Craning his neck, he stared into the pot. His brow furrowed at the contents, having never quite seen anything like it. “What is that?” He didn’t want to ask, but his curiosity had gotten the better of him.
Kagome didn’t answer, instead she dug into her bag and pulled out a bowl. Dumping the contents of the pot into it, she handed it over to Sesshomaru with a mischievous grin. “Try it.”
He stood for the longest time staring at the bowl, not sure if he should take the offering. In the end his curiosity won out. Taking the bowl, he brought it to his lips and took a sip of the broth. The instant the liquid touched his tongue, he like InuYasha, was in love. Unlike his half brother, Sesshomaru at slowly, savoring each bite for as long as he could.
It took him forever to finish it off. By the time he had finished, both Rin and Kagome had been done for several minutes, and were munching on a few cookies that Kagome had stashed in her bag where InuYasha and Shippo couldn’t find them. They both looked up as Sesshomaru demanded more.
With a silent chuckle, Kagome rushed off to get more water, Rin following along behind her.
The demon could only sit and stare into his empty bowl, his mind racing. His plan was going to work better then even he had expected. He had a feeling that in a few weeks, and possibly days if Kagome had more ramen, he would have almost everything that he had been after.
InuYasha’s defeat was inevitable. Now all he had to do was sit back and enjoy.
