Chapter 8
Kidnapped....again...

Kagome felt herself slipping into darkness, yet she was completely awake. She knew that her hands and feet had been bound, and that she had been gagged after she had tried to scream, but she could not feel a blindfold. It had felt like she had sank into the depths of a dark pit. She could see nothing around her.

It took a while for her eyes to slowly adjust, but eventually the world around her came into focus. She was surrounded by a forest, but the forest was enwrapped completely in shadows. The sky was pitch black, and there was no sign of the sun or the moon. She could even see the movement of animals, but they too looked as if they had been enveloped in shadow.

“Eyyyyy! Et e oooo!!!” She mumbled around her gag, trying to get her captors to release her, or at least make their presence and motives known. But there was not a single sound. She knew she was slung over someone’s shoulders, but she had no idea who.

“Eyyy! Otta o ee!!!” Maybe if they thought she would release her bladder on them they might at least put her down. But there was no luck. Her kidnapper just kept on moving at the same pace. It was hopeless, she could only hope that InuYasha would be able to track her down and give this freak the butt kicking he deserved.

A pang of guilt hit her heart at the thought of InuYasha. She shouldn’t have run off like she had. She had known since the beginning that he had loved Kagome, she wasn’t sure why she was so surprised. He ran off after her every time they had encountered her or her soul gathers. The only reason that he even bothered to apologize to her was so she wouldn’t run back to her time and never return. How would he complete the Shikon no Tama then, and return Kikyo to life? Or was he going to go to hell with her? She knew she should wish him happiness, but she couldn’t deny how much it hurt her to know she had lost him.

Twisting around, Kagome tried to catch sight of her captor, but to no avail. She would have to wait until he set her down, or revealed himself. Instead of persisting to move around, she relaxed against the person’s back and let her mind dwell back to her and InuYasha’s conversation. She knew she should be fighting more, at least trying to escape, but the talk between the two of them had her so broken hearted, she could barely will herself to move.

Kagome cursed inwardly. She shouldn’t be hurt, she should have hardened her heart against InuYasha instead of allowing herself to fall deeper and deeper in love with him with each day. Now look where she was? It hurt to think, it hurt to breath, it hurt to do anything. Her heart wanted to stop, she could feel it’s heavy pounding against her ribs. The pain of losing InuYasha was indescribable. She wanted to die, she was hoping that maybe the kidnapper would grant her wish.

Time passed, just how much she wasn’t sure. They had been traveling for at least a few hours when Kagome finally let her wariness get the better of her. She fell asleep, slumping completely against the one carrying her.

She tried to fight off her dreams, knowing that InuYasha would haunt them. She wasn’t safe from him anywhere, he had made a permanent mark on her and now she would have to suffer through the rest of her life knowing what she would never have.

Her dream however, much to her surprise, was peaceful.

She was running in an unfamiliar field full of wildflowers. Above her the sun was shining in a cloudless bright blue sky. She stopped and turn to find someone standing in the distance, with their back towards her. She could see their long silver hair blowing in the breeze. Immediately she thought it was InuYasha and began to run towards him, but she was soon stopped by an unforseen force. She stood there, trying to fight against the force, until a voice began whispering in her ear.

“You will be with the one you love soon enough child, but you must not allow your pain to overcome you. You must be strong. Remember, what is left unheard is often the most important.”

Kagome contemplated what was said to her. She began to wonder if maybe the voice was talking about what had occurred earlier. Tilting her head to the side, she tried to remember what InuYasha had said, but realized that he hadn’t really said anything at all. Kagome had been the one who had said InuYasha was going to be with Kikyo, but InuYasha hadn’t contradicted her. Was she right, or was there something else that he had been trying to tell her?

Kagome looked back up to find InuYasha standing in front of her, wearing the same cocky smirk he always wore. “Well wench, are you ever going to let me talk? Or would you like to keep thinking you know what’s best for me?”

“Inu.....Yasha...?” Kagome reached out only to feel herself being pulled to him. Only she never quite made it that far. Just as she felt herself being pulled she awoke.

She opened her eyes quickly, but discovered that she was no longer in the shadowy place where she had been carried in. Now she was in a clearing, the sun shining brightly overhead. She blinked her eyes, letting them adjust to the brightness. She could sense she wasn’t alone, but the person who had been carrying her had vanished.

Kagome struggled to get to her feet, but she was still bound, leaving her wriggling around on the ground. She mumbled miserably, the gag still in place. After a few seconds of struggle, a familiar voice forced her movements to stop.

“I wouldn’t try to run away if I were you. This Sesshomaru does not wish you harm.”

Kagome froze in her spot, her eyes quickly moving towards the direction of the voice. She spotted Sesshomaru standing a few yards away from her, Jaken and Rin were not present. Furrowing her brow, she struggled to try and communicate with Sesshomaru, wanting to know why he had her kidnaped. “Mmt ew ew wan wif e?”

Sesshomaru stared down at the miko, his calm cool expression faltering for a moment. A puzzled look crossed over his face as he tried to piece together what she was asking. He gave up trying to translate. He stepped closer to her, just enough for him to reach down and cut the gag with his claw. Kagome breathed a sigh of relief, taking in a few deep breaths from her mouth.

“Thank you Lord Sesshomaru.” She smiled gratefully at him, almost completely forgetting for a moment that it was his fault that she had been gagged in the first place. Her smile was quickly replaced with a frown. “What do you want with me? You could have just asked me to come with you if you needed something.”

Sesshomaru glared down at the woman, his brow creasing in irritation. “This Sesshomaru does not ask humans for anything. You are nothing more then a bargaining chip for Tessaiga “ He knew he had been lying, there was other motives he had for having Kagome kidnaped, but he wouldn’t release that information to her.

“You will not be harmed miko, but this Sesshomaru will have Tessaiga, and until I do, you will remain with me.” Before Kagome could argue, Sesshomaru scooped her up and tossed her over his shoulder. “Ah-Un! Come forth!” The dragon quickly responded to Sesshomaru’s call, landing before the two of them. Sesshomaru climbed onto Ah-Un, but kept Kagome slung over his shoulders. “Take us to Jaken and Rin.” Without any further coaxing, Ah-Un took off and headed towards a valley where Jaken was dozing off in front of a fire, Rin just a few feet away humming to herself.

“Lord Sesshomaru, you’ve returned!” The little girl squealed with delight as Ah-Un landed. She ran towards the dragon, giving him a light pat on the head before skipping over to Sesshomaru. She looked curiously over at Kagome, her smile faltering. “Kagome-sama!” The child squealed once more, clapping her hands. “It is good to see you.”

“Good to see you as well Rin.” She smiled down at the little girl. “Lord Sesshomaru, could you put me down please? I promise that I won’t run.” She really didn’t want to run, she was glad in a way for the time away from InuYasha, relieved that she would have some peace in order to think things over. She had no doubt that InuYasha would try to come find her, but the question now was, did she want to go back with him?

Kagome remembered everything that was told to her in the dream, but she still held doubts. If what was said was true, why didn’t InuYasha just open his mouth like he normally did and tell her to shut up?

Sensing that Kagome was speaking the truth, Sesshomaru reached up and sliced the binding around her ankles, but left her hands bound. Setting Kagome gently down on her feet, he placed his hand on her back long enough for her to get her balance. Kagome struggled briefly as she was returned to her feet, then stood upright. Carefully she walked over to the fire and stood, afraid to sit down for fear she’d fall on her butt.

Jaken awoke with a start, his eyes moving to Kagome only to glare angrily in her direction. “My lord, you shouldn’t lower yourself to the likes of that half breed by bringing this filthy human with you. Would you like Jaken to take her into the forest and dispose of her?”

Kagome had never had the urge to kick someone in the butt as much as she did at that moment, but she refrained. Instead she smiled sweetly at Jaken. “Hello to you too Kermit. Any good lily pads around?”

Sesshomaru wasn’t sure what Kagome had just said, but he could tell from the tone of her voice that she was being sarcastic. “Enough Jaken. The miko will be taken care of while she is in our presence. She will be returned to the half breed when he hands over his sword, until then she will not be harmed.”

Jaken was about to argue, but he knew better. Nodding with a defeated sigh, Jaken settled back in his spot and began to doze again.

So what now? Kagome thought to herself, struggling to ease herself down to sit on the ground. Her eyes traveled over to the fire, staring intently into the bright orange flames as if searching for the meaning of life.

For now she would have to wait and see what Sesshomaru had planned. All she could do is pray that InuYasha would get there soon.
