Disclaimer: This story is my creation although the characters are not. I did not, create, nor do I own any characters of InuYasha, they belong to Rumiko Takahashi, I just happen to love them. This story is based, but not restricted by the show/movies. For entertainment purposes only. The songs Say it Right and Anywhere are also sadly not mine. They belong to Nelly Furtado and the most gorgeous voice of Amy Lee and Evanescence.

To Madmiko- He’s not wearing a sweat suit, like the Hanes kind of sweats, more like the Nike kind that most teenage guys wear, so it’s not as bad. Plus this is Sesshomaru, I’d imagine he’d make a Burger King uniform look good. =D

Thanks for all the reviews, it’s good to know that people are enjoying my story as much as I’m enjoying writing it. I should warn you all though, this chapter is going to have drug use (No, I don’t condone it, but I just had to mess with Sesshomaru even more then I already have.) and mild sexual content.

Chapter 15-
A dance with destiny

Kagome and Sesshomaru sat across from each other in a small booth. Kagome sipped at her soda watching Sesshomaru with his ice cream sundae. The journey to the ice cream shop had been a bit more traumatic for the taiyoukai then Kagome would have expected, so she decided to treat him to the to his ice cream before she ventured any further.

She had warned Sesshomaru as they left her house that if he could, he might want to decrease the sensitivity of his senses. Unfortunately that had been all she had warned him. Kagome blanched recalling Sesshomaru’s near face to headlight meeting with a car.

They had left the shrine with no incident. Sesshomaru was his usual overbearingly silent self. She caught herself glancing up at the inu-youkai from time to time, more to assure herself he was really there. He didn’t seem to notice her attention, or even acknowledge her presence. His golden eyes, which were usually devoid of any emotion, were now wide and full of curiosity. For the most part, he walked beside Kagome, thoroughly examining the sights.

The moment their feet had hit the sidewalk, the peace was broken. As soon as they were in plain view of those traveling down the street, they were greeted by the obnoxious honk of a horn. Following the horn was the sound of a woman screaming. “Hey baby, why don’t you ditch the prude and go for a ride with me?” Kagome normally would have waved the girl off without any further consideration, but she had forgotten to warn Sesshomaru about cars. She had turned to tell Sesshomaru to ignore the girl and just keep going, but the demon lord was no where to be found.

Searching for a moment, she found sniffing at the air with each vehicle that passed, a loud growl rising from the confines of his throat. It only took a few moments for the cars’ exhaust to reach his nose, and when it did Kagome began to regret bringing him outside. The scent attacked Sesshomaru’s nose, causing the poor guy to start hacking and sneezing. He reached up and buried his face with his sleeve, hoping to block off the scent completely, but even that didn’t seem to help.

Another loud growl began to rise from Sesshomaru, his eyes and brow narrowing into an angered scowl. “That beast just tried to poison this Sesshomaru.” he declared, dashing off after the next car to pass.

“Sesshomaru! Get back here, that’s just a car!”

Slipping her sandals off her feet, she charged after him, shouting as loud as she could to get the demon lords attention. When she finally managed to catch up with him, he was standing on the sidewalk at an intersection, his head jerking from side to side trying to figure out which of the monsters he was going to attack first. Luckily for him, Kagome reached him first, before he could jump in the middle of the busy street.

“Woah there hot rod, you don’t want to go running in front of one of those. “

Sesshomaru greeted Kagome with another scowl, golden eyes flashing in irritation. “Miko I would suggest you allow this Sesshomaru to tame a few of these monsters, lest they continue to devour you.”

Kagome stifled her laughter, his innocence was almost endearing. “Sesshomaru, they aren’t monsters, they’re cars. They how people get around now....sort of like horses. “ Encircling his wrist with her fingers, she tugged on his arm. “Come on, just stay next to me, I’ll explain everything that I can. Just don’t go running off like that again, you could get yourself hurt, or worse...”

Relenting, he allowed the miko to grasp his wrist and pull him away from the intersection and towards their destination. Kagome began to explain things to him as they walked. She would have perferred that he point things out and ask, but she knew better then to get her hopes up there The great Sesshomaru certainly wouldn’t stoop so low to ask a lowly human a question, even if he did need the explanation.

In the middle of her lessons, Kagome paused from her explanation to looked up at him, staring particularly long at his markings. “Hmm.....I forgot about your markings, but they’re easy to explain. If someone asks just tell them they’re tattoos”

“Tattoos?” Sesshomaru regarded her with an arched brow. Normally he would have argued with the miko, claiming that he would not be ashamed of his origin, but Kagome had explained to him that there were no youkai in her time, or at least none who made their presence known.

“Oh...a tattoo is sort of like your markings, except it’s done with needles and ink instead of people being born with them.”

After her explanation, the two walked in silence for the rest of the way, at least until the sweet scent of ice cream began waft towards Sesshomaru. Instantly his mouth began to water at the tantalizing scent. Without a word, he scooped Kagome up in his arms and ran full force towards the scent, leaving Kagome squealing in protest and writhing in his arms in attempts to free herself. “Sesshomaru! People don’t run around carrying other people. It’s not normal. Put me down!”

Sesshomaru grinned and placed her gingerly on her feet in front of the door to the ice cream shop. “Of course miko, we are here.” he said in what Kagome could have only assumed was a teasing voice.

Impatiently, Sesshomaru motioned for her to go inside. “Let us enter, miko.”

Relieved when Sesshomaru settled down as they entered the store, Kagome inhaled a sigh of relief but it was short lived. Once he approached the counter Kagome received a growl of impatience. Hurrying to his side, she watched as his eyes traveled over the many selections of ice cream in the display, Kagome could feel the taiyoukai impatience growing, but now with indecision. He could only recognize chocolate ice cream, and there were quite a few that looked similar. With so many choices, and his limited knowledge on the selections, Sesshomaru began to bombard the overwhelmed girl with questions.

Patiently, Kagome explained to him the different flavors, toppings and sundaes, but it did little to make up the inu-youkai’s mind. He wanted to try it all, but unfortunately for him, Kagome didn’t have the funds to grant his request. After several long minutes, he finally caved in and allowed Kagome to order for him. Relieved when he finally went to sit down at a booth, Kagome ordered a banana split for the anxious male and a soda for herself before joining him at the booth.

When his sundae finally arrived, Sesshomaru considered it with a scrutinizing stare, much to Kagome’s amusement. “Just eat it already!” she giggled at him.

“Miko...what is in this?” He recognized the fluffy white stuff, and the dark brown liquid, even the red thing at the top, but the rest was a mystery. There was white and pink ice cream, along with a light brown and red liquid drizzled over the top of them, that he didn’t recognize. It all smelled heavenly to him, but he wanted to be cautious.

“Well for one thing, you’re gonna have to stop calling me Miko and call me by my name. And for the next, it’s a banana split. See, this is vanilla and that’s strawberry ice cream, and it’s got whipped cream, chocolate, strawberry and caramel sauce, and underneath it is a banana.” She pointed out each thing to him, watching as he dipped his spoon into each and sampled a small bite.

With the explanation out of the way, Sesshomaru started to dig into the chocolate ice cream, making sure to get as much of the caramel and whipped cream into the bite as possible. The lids lowered over his eyes as delectable concoction melted in his mouth. He slouched visibly, and from Kagome could gather, his whole being seemed to relax. Amazed that the uptight control freak could be tamed with a simple ice cream sundae, she made a mental note to bribe the taiyoukai whenever he began to get on her nerves.

The process of his consumption of the frozen treat went pretty much the same way the first bite had. Had she known that Sesshomaru would take a half an hour to completely demolish the sundae, she would have insisted on leaving earlier. As it was, they arrived at the club a good ten minutes late. She could see her friends huddling together outside, each whispering and glancing at their watches.

They made their way to approached the group, she could already see almost every girl outside the club stare unabashedly at Sesshomaru. Almost every female they passed eyed him up like a steak in a soup kitchen. It was hard for her to ignore the hushed whispers, some were too low for her to hear, although she was sure that Sesshomaru could. If he did, he paid them no mind, opting to allow the mask of coolness to fall over his features.

Most of the girls were innocent in their stares and whispers, choosing to gossip with their friends and day dream about a night with the gorgeous creature. Others however weren’t happy to just sit idly by with their imagination. Those were the girls who Kagome could hear hissing behind her, whispering loud enough for the couple to hear. Two particular girls were betting which one would end up with him taking her home.

Some where along all the whispering and staring, Kagome felt a knot build up in her stomach. With every whisper the knot became tighter and tighter. She wasn’t sure what it was, whether she was nervous about how Sesshomaru would behave, or if it was something else. It wasn’t until one of the more braver girls approached him that she realized what it was. She was jealous. Why the emotion had crept up on her, that she didn’t know, but it was there and she was fighting it with everything she had in her.

The girl was taller then Kagome, and dressed in a white skirt that barely kept what should be covered, covered. Her shirt wasn’t much better, it was a spaghetti strapped black shirt cut at a slant. The slant started just barely below her left breast, and went down to cover a few inches below her right. Her midnight black hair was colored with purple and blue streaks, and cascaded down to the small of her back in a sea of perfectly tamed waves. Her full lips were glistening, curved into a flirting pout. Dark emerald eyes ran over Sesshomaru’s form, lingering on certain areas longer then others. She reminded Kagome of a shark circling it’s prey the way she approached, and the miko was forced to hold back her laughter.

The offending females inspected Kagome for a moment, trying to determine if she was a threat. She had obviously passed the younger girl off as nothing when she reached out and placed her small hand on Sesshomaru’s arm. The girl licked her lips seductively, still eyeing Sesshomaru up like a piece of meat. The pout was now replaced by a enticing grin.

Kagome pulled a breath as the girl began to whisper into Sesshomaru’s ear. Placing a hand on his shoulder, she offered an apologetic smile. She wasn’t surprised that the mask of coolness remained plastered on his face, in fact she was amused. Despite the unwavering expression, Kagome kept a close eye on his face, waiting for any subtle change that may warn her that he was about to strike the girl down. His face remained unaltered, but he did strike the girl down...just not literally.

“Wench, I have no intentions on ‘ditching’ my company, and certainly have no desire to get any sort of dance for you, especially not one at such close quarters as my lap. “ He hissed back in reply to the girls whispers, causing Kagome to snicker. “Now if you’ll remove your hand from my person, I’d suggest that you scurry back to the brothel in which you escaped from. This Sesshomaru does not pay for such services.”
Kagome could have died laughing had it not been for the girl’s glare. She was clearly not amused by the response she had gotten. The hoochie girl retreated away looking rather defeated, which only served to amuse Kagome even more. But before the girl could move out of ear shot, Sesshomaru turned to stare down at Kagome, the cold expression warming up a few degrees. “You were not lying when you said that the people here rutted with anything they wanted. That woman was implying that we should rut, and that if this Sesshomaru chose, you could join us.” he growled, loud enough for the girl to hear. “As if this Sesshomaru would lower himself to touch her, she smelled like at least two other men.”

Kagome flushed brightly, but lowered her head to stare at her shoes so that it was not noticed. “Yeah, I guess I should have warned you a bit more. You’re a good looking guy, girls are going to be all over you tonight...just try not to go ‘rutting’ with too many of them okay?”

Regarding Kagome with the famous arched brow he slide his long graceful fingers underneath her chin. Lifting her head up to meet his gaze, the two stared at each other silently. Kagome felt her heart flutter and the knot in her stomach tighten slightly. She would never admit to him that she was jealous, but she couldn’t deny it to herself. She recalled all the times Inuyasha snuck off to see Kikyo, but even at those time she hadn’t really felt jealous, at least not like this. She had mostly felt betrayed that Inuyasha couldn’t be honest with her. Now that the green eyed monster had truly stuck his head out, Kagome knew she would have to reassess her feelings.

“Kagome, I will not rut with common whores, that is far beneath me.” That was all that he would say on the subject, to her anyway. He knew who he wanted, and he was standing right in front of her. He had no idea how she had managed to do it, but somehow the miko had invaded his thoughts, his dreams and now his reality, making it impossible for him to think of anything else. His plan had backfired on him, and he didn’t even care. His previous goals now tossed aside, he had a new ambition, and this time he was determined to have his way. He would be patient, but he would have her.

Forcing himself to look away from Kagome, his gaze lifted over her head to watch the others who surrounded them. There was one couple in particular that had caught his interest. The couple in question were by the exterior wall of the building. The girl was leaning back against the wall, pulling the male against her. The male didn’t seem to notice, having been too preoccupied whispering and nibbling on the girls ear. They went on like that for a few moments until they began to kiss passionately. Sesshomaru nodded in their direction, a silver brow quirking upwards. “Are those two mated?”

Glancing over her shoulder, she followed his gaze to catch the objects of his attention. “Mated? Not here, this club is mostly for people under the legal drinking age, and that means they’re too young to get married without their parents agreeing. They’re probably just boyfriend and girlfriend.”

“Boyfriend and girlfriend?” Sesshomaru thought on this for several moments, and his conclusion only made Kagome sputter like an idiot. “You are a girlfriend to this Sesshomaru?” It made sense to him. They were friends, at least in his definition of the word they were. He was protecting her, they spoke to each other civilly, she was welcomed to his home, to him that made her a friend. And there was no denying the fact that she was a girl, that much was definitely obvious. So it only made sense to him that she was his girlfriend.

“Er...um.....eh.....well.....” She stuttered over her words, her mind trying to piece together whether he was asking her to be his girlfriend, of if he had come to the conclusion. Her heart began pound in her chest, and she felt unable to breathe. Sesshomaru considered her girlfriend material? Her mind began to scream that she was more then willing to be his girlfriend, but her heart warned her she needed to go over her feelings before she could make such a huge step. “Well, that would mean we’re in a relationship, and that we’re exclusive....you know, not seeing other people.”

“Hn.” The taiyoukai contemplated for a moment, still not quite understanding what Kagome was talking about. “Relationship? Like courting?”

“Er...something like that. You start dating, then if you really like someone you get into a relationship, then if that works out for a while you get engaged, then after you get engaged you get married...how humans mate...sort of.” She blushed brightly, peering up at him with an almost saddened expression. “To say you and I were girlfriend and boyfriend would mean that we were trying to...well it’d mean that we were serious and wanted to be together.”

Be together? Sesshomaru looked down at the miko, then thought it over a bit more. Weren’t they together now? How did she mean be together? Had she meant physically? Sesshomaru drew the only conclusion that he could, given his limited knowledge on the subject. “Well then, you are this Sesshomaru’s girlfriend.” The statement was punctuated by a nod.

Kagome didn’t have time to make a counter argument. Just as she opened her mouth to try and explain that she couldn’t be his girlfriend, her friends were rushing over squealing in joy. “Kagome!! It’s about time you showed up.” Eri bounced happily over to her friend, followed in suit by Yuka and Ayumi.

The girls all exchanged hugs, but Kagome knew that they were all glancing over her shoulder to the taiyoukai beside her. After their greeting, Kagome glanced up to Sesshomaru before turning back to her friends. “Guys, this is Sesshomaru....he’s a friend of the family’s. Sesshomaru, this is Eri, Ayumi and Yuka, they are my friends.”

Sesshomaru greeted them with a silent nod, but nothing else. His golden eyes ventured back to Kagome, his brow arched in question. “Are you not going to inform them that you are my girlfriend?”

If her cheeks could get any redder then they already were, they probably would have. For lack of words to reply, Kagome stood motionless doing her best imitation of a boiled lobster, she even had the expression to match it. Her friends fussed all over her, giggling and whispering to her in turn.

“He’s cute!” Eri chirped.

“What about Inuyasha?” Yuka questioned.

Ayumi grinned slyly as she asked. “Does he have a brother?”

Kagome groaned inwardly but kept the facade of a happy expression on her face. “How about we go inside already?”

She was relieved when Sesshomaru took her arm and ushered her inside the building, leaving her friends trailing behind them. “Thank you...” she mouthed as they stepped through the doorway, greeted by the blaring music and the chatter of the many patrons of the establishment. She could feel Sesshomaru flinch as the music reached them, and she gave his arm a reassuring squeeze.

Sesshomaru glared at the room before him, his eyes narrowed as he took in the whole scene. There were people everywhere, groups of girls, groups of males, couples. He was glad the Kagome had warned him about his senses, he would have been overwhelmed with everything that was going on in the huge room. He knew then that he was in for a long evening.

The room was rather large, but almost completely packed with people. There was a bar, but it was only used for people to eat, drink sodas or sit down and take a break from dancing. All along the walls of the room were cushioned benches for people to sit on. There were a few scattered tables and chairs, but they were mostly all taken. The center of the room was a huge dance floor, complete with huge five foot speakers, and a disco ball spinning over head. There were a lot of people dancing, mostly girls dancing together in groups, and a few couples who were grinding and gyrating all over each other.

Sesshomaru was at a loss. Was this how he was suppose to dance? He watched the males dancing with the women with his customary arched brow. It hardly looked like dancing to him at all, instead it more like some sort of obscene orgy. Would Kagome expect him to dance like that with her? His eyes moved from the dance floor to the giggling girl beside him. She was so innocent, how could he dance with her and not feel as if he was using her like she was his mistress? He was surprised that anyone who was innocent remained that way after leaving the dance floor. He leaned down to talk in Kagome’s ear, hoping she could hear him over the music. “Miko, is this your idea of a joke?”

Kagome glanced up to him, a cheshire cat grin on her face. “No, this is how people dance, but don’t worry, I won’t force you out there.” She turned to watch her friends push through the crowd to go dance, waving for Kagome to follow them. Holding up her finger, she gestured for them to give her a minute before turning back to Sesshomaru. “You don’t have to dance, but I’m gonna go dance with my friends. You can go sit down if you want, I’ll be fine. I’ll come find you after we’re done.”

The song had ended, and the DJ was welcoming everyone, and listing some of the songs he was going to be playing. Taking the opportunity to head to the dance floor while everyone was breaking away to get drinks or take a break, Kagome quickly caught up with her friends in time for the next song. The next song began to play and the four girls huddled together and began to dance, trying to talk over the music as they did.

“So Kagome, where’s your boyfriend?” teased Eri.

Ayumi chimed in with,“Yeah Kagome, why aren’t you dancing with him?”

Yuka was the only voice of reason, and in her mind Kagome blessed her a million times. “Come on guys, leave her alone and lets dance.”

Flashing Yuka with a dazzling smile, her eyes skimmed over the room to find Sesshomaru still standing where she had left him. He was standing as he usually did, the mask of coolness as she was beginning to refer to it back on his face. She considered going over and getting him to dance, but he had made it quite apparent that he didn’t like the way people danced, or at least that’s what she had thought.

“Oooooo! I love this song!” Eri broke into her thoughts, grabbing Kagome’s arm. “Come on dance with me!”

In the day
In the nightSay it right
Say it all
You either got it
Or you don't
You either stand or you fall
When your will is broken
When it slips from your hand
When there's no time for joking
There's a hole in the plan

The two girls broke away and began to dance with each other. (Not in a freaky way mind you. =P) Kagome kept glancing over at Sesshomaru, at least until Eri began teasing her about it.

“Afraid that sexy hunk of man is gonna run off?”

“No...he’s not from around here. I don’t want him to get scared off by this place.” Kagome responded, unable to hold back the nervous little chuckle that escaped her. She glanced back to Sesshomaru, a crease in her brow as she watched the girl from earlier approach Sesshomaru. She watched Sesshomaru ignore the girl, and now reassured, turned back to dance with her friend.

Sesshomaru glared daggers at the girl as she approached. He had vaguely recognized her scent, but was only able to do so because she smelt like several others and it was hard to tell which scent was her own natural one. He eyed her suspiciously, noting the cup that was in her hand and the over eager smile on her face.

“Hey there. I thought we might have gotten off to a bad start earlier, so I brought this as a peace offering.” She extended the cup to him, and Sesshomaru’s suspicions increase. He was about to refuse it, but the girl said something struck his normal sense of honor. “You wouldn’t refuse a peace offering would you? Come on, just take it.”

Sesshomaru took the cup from the girl with a curt nod of thanks. For a moment he just stared trying to figure out what the circular stick was in the center of the cup. His eyes traveled over the room to see if he could find out what he should do with it. After watching a few people he finally figured it out and soon brought the straw to his lips and took a small sip. He recognized the contents as the same drink Kagome’s mother had given him before, but there was a faint aftertaste. He passed the cause of the aftertaste off to the strange cup and drinking device.

“So, you want to dance?” The girl questioned. She was chewing on her lower lip to suppress a mischievous grin.

“I don’t think so. Especially when he’s about to dance with his girlfriend.” Kagome pushed past the girl and took Sesshomaru’s hand into her own. She was about to pull him to the dance floor when she felt herself being forced back by a rather hard tug on her hair.

“It’s not polite to interrupt little girl. Why don’t you go run off, I think I hear your mommy calling you.” The girl pulled even harder on Kagome’s hair, until she was just about to fall back onto the floor. Kagome closed her eyes and prepared for a butt-to-floor encounter, but was saved by the hand which she was still clinging to. Sesshomaru and the girl were now playing tug of war, Sesshomaru pulling on her arms and the girl tugging on her hair. Unfortunately for the girl, Sesshomaru was much stronger. With one strong tug, the girl went flying face down towards the floor, her grip on Kagome’s hair releasing so that she could use her hands to keep from falling completely on her face.

Once he was sure that Kagome was free of the wench, he straightened her out on her feet. He released her hand in order to wrap his arm around her waist. “Miko, are you unharmed?”

Kagome nodded, still shell shocked. Absently she snuggled in closer to him, her arms slipping around his waist. “I’m fine...just didn’t realize that you were gonna be so popular.”

Something resembling a playful grin played along Sesshomaru’s lips as he leaned down to whisper in her ear. “You would doubt this Sesshomaru’s appeal?”

Kagome blinked that the voice’s intrusion on her ear, shivering at the warm breath that flowed down her shoulder. She was so distracted by how close his lips were to her ear that it took her a moment to realize what he had said. “Was that a joke?” She glanced up at Sesshomaru, stifling a laugh.

“Indeed.” The grin had been replaced, but she could still detect glint of humor in his eyes. “Shall we dance?” He didn’t look at her, but out into the dance floor to the couples snuggling into each other. The music had changed, the song slower she assumed that he had noticed how the others were dancing and didn’t mind it.

Kagome nodded in reply and made to head towards the dance floor. Not even one step towards it and Kagome found herself nearly tripping over the empty cup Sesshomaru had discarded at her approach. Snatching it up, she tossed it in the trash and continued on her way to the dance floor, tugging Sesshomaru along behind her.

Dear my love, haven't you wanted to be with meAnd dear my love, haven't you longed to be freeI can't keep pretending that I don't even know youAnd at sweet night, you are my ownTake my hand

No sooner had their feet touched the wooden surface, Sesshomaru had her turned towards him, his arms securely around her waist. He pulled her tightly against him and began to follow the examples of the others, swaying slowly with the music. He tucked Kagome’s head under his chin and watched the other males around them interact with their females. A few were kissing, some whispering in their female’s ear, but all seemed to have their hands caressing their female’s backside.

We're leaving here tonight
There's no need to tell anyone
They'd only hold us down
So by the morning light
We'll be half way to anywhere
Where love is more than just your name

Believing this was customary for the dance, Sesshomaru allowed his hand to slide down Kagome’s lower back. He allowed his fingers to press into the softness of her behind, but was soon greeted with a squeak and a hiss from his partner. “Hands above the waist Fluffy, or you’ll be losing that one as well.”

I have dreamt of a place for you and I
No one knows who we are there
All I want is to give my life only to you
I've dreamt so long I cannot dream anymore
Let's run away, I'll take you there

If it was in him to blush he might have. Although he had been chastised, he still had the feeling of an explorer venturing into new territory. A thought scowl creased his brow, but the corners of his lips twitched upwards in attempt to form a grin. “My apologies Miko.”

We're leaving here tonight
There's no need to tell anyone
They'd only hold us down
So by the mornings lightWe'll be half way to anywhere
Where no one needs a reason

They fell into a comfortable silence, each lost to their own thoughts. Kagome dared a glance up at her dancing partner, her eyes sweeping over his face. She was surprised to find herself in the arms of a man who had attempted to kill her and her friends. Even more surprising was the fact that she was actually enjoying being there. After all, it wasn’t the first time, but it was the longest time he had held her.

She found herself wondering if he was actually softening up a bit, if maybe he was staring to gain at least just a little more respect for humans. She still couldn’t understand why he had kissed her. She was tempted to question him about it, but decided against it. Not that she had really minded the kiss, that wasn’t even a question. She had felt something behind it, whether it was lust or something far greater she was unsure. She didn’t really have anything to compare it to. The small kiss she had shared with Inuyasha felt like nothing more then lips pressing together, no real emotion behind it, at least not on his part.

Forget this life Come with meDon't look back you're safe nowUnlock your heartDrop your guardNo one's left to stop you

Sesshomaru looked down at the girl in his arms, a strange warmth flowing over his whole body. For the first time the taiyoukai felt uncomfortable with his emotions. There was something raging inside him, and he was at a complete loss. The feeling bared a close resemblance to how he felt when he was with Rin, but far more intense. He believed that it was the desire to protect her, just like he did with Rin, but it was different.

Forget this life Come with me
Don't look back you're safe now
Unlock your heart
Drop your guard
No one's left to stop you now

His heart felt lighter when Kagome was near, just her scent and her presence put him at ease. He also couldn’t deny the overwhelming feeling of lust that overcame him when he was this close to her, that was a feeling that he didn’t have for Rin, but it was still unwelcome. Never had he wanted to possess a woman in such a way. He blamed it on her innocence. But he knew it wasn’t just that. The way she smiled, the way her eyes lit up when she was happy, how she touched him, it would have turned him into a pile of mush if he hadn’t been so good at controlling his emotions.

The song came to a stop, and Kagome realized she didn’t want to pull away from him. Lifting her head up she smiled up at him, her arms remaining around him, but slack enough for him to move away if he wanted to. She waited for him to pull away, but was pleasantly surprised when he pulled her back against him. It would have been romantic, but there was something on Sesshomaru’s face that made her gasp. His usually clear golden eyes were glazed over in an unusual manner, but that wasn’t the strangest part. On his face he wore, without a hint of trying to suppress it...a smile! Not just a small smile, this smile was threatening to eat his whole face. Kagome felt chills go down her spine at that smile. She hadn’t feared him since she had been kidnaped, but at that moment she found herself terrified of him.

She calmed down however, when he spoke. His voice was slurred slightly, and his voice..his voice had an almost giddy tone about it. “You’re soft Miko. This Sesshomaru could use you in his bed to keep him company.” He snuggled against her, trapping her against his body with his arms.

Kagome gawked at the taiyoukai. She couldn’t figure out if he was complimenting her, or insulting her. Soft? In his bed? What had happened to Sesshomaru? Something wasn’t right, she just couldn’t figure out what. Was it the words to the song they had just danced to? Had it put him in romance mode? No, that wasn’t, that didn’t explain the glazed over look on his face.

Struggling to come to a conclusion, Kagome was distracted by lips moving along the side of her neck, and hands roaming, underneath her shirt and over her back. “Kagome, you’re softer then silk, and you taste better then ice cream.” The dazed inu-youkai whispered between kisses.

Fighting back the urge to cave in to the demon lord, Kagome gave him a light push on his chest, forcing him to straighten up and look at her. On her tip toes, Kagome stared intently into Sesshomaru’s face, trying to avoid his attempts to kiss her. She didn’t smell any alcohol on him, so she knew he wasn’t drunk. Other then that, she was at a loss.

“Sesshomaru, did you eat or drink anything?”

With a grin, the taiyoukai tried to nip at her neck. “Yes....but nothing as appealing as you Miko.”

Growling in frustration, she gave him a gentle shake, hoping to snap him out of whatever he was going through. Had the ice cream sundae done this to him? She knew it made him loopy, but this bad?

A hand on her backside forced her body against his, this time however she was made painfully aware of something pressing against her hip. “Miko, shall this Sesshomaru teach you things my dim witted half brother was too afraid to teach you?” Kagome gasped, her thoughts forced away once more by the invasion of his mouth on hers. She tried to force herself away, pushing against him to break the kiss, but the more she fought the tighter he held her. Surrendering to his mouth, she parted her lips only to have his tongue begin a thorough examination of her mouth.

His grip on her loosened with the kiss and once she was sure she could, she broke away stepping out of arms reach. “Sesshomaru! Snap out of it!”

Kagome felt her stomach give a twist at the look on his face. He looked hurt when she had pulled away. Surely she couldn’t be reading that right, it had to be the light playing tricks on her. She scrutinized his face, hoping that she had read wrong, but it was still there. In his eyes she could see raw pain, something she would have never believed the demon lord was capable of.

She automatically felt guilty, but she had no idea why. Why was he looking at her so sadly? Had it really bothered him that she pulled away? As if reading her mind, Sesshomaru leaned down to whisper in her ear. “Do not run from me Miko. I don’t understand what is happening, but I want you near me. Stay with this Sesshomaru....please? You will be taken care of and treated like the future Lady of the West should be treated.”

Future Lady of the West!?!?! Were her ears deceiving her? Was he proposing to her? No, she was hearing things, she had to be hearing things. “Sesshomaru...what are you asking me? Why are you saying this?” Her hand stole away from her side to brush against his forehead, searching for any sign of a fever. He didn’t have a fever, but she couldn’t deny there was something wrong with him. He looked so vulnerable...almost human.

Knowing she would never get the chance again, she took advantage of Sesshomaru’s new side. “Sesshomaru...are you saying you have feelings for me?”

His arm snaked around her waist once more, pulling her tight against him. “Miko, there is something there....this Sesshomaru does not understand what it is. I desire you. I want you near me so that I can look at you whenever I want to.” He paused and leaned in closer, whispering almost too softly for her to hear him. “This Sesshomaru wants you to look and act towards him the way you do the half breed.”

Kagome’s breath paused, her heart racing at the implication of his words. Was he trying to say he wanted her to love him? She knew the others had been aware of her feelings towards Inuyasha, but had she been so obvious that even Sesshomaru knew?

So entrapped with her thoughts, that Kagome didn’t notice Sesshomaru’s hand rubbing along her side until he reached the underside of her breast. “Woah there buddy!” She snapped, snatching his hand away from her person.

Sesshomaru just flashed her an innocent smile, his eyes still dazed like a mad person. Kagome was still trying to get to the bottom of his behaviour. She didn’t think it was the ice cream, he would have been acting weird way before now. So what could it be?

“Kagome? Are you two going to be making out all night, or are you going to come dance?” Eri shouted across the dance floor to her, snapping her from her thoughts.

Kagome couldn’t think about dancing, she had to get Sesshomaru out of here and back home. She was getting the feeling that somehow he had been drugged, but she couldn’t figure out for the life of her how, and with what. It wasn’t like she could take him to the hospital, they’d probably snatch him away and use him as a guinne pig.

Taking Sesshomaru’s hand, she moved towards her friends noticing that Sesshomaru was searching around the room, staring in fascination at everything he saw. “Everything is so pretty.” A giddy sounding Sesshomaru chirped. “Look miko, the light makes you look like an angel.”

Oh yeah, she thought, he’s gone. As she reached her friends, the three looked between Sesshomaru and Kagome, each with an arched brow. Something didn’t seem right, even to them.

“Look guys, I hate to leave so soon, but I think someone slipped something to Sesshomaru, he’s not acting right.” Kagome’s stern voice put a stop to any questions they might ask.

Sesshomaru for his part was being particularly distracting, taking Kagome’s momentary lack of focus on him to begin nuzzling into her neck. “She’s so pretty, and she tastes good too.” Sesshomaru managed to get out, despite his slurred speech.

“I think you’re right Kagome. I did see some girl hand him a cup, maybe she dropped something into it. You better take him to the hospital.” Yuka stated, her voice full of concern.

With wide eyes, Kagome stared at her friend. “Was she wearing a black shirt and white skirt?”

Eri chimed in, apparently having seen the girl hovering around Sesshomaru as well. “She was trampy looking, to say the least. Her boob was almost hanging out of her shirt!”

With a groan, Kagome glanced over her shoulder at Sesshomaru. He in turn stared back at her, a lopsided grin across his lips. She wondered if he would remember this after whatever he was given wore off. She was hoping she was miles away from him when he did, his wrath would be horrendous.

“Poor Sesshomaru. You better hurry and get him out of here Kagome, he might start molesting everyone in here.” Ayumi commented with an expression that clearly stated she wouldn’t have minded if he molested her.

Nodding in agreement, she waved to her friends and drug the poor delirious taiyoukai out the door. Hoping that the fresh air might help reduce the drugs hold on Sesshomaru’s mind, they walked towards the shrine. Kagome had to keep her distance from the demon lord, for each time she allowed him with in arms reach she found herself pressed up against him with his mouth wandering along her shoulders and neck.

She was relieved when they finally made it to the shrine. What should have only been a twenty minute walk had taken nearly forty five minutes. Sesshomaru was in no hurry to go anywhere, or do anything but accost Kagome whenever he thought she was distracted. As much as she enjoyed the attention, she would have preferred that it been willing and not a side effect.

To the best of her ability, Kagome tried to enter the house as silently as possible. Sesshomaru however, had other plans. Kagome ushered him in through the door, placing a finger against her lips to warn him. Her warning was ignored. Once Sesshomaru recognized where he was, he began shouting. “Mrs. Higurashi, chocolate ice cream for everyone! Let’s celebrate the new Lady of the West!”

With all the commotion, Kagome’s mother rushed out to them in a panic. She was shocked to see a rather agitated Kagome and an unusually lighthearted Sesshomaru.

“Kagome! I thought you said there was no alcohol at that club?” She eyed the taiyoukai curiously, noticing that he wasn’t staggering around, but his speech was slurred.

“There isn’t mom, I think someone slipped him something, but I don’t know what.”

A sigh of relief escaped her when Sesshomaru released his grip on her hand, it was short lived. Once he had let go of Kagome, he was rushing over to her mother, snatching both of her hands in his. “Mrs. Higurashi! Wonderful to see you.” He leaned down and planted two light kisses on the woman’s flushed cheeks.

Playing along, Kagome’s mother squeezed Sesshomaru’s hands with a wide smile. “Wonderful to see you as well Lord Sesshomaru. Would you like something to drink? Some tea perhaps?”

Nodding, he allowed the small woman to lead the way. “Of course, let us go celebrate the new Lady of the West! Forget the tea, ice cream for everyone!”

“Lady of the West?” Lifting a brow, she glanced over her shoulder to Kagome, who replied with a shrug.

“Of course. Your daughter will be the new Lady of the West. Let us celebrate!”

“Whatever you say Lord Sesshomaru, let me just get something for us to toast with.” Pulling her hands away from Sesshomaru, she rushed into the kitchen, calling out for Kagome.

Kagome followed in suit, casting a glance over her shoulder to make sure that Sesshomaru wasn’t following. To her surprise, the taiyoukai was leaning against the wall staring intently at his outstretched hand. Seeing him distracted she made a mad dash into the kitchen, coming to a screeching halt just before crashing into her mother. “What’s up mom?”

Mrs. Higurashi flashed her daughter a sly grin, holding up a small plastic bag full of herbs. “This should help with our problem, but he’ll be asleep for a few days.”

“What is it mom?” She gulped, watching her mother stir the contents of the bag into a mug of hot water.

“Nothing that will hurt him. It’s just and herb that will make him sleep allowing his body time to filter out the drug that’s in his system.” Mrs. Higurashi looked over at her daughter’s frowning face with a quiet sigh. “Don’t worry dear, he’ll be fine.” She offered a reassuring smile while pushing the mug into her hand. “Now go give this to your mate.” She grinned, teasing her daughter.

“Mom!” Kagome stomped off, leaving her mother to chuckle after her. Call it mother’s instinct, but she had the feeling that Sesshomaru meant what he had said, her daughter was going to be the Lady of the West. She wouldn’t mind at all if that was the case.

Turning her focus onto the mess in the kitchen, she began to tidy the room up. As she wiped the counter down with a clean sponge, her mind full of images of cute little dog eared grandchildren.

Notes: Alright, I edited this chapter, adding a bit and fixing a few problems. I was going to start on the next chapter, but there’s a few things missing that are putting me at a loss. So, instead of working on the chapter, I’m going to be writing up two one shots. One will be Sesshomaru’s drugged point of view, and what goes on after he falls asleep. The other is going to be Kagome’s point of view of what happens during Sesshomaru’s extended nap. That will help me slip into the mood for the next chapter, and leave you guys a little less lost in the dark. ^-^ Sesshomaru’s one shot will be called Into the restlessness of a wandering mind. Kagome’s one shot is going to be called The fight between the heart and the mind.
