The next morning Kagura, Kanna and Sayuri left the Western palace just after breakfast. They took with them: a letter, a list and a basket of food the cook Arikako had fixed for them to take.
The path Sayuri chose took them past the seal.
Kagura looked around it, puzzled. "Why are we here?"
"I sealed Inuyasha in here as punishment. Right now I needs must see True form," said Sayuri. She reached out her hand and placed it lightly on her seal. She gave a small pulse of her energy and then stepped back. "Inuyasha, however, is not the reason why we are here. The pups' father must know I go to the future so he might not worry."
Confused, Kagura asked," Is not Inuyasha the father? What exactly happened after Naraku died?"
"Later, Kagura."
As soon as Sayuri said this, she put her hands out before her and drew a ghostly outline with shimmering energy. She
stepped back as youkai leaked from under the wall to mingle with the silver energy. She watched silently but with an
almost eager air about her as the two swirled together. A skeleton formed. Skin clothed it and the a veil of light
hid it from view. A half minute later the veil tore, falling away to reveal a sight that astounded Kagura.
Before them stood a tall male. Like Inuyasha, he had a pair of ears atop his head. However, they were gold with black
tips. He had a single jaw-length section on his left and it was black. He stood five inches over six feet. Sapphire eyes that were more guarded than Kagome's looked out at them and his silver hair was as long as the hanyou's. He had two gold stripes running down each side. A blue crescent moon was on his forehead.
Sayuri extended a hand. Her wrist was grasped gently in clawed hands and the male pulled her toward him. For a silent
minute, he held her. Stepping back, he said, "You are going to the future?" He listened as she replied, "Ayhai. I
thought it was right that you knew. Should I get anything for you?"
"Keh. As if they would have anything this one would like," said the male. His voice was an oddly smooth tenor that had a baritone undertone. Then he said, "You might bring me something to do. You be safe. The one behind you is . . .Kagura?"
"Ayhai. Kagura, this is Inuyasha's true form. He is the father. He willnae bite."
"Come, wind witch. Unless you betray my heir's mother, I am no enemy."
At this, Kagura said, "I owe Obahime my life. How then can one who is willingly indebted betray the one that has helped them out? I would die before betraying her."
"Kagura of the wind, you are a noble spirit. Sayuri, it is good that she goes with you." Then looking at the infant, he asked, "May I?"
Sayuri nodded as she shifted Kanna to her right arm and then eased her arms away until only her hand rested on the infant girl's head. She saw Kanna stir and yawn as True form studied her. She glanced over at Kagura who was watching this stranger hold the babe. Then she looked back at Kanna to see her eyes were on her mother.
True form growled softly to get the infant's attention. Then he purred to her as he withdrew the cover wrapped around
her. He drew on his youkai next and wrapped this around her. He continued to purr as he let her hold his finger. He
looked at Sayuri again.
Sayuri saw his eyes were now unguarded and that they revealed his pride in knowing she was a loving onna, that she would raise their children in love and that she would respect him though they were not mates. She said nothing but in her eyes, the thankfulness she felt toward him, her silent promise to him and her respect for him was clearly seen. She again took Kanna into her arms and replaced the blanket around her.
True form bowed to her and stepped back behind the seal.
Sayuri and Kagura nodded their heads and continued on their way.
