Mother Higurashi closed the door and asked, "Is this Kanna?"
Sayuri nodded. "The two with me are Kagura and Sango. Will you hold the baby for me? I have a letter and a list for you from Kagome. Sesshomaru was just not quite ready to let her out of his sight. You should see them together. They are a perfect couple. She may come next time if this time goes well. Here you are." Then Sayuri took Kanna back into her arms and Mother Higurashi opened the scroll. She had a look of " this feels nostalgic" on her face which soon became a smile of relief as she read her daughter's words. She quickly slipped her daughter's list into her pocket. She passed the scroll to Grandfather Higurashi.
Sayuri stood and walked away from the kitchen just as Kanna woke. Humming softly, she nursed Kanna and then returned to eat supper with the family.
Even Sango was welcomed at the table. She was surprised by this for she had expected that she would be kept from the group. Then she had time to recall how Kagome was. 'These two are like one soul.' She was startled when another mind touched hers.
Sayuri had been listening to the thoughts of those around her. She heard Sango's and touched the slayer's mind.
Sango listened as the mind said, Kagome and I are one soul. The slayer was stunned by this. Her mind tried to understand this. It was hard to.
Mother Higurashi looked at Sayuri, a brow arched.
Sayuri nodded.
Mother Higurashi stood and went upstairs. She returned after a few minutes accompanied by a young girl. She stopped at the door.
Sayuri shifted Kanna in her arms and with a single hand, beckoned the girl forward. She knelt and laid her head on the child's shoulder. She sighed. Then she asked, "You know?"
The girl nodded. Then she spoke. "Sayuri, go to bed. Give Kanna to me. Kagura and I will tend to her until time for her to eat. Go rest. Mother Higurashi has a cup of lavender and chammomile tea just the way we drink it. Off you go. The morrow will bring the class together. Souta will let them know. Now go."
Sayuri nodded. Rising, she finished the food given her as she was hungry and tired. Then she drank the tea and went directly to sleep.
Sango had been watching and noticed that neither Sayuri or Kagome's mother had seemed surprise by the girl. She glanced at Kagura who seemed unsure of what to do.
"Nisayuri, are you ready for supper?" asked the Higurashi matriarch. The little girl nodded. Then she turned to Kagura who met her gaze. "Naraku gave you a fighting spirit in order to control you, but it is that mixed with the power of the wind that gave you the path to which Sayuri restored you. The part you play is more than as a companion or sister. There is one for you and he has waited a long time."
Sango stumbled back. 'This is starting to be too much.'
Nisayuri faced the slayer now. She looked into the brown orbs and her gray eyes took on their mirror-like appearance. "Sango, you have been wronged." She waited. Sango paused and then nodded. Lifting a defiant gaze, she said, "Yes. Sayuri and Kagome just do not understand. How can they? Neither have lost their little brother. Neither of them saw their best friend kill him and then laugh about it. Kagome killed Kohaku! Then she pretended to mourn for him with me."
Kagura gripped her fan. She wanted to throttle this slayer. (How dare she! That was Naraku.} The Wind witch looked at the child. She opened her mouth to say something, but the girl shook her head. She gave her a dismissive motion, but her eyes told her to stay. Nisayuri did not look at Kagura again that night. She returned her gaze to Sango's face.
