Choosing your Path:An Inu-Yasha tale

Chapter Nine:The Youkai awakens, and the jewel remains...



*The time since we last saw Inu-Yasha:Three days. And now, the Warring States era.*

"Miroku! Shippou, out of the way!" Sango yelled as she tossed her massive boomerang toward the Dragon demon that had made it's way to their camp. "HYAHH!" the Demom slayer yelled as she grabbed the boomerang back on it's return, only to see it had barely made a dent in the massive dragon's back. "Damn it.. what do we do now..?" she questioned. With Naraku dead, Miroku's Air Rip was far from able to be used.

"Sango, we must fall back!" the monk said as he grabbed the arm of the woman he loved and pulled her, but she wasn't willing to move. "Damn it, Sango, we can't beat this thing!"

"Sango! Come on!" Shippou yelled from atop Miroku's shoulder.

"No! If we let this thing run amuck it'll hurt others! If we must die fighting it, then so be it!" she yelled, preparing her boomerang once more. 'If Inu-Yasha were here.. he'd have taken this beast down with one swing of Tessaiga...' she thought, preparing to strike, but, like a blade of light two slashes came across the throat of the dragon, making it's head sever and fall to the ground. "Nani..?" Sango questioned in disbelief.

And as the dragon's form fell with it's head, the warrior who had defeated it came into view, descending from the ground and landing on his feet, turning to look at the two humans and the Kitsune Youkai. It plainly came to see who it was now. "SESSHOUMARU!!" Shippou yelled in shock.

"Inu-Yasha's brother.." Miroku seconded.

"Hmph.. so you are my brother's traveling companions..." Sesshoumaru said simply as Jyaken and the fifteen year old Rin came into view. (A/N:I figured I'd make her a decent age..and now she's Kagome's age!) "...I see why he left you, weaklings." Sesshoumaru said as he began walking away, then thought better of it. Reaching to the Youkai Dragon's left arm, he pulled it clean off and then moved it to the void of his left arm, taking it to use. The Dragon's arm instantly changed to a human-esque arm. "Rin, Jyaken.. we're leaving." the Youkai simply said, but as the three began to walk away, the Dragon's head slowly re-attatched itself, as if by magic. "..nani..?" Sesshoumaru questioned as he turned to look at the Dragon which now stood, save one left arm it apparently wanted back. But, then the Dragon Youkai sniffed the air, as if it smelled something more interesting. Leaping quickly forward it began making it's way toward Inu-Yasha forest...and more importantly, the well....

"We have to follow it!" Sango yelled and turned to Kirara. "Come on, Kirara!!!" she yelled to her firecat Youkai, who instantly transformed, allowing Sango and Miroku to climb on. "Sesshoumaru, I don't care if you come help us or not... but I'd think you'd at least be interested to find out where it's going!" and with that the two humans and the Kitsune Youkai were off on Kirara's back and after the Dragon.

"Jyaken, Rin, come." Sesshoumaru said as he quickly took off in a slow sprint.. which, for him, allowed him to pass Kirara in seconds.

"...he asks so much of us..." Rin said, shaking her head and began running as fast as she could after.

"Wait for me, m'lord and Rin!!!" Jyaken yelled wobbling his way after.

When Sesshoumaru and the others managed to catch up to the dragon, there it was, almost as if it fact had waited for them at the well. Then it turned to look at them, almost mockingly as it pushed itself down the well, shattering the actual well itself as it made it's way through, and then disappeared to the other side... to the modern era.

"NO! We're too late.. it got through.." Miroku said, lowering his head. "It's up to Inu-Yasha, without any Shikon shards, we cannot go through.."

"...I was able to before.. I shall again..." Sesshoumaru said. For some reason.. the Youkai wasn't going to just give up, and, with that he leapt down what was left of the well and, he too, made it to the other side.

"...so much for the well's former rules.." Miroku said as he and Shippou leapt down together, followed by Sango, Kirara, and Sesshoumaru's followers, who had NO clue what was going on.

*Higurashi Shrine, current day*

Inu-Yasha and Kagome stood in front of the sacred tree, hand in hand, both just staring at it at first. "It's funny... I never liked this damn tree.. but now, I don't mind it as much..." Inu-Yasha said as he looked up at it with his violet eyes. "So, Kagome.. what are we doing today? Another movie..?" he asked, still impressed by the last one they went to. Inu-Yasha had first thought they trapped a bunch of people in a painting.. but after Kagome explained it a few times, he got it.

"Well, I was thinking of going to take you shopping with me..." Kagome said and Inu-Yasha nearly facefaulted. "Not like my Mom made you shop.. don't worry. I only need a few things."

Just as Inu-Yasha was about to reply he sniffed the air. Good thing he wished to retain his Hanyou senses. "Kagome, go up to your room, get my Kimono and Tessaiga, toss them down here and get Souta, your Mom and Grandpa away..." he sternly said.

"But.. why?" Kagome asked in confusion, but then she sensed something that shocked her. "I sense the jewel.. but how..?"

"I smell Youkai..." Inu-Yasha said. "Now go!" Kagome quickly obeyed as Inu-Yasha slowly walked to the well, but as he was about to enter the building around it, a huge Dragon Youkai flew up, shattering the building and the well itself. "NANI!?! What the Hell is this?!?!" he said as he looked at the one armed dragon youkai. "I don't know how you got here...but I guess I'll just send you back.." But, as Inu-Yasha prepared to hold it off until Kagome brought him Tessaiga, there appeared Sesshoumaru, Jyaken, Rin, Miroku, Sango, and Shippou. "What the Hell are all of you doin' here!?!?!" Inu-Yasha yelled loudly.

"Inu..." Miroku began in confusion.

"..Yasha?" Sango completed.

"You guys act like you've never seen me before!!" Inu-Yasha yelled, then blinked. "Oh.. ya haven't seen my human side..." he said sweatdropping.

"Inu-Yasha, I got your Kimono and Tessaiga! He....re..? Sango, Miroku, Shippou!?!?" Kagome asked in shock as she brought Inu-Yasha his weapon and 'armor.'

Putting on his Kimono and sheathing Tessaiga to his side, he quickly pulled the blade and transformed the blade to the massive fang of his Father. "Well as long as you guys are here, why not be dead weights and help the Hell out!?!?" he questioned as he leapt forward and went downward to slash the Tessaiga down on the Dragon, but the blade was caught between the Youkai's massive fangs. "DAMN YOU!" Inu-Yasha yelled, but was quickly silenced by the Dragon's fist punching into Inu-Yasha's stomach and knocking him backward.

"Oh, no... INU-YASHA!" Kagome yelled. She hadn't gotten her bow from upstairs.. and if she ran now, by the time she got back down.. Inu-Yasha might be dead. "Sesshoumaru, Sango, Miroku, someone, save him!" she ordered angrily.

"...you attempt to order me...?" Sesshoumaru said simply.

"To Hell with him..come on Sango!" Miroku yelled as he ran at the Dragon and hit it as hard as he could with his staff, only to be tossed away like a rag doll, and Sango gaining about the same when she went to attack with her boomerang.

"...Inu-Yasha! I can see it, it's throat has...though I don't know how.. the Shikon no Tama!" Kagome yelled as she saw Inu-Yasha turn to her.

"All...right.." he said weakly. Trying to break the Tessaiga free, Inu-Yasha screamed when the Dragon bit down on his blade and broke it off, causing Inu-Yasha to fall to the ground and land roughly on his back. "Damn it all.." he muttered, staring in disbelief as the ultimate weapon was shattered. "DAMN YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Inu-Yasha said, tossing the blade away and going to strike at the dragon's throat with his claws, but was quickly knocked down to the cement as Miroku and Sango had been.

"It is up to me then... failures.." Sesshoumaru added. The might blade which he had wanted, made by Totousai, was now gone. But, he didn't need it's power. Sesshoumaru leapt silently and swiftly up to the beast, attacking it with a slashing attack, but, to the surprise of the other warriors, was also knocked down like a rag doll!! "...damn..." Sesshoumaru managed out as he landed on his back, hitting his head against the cement.

And so, Inu-Yasha slowly stood. "...I'm.. not going to let you.....kill any of the people here..." Inu-Yasha said as he stood, wearily facing the Dragon Youkai down. Suddenly, the Hanyou's blood burned as he stood. It was amazing, the sensation was that of pure power. His violet eyes glowed like blood itself, his anger awakening to the point where he couldn't take it. "I may be a human.. but I have the power of a Hanyou... and... with or without my blade, I won't let you kill my friends.. or the woman I love..." he said, taking up the broken Tessaiga and leaping forward toward the throat of the beast and slashing to where Kagome had told him she sensed the Shikon no Tama, cutting deep through the throat and then slicing the head completely off as the Shikon no Tama fell to the ground, and the Youkai fell dead, while Inu-Yasha fell backward, dropping the broken Tessaiga and groaning in pain. "Hehe..ya..ta..." he muttered. (A/N:Not sure if I spelled it right, but Ya ta means I did it..)

Kagome quickly ran to Inu-Yasha and knelt beside him. "Inu-Yasha.. you've never fought like that before.. you fought like a full Youkai..." she said almost shakily.

Sesshoumaru had also seen that. The now human Inu-Yasha had fought better than Sesshoumaru himself had ever fought, even with the Tessaiga at his side, and, Inu-Yasha had only been wielding the broken sword. It was..impossible.

"Kagome.. the jewel.. is it safe..?" Inu-Yasha asked weakly, and Kagome grabbed the Shikon and showed it to him. "Good... but.. how is it that it's still there..?"

Kagome then remembered something she'd been told. "Only.. if the jewel is purified fully will it be able to vanish from this world. When you made your wish it was purified enough to make it not appear in OUR world... but now it needs to purified once more to make it be gone from all worlds..." she said softly. Looking to Sango and Miroku, who had managed to get back up on their own, she knew her wish. Closing her hand around the Shikon no Tama she silently chanted her wish....
