Chapter Three: Invitation and The Balls

A/N: Yes I do realize this is similar to the last bit of Ella Enchanted but that was not how it was intended. I am just too lazy to fix it! I also know that Sesshomaru is extremely OOC but I don't care about how open he is in this story because Kikyo is partially OOC too. She wouldn't beat Kagome she would kill for the soul but since they both have their own souls I decided to make Kikyo the evil person because her character is good for both good and evil roles.

An invitation inviting the family to InuYasha's two wife-choosing balls arrived at Kagome and Sango's huts the next day. Kikyo had grabbed the letter and read it out. She was dancing around in joy now.

 

"He wants ME!" Kikyo squealed, "This is just a formality!"

 

Myoga sighed, "Kikyo dear go and order a dress for next week to wear to the ball."

 

Kikyo gasped, "You are so right father!" and with that she rushed off.

 

Kagome snuck down to the tailor that evening and asked if she could have some clothe and a mask. The tailor agreed because she loved Kagome like a daughter. Kagome went to Sango who already had a ball gown and Sango helped her make a gown. Sango and Kagome worked their fingers to the bone for days. Finally the dress was finished. One day before the ball.

Friday night, the night of the ball. Inuyasha glanced in the mirror. He was wearing a red kimono top and hakamas (his regular one) it had a white shirt underneath and he wore his sword the Tetsusaiga. Miroku wore his best purple monk's clothes. Sesshomaru wore his usual white kimono with his fluffy tail hanging over his left shoulder and his spiked armor over his right.

The ball...

 

The squire announced everyone as they entered. InuYasha stood in front of a long queue of ladies. They all had masks but they masks disappeared so Inuyasha could see the classic beauties.

Kagome took a deep breath and entered.

 

"How shall I announce the miss?" the squire asked her.

 

"Ummm...Please I don't wish to reveal my name as there is someone here who would beat me if I showed up." Kagome pleaded

 

"Then you shall be the Mysterious Lass!" the squire suggested. Kagome nodded

 

"ANNOUNCING…LADY MIDNIGHT!!" the squire announced. “So much for a quiet entrance,” Kagome muttered as she stepped into the splendid light of the ballroom and everyone seemed to stand still. Kagome walked slowly down the marble steps. Her dress had no sleeves and the bottom was cut in a diagonal line one part was just below the knee while the other side was around the middle of her thigh. The edge of the skirt had a ruffle and the color was a lovely shade of lavender at first but the color got darker towards the hem of the skirt. InuYasha strode past all the other maidens that were waiting in line and he went towards Kagome.

 

"My lady..."InuYasha whispered in her ear, "Please allow me to be blessed with your first dance."

 

Kagome nodded and blushed. Her mask only covered the space around her eyes and a little down the outer edges of each cheek so InuYasha saw the blush perfectly. He smiled and found her hand. They seemed made for each other. At the end of the ball Kagome tore away before InuYasha could ask her name.

 

'Who was that? 'InuYasha pondered, 'I hope she is at tomorrow's ball...'

Kagome rushed home and donned her regular torn, filthy rag rushed to the front door right before Kikyo entered.

 

"And only politeness kept him from spending the whole night with me..."Kikyo sighed at the end of her recollections of her dances with the young lord InuYasha.

 

'Liar.' Kagome thought, 'Well at least I get to see his handsome and hard yet kind face once more before fleeing to the mountains with Sango if she doesn't get proposed to by the monk Miroku...'

That night after Kikyo left Kagome quickly bathed in the river, put on the gown of the night before and then donning her mask.

"LADY MIDNIGHT!!!" the squire announced.

 

Kagome sighed again. Maybe she should have asked the squire to not say anything.

 

InuYasha once again met Kagome.

Nearing the end of the ball Kagome was enjoying the last dance she would ever have with InuYasha when she felt a tug at the back of her head on the tie at the back of her head.. She turned around to see Kikyo dance away clutching her mask and grinning. The grin faded when she saw the maiden. Kagome turned and looked InuYasha with tears in her eyes, "I'm sorry." was all she said before Kikyo's shriek broke the silence and Kagome took a run.

 

"KAGOME!?"

Kagome rushed and put her rag back on before grabbing the pack she had prepared many weeks ago. Sango was also there on Kirara. Kagome hopped on with her bow and arrows on her back. Suddenly horses came galloping up to the demon cat and her riders. InuYasha and Kikyo leapt off horses and watched.

 

"KAGOME I COMMAND YOU TO GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE!!!" Kikyo shrieked.

 

Kagome leapt off Kirara and tore off the necklace she always wore under her clothing. It was a chain attached to a round pink jewel. She placed it in InuYasha's hand and closed his fingers around it, "When you have the same feelings towards me as I have to you, come and find me. The Shikon will guide you." Kagome brushed her lips against InuYasha's cheek but he turned her head and kissed her on the lips fully. Kagome went slack before pulling away.

 

InuYasha smiled one of his smiles, "I already feel the same towards you."

 

Sango got off and joined Miroku who was standing beside his own horse. Kikyo was infuriated. She went up to Kagome and started to hit her. Kagome fell onto her knees. Blood trickled down the reopened cut on her cheek and a new one on her forehead. Before Kikyo could continue Kagome stood up, bow and arrows in hand, "Fuck....you...."were the last words Kagome ever spoke to her sister before killing her with a sacred arrow.

 

InuYasha picked up Kagome bridal style and put on the horse before climbing behind her. Miroku did the same with Sango but before they could ride back to the palace Miroku decided to slip his down, down, down...

 

"HENTAI, BAKA!!!!" Sango screamed, slapping Miroku then kissing the red mark her hand left. Sango and Miroku grinned. The companions were soon on their way to the palace.
