Circle of Betrayal

 

A/N: There are other fics that start the way this one does, but I hope my own unique twists on the story will keep peoples interest.

 

On Kagomes bed laid all the things she was going to put in her yellow back pack and bring back to the feudal era. There were clothes, a refilled first aid kit, cups of instant ramen, and bags of chips, candy for Shippo, her school books, toiletries and other odds and ends that she thought might be useful. Reverently Kagome added a special box. She smiled when she thought of what was inside it. On a whim she had gone lingerie shopping and bought something special to wear for InuYasha. It made her feel sexy and older than her barely eighteen years. I only hope he appreciates it, she thought. Ever since they had become lovers, she had to deal with the fact that he really had no grasp of romance. But she had not given up hope that she could change this. With a sigh she sat on the edge of the bed, and tossed her long hair out of her way, then started packing.

 

Miroku, Sango and Shippo waited anxiously by the well for Kagomes return. Kirara came out of the forest towards them.

 

“Is he?” said Sango.

 

The neko mewed an affirmative and she sighed, running a hand through her hair, and then looked up at Miroku.

 

“What are we going to do?” she said.

 

“There is nothing we can do,” he replied, “we can't keep covering for him. He created this mess, so he will just have to live with the consequences.”

 

“That stupid jerk!' said Shippo, “how can he hurt Kagome this way!”

 

Just then they saw a hand reach up and grasp the edge of the well.

 

“InuYasha?” they heard her say, “You there?”

 

Miroku and Sango moved to help her, grabbing her back pack and pulling her out.

 

“Where's InuYasha?” she said.

 

No one could look her in the eye, and no one responded to her question. Kagome got a sinking feeling inside.

 

“He's okay isn't he?” she said.

 

“Yes,” said Sango, “there is nothing wrong with him.”

 

“Then why didn't he come to meet me?”

 

Silence.

 

Kagomes eyes went round and her heart started to beat fast. No, no, he couldn't be. Not after all they had done, all they had said to one another.

 

“Sango, where is he.” She said.

 

The demon slayer sighed and shuffled from one foot to the other, then bowed her head.

 

“Kirara,” said Sango, “show her.”

 

The neko changed into its youkai form and Kagome shakily got up on her back. They took off in the air towards the forest. As Kagome gripped the nekos fur she thought, please, let it not be true, let this all be a bad dream. The neo began to descend, and she could see them before she got to the ground. InuYasha and Kikyo lay together, nude and kissing in obvious post coital ecstacy.

 

“InuYasha, how could you!” she screamed, and he jumped up and looked up at them.

 

“You no-good, two-timing, bastard! You just had to have your cake and eat it too! Well you'll get no more cake from me! I'm finished with you!”

 

“Kagome…”

 

“I don't want to hear it, not another word!”

 

“I…”

 

“Sit boy!”

 

InuYasha went slamming head first into the ground.

 

“Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit! Sit!”

 

Tears began to blur Kagomes vision.

 

“Kirara, take me away from here,” she said.

 

She left InuYasha deep in a hole and they flew away.

 

“Kirara, please don't bring me back to the others just yet,” she sobbed, “I can't bear dealing with their pity. Bring me down somewhere else.”

 

The neko landed deeper within the forest, and Kagome slid off her back, sobs of broken hearted pain coming from her uncontrollably. The neko changed back into its small form and tried to comfort her, rubbing its little head against her hand. As she lay there, a whirlwind appeared. It stopped in front of her and Kouga emerged.

 

“Kagome!' he said in shock, “what happened?'

 

All Kagome could do was sob louder. He got down on one knee in front of her.

 

“Is this that god damned mutt's fault?”

 

Kagome wailed.

 

“It is, isn't it? Bastard!' he said angrily, “Come with me.”

 

Kagpme picked up Kirara, and Kouga picked her up and whisked her away.
