Chapter Ten

March 13th, 4035

Ecstasy, thunderous waves bigger, higher, more monstrous than any ocean could ever dream to create, crashed through her veins. Dark hair plastered to sweaty skin, masculine hands smoothing up her spine then down over her hips, Kagome panted a moan as she rode to paradise. Warmth speared her abdomen, lashing her spine in decadent rapture.

She gasped, fingers curling.

The hard pectorals beneath her palm flexed as blunted nails sank in. Unforgiving, uncompromising, the physical manifestation of power was scorching to her fingertips. The hills and mounds lining his body, the strength humming below…

Unhooking her clawing grip, Kagome smoothed dampened hands down the fascinating muscles, then up again, before trailing over his equally hard his shoulders. She loved the way he felt, his firmness where she was soft, granite to her plush. He emphasized the difference between male and female and unintentionally uncovered a hidden facet of herself.

She found their power dynamic arousing.

Intoxicating.

Effortlessly, he could bend her, mold her, lift her like she weighed as much as a feather and handle her as though she were one. She could feel the iron clad restraint in his touch, the leashed force he held in check. The frightening power he’d temporarily given her the reigns to when he’d mounted her atop him. Shuddering bliss rolled through her body, while heavy pressure swelled in her tummy. She paused, eyes closing, limbs trembling in her concerted effort to absorb the sensations without being taking under.

Heady want pounded in her ears.

Familiar hands whispered along her outer thighs before sliding along their inner curve.

A tremor crawled up her back.

She hissed, arching her spine.

She fought, coasting the blasting heat exploding in her belly and holding the awaiting culmination back with every bit of determination she could muster.

It felt so good.

He felt so good.

In the dead of night, he’d roused her with tongue and hands, pounded her to orgasm twice then rolled to his back and placed her astride. A position she’d never been intimate in but found immensely satisfying. There was a power dynamic that was more psychological than physical. She sat atop him at his behest, and knew she’d lose in a tussle for dominance. He was stronger than her, quicker than her and certainly more experienced in hand to hand than she, and yet he lay passive between her thighs. Following the motions she dictated, fucking at the pace she set.

Erotic.

Intoxicating.

To have his strength leashed beneath her, to see him dance to her tune…

It was more power than she’d ever held at her dainty little fingers…

The sound startled her rather than the sting. Two palms landed hard on either buttock, ringing with an impatience he didn’t need to verbalize. She could see it in the steely glint of his eyes as her own widened gaze found his, felt it in the fingers sliding and pawing at the stinging flesh that was her rear end. He was panting, sucking in breaths harsher than her own, and the stripes lining his cheekbones sat serrated and jagged. The animal inside her was staring back at her. He swatted her again, then squeezed.

She trembled, surprised and mildly disconcerted to find the sensation served only to tie her stomach in knots. Pain had never been arousing to her, but that slight sting…

She rose and picked up her earlier writhing.

Up, down, slow and meticulous, working her body back to the brink she’d fled with devastating precision. Pleasure surged as she rode, coating her insides in a molten bliss that had to be illegal.

She felt…everything.

The soft caress of her dark tresses, the wet suction between their joined genitals, the sensual slide of sweat tracing her lower back.

Her lungs seized.

She stopped, overwhelmed. Shuddering on the edge of tumultuous ecstasy. The build up was lodged in the pit of her stomach, frightening in intensity, exhilarating beyond words. She wanted it…and didn’t.

Sesshomaru’s grunt rumbled from below. He moved, a quick motion easy to read.

She panted a moan when it came, shuddering as the dual slaps found her smarting bottom.

She could hear the silent command.

Faster.

More.

Her pace quickened, her lungs heaved, and the bed beneath them rocked. Her eyes rolled then closed. She was in that space again, dangling over the yawning precipice. Burning slowly and loving every second of it. She straightened, bearing her weight on the unyielding ridges comprising his abdomen as she bounced. His hips rose and fell between her thighs, aiding her journey to oblivion. She couldn’t run this time. It was coming…

That monstrous beast roiling in her belly would not be denied.

Cuei flooded, reinvigorating the need clawing beneath her skin. She rose and fell, desperation driving a wild cadence. Fast, hard, her measured rocking a distant memory. She gasped, delighted with the friction. Her stomach clenched, and liquid excitement coated her insides.

Sesshomaru hiss beneath her, raising his hips as hot moisture bathed both their sexes.

Heat, decadent heat and friction…

She quivered then took up a raunchy jaunt that had her thigh muscles burning with exertion. Kagome couldn’t care less. If toner thighs would get her to paradise, so be it. Up, down, swivel and back again, the wild cadence lined her body with terrible tension and blanked her mind.

She could taste his power inside her, each pump of her undulating body forcing that addicting aura deeper into her pores.

Big hands swallowed her jiggling breasts, their grip less than gentle.

Blinding scarlet bathed the walls of her bedroom, illuminating from her skin and telegraphing her impending doom. Coarse thumbs circled her nipples, sending spine tingling friction along sensitive nerve endings and tossing her over the edge in the process.

Convulsions wracked her body, as uncontrolled and unrestrained as the screams tearing from her throat.

Reality flared then narrowed, boiling down to nothing but her and the throes of orgasm. Trapping her with a quacking, arching storm she couldn’t even begin to find her way out of.

Gravity shifted, slinging her twitching form to the side.

Her sweat slick back found soft bed sheets. She was confused, her flustered mind struggling to keep up with the abrupt change of position. She need not have bothered. Hard flesh, burning with the intensity of a furnace pressed into the bed. Air whooshed between her lips.

He was heavy and fervent, kissing, suckling her lips, tonguing her mouth until her lungs screamed.

Rough hands captured her thighs, spreading and lifting. She barely had a second to breathe before he slid the entirety of his cock between her quivering walls. She squeaked, tossing her head as sensation skated her insides. Fresh from culmination, it was more than she could handle, more than any woman could stand she was sure. She mewled, distressed and aroused, latching onto his arms with clawed fingers. His retreat was just as devastating, dragging across her wet flesh, touching every spot that could feel good. He was back inside her before she could process it all. Excruciatingly slow, stomach droppingly deep, she sang a moan as he sheathed himself. Their groins met and reality ceased. She clung to him, hoping against hope to keep him still.

She couldn’t bear it.

One more leisurely in and out and she’d lose her damn mind.

Sesshomaru,” she wheezed, “don’t…”

Don’t leave her dangling on the edge.

Don’t leave the animal roaring beneath her skin.

Don’t drive her to madness with the measured thrust of his cock.

He paused but she couldn’t see him. Sweat clouded her vision, pleasure crossed her eyes, but it was enough. Enough time to…

What?

She wasn’t sure what, but she knew she needed time because this, this slow pound to madness was killing her. He bent and found her lips. She was too spent to mirror the tongue twirls.

Breathe.

All she could do was breathe between smacking smooches.

She could have wept when he began to move again. The pathetic whimper that left her throat couldn’t even begin to convey the agonized bliss holding her hostage as his sex left hers. Mind-numbingly slow, excruciatingly decadent, he curled her toes with each calculated inch he withdrew, and held her body dangling over a devastating peak. A storm built in the pit of her stomach. She stared up at the face hovering above hers, her wide eyes shocked and pleading.

Illuminated and shadowed by the crimson of her skin, her lover stared back. Golden eyes sharp, jagged stripes even sharper across cheekbones, Sesshomaru’s handsome visage was awash in dripping sweat and intense focus as he worked his hips.

Her lungs heaved. Panting, gasping for oxygen, she griped the sheets with damp fingers.

Satisfaction blazed.

He was doing it deliberately her chaotic mind realized. Toying with her physically, mentally. Plying her body with skillful accuracy, fully intending to drive her to insanity with every calculatingly sadistic strum of her nerve endings. Using his sluggish pace to leave her hanging indefinitely.

And he knew.

He knew she knew.

There was a curve, a slight, smug, upturn to his lips, a sudden amused sheen to his honey orbs. So engrossed, so indignant with his game was she that the soft touch of his roughened fingers startled her. He circled her navel, letting her feel the prickly drag his unsheathed claws created. She shivered, sucking in her tummy as he trailed lower. The pinprick of talons retreated long before his finger slid between the bare wet folds of her pussy.

The world slowed, time halted.

Breath abated, she waited for that devastating caress. She shuddered, tension tightening her limbs as he found the hot, slippery source of her throbbing ache.

She need not have worried about another form of slow torture. Quick and relentless, he stroked, circled and toyed with her clit just the way she needed. Orgasm reared its big, beautiful head, looming just below, waiting to swallow her whole.

She gasped.

Whimpered.

Contorted her body beneath writhing sensation as he fondled her. Thrumming cuei hummed to life, twisting and coiling and gathering under the confines of her skin. Charged, roaring vitality, the once familiar energy had evolved. An aphrodisiac, a sexually stimulating frequency that stroked heightening ecstasy to the brim and beyond.

She mewled, hurtling towards madness with each twirl of his finger.

It was coming. She could feel it, hurtling to the surface. Hot, sweaty and trembling she reached for it.

And was denied.

That determined finger, coated in the excited moisture of her sex vanished, and she found herself bereft and aching, her body making an unpleasantly abrupt decent. Strong forearms hooked her thighs. Delirious, she panted as he moved them both. A quick yank pulled her further down the cushy pillow behind her. Up and wide, Sesshomaru curled her legs to her chest, then spread them apart. He braced himself, hands at either side of her head, sealing her inside a cage of muscle.

Folded as she was, expanding her lungs was frighteningly difficult and as he squeezed his cock between her quivering walls, Kagome strained for every hitched breath the position allowed.

She didn’t know what she wanted more.

To draw a huge, stabilizing breath, or receive the mind melting pounding she was due oxygen be damned.

He sank into her, leaving her in little doubt which she wanted more.

Oxygen be damned.

“Oh God,” she whispered into the night.

Deep.

He was so damn deep.

Reaching places that shouldn’t exist, touching spots that felts so good she questioned the legality of it.

He moved again, stroking her moist insides, letting her feel every inch of his retreat.

Good lord not again!

She couldn’t handle it, that slow drag between her thighs. The leisurely glide through heated moisture, the horrendously delectable friction her desperately clinging pussy created. He was taking her apart, chipping away at her sanity piece by agonizing piece. She strained against his hold, impatient, needy.

She may as well have tried moving a mountain.

He pressed forward, returning to her weeping core with the hast befitting a snail. She was trembling by the time his groin met hers, sobbing in blissful frustration when he filled past her limits. He gave her a only a second to catch her breath before he retreated, beginning the agonizingly rapturous motion again..

Trapped beneath his weight, enduring a hellish nirvana was all she could do.

Her head twisted, eyes squeezing shut against the sweat dripping down her forehead, damp fingers gripping the sheets with all her might.

Her stomach curled, thunderclaps of pleasure echoed.

Her insides clenched, tightened then turned to mush.

It was too much.

Sweet release howled.

She exploded, coating his dick in moisture, the sound of wet flesh meeting wet flesh filling the room. Coherent thought fled, and soul shattering convulsions erupted. She reached for him, for the pounding, panting male between her legs throwing her into chaos. His skin was slippery, scorching. She gripped his forearms with shaking hands and held on for dear life.

Someone was screaming.

A female.

Hoarse and lusty.

In the throes of great ecstasy.

It was her, she realized distantly. Her shrieks filling the air, her voice giving vent to rapture.

The second wave hit her just as hard, barreling through her over-stimulated body. Bright cherry bloomed, blinding in its intensity, illuminating their entwined bodies. She was screaming again. She could feel the vibrations in her throat, could feel the words spilling from her lips. What she was saying she couldn’t fathom, the string of her incoherent babble was lost on her splintering psyche. The relentless, molten pounding between her thighs and the painfully blissful orgasmic parade all her chaotic mind could grasp.

Blunted nails scored his skin as her world spun out of control.

Her convulsing form shook, a combination of culmination and the hard lunges of a aroused male pushed to his sexual limit.

Gone was the slow glide of cock, in its place a wild, uninhibited fucking. His groin beat a quick tempo against hers, each wet collision satisfying, arousing to her ears. He looked like the animal she felt roaring inside of her. Magenta stripes jagged, lips pulled back from gleaming fangs, golden orbs radiating ferocity, he held the expression of a bloodthirsty beast in the throes of a ravenous feast. His broad chest rumbled, vibrating a feral growl she felt to her bones.

He was as out of control as she.

Driven to lust for her.

No longer holding the upper hand, no longer able to maintain the calculated pounding that had melted her brain.

They were equals.

Both desperate…

Aching…

Needing

Her back bowed, thoughts seizing to a screeching halt as he drove her body to brink again. Lost to lust she wrapped her arms around his neck, and pulled. Their lips met, melded together with sweet passion that quickly degraded. Tangled tongues, frantic suckling, their lips met in a frenzy, wet and fierce. She spun away, whipped away from their kiss to the tension in her belly snapping.

Kagome wailed her ecstasy, bracing herself against each ferocious lunge of his body. It was beyond pleasure, bordering on pain.

Pleasure, rapture epitomized.

He shuddered, breath leaving his chest in great bellows, the muscles beneath her clawing fingers stiffing as a low groan began deep in his throat. Thick arms tightened, enfolding her spasming tighter against his, plastering their groins together as she milked his cock in a series of contractions.

He was deep again, touching her place that made her damp body twitch.

Something warm unfurled inside her.

Quiet, maddening bliss seeped into nerve endings at their breaking point.

She hissed, nails embedding, scoring the moist flesh at his shoulders. She rocked as much as his heavy form would allow, hips grinding feverishly as she squeezed the last bit of pleasure her body could withstand.

It was shattering.

Bright stars filled her vision before fading to darkness…

Ragged breathing brought her back to reality. Short, hard exhalations that pierced the hushed silence. Her eyes opened sluggishly to ruby red melding into sapphire blue. It was blindingly radiant, her glowing skin. Bathing the walls and ceiling with her satisfaction. Boneless, exhausted and deeply sated, she was more than content to watch its brilliance from beneath the heavy, sweaty heaving above her.

He lay just as boneless as she felt. Buried nose first between her dark hair and sensitive neck, his slackened mouth blowing warm gusts of exertion along her nape. They were tangled, entwined, legs, arms, skin on skin. Molded as their cool, their singing sexes still joined.

He flexed, tensing beneath her limp arms, wringing a soft gasp from her lips. Sated though she was, the delicious thrust still felt.

As quick as the tension rose, it left him and he wilted. Tremors, subtle but unmistakable ran the length of his physique.

“Fuck.” he puffed.

The satisfied expletive was wrapped in moist air. It skated the shell of her ear and sent an involuntary shiver down her spine.

‘Fuck indeed.’ she thought dazedly.

They’d certainly accomplished that and to a degree she’d never thought to experience. Her whole body was humming. Her skin felt more vibrant than the light it emitted, her girly parts sang a tune her vibrator had never prompted and cuei churned through her veins with the potency of venom.

She was on cloud nine.

A gooey puddle of satisfaction.

Worry free in the aftermath of a most glorious joining.

Sesshomaru blew a last, calming breath before stirring. The heavy weight left her and she sucked in her first full breath since her decent into rapture. She deflated, her up drawn, noodle legs slipping slowly, uselessly to the bed. Propped up on strong forearms, he watched her less than graceful flop with a gleam in his eyes. Silver locks fell forward like a curtain, the gentle azure of her radiating skin glinting against the shiny strands.

Surrounded, cocooned in blue tinged silver and piercing gold, Kagome slid tender hands across her lover’s skin.

Closeness.

Companionship.

Connection.

It bloomed inside her, filling a space that had been left open and neglected. Maybe there had been some truth to Lyra’s prodding. Perhaps she had needed intimate physical contact more than she’d been willing to admit.

She felt…good.

She felt alive and exhilarated. Liberated and womanly.

Normal even.

Sex was normal. Something women her age indulged in regularly, something that occurred naturally. They had lovers. Boyfriends. Two relationships she had never really had time for until now. Extremely temporary though he may be, Kagome had a lover and it was as exciting as it was mind-boggling to believe. It was a rebellion against what her life had become, the life her pursuers had created for her. Tonight and in the early rays of morning, she’d set aside her burdens and taken back parts of the existence she was meant to live.

Who would have thought that Lyra’s booty call advice held credence?

Her lips curled.

She’d be damned if she admitted to her friend how right she’d been. Lyra was a sore loser and an even sorer winner. She’d rub it in deeper than lotion.

His head descended and thoughts of Lyra were whipped away. A slippery, slightly roughened tongue filled her mouth. He swept her moist cavern with relish before wandering down her neck.

Gentle suction peppered her flesh, accompanied by stomach tightening swirls of tongue.

They aroused and tickled.

When he found the dip between shoulder and neck couldn’t stifle a giggle. It bubbled between her lips and filled the sex scented room.

“You’re gonna leave a mark, quit it.” she complained halfheartedly, slapping his meaty bicep.

One hickey and she’d be the talk of the restaurant. All her co-workers and many of Rizek’s regular patrons, knew she had no man and wasn’t looking for one.

Nosy questions and lewd ribbing was the last thing she needed.

Lucky for her, he relented after a beat, but settled instead for a deep, searing kiss that sucked the air from her lungs. She pressed a stabling hand to his chest, her own lips trying to keep up. His kisses were the most consuming, exacting osculation she’d ever had the pleasure to experience. The briefest touch between their lips easily morphed from an expression of lust to a struggle for dominance. Each smooch and suck a demand for submission, every aggressive tongue sweep a bid to dictate the pace of their meeting mouths. Completely alien to the mutual power dynamic she was used to. It felt strange and overwhelming and yet layered in the sharp pangs of excitement.

A familiar and wholly annoying sound filled her mind. Pleasant chiming and digital numbers filled her internal system.

The first of two alarm clocks denoting work was immanent.

Damn.

She retreated, dampening the enthusiasm in her kiss and slowly adding distance between them. He followed briefly, nearly luring her back into the heated exchange as he ran his tongue over her lips, but she stilled herself, knowing taking a day off for a day of fucking probably wasn’t in her financial interest. He released her seconds later, heeding her silent cue and finally giving her a chance to breathe.

Her chest rose and fell, mashing her naked breasts to his chest with each inhalation.

“I have to get ready for work.” she murmured, wanting to make clear she hadn’t stopped from lack of interest.

Silence between.

Golden orbs traced her kiss swollen lips, the flicked down to the pale mounds who’s hardened peaks were pressed to his skin. He met her gaze once more, eyes glazed in hunger.

He wanted.

And so did she.

She wavered.

What was one day? Surely Rizek wouldn’t miss one single waitress for a measly 24 hours…right?

He shifted, rolling to his side, abruptly ending her indecision. Deflated and a tad disappointed, she watch him flop to his back, hoping to appease herself with a delicious eyeful. Stretched out amongst her pillows, her lover gave her exactly what she wanted. Nude peaks, chiseled hills, his prone musculature was enough to make her mouth water.

Cool air teased her nipples and other more sensitive areas, highlighting her own lack of clothing.

Blue orbs snapped to attentive amber.

While she’d been ogling him, he’d been silently lusting too.

Kagome felt her cheeks heat at the close study but made no move to cover herself as she slide from bed.

The trek from bed to bathroom felt longer than normal.

She felt exposed. Like she walked beneath a super powered microscope. He was watching her. Tracing the alluring dip and curve between hip and ribcage, watching the subtle bounce each step afforded her behind.

Absolutely outrageous.

When had she grown so bold? So lascivious to strut around in her birthday suit in plain sight of a male?

The door sliding closed behind her slowed the rapid, exited staccato in her chest. Alone for the first time in several orgasmic hours, Kagome pressed cool hands to her hot cheeks and willed rational thought to seep back into her brain.

It was harder than she thought to accomplish even with the distraction of Sesshomaru removed momentarily.

The satisfaction slamming through her veins couple with the delicious ache of Sesshomaru’s fervent and thorough possession created a reverberating echo she couldn’t ignore. She peered into the mirror that was suddenly there and wonder who the woman looking back at her. Delicious tenderness between her thighs, a warm throb in her breasts, masculine finger prints and nip painted on her skin. Was that really her, was she really that tousled, well sated female?

Kagome searched her reflection, noting the gentle blue hue radiating from her flesh, pausing at eerie glow still illuminating her eyes. With her raven strands mussed, marks of passion dotting her skin, and the far away, heavy lidded gaze of her eyes, she looked more like a sultry siren on the prowl for her next tumble than the ordinary waitress she usually saw.

The tangible vibrancy surround her body lent her an otherworldly aura she found a little unsettling.

What was it that had her lit up like a full moon in a sea of darkness?

Was it the cuei singing inside her?

Or the pulsing currents of energy coalescing from some indiscernible place within to the tingling tips of her very fingers?

Curious, seduced by the heated pump, she looked down at her hands. It was there, churning, writhing in her palms. She strained for it, coaxing the energy to gather. Silent moments of concentration stretched into minutes before she saw it. Blue orbs widened.

Little sparks glittered just above her outstretched palms.

They were tiny and round, tawny vibrant orbs that chimed a low frequency she felt deep in the recesses of her eardrums. Slowly, the centered, gravitating together. Goosebumps pebbled her skin. Trepidation and fascination expanded her already wide eyes to the size of dinner plates.

Was this cuei?

The spheres merged, their color deepening as they compressed. She felt each constriction like a thundering heartbeat and breathed through each shrinkage until a indigo, nearly ebony compact sphere danced in her hand. Like a dying candle, the once brightly lit bathroom began to darken and somewhere in her trance induced fixation, she realized it was the orb that was draining the room of light.

Blackout.

A complete absence of florescence plunged her into blindness.

She could hear the panic in each breath that heaved from her lungs, the sound made louder by the darkness. Deafening. Maddening. The inky box enveloping the bathroom was the stuff nightmares were made of.

Just as she tensed to move, to throw open the door in a bid for light, violet cut through the darkness.

Twinkling akin to a star, it illuminated the four walls.

She watched it with inquisitive suddenly heavy-lidded eyes.

That glow.

That sparkle.

Like a priceless jewel glittering beneath sunlight. It left her feeling…disconnected from her mind and body.

Almost euphoric.

Weightless and churning with tranquility. The cool tile beneath her feet no longer felt solid, her body no longer hindered by gravity.

The room fell away and she was floating within the violent hue.

Small spheres, much like the those that fused in her palm, winked into existence among the vastness surrounding her. They were beautiful and numerous. Millions upon millions of radiating orbs intertwined and interwoven by cuei, connected and linked through the violet strands and yet each beating to their own rhythms.

She could see everything, feel everything, time itself becoming tangible before her.

Drawn to the network of gleaming spheres, Kagome drifted to the closest coil. Hot energy lapped at her finger tips as reached out with a violet coated hand.

One touch…

Just one…

Closer she floated. Her breath hitched, anticipation clenching her belly.

She could see it…

A noise beyond the bathroom startled her, ripping her from the trance.

Cuei retreated, sucking up the darkness and flooding the room in blinding light. Dizziness roared to the forefront, sapping strength from her legs. She stumbled, and reached out shaking hands to the nearest solid surface. She panted, willing her struggling limbs to support her weight. She closed her eyes, took a breath and waited for the world to stop spinning.

The vertiginous wave of weakness passed quickly.

Back on firm footing and slumped against the wall, Kagome opened her eyes.

Normal.

No all consuming darkness, no glittering orbs, nothing but the four white walls that comprised her bathroom.

She straightened slowly, pushing from her impromptu crutch and moving gingerly to the bathroom door.

It opened a fraction when she reached it, enough to see her silver haired lover sitting on the edge of the bed, palpitating his band aid covered wound. She’d have thought him innocent, sworn he wasn’t up to anything suspicious, that the noise had been nothing, except that the green light behind his eyes was back when he glanced her way.

He was scanning her.

Again.

The amber eyes that moved over her body held none of the lustful gleam from earlier. No, this was cold assessment.

Open curiosity.

Hawkish observation.

“I heard a noise, you okay?” she asked, ignoring his invasive scrutiny.

He blinked, extinguishing the light, inclined his head and turned back to his wound.

Right.

Well, if he wasn’t going to start one of his nosy inquiries or tell her if the horizontal dance had upset his blaster wounds, she wasn’t going to push. She returned to the bathroom, closing the door with a soft hiss. Alone again with the silent bathroom and rippling cuei, Kagome rolled her neck and shoulders.

Licks of bliss closed her eyes.

Sucking in a breath, she stewed, savored the sensation.

Never had she felt this way before, never had she been swamped in so much vibrating energy.

It was intoxicating, bordering on addictive, this new territory she’d discovered. Caution dampened her enthrallment. She had no idea what had taken place in her bathroom, how dangerous it was, or who could detect spiked cuei.

Decadent though it may be, she would have to be careful with this new part of herself.

‘Record and analyze.’ she ordered her cybernetic processor.

‘Recording bodily functions and analyzing collected data.’ the computer confirmed.

Kagome moved to the far corner of the room, eyes roving over the shifting data in her mind’s eye as glass panels materialized and heated water pelted her skin. Her system, a grade above standard, had been tweaked to monitor her cuei.Over the years, the computer had compiled all its observations into a database of information, one she visited frequently in hopes of learning more about herself and the energy. She was sure that cuei was a type of energy, but what kind of energy, she had no clue. The only thing mother had told her about it was that it was…multifunctional, connected to several planes of existence, reality and dimensions.

A catalyst.

It was dangerous, is what it was.

She wasn’t naive enough not to realize that. To realize the people after her wanted access to the mysterious power.

What they planned to do with it, with her, is what frightened her the most.

Warm air blasted her dry, a puff of nano following. The glass panels slid into the floor as nanonites crawled over her skin. Khaki capris, short wedge sandals and a royal blue Rizek labeled polo shirt knitted over her naked body. The dark strands of her hair shifted, gathering in a waist long ponytail .

‘Cuei has exceeded standard levels and continues to rise. Warning; if current trends continue, cuei will become detectable to outside scans.’

‘Reroute cuei to storage.’

‘Rerouting.’

Kagome closed her eyes as the computer worked, the dizziness of earlier rushing back. Reaching out, she found a wall for support and locked her legs in a bid to stay upright. Long moments passed before the process ended.

‘Cuei has been contained.’

Kagome sighed, taking a moment to compose herself, then left the bathroom. Sesshomaru was sitting up in bed, back leaning against the headboard, his lap barely covered by the rumpled sheet, leaving delicious planes of his muscled chest and abdomen bare to her wandering eyes. Arousal stirred, her mind wandering back to the incredible sensation of his body joined with hers.

Her cheeks pinkened.

Reluctantly, her eyes left the tanned eye candy in favor of meeting his gaze. His amber eyes were sharp and shrewd, a precursor to an inquisition she was sure.

“I’m off to work,” she announced, hoping to nip the interrogation in the bud, “If you need anything while I’m gone you’re welcome to it.”

A slight inclination of his silver head. Vastly relived, Kagome turned, headed for the door. His voice stopped her.

“That energy, what is it?” he questioned smoothly.

Kagome stopped.

“Its composition somewhat resembles dark energy, however scan results return inconclusive.”

She turned quickly, both frightened and irritated with his probing, and yet as she fixed narrowed baby blues to his cool face, threads of curiosity rose.

Closely resembled?

What in the world did that mean?

“It’s none of your damn business, alright?” she burst, “It’s not something you need to be worried about, nor is it something I’m willing to talk about, and I’d appreciate it if you kept your scans to yourself.”

Ignoring the ominous look on his face, she turned and stomped from the room, heart pounding against her ribcage. She resented his scrutiny and feared his growing insight into a subject she herself knew little about. To have someone know more about her than she did, especially this male in particular, was a dangerous advantage she couldn’t afford anyone to have. If anyone was going to delve deeper and uncover what made her tick it was going to be her.

It had to be her.

‘Computer, analyze and compare negative energy to cuei.’ she commanded as she stormed indignantly through her apartment and out the door.

‘Running analysis.’

‘Negative energy.’ she mulled, strolling distractedly down the sidewalk and passed neighbors she knew by face but not name.

Or at least something like it.

It was a startling revelation.

Even more worrisome was the realization that her cuei levels were already detectable or somewhat visible to systems more advanced than standard programming if Sesshomaru was able to discern part of its composition a room away.

Worry churned in the pit of her stomach.

Worry, not just for her own safety but for Sota’s as well. So far, her younger sibling had yet to demonstrated the same power radiating from her being but when he was close to her, when she really focused, she could sense it inside him.

Faint but unmistakable.

She didn’t know if that meant he’d not develop the whisper any more than it was or if his energy was merely slow to mature. Either way, keeping track of his levels was just as important as monitoring her own.

She reached up and rubbed at the forming ache centered on her forehead.

What a mess.

Aggravated and worried, she reached out for her little brother. Her digital inquiry pinged…pinged…then pinged again. Nervous dread twisted her tummy into a pretzel.

Why wasn’t he answering?

The pinging stopped and the click denoting a message recording system was moments from initiating. Irritated fear drove her snappy disconnection and abrupt re-connection. The pining began anew. She cleared her apartment complex and was just skating panic when their lines finally connected.

His cheerful, “Hey, sis, what’s up?” snatched the “Why the hell didn’t you answer the first time I called?” right from her lips.

Warmth filled her chest.

That beloved, often times, cracking pubescent voice was the quickest way to deflate her righteous big sister fury. Swallowing the admonishment she’d planned, Kagome instead blew hushed relief through her lips. He was fine. Her sweet little brother’s casual greeting had brought her brain back online. Reason flooded her psyche, banishing chaotic thoughts in its wake and clearing a space for her to think.

It was early, Sota was on his way to school, probably chatting with friends on the way when she called. They’d been through this before and despite her finger wagging and annoyed harping, Sota did ignore answering her contact in favor of bantering with peers. It wasn’t a common occurrence, thank goodness, but he did forget he was anything but a normal kid sometimes and when he did, it only took a quick reminder for him to remember the dangers of a missed call.

She was over reacting she decided, rubbing at the frustration that wrinkled her forehead.

But could she be blamed for it?

After the…‘exciting’ start to her day, mainly the trance inducing power that’d sucked the light right out of her bathroom just minutes ago and the overwhelming passion that proceeded it, she’d wager being a little off kilter was more than appropriate. So she was a tiny bit panic prone this morning and maybe she was being a tad needy in seeking out her younger sibling, it was justified! She’d challenge any sane person to process either circumstance in a short amount of time and see how disconcerting it was, let alone both at once.

A familiar heaviness settled in her tummy.

Loathe as she was to admit it, the truth was, she was…scared.

Too many changes had come to pass, too many unfamiliar sensations were still saturating her nerve endings. The world suddenly seemed altered and she felt adrift within it confines, as though she’s inexplicably crossed a threshold into uncharted waters and she really, really needed an anchor to steady her within its peculiar tide. She needed comfort and familiarity, both of which she knew she’d find in Sota’s chipper chirp morning banter.

She just… needed to hear a familiar voice.

She and Sota would have to cut her some slack, just this once.

“Kagome? Is everything okay?”

The worried questioning snapped her back to reality. She jolted imperceptibly and reached for normalcy, no reason for both of them to be on edge.

“What’d I tell you about contact?” Kagome blustered, hopping the admonishment sounded like any other scolding she’d given.

Off putting morning or not, the little twerp was due for one.

“Oh yeah,” said twerp chuckled, “I was gonna answer but Icztr was telling me about this cool new game and…”

A gentle smile curled her lips as she listened to the long winded, excited drowning about a game she’d never heard of and didn’t care about. He was safe and happy and whether he knew it or not, making her feel as if she were too.

“My bad,” he finished, “sometimes I forget how important it is, since it’s been so calm for so long…but I did remember eventually though, that’s why I answered right away the second time.”

Kagome shook her head ruefully. As if that somehow absolved the first missed call.

“Yeah, you did,” she sighed dramatically, “and since you did, I’ve decided I’ll only ground you for two days instead of a week.”

“Awww,” he groaned midway through her proclamation, “come on! This is the first time I missed a call in like two years!”

“Hmmmm…”

“Come one,” her brother urged in his best puppy dog whine, “Pleeeease. I won’t miss another one. Promise.”

“Alright, but if it happens again it all over for you buddy.” she teased with a grin.

She hadn’t really been about to ground him in the first place, but he certainly didn’t need to know her threat had been an idle one.

“Phew,” he half laughed, half puffed.

Her smile faded.

“I’m serious though. We can’t afford slip ups. If we need to move it has to be quick. Ignoring a call to chat with friends…its dangerous Sota.”

He sobered in the pregnant silence that followed and his voice was soft. Chastened in a way the threat had not been able to elicit.

“I know. I’m sorry,” he apologized, sincerity and realization heavily coating each word, “it won’t happen again.”

Feeling bad but heartened that he grasp of the seriousness of their situation, Kagome strove for levity.

“You having a good time at Lyra’s?”

“Yeah,” he said, contrition leeching from his voice, “she cooks really weird food that tastes awesome and she’s got this awesome immersion movie system. We stay up and watch movies all the time and before you get all bent outta shape, no I don’t stay up all night and yes my homework is done before we watch anything.”

She could sense the eye roll in that last part. Somehow she doubted he was going to bed at the time she usually set for him.

“Sounds like fun. I’m glad your having a good time and keeping up with your school programming.

Another silent, exasperated eye roll.

“So what’s up?” he huffed instead, .

Kagome held back a chuckle she neared the public transport. Clearly he’d tired of discussing homework and bedtimes and to be honest, she hadn’t called just to tease him, though it did help soothe the slow simmering anxiety still churning in her tummy. She paid for the trip, stepped through and out onto a street. Joining the crowd of sidewalk walkers, she headed for Rizek.

Nagging and squabbling between siblings.

This she knew.

This was normal, comfortable.

Her smile dimmed, then vanished.

The opposite of her world.

“Just on my way to work,” she murmured somewhat somberly, “and thought I’d check up on you.”

“Check up on me?” he snorted, whipping away her damped mood in an instant.

It was her turn to roll her blue orbs skyward.

‘Here we go.’ she thought, amusement curling her lips.

“What am I, five?” the pseudo grown man on the end of her line questioned in a voice squeaking and cracking with the hormones accompanying puberty.

Yes, checking up on you. I swear,” she huffed, “ever since you reached double digits you think you’re an adult. You got a long way to go kiddo.”

Kagome’s smile widened, then dimmed.

“Even when you’re as old as me, I’ll still check on you.”

He was her little brother, one of the only two people she could call family. How could she not watch out for him? How could she not watch and worry over her precious sibling? She wasn’t joking. The two of them could be old and gray and still she’d see that little dark haired boy that needed his big sister.

“Seriously though,” she continued, stepping from the teleport and onto the street, “You doing okay? Nothing…weird going on? No strange people lurking around your school or near Lyra’s?”

There was a pregnant pause before he answered.

“No…Why? Did you see somebody? Is that the real reason you called?”

This time, she didn’t hesitate.

“No, nothing like that. Haven’t seen anything or heard in anything in so long the silence is making me kinda antsy.”

More silence, one filled with doubt.

“You sure?” he asked after a moment, “Because every time you ask me something like that we have to…move.”

‘Move.’

What an ordinary word for what they really did. Taking off in the dead of night with nothing but the clothes on their backs hardly qualified as ‘moving’.

“I haven’t been home in weeks. You’ve never sent me with Lyra this long. Something’s going on.”

Sesshomaru’s sharp golden orbs rose to her mind’s eye, pinkening her cheeks with both heat and guilt. Much, much more than what he though or needed to know had been going on in their home. Events that had driven her brother from his home. She hadn’t really stopped to think about that. So wrapped up in new found desire and familiar danger she’d not considered the possibility that Sota would be a homesick.

“I know I didn’t really explain why I sent you with Lyra, but its not what you’re probably thinking. No one’s after me and I’m not in any danger but I do need to handle a…situation and right now, Lyra’s house is the best place for you until I can sort things out.”

She frowned. It wasn’t a lie, more of a careful omission. Even so, it sat bitterly on her tongue.

“Just… give me a few more days, okay? I promise, once everything is settled, I’ll come pick you up and bring you home,” an ache bloomed in her chest as she continued, “For now, things are okay, I don’t think they know where we are but you know that can change in an instant. If we do have to pick up and…move again, then that’s what we’ll have to do. Its the only way we’ll be safe. If I could change that, you know I would, in a heartbeat but I can’t. I’m trying my best but sometimes its not-”

“It’s not that,” he interrupted, an echoing pain in his voice “I know we don’t have a choice, and I’m not complaining its just… I’m just…worried about you. Keeping us safe usually means keeping just me safe.”

Kagome let the silence stand as her answer. What could she say? It was true. She needn’t have worried about constructing a denial. Sota wasn’t done voicing his concerned grievances.

“You always leave me out of the important stuff and try to deal with it on your own to keep me out of danger but you’re the one their after. They go after you first and then me if they remember. We should worry about you being safe more than me.”

Another undeniable fact. Sota had always seemed to be a secondary target during their confrontations, but even so…

“Sota-”

“I don’t want you to get hurt,” he interrupted, “…and I don’t want you be taken away.”

The last, whispered fear, brought pain to her chest.

“So if we are in trouble, you gotta tell me. Don’t try to take care of it by yourself. You don’t have to send me away every time they show up. I’m not a child anymore, I can help too.”

Kagome sighed, heartened and worried by her little brother’s declaration. He was a child, in more ways than one and while she loved him forever and a day for his desire to shield her as she did him, it also settled cold dread in the pit of her stomach. Sota was everything to her and if anything ever happened to him, if those people, whoever the hell they were, ever got hold of him…

She didn’t even want to contemplate it.

“It’s nothing like that this time,” she told him, the half truth decidedly more palatable than it had been before, “and you’re right, you aren’t a child anymore but that doesn’t mean you’re ready to just jump out into the line of fire either. Having you try and confront these people is more dangerous to me than anything else. Knowing you’re somewhere safe and sound is more than enough help.”

“But-”

“However,” she continued, “I will concede that you need to be more aware of what’s happening and what to do to protect yourself if there’s ever a situation where you have to.”

Heartbreaking memories flooded her psyche. Fondness and grief softened her voice.

“Mother started teaching me how to fend for myself around your age, it well past time I started teaching you.”

Delaying it wouldn’t make him any safer. Child or not, Sota needed to know how to survive in case the worst did happen. She hadn’t wanted to, still didn’t, but she had to face the reality that she couldn’t protect him from everything. That she wasn’t stealing what little innocence he had by exposing him to the horrors of the world, but strengthening him for those ugly truths should he ever face them without her by his side.

“Really?” he twinkled hopefully.

She paused, physically and emotionally. Quiet, pierced by the noisy chatter and busy shuffle of the city people walking past her, settled over her. She watched them a beat, envying the uncomplicated lives she assumed they lived. Work, school, family and friends.

If only.

“Yeah,” she replied, reluctance and repugnance lining her shoulders, “but you have to promise me, everything I teach you is last resort. Last resort means there’s no me or Lyra to help you.”

“I promise.”

She closed her eyes against that painful affirmation. She hope it never came to that point.

“I’m not an idiot ya know.”

Her eyes opened abruptly, confusion blooming.

“What?”

“You’re all quiet and mopey. I’m thirteen now, I’m not a dumb little kid that’s gonna go out and get hurt just because you’re teaching me some stuff. I wanna help but I won’t be reckless. Everything you show me, it’ll be last resort.”

Some of the gloom receded.

“I promise.” he reiterate.

“Good,” she murmured, “I’m really glad you’re taking this serious. Its part of the reason I waited so long to do this. That and the fact that, up until this point, all I’ve ever wanted you to worry about is being a normal kid, you know. Your biggest worries should be finishing your education and being a tween, not… this.”

“Will you quit calling me that!” he fumed, “I’m thirteen!”

Of course he’d stopped listening as soon as the dreaded T-word made its appearance. She could just imagine his cute little face scrunched up in annoyed distaste. Kagome laughed, a layer of anxiety unfurling from her stomach.

“You’re barely a teenager.” she scoffed laughingly.

“Humph. Thirteen is thirteen. Once you get the teen on the end, its official.”

It was true, he was a teenager, but she was reluctant to let him sail off into that category quite yet. Selfish as it was, she wanted her little brother to stay little just a while longer. Besides, she knew his transition would only serve to add a whole host of new problems. It made her head ache just contemplating it all.

Puberty, girls, hormones and body changes.

Changes…

Amusement faded. She remembered, there was one other issue they hadn’t discussed. His cuei levels, while negligible, had been fluctuating since he’d become a tween. She wasn’t certain but she assumed these unstable levels would only increase and exacerbate with age, at least, that’s the way it had happened for her. Keeping tabs on that was a responsibility they both shared. Kagome didn’t have the military grade scanner Sesshomaru wielded. She could only measure his levels through the data his inner system collected and shared with her.

“Sota, have you had any spikes of cuei yet?”

“No, not yet.” he replied, sharing the data with her.

She glanced over it in her mind’s eye, studying the curving lines of the graph.

“It hasn’t really changed much at all,” she observed absently “Keep me posted, alright? I need you to tell me the moment it happens-”

“Yeah, yeah, I know.”

“I’m serious, you know how important-”

“I know, jeez sis, you’re such a nag.”

Standing just to the side of Rizek’s entrance, Kagome sighed silently. Sota always got really embarrassed when they talked about the changes he was going through whether in regards to cuei or puberty. She was dreading having ‘the talk’ with him. Who knows how he’d react if she broached any subject of maturity.

“And you’re a pain in the neck, but we work well together, ne?”

“Suuuure,” he chuckled, “That’s the school chime, gotta go.”

‘How convenient.’ she thought with a head shake.

“Alright, I’ll talk to you later.”

“Later.”

The connection dropped.

The doors of Rizek slid open. Feeling decidedly better than when she’d left the house, Kagome crossed the threshold.

Trilling laughter, low conversation and clinking silverware filled her ears as she navigated the dining area. It wasn’t too bad today. She saw some customers she adored and other she wouldn’t miss if they never came back. It seemed like the usual, another typical day waitressing at Rizek and yet…

Among the throng, something felt…wrong.

She felt like she walked beneath a spotlight. Watched and exposed in a way she hadn’t felt in a long time. A smattering of unease prickled the fine hairs at the nape of her neck. She glanced over customers, noting familiar and not so familiar faces, as she trekked to the kitchens.

None of the various visage seemed sinister nor did anyone appear to take undo interest in her as she passed.

Maybe there weren’t any threats lurking in her work place, and maybe yesterday’s fiasco was the source of her sudden unease but she couldn’t chalk the feeling up as mere paranoia.

The first rule mother had ever taught her, she remembered it well.

Always trust your instinct.

How could she share her survival knowledge with Sota if she didn’t live by it herself?

Something was amiss and she’d not be caught unaware when revealed itself. Tension lined her body, even as she smiled and wave to co-workers as move through the hot, busy kitchens. Instead of grabbing tiny device containing the holographic waitress tray, she opted for one of the aprons lining the walls near the washing station. Keeping a low profile and staying off the floor was probably for the best, at least for a few days.

If someone truly was planning to launch an attack, she wasn’t going to make herself an easy target by waiting tables so close to the entrance. She’d be a lot less visible and accessible working the kitchen should someone without her best intention at heart wander through the door.

‘We’ve uncovered some information, Xaltan,’ Delr’ik began, ‘A file, heavily encrypted and labeled‘Higurashi’, buried in the archives of the Gilrex database. We’ve yet to gain full access but from what little information we were able to obtain it appears that the girl and her brother are being pursued by more entities than just the Gilrex. Several organizations are offering a substantial reward for their capture.’

How very…interesting and unsurprising. This new development felt more like a confirmation than an enlightenment. He’d known weeks ago there was more to Kagome Higurashi.

‘Names.’ Sesshomaru prompted, closing his eyes as heated droplets of water pelted his skin.

He rolled his shoulders beneath the spray, soaking in the satisfaction radiating through his body. Last night, the spectacular sex had drained the nearly imperceptible tension that’d lined his shoulders since his crash landing, while the heated, early morning rutting had left him gluttonously sated, unusually relaxed and explosively energized. Power thrummed beneath his skin and the beast that lived within its confines was keenly stirred. Scorching, pulsing pheran pounded an intoxicating drumbeat through his veins that served only to heightened the euphoric fog that ensnared him.

His memory failed to recall a time he’d felt so good.

Outside of battle of course.

‘TinO Corp.’ Delr’ik continued, ‘A prominent intergalactic research facility stationed on New Saturn for one.’

A 3 dimensional diagram rose in his mind’s eye, projecting a replica of the towering, facility. Along side the structure, pertinent information sat highlighted and bold printed. The building resembled a prison more than a research lab. High metal walls lined with shock wire, AI sniper towers, and armed androids.

Sesshomaru scanned through the transmission, reading silently.

TinO Corp had been in operation for several centuries, specializing in the study of space and species splicing, with their latest interests geared towards energy, dark matter and the psychological capabilities of multiple beings across the universe.

Very interesting.

As Delr’ik transferred more details, Sesshomaru searched for his brother’s unique signal. Unsurprisingly, his little brother was somewhere deep in the recesses of the cosmos, and nearly out of contact range. It was several moments before he received a response. Whether it was due to distance and encryption or Inuyasha’s attempt to ignore his call yet again, he couldn’t be certain. Familiar with his younger sibling’s childish, and rebellious antics, he was more inclined to believe it was the latter rather than the former.

Inuyasha had established long ago that he harbored a death wish to be carried out by his older brother.

Why else would his tedious, loud mouthed sibling continue to provoke him?

Seconds later, his brother’s glaring face appeared, disrupting the image of TinO.

What?!” the half breed growled in greeting.

Half Xerian, half Voltrin, Inuyasha was product of their father’s affair with a Voltrin female from the planet Omakran. The bad-tempered male had inherited his father’s silver hair and amber eyes, but the fluffy gray ears atop his head were a trait of his mother’s genetic makeup.

Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes at the disrespectful tone.

“Watch you mouth.” he warned softly.

His sibling raised a dark brow, identical amber orbs gleaming in surprise, then mischief.

“That’s it?,” Inuyasha goaded, golden orbs gleaming with mirth, “no death threats? You must’ve got laid last night or something cause you’re in a really good mood if that’s all you have to say.”

Two days ago, the crude teasing would have elicited the death threat Inuyasha had been expecting. His initial loud mouth greeting alone would have been more than enough to rouse the older sibling’s irritation, but with Sesshomaru saturated in euphoria, he could quite find that aggravation Inuyasha usually invoked by virtue of breathing.

Even so, Inuyasha need not know that. Untouchable, physically and emotionally was his persona, and he’d maintain it even if he had to feign it to keep up appearances.

“The life support of your vessel is accessible from this location, Inuyasha.” he responded, mimicking the low thread of irritation that usually accompanied such a threat.

And it was just that, a threat, one he wouldn’t hesitate to carry out, but one that lacked the actual intent of fatality.

A curse of his breeding.

The Xerian people held their family in the highest esteem, and Sesshomaru was not exempt from that strongly held tradition. Xaltan though he might be, Sesshomaru was first and foremost Xerian, a title he wore with pride. Family, zalvan, was sacred to any Xerian of worth. A fact his little brother took advantage of. Killing his sibling was frowned upon, a betrayal of his House, of his pack, but beating his brother to a pulp or disabling his oxygen until he passed out was certainly on the table.

Skirmishes and scuffles for dominance were common among his people. For that he would be praised for, even if he dangle the half breed scarily close to death. It maintained his dignity and left just enough doubt about his intentions to terrify his brother back in line, though temporarily.

Inuyasha rolled his eyes, though his tone evened out.

Keh, what do you want now?

“Information.”

Sesshomaru uploaded the data he had so far, including the Higurashi file Delr’ik had unearthed. As annoying as he was, Inuyasha was an incredible hacker. Sesshomaru had yet to find a more nimble and effective gearhead. His skills were unmatched, his technique unique, his failures almost negligible.

Figures you’d be sending me more work.” Inuyasha grumbled.

Slouched in his seat, Inuyasha was quiet as he looked over the data, his sulking posture straightening as he read, eyes widening with interest. He leaned forward in his seat, a transparent keyboard forming beneath his clawed fingers. His fingers flew over the keys, honey eyes rapt on the screen in his mind’s eye.

Sesshomaru disconnected the line.

He recognized that intense look on his brother’s face.

He’d have answers soon.

If there was one thing Inuyasha could not resist, it was a challenge. In that respect, the two were alike. Challenges, obstacles, opposition. It was in their blood to confront each and every hurdle that stood between them and their ultimate goal. It was a powerful compulsion, a sirens call, one that neither brother were willing to deny.

‘Inuyasha will take over the Higurashi file,’ Sesshomaru informed the silent Delr’ik, ‘cc all incoming data to him.’

‘Of course, Xaltan.’

Sesshomaru dropped the line, stepping from the shower, clean and dry. Nanonites crawled over his skin, the microscopic droids morphing into a black shirt and dark trousers. He headed into living room. There were urgent tasks awaiting his attention and a pressing meeting to attend.

Sitting back on the couch he closed his eyes.

‘Virtual reality activated.’

The living room fell away, a wide, softly illuminated room appearing in its place. A large, elongated table dominated the room, individuals of several species and gender sat waiting, some present in the flesh, others, like him, virtually. Sesshomaru took his place at the head, opening a diagram of the weapon trade routes across vital solar systems. He wasted little time delegating duties to the leaders at the table while listening to the reports and concerns they communicated when prompted. A couple of hours later, he was satisfied business was operating as usual despite the heightened activity surrounding the dismantling of the Foxlings and the not so sneaky movements of the Gilrex.

Next order of business, solidify the agreement with the Saratuo.
