Fortunes Anyone?

“Do I have to do this? You know that this stuff is full of shit…” A girl around her early twenties sighed as her left wrist was grasped by her friend, herself being dragged along unwillingly.

“Aww, come on! You said that you'd go out with me on Sunday. Just like a girls' day out.” The other girl smiled, not bothering to stop for even an instance as she kept dragging her other friend around.

“Well that's because you said to me that we were going to the mall! This isn't in the same direction!” The girl raised her voice, trying to pull her wrist away, though failing as her wrist was turning a light shade of pink instead.

“I did say that, didn't I? Oh well, I guess I changed my mind at the last minute.” The second girl replied matter-of-factly.

“Rin?! You always do this…it makes me wonder why I'm still friends with you!”

“Aww…how could you say something like that? Plus we go to the mall practically every weekend, so why not try something new?”

“Because I actually want to enjoy some free time before the first semester starts!” The girl raised her voice again.

“Please, please. Don't yell. Anyway, you'll have plenty of free time! We've finally made it to the University of our dreams! Now's our time to start partying, meeting men, living alone…”

“You missed a few important factors…”

“Like what?” Rin turned her head in question.

“Oh, I don't know…actual important stuff like studying, making a career for ourselves, getting a steady job.” The girl sighed, seeming a bit annoyed at this point.

“Of course I know all that! But what is the point of going to college if you can't have a little fun along the way. Plus you're not one to talk, miss `I wanted to go to the mall and buy clothes'.” Rin giggled.

“Hey, I never said I wanted to the mall to buy some clothes. You added that part in.”

“Well am I lying?”

“No, I mean yes! I mean…wait a second…” The girl looked puzzled for a moment as she looked down beginning to think. Not realizing Rin had stopped walking, as the girl rammed her nose into Rin's back. “Ough…”
“Ok, Kagome! We're here!” Rin said with a huge grin looking up at the plain purple sign that hung above a tiny shop.

Kagome looked over at Rin and then moved her own eyesight to where hers lay. “House of Fortunes.” Kagome read the sign, and looked a bit confused. “You brought us to a fortune cookie joint? What was the point of that?”

Rin slapped the back of Kagome's head. “And you call me dense? It's not a fortune cookie place, we're at a Psychic.”

“A Psychic? You've got to be kidding me…who in their right mind would go to a Psychic?”

“I'm nervous, and I want to see how things will go in first semester.”

“So, you want to ask a Psychic? A person who knows nothing about you, a complete stranger?”

“Well who better to ask then a stranger? Better yet a stranger who knows the future!” Rin gave another smile towards her friend as she made her way into the tiny shop, the bell giving a little jingle as Rin had creaked open the door.

Kagome sighed and brushed the strands of hair that fell in front of her face to the side, slouching in her walk as she slowly followed behind her friend into the `House of Fortunes'. Rin waved her hand up, telling Kagome to hurry once she had stepped into the small shop, the young adult making her way past a dark purple curtain in the back that was covered in small torn holes.

“Ugh…this place looks like a dump…” Kagome gazed around as she looked at the setting, seeing beads hanging off a small brown desk before a couple feet in front of the curtain. Pictures of eyes and hypnotizing wheels adorned the walls. Tarot cards lay scattered over the blue carpeted floor, as Kagome finished making her way to the curtain and into a tinier room placed in the back.

“Come here, child.” An elderly woman was slouched in her seat covered in multiple colors of garments. Kagome just rolled her eyes as she looked over at the empty seat next to Rin. Kagome took a seat in the empty chair and placed one of her elbows down on the small table separated the two young adults and the elderly Psychic.

“So, who would like to have their fortune read first? How about you young lady?” The woman said in a sore voice, pointing a bony finger to Rin as she jumped up in her seat.

“Oh…yeah…um, sure…” Rin nodded her head as she spoke and lifted her hands that were dangling down to rest on the table. The elderly woman taking a hold of Rin's right hand in her own.

“So tell me child, you are nervous. Are you not?” The woman asked gazing to the floor.

“Oh…yes…I am I guess…” Rin replied.
“Well it seems you're nervous about something…something coming up, I presume?”

`Man this woman is full of it.' Kagome thought in her head as she watched the woman trace her fingers over Rin's right palm as everyone just stayed silent, the only one speaking being the Psychic.

“Well there is no need to be nervous my dear, quite the contrary.” The psychic let out a small laugh. “It seems that there is some good luck headed your way in the future.”

“Good luck, like what? What type of good luck?” Rin asked, sounding a bit anxious.

“Hmm…from what I can tell you're going to meet some people who will be very special to you. You will experience many emotions, however, for a particular man.” The woman continued as Rin's face got red in a blush. “Though you may experience many emotions with this man, not all of them will be good, and with love, nothing comes that easy. However, in school you'll be just fine, you may slouch in your studies a bit, but you'll pull out fine.” The woman lifted up her head and gave a small smile, releasing Rin's hand from her own.

“Now, it looks like it is your turn.” The woman turned her head towards Kagome who looked almost half asleep at this point. Kagome just threw her hand forward, as the woman just laughed a bit, taking a hold of Kagome's young hand in her old.

“Feisty aren't we?” The old woman started off as she felt her fingers over Kagome's palm, the young adult just letting out a sigh and looking over at Rin who just held her right hand in her left.

“So, it seems you've had some trouble in the past. With a bit of family stress and oh, a boyfriend I see? My, my…” The woman kept her head down just as she had done with Rin, getting Kagome a bit angry at her response already.

“Excuse me, the sooner we get this over with, the better.” Kagome said in a bit of a harsher tone in her voice.

“Ok, child, we will continue.” The old woman concentrated for a minute or two before speaking. “Hmm, you are a bit more difficult to read, it seems you don't like too many people getting close to you.”

“What do you mean? I get along with others great!”

“That isn't what I mean, dear…” The woman paused again for a moment, keeping her head down and staying in the same position. “…well it seems your good at studying, but there'll be times where school will be difficult for you, but it seems that you'll pull through that just fine. Now…hmm…it seems you're going to grow close to some people, but there'll be one person you're going to grow especially fond of.” The old woman laughed. “Especially fond of indeed, he seems like a cute boy, a bit stubborn, but cute none-the-less.”

“He? Guys are full of themselves usually…I don't see why I would grow close to one.” Kagome turned her head away as she spoke.

“Well, I guess we'll get off that topic and move on. Now it seems you're going to have some reencounters with some people as well as one person you'll meet that you won't grow particular fond of, actually I guess you make two people. I can't tell whether that'll be good or not, but my best advice is that it'll be part of growing up still.”

The woman let out a sigh and let go of Kagome's hand, slouching back in her seat and looking up to the two girls.

“Well thank you for your time ladies, do visit here again.” The woman said as she waved her hand towards the exit.

“Though it wasn't my choice to come here.” Kagome glanced over at Rin for a moment. “What do we owe you?”

“Oh, that is quite alright. The first visit is free, after that I don't charge much.”

“Well we might not come back so are you sure?” Kagome pulled out some yen from her purse and waved it in front of the old Psychic.

The woman laughed and just waved her hand as a `no thanks' for a respond.

“Whatever. Rin you ready to go?” Kagome said as she placed the yen back into her purse. Rin standing up and bowing in front of the Psychic.

“Thank you.” Rin said as both she and Kagome made there way out of the shop.

“See you again.” The old woman said waving as the girls left, until footsteps couldn't be heard any longer.
