Chapter 1

Feudal Japan was really starting to grate on her nerves. Why'd Nibori have to choose this fucking place and time period for his new hiding place? Tracking him back through time had been hard enough. Finding his exact location had be damn near impossible. And now she was putting her very life in the hands of some evil, sadistic hanyou whose favorite past time was destroying the lives of others. She was starting to think this might have been a bad idea.

The most annoying thing of all was having to stay in this old shabby hut. Aaliyah'd stumbled upon it during a rainstorm and decided to use it for shelter. During the storm, though, half the roof had collapsed, nearly crushing her in the process. It wasn't a very good shelter after that, but she really had no where else to stay. The last village she'd tried to go in had given her a hard time because of the fact that her hair and eyes were golden in color and she was dressed in very odd clothing (according to them). After a while they'd deduced that she must be a demon and began to attack.

She had managed to escape with a little bit of food and one drab brown kimono. They food she'd taken was gone by now though and she'd had to start foraging for herself. Mostly she just snuck into fields to get food, but sometimes she'd managed to kill a rabbit or some other small animal. Then was the agonizing process of figuring out how to prepare the food. Somehow she always got enough to eat and function properly, but damn it was annoying. Having to wash and rewash the kimono, being that it was the only one she had and she didn't like walking around in dirty clothes, was also really exasperating. She was a city, and future, girl. What the hell did she know about living in the Feudal Era?

Leilani looked over at her sword that was leaning against the wall of the not-destroyed part of the hut. It was a katana with strange symbols carved into the hilt. It was unknown to her what exactly the symbols meant, but they must have been the reason the sword could cut through anything, no matter how dull the blade looked, and that it would pulse when someone with a hostile intent would come near.

At least I'm getting better at sword fighting, she thought with a sigh as she ran her hands through her long hair. Gun-fighting was her specialty. She could take out anything with a handgun in her grip. To bad she was trying her best to blend in past, which was already hard considering her appearance.
Tiredly she pushed herself and walked over to her sword. Picking it up she walked outside. Might as well practice. She'd need all the extra help she could get if she might very well have to spend time with Naraku.

Naraku sat in a dark corner of his bedchamber, Kanna standing before him with her mirror held out in front of her. His gaze was focused on the small mirror. In it he saw the girl who'd approached him earlier that day with a sword in her hand attacking the air. It looked like she was training.

He was still contemplating what course of action he would take. The girl was intelligent about the way she approached him-that is if anyone who approached him could be intelligent- but he had no doubt that if he pushed hard enough and smart enough he could get the necessary information out of her and then he could dispose of her. She really wouldn't be able to be of much service to him. She looked as if she might be strong for a human, but he really doubted that she would be of much use in battles against his stronger enemies.

On the other hand he could keep her alive, get all of the information out of her, and then turn her into a human servant, like Kohaku. He could even use one of the jewel shards he got from this `Nibori' to bring her under her control. Yes, he liked that idea.

His last option was to simply kill her outright and search for the man who held at least four jewel shards himself. Though it would be a hassle he wouldn't have to deal with Leilani, who was sure to become rather annoying.

A knock on the wall outside his bedroom brought him out of his thoughts. Without any permission to enter, Kagura walked into his room.

How disrespectful, he thought offhandedly. Normally Kagura would have been punished for such an intrusion, but now was not the time.

“You wanted to speak with me?” his incarnation said, her tone a tad too bored for his liking.

“There is a girl I'd like you to observe for a couple of days. Kanna will lead you to her. I want to know her daily routines, how she interacts with the local people, and anything else you find noteworthy.” With that he turned his head to look out the window, saying no more.
