Chapter 2

Kagura sighed, annoyed. She'd been doing as Naraku requested and watching the girl. This was her third day sitting up in the high branches of a tree and staring at the girl, who was doing nothing. Every once in a while the girl would get something out of the strange bag of hers; a weird book, some drawing paper, but nothing interesting or noteworthy.

Kagura really didn't know why Naraku was watching the girl. Besides her appearance she didn't look like anything special. She was just a human, and though she seemed to be stronger that most human females, Kagura doubted she could do much.

The girl stood up and grabbed her sword for the umpteenth time that day. She went outside and again went through her practice routine. Gods, couldn't she do something else for a change? After about an hour of fooling around with the sword Leilani grabbed her bag and then went into the forest, most likely to find food.
With another sigh Kagura stood up on the large branch. After a few moments of brushing the dirt off of her kimono she followed the girl, effortlessly jumping from tree to tree. At the sound of a loud curse, Kagura looked down. Leilani was laying face down on the ground and trying to push herself up, muttering words Kagura'd only heard from the vilest of human men.

When the human was back on her feet she started kicking the nearest tree. It was all Kagura could do not laugh at the show. It was the most interesting thing the girl had done since Kagura had started spying.

After a couple of seconds of cooling off Leilani was back on her way with a rather aggravated look on her face, Kagura following, unnoticed, behind her.

“I cannot find him,” Kanna said in her usual soft monotone.

Naraku scowled to himself. So far what the girl had told him had been true. He'd been trying for hours on end to find this Nibori. He had a couple of demon puppets out to search for any signs of jewel shards that might lead him to his target and he'd had Kanna search with her mirror. Both of his attempts had been unsuccessful as of yet, and he was really starting to get angry. It wasn't so much that the human that had insulted him might have been right, but that he might actually have to work with the girl in a situation in which she would have the upper hand. Naraku didn't like others having the advantage in any given situation.

“Keep searching,” he ordered, his foul mood not affecting his tone in the least. It was time to re-evaluate his options. It didn't appear that he could kill the girl unless Nibori saw fit to give away his location, so that was out. The human servant idea was still in consideration, but how responsive she would be in that state wasn't something he could predict, and doing that might just throw all his information out the window.

It appeared the only real choice he had was to work with her. His scowl deepened for a few split seconds. “Kanna, go bring Kagura back.”

With a small nod the young demoness turned and went for the door, not making a single sound as she moved. When the ghostly girl was gone Naraku went and sat himself in the darkest corner of the room. It was time to plan.
