Kagome spent the entire morning worrying about what Inuyasha might or might not be doing. Although she was sure Inuyasha wouldn't cheat on her, and found it hard to imagine him going into heat like some animal, she couldn't get rid of the feeling that something was wrong. Surely Kikyou couldn't have come back from the dead again? Her soul had finally been saved and she'd departed peacefully into the afterlife…so what could it be that her friends were keeping from her? She'd asked Sango if there was something wrong, but the taijiya had brushed her off, saying she worried too much about Inuyasha for her own good.

She decided to go take a walk in the forest to clear her head, figuring she could collect some herbs for Kaede in the process, making it a useful endeavour. It was a nice day, and the others were busy mending clothing and sharpening weapons and such, so she'd gotten bored of hanging around the village. After a little while, she sensed two youkai a little way ahead, and was about to draw her bow when she caught the faint sound of familiar voices. It was Ginta and Hakkaku. She couldn't hear what they were saying, and decided to go ask them if Kouga was nearby, and maybe go ask him what he'd been talking about earlier that Shippo had misinterpreted so badly.

The two wolves jumped up in fright when she entered the clearing.
“K-Kagome nee-san! Ah…are you alright?” Asked Hakkaku.
“We're really sorry about what happened!” Added Ginta. What on earth were they talking about?
“Inuyasha has some nerve, treating you that way! Dogs are so unfaithful, unlike us wolves!” Said Hakkaku. Kagome went pale.
“What exactly are you saying happened?” She demanded. Ginta and Hakkaku looked shocked.
“About Inuyasha and that other youkai! Didn't you see Kouga yet? He was talking to your friends about it when we left.” Replied Ginta, scratching behind one of his ears.
“What?! Just what did Inuyasha do with this other youkai?!” Cried Kagome.
“Nobody told you? I thought that was the whole point in coming here!” Exclaimed Hakkaku.
“Inuyasha's having sex with some inuyoukai. Kouga thought you two must have broken up, so we came here to see.” Said Ginta.
All Kagome could do was stand there as waves of shock and hurt washed over her.
“Are you alright?” Asked Hakkaku.
“He's…why do you think he's doing that?” She asked in a small voice. Perhaps they were just confused, and it wasn't actually true?
“Well, it's mating season, so he naturally he wants to have sex with someone. I guess since you didn't want to he found someone who did.” Replied Hakkaku.
“No! Baka! I mean, did you see him or something? Are you sure he really is doing that?” asked Kagome, starting to get worked up.
“Oh, he definitely is. We didn't see, but last night we were going to stay in this cave, but we smelt him and some relative of his in there and a lot of sex, and then lots of the same smells a little way off. Sorry, nee-san.” Said Ginta.
That was enough for Kagome, and she fled back toward the village, tears streaming down her face. How could he do this to her?! How could her friends have kept this from her?! And had Ginta just said `relative'?

Sango, Miroku, Shippo, and Kaede remained in the hut to discuss the situation after Kagome had gone for her walk. Shippo couldn't understand why they'd kept it a secret from her, despite the given explanations, Kaede thought they should have just told her, while Miroku and Sango were still hoping they could find some other reasonable explanation for the wolf's information.
“Naraku might have created false scents to make it look that way, hoping to drive Inuyasha and Kagome apart- if Kagome no longer travelled with us, he wouldn't have to worry about her spiritual power or ability to sense the jewel.” Suggested Miroku.
“That's a good theory. I suppose it could be something like that.” Agreed Sango. “In any case, I still think it would be better to avoid upsetting poor Kagome-chan over something that may not be true.”
“But it's probably not true, right? We should just…” Shippo broke off as a wailing Kagome burst into the hut.

“Kagome-chan!” Cried Sango, rushing to hug her crying friend. She was brushed off.
“Why didn't you guys tell me?” Demanded the irate, teary girl.
“We, ah...it may not be true! We Didn't want you to be upset unnecessarily.” Miroku tried to explain.
“It may not be true? They smelled Inuyasha and some youkai and lots of sex! What else could it be!” Cried Kagome.
“Well, Miroku had a theory about Naraku faking it, wanting to split you two apart…we can't jump to conclusions about all this too easily, can we?” Said Sango.
“But wolves have really good noses!” Said Kagome, “And they said Inuyasha was probably in heat, and if he thought I didn't want to be with him he probably went off to look for someone that was! And there's probably lots of pretty youkai girls that would want him!”
“Now, now, Kagome-sama, you need to calm down and think about this more clearly. There are lots of reasons why we can't be too sure it's true yet.” Said Miroku reassuringly. Kagome seemed to calm down a little bit.
“like what?” she asked.
“Well, there's the idea it could be a plot of Naraku's, or, well, various things could have happened! and it just seems so unlikely that Inuyasha would do that, doesn't it? Especially since they're claiming the other person they smelled was a male inuyoukai relative of Inuyasha's…which could only be Sesshomaru.” Said Sango.
“Sesshomaru?! He's having sex with his brother?!” Screamed Kagome.
“See, so maybe he isn't!” Said Miroku.
“Maybe?! Maybe he isn't?” Cried Kagome, tears streaming down her face, she ran out of the hut.
“oh gods…wait, Kagome-sama!” Called Miroku. He, Sango, Shippo, and Kirara chased after her.

They caught up to her, but the panicked girl refused to stop running. Miroku had to grab her arm to get her to pause to talk to them.
“Let go!” She yelled. “Baka! I have to go find Inuyasha!”
“Do you really think that's such a good idea?” Asked Miroku.
“I have to know! You think I can just wait peacefully in the village while Inuyasha might be having sex with his brother?!” She cried.
“But what if he is? It might be dangerous if you suddenly showed up!” Said Sango.
“Oh, so now you think he's left me for Sesshomaru, and will let him kill me if he gets angry?!” Demanded Kagome.
“No, of course not..but..well, it would be awful…” Said Miroku.
“Well I need to know, NOW! And what if something's happened to him? What if someone else was having sex there, and Sesshomaru killed him? I'm going to find Inuyasha, and none of you can stop me!” Yelled Kagome. She twisted free of Miroku's grasp, and ran off.
“What are we going to do?” Asked Sango.
“I suppose we'll have to take her to look for him…she obviously isn't about to listen to us, and it isn't as though we can let her run off on her own like this.” Replied Miroku.
Sango agreed, and they climbed onto Kirara, and took off after Kagome.

Kagome spent the entire day either sobbing or sitting silently on Kirara's back looking traumatised and refusing to speak. Sango was left to prepare the evening meal with only Shippo to help her. Kagome was much too upset to eat, and continued to cry so much that Miroku and Sango felt so badly for her they agreed to get back on Kirara and continue the search for Inuyasha.
She felt a little bit better when they finally got near the area they last seen Inuyasha in, and Kirara started looking for his scent. If Inuyasha had really cheated on her in such a disgusting way, she knew that she would be heartbroken, but having to wonder about it was completely unbearable. Part of her was sure that he would never do something like that, and that this whole drama was just a big mistake, but another part of her knew that she was about to find something terrible.
It was late in the night when Kirara found Inuyasha's scent, and Shippo had fallen asleep in Sango's lap. They followed it through the forest, eventually leading them back to the foothills of a mountain, and in the side of a short cliff they spotted an orange glow, signifying a campfire within a cave.
Kagome jumped down from Kirara and ran on ahead, a lump of fear constricting her throat.

Finally, she arrived at the mouth of the cave, and cautiously peered inside.
There, at the back of the cave, was Inuyasha, sleeping peacefully wrapped in Sesshomaru's arms, and they were both naked. The daiyoukai was glaring at her. She let out a small, strangled sound of horror, and feeling as though she was about to faint, she turned and fled back toward her friends.
They stopped, and Kagome ran into Sango's arms, sobbing hysterically.
“I'm so sorry, Kagome-chan…” Sango whispered.
“Let's go away from here.” Kagome sobbed, “I want to be far away from here!”
They got back onto Kirara, Sango hugging and trying to console the heartbroken miko as they searched for a place to spend the night.

After the miko's sudden appearance and departure, Sesshomaru contemplated whether or not he should wake Inuyasha up. If he let him sleep, he would be able to take him again in the morning before he was able to notice her scent, and undoubtedly get angry at him for not having informed him and run off after her. Or he could disturb him immediately, and miss out on enjoying his body again…though, that way, Inuyasha would be happier with him, and if he couldn't patch things up with the girl, he might return to Sesshomaru.
He gently shook the hanyou until he frowned and slowly opened his eyes.
“Inuyasha, your miko was just here.” He informed him. Instantly he felt Inuyasha's warm body become rigid and watched his eyes widen in shock.
“WHAT?!” He exclaimed.
“Your miko. She appeared in the cave entrance, saw us, and ran away.” He replied.
Inuyasha made a sound that seemed to indicate surprise, fear, and horror all at once, leapt out of Sesshomaru's arms and started fumbling with his clothing.
“You're going to try to talk to her?” Sesshomaru asked.
“Obviously! Gods- she's going to kill me! Thanks for ruining my life, bastard!”
Inuyasha was gone in a flash, leaving Sesshomaru to mentally curse the miko and eventually fall asleep alone and irritated.

The group landed in a little clearing and Shippo helped Miroku to start a fire while Sango stayed with Kagome, who perched herself on a log and sat with her arms wrapped around herself, tears streaming down her face.
“Kagome? Do you want to talk about it?” Asked Sango, softly.
Kagome shook her head, but responded anyway, as crying teenagers so often do.
“I can't believe he really did that to me!”
“I know. I'm so sorry Kagome-chan, I know it must be very painful for you.” Said Sango, imagining hw she's feel if she had caught Miroku with some village girl. It was hard enough seeing him merely flirting…
“Why? Why would he do that?!” Sobbed Kagome.
“I'm sure it was just his heat…Inuyasha wouldn't normally do something like that…” Sango told her.
“But that's even worse! He's so pathetic he'll leave me and go have sex with his own brother just because of his stupid hormones!!? How could he do that? It's disgusting!” She screeched.

Inuyasha, meanwhile, had chased after Kirara's scent, and seen where his companions were setting up camp, but remained off at a distance, not sure quite how he should approach Kagome, who he could hear sobbing quite clearly from where he was sitting. Then she started talking to Sango. He'd expected her to be hurt and disgusted, but he'd never been able to imagine how painful hearing the words from her lips would actually be.
“Well, he's a hanyou- his youkai blood makes his body different to a human's. He has strong natural-“
“You mean he's like an animal! But not even animals have sex with their brothers! I should have known he was sick when he was in love with that corpse!” Kagome was yelling. `she thinks I'm sick?' wondered Inuyasha. He hadn't realised he'd been holding out any hope of being forgiven and accepted until he felt it ripped away. He didn't want to go through the pain of hearing anymore of it, and fled.

“I don't think anything's really wrong with him, Kagome-sama, you know being half youkai, it's probably pretty normal if he's attracted to men as well as women, and apparently being intimate with a member of one's family is perfectly acceptable amongst youkai. I'm sure it doesn't mean he's any less interested in you than before.” Said Miroku, coming to sit with them.
“What difference does it make if he's interested after he's done something so horrible! I feel sick just thinking about it! They were naked, and…and…it's just so wrong…I mean, they're brothers! Male, and siblings!” Wailed Kagome.
“It's not alright to be with your siblings like that?” Asked Shippo.
“No! No! It's sick, and wrong!” Cried Kagome.
“But things are different for youkai than they are with humans…what's wrong for humans isn't always what's wrong for a youkai or hanyou to do.” Said Sango, softly.
“oh, right! Like eating people and destroying villages and having sex with your brothers!” Kagome yelled. She resumed sobbing, and Sango sat quietly with her, having realised talking wasn't going to help, while Miroku took Shippo away to speak with him about Kagome and the things she'd said. The little Kitsune seemed somewhat upset.
