Craving the Swords
By Violet
A/N: I know I was supposed to update on Higurashi Dojo. But I got the story line all confused. And right when I was working on that. I had that moment, where this new creative force hits you so hard; you fall over and have a coma? I got that. And I thought of what Inuyasha's human side of the family would do if they knew that Inuyasha was still alive. The swords in this fic is a major importance, hence the title.
Anyway- please read it. I think it's a pretty good first chapter.

Chapter one: Kagome's escape
Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Kagome trotted through the water trying to be as fast as possible, and at the same time trying to make sure that she didn't make sound while bouncing around too much. It was a difficult, and almost an impossible task to complete, the pond she tried to cross was sinking deeper, and harder to manipulate while holding a sleeping baby in one clutched arm, and a Tetsusaiga in the other.
She couldn't hear the villagers that were closing in on her, the only frantic sounds she could hear was the pounding of her heart- something that made her sick to her stomach with worry. She was sure to throw up any moment, and drown, bringing the precious baby down into the cold depth with her. Her bleeding sides weren't helping with her health, since it was a couple of days since she had given birth to baby Kaori.
The new born that was wrapped in a heavy white baby kimono, slept without a thought of what was going on and didn't even bother fussing over the increasingly dropping temperature of water that the two of them were slowly getting soaked in. She was so quiet, that it only made Kagome thankful that Kaori was such a good baby, yet also making her panic if the baby was sent to the other word without even a scream.
The Tetsusaiga in the other arm pounded in uneven rhythms with Kagome's erratic heartbeat. The possession of Kagome's one and only love… Inuyasha…
“There she is!”
It made Kagome jump in her skin as she whirled her head to see villagers with fire sticks, arrows, rocks and ropes coming her way. Most where men with angry, faces filled with hunger to kill anything that involved youkai blood, even if it meant killing a baby only a few days old, and the mother of the child, that loved her lover and her baby more than anybody in the world… Cruel, thoughtless minds made them shuffle toward the painfully cold water that protected the hanyou child Kaori, and her mother Kagome Higurashi.
“Demon bitch! Get out of the water and beg that hell didn't save the hottest spot for yeh!” shouted one man who was actually grinning as he reached out to grab Kagome, who was now waddling in the water. It was deep enough for her to swim. She used Inuyasha's sword as a sort of paddle as she hoisted her baby on her shoulder- away from water and from villagers at the same time.
“Wench! Get back here!” hissed a village maid who looked crumpled and old. “Don't be such a fool for a young one that has a foul destiny…”
“A DISGRACE TO THE HUMAN RACE!” screamed a younger man that had wispy hair growing on his face, and he seemed to be hungering to beat Kagome more than drown the baby that she was trying to desperately save.
“Shoot the arrows!”
Kagome craned her head far enough to see from the little light in this cold night- three arrowheads heading her way. She screamed, waking the poor baby, who finally seemed to notice the terrible conditions, and wailed with all her might. The little lungs filled up with crisp cold air, and the miniature fists curled to start beating the inside of the soaking wet kimono.
It was a mistake to have birth in a foreign village… It was a bigger mistake to have asked Shippo and Kirara off…
Sobbing for her and her mourning baby, she was just ever so glad to find that the arrows only scratched her flesh, and not her precious baby girl, who was now shaking like a crazy jumping jelly bean, scaring Kagome even more than she already was. Several ropes were being swung toward her in attempt to catch the `wench', along with spears, since nobody dared to swim in water in the feudal era. It involved too much drowning. It was an advantage Kagome had- to be able to swim while holding a screaming child.
Once Kagome felt a rock hit her sandal, she leapt out of the water, tripping over the slippery stones only twice, and scrambling out of the water with total delight. She ignored the men that were starting to cross the pond by the use of ropes and teamwork, and stripped her baby bare naked, she squeezed all the water from the white kimono, and kissed her baby's cold, shivering body. Scared shitless of the thought of loosing the baby.
The baby didn't stop shaking.
Kagome started sobbing now, and opened her own Kimono that dripped wet, and pressed her shivering child against her cold chest, and rubbed the baby's back till it finally made some warmth, and with great glee, when she pressed the Tetsusaiga against the both of them, a sudden warmth made the both of them stop shivering, and soon the baby Kaori was back to being wrapped in Kimono, but also being rushed away form the villagers from Kagome.
The villagers, not only successfully crossing the pond while drowning themselves, they were now starting to scramble to shore just as Kagome did. They didn't have to worry about warming a shivering baby, so of course, they were several inches from grabbing Kagome from behind, where they probably would rape her, torment her baby, and then kill them both and leave their corpse for hungry wolves.
Kagome made a bark like scream when she tripped over a log, and quickly glanced at her foot, the baby in her arms didn't budge; so Kagome wasn't thinking properly… she didn't notice that her foot didn't really look like feet anymore since it was covered in red sticky liquid…
Kaori was a fairly easy child, even if Kagome only knew her own baby for a couple of awful, restless days, she already loved Kaori dearly. Kaori was probably the blessed baby from heaven, since she barely fussed, and once she got into her freshly warmed kimono after being soaked in a deadly cold pond, she started to sleep again. Not to make a sound and not to cause any worry for the panic-stricken mother who was running through a rocky bamboo forest with torn sandals. The only thing that seemed to have saved them was the Tetsusaiga that always was warm, and was always there to give them some sort of support and tug them toward the direction that was indeed where Inuyasha would have brought the two of them…
Inuyasha, even if he wasn't there… Inuyasha was a huge support too.
And his idea of Kagome taking the Tetsusaiga was a work of a genius. But Kagome hoping the villagers of a distant place would help her take care of her labor wounds was not a work of genius- but a work of a pure idiot that still didn't understand the feudal era even after spending a good two years in it.
When they saw the two black ears that popped from Kaori's white head, they grew into a dark, village. They flashed evil glares at her, and immediately led Kagome to a drowning pit, where they were hoping to drown both Kaori and Kagome. Thankfully, Tetsusaiga's strange pulse made a village girl scream, and it caught just enough attention that Kagome could run away with both Kaori and Tetsusaiga at hand.
“Inuyasha.” Kagome breathes. “Where are you?”
Inuyasha had left the Tetsusaiga in Kagome's possession right when he noticed something darn right different about her. It was the worst time to give up the Tetsusaiga, since Inuyasha was out there in a war where he didn't know who his opponents were. It was actually a war for humans, but he had no choice since… he was related to the side that begged for help. Yes, it was in fact Izayoi's nephew—Inuyasha's cousin who begged for forgiveness of their cruelty, and demanded help to protect their castle. And even if the rest of the gang needed him for shard-hunting, and Naraku-killing, Inuyasha, Sango, and Miroku was now fighting for a war of Inuyasha's new human Aunt and Uncle. Leaving the `sick' Kagome screaming with labor fits with the scared-to-death Shippo; who was the only one that had witnessed the birth of the baby hanyou Kaori.
Shippo was out there somewhere too… his mission was to deliver the message to Inuyasha that… his daughter was born.
Kagome rolled her eyes; Inuyasha probably won't believe Shippo even if Shippo did get there on time though. She huffed and puffed, and gladly found enough moonlight to weave safely through trees. The pulsing the of the Tetsusaiga kept the demons out of her path and out of her way, and the villagers cries seemed to drown with the pumps of the mighty sword. Something Kagome was very glad for.
The sword made a final tug toward a direction, before it fell silent, and Kagome could hear the villagers close on her tail again. She looked frantically at the direction the Tetsusaiga advised. When she blinked away the dirt, tears, and bits of her hair from her eyes, she saw something that struck her heart and immediately made her pretty face illuminate with a smile.
The bone eater's well.
She jumped in without hesitation that Kaori wouldn't be able to pass, only in the split seconds when she was near the bottom did she panic if Kaori was just going to stick to the bottom of the well. The thought made her scream, before she dipped into the light of a blue rainbow. The sound of the villagers were lost, and when she shakily looked down, she saw the little baby girl sleeping in her arms.
Safe.
