Craving of Swords

Chapter Three

A/N: Sorry I didn't update, I was thinking up the plot, and it got mixed up with my other stories, it was kinda funny at first, but deleting and rewriting a lot of stuff is definitely NOT humorous…

Luckily, this chapter was unharmed, so I post it to thee.

Chapter Three: Detective Dog

Kirara, who had been immediately set off to get help from Inuyasha had already arrived in the abandoned cottage, when the time Shippo had met with his own destination. It had been six awful days of trying to fight off wind, and the temptation to eat just so she could get Sango to get on her back, and fight the wind again, to get back to Kagome. This time, since the wind was pushing her, she got back in five days, and now you have the result of her success.

Sango jumped off from Kirara's back, and Kirara relaxed her tensed muscles and released herself into her smaller state of a little baby kitty. She didn't relax all the way however, since she could smell the scent of a familiar blood inside the rusty cottage. It was old, but strong- since Sango detected it before she even noticed where in seven-hells Kirara had taken her.

“What is that smell?” Sango asked out loud, and stepped into the creaking, moist hut. She had a feeling it was going to fall over any minute. Cautiously, and fearfully, she walked toward a huddled part of the hut, where it had a dugout fire pit, a little air hole in the moldy wood, and a blood covered modern Uniform.

“What happened?” Sango was now frantically looking around for more blood to give out more clues, but there was none. Just the bloodied navy-blue uniform and white socks, that was drenched in a crusty brown frosting of dried labor-liquid. With no actual detail that Kagome was alone, or that this hut was something they found by luck. It actually looked like a previous rape-scene.

Yet, for a strange reason, even for a rape, it wouldn't have been as bloody as it seemed. Sango quickly studied the shifting patterns of the earth below the uniform. It didn't have any sign of another person in the room other than a girl, and two demon companions. Finally, Sango relaxed a bit after assuring that the blood on Kagome's abandoned high-school uniform wasn't actually hers, and that Sango was over reacting.

Kirara, however, was now the one prancing around the room, she detected the Uniform just as quickly as Sango did, and scowled toward it, the smell was definitely Kagome's. Sango didn't have to have a translator to tell her what Kirara meant. She was now back to full-hedged panic, getting out her hiraikotsu, just in case the attacker who did a horrible thing to Kagome would come back conveniently in time for Sango to rip it apart.

Then again… why didn't Kagome use her bow and arrow? Sango pursed her lips, and- obviously, nobody ripped her apart, there are no gashes on her clothes, and it looks like she used it to sit on…

Kirara, who had the faint smell of a different person from the blood that splattered the uniform studied it more intently, and as if falling in love with the smell, started to purr affectionately. Sango knelt down to study the blood creases, and she grew curious to what was so good about the smell. Suddenly- just the thought of Kagome hurting herself for a good reason came in mind.

Crack.

Sango turned around- and there she had crushed one of Kagome's fragile arrows. Beside the wall, there was her fallen tub of arrows, and her bow lying innocently across from where Kagome had laid down on her uniform. Obviously Kagome did not fight off a demon. Coming to think of it, she wouldn't have sent off Kirara if she needed battle-help.

“Did she have extra clothes with her?” Sango quickly asked to Kirara. Kirara purred again, and nodded pointing her snout to Sango. A quick memory flash told Sango the answer Kirara meant to say. “She had my clothes. Oh I forgot all about that… I left them with her… so that when she needed help by villagers, she could look like someone from our era.” Her lips quivered and twisted only slightly. “But what kind of help?” she desperately looked around for more clues. Nothing came to her, it was too dark in the hut, and just to annoy Sango, dawn turned to dusk- soon Sango only had the light of a waning moon.

It occurred to her that it must have been a full moon when Kagome had her accident whatever it was. Sango noticed her cat was now purring again toward the bloodied uniform. She bent toward Kirara, rubbing her fingers under her cat's tiny belly and murmuring in a gentle hum, “What do you smell?”

Kirara, desperate to tell Sango, that it was Kagome's baby hanyou that she smelled, she soothed into Kirara's touch, and made a little imitation of a bark as best as she could. It sounded like a cough, but Sango immediately pushed her fingers back a bit too far from surprise, and Kirara too jumped away.

“You smell Inuyasha?” Sango guessed. Kirara showed blood red eyes blinking toward her and bowed her head in a nod. “In Kagome's blood?”

A little `Meow' told her that it was so. Sango frowned a bit, and then turned toward the front door, ready to leave, but froze, feeling the presence of someone else. She couldn't believe she didn't notice it- the presence must have been there for a good while. Silently pulling her sword, she whirled around to face the shadow at the doorway.

Illuminated by the pale moonlight, was Inuyasha standing in the doorway. His eyes ablaze, his nose perked. His long silver hair looked absolutely stunning- and it must have been Sango's imagination, but it seemed to be dripping with something red, but to the point- seeing him was an utter relief.

“Inuyasha-“ Sango felt the hilt of her sheathe, and covered her blade hastily while offering a tiny perk of her lips. He cuts her off immediately however.

“I know what happened. Shippo told me yesterday. He just arrived… a bit late though. I smelt you near by to tell you what I know so far… I also…” he scowled a bit while turning away to shade his eyes away from Sango's view. “Need help from you.”

Inuyasha walked into the hut, swiftly taking a whiff of Kagome's poor uniform. Sango watched in interest how Inuyasha gingerly picked up her stiff clothes, and he began his talking. “Kagome had a baby.”

Sango's reply was nothing. She stared long and hard at the bent figure. She took in every word, and finally the jolting reaction came. “She had a what?” she stumbled on her every word as she backed out of the musty hut, and into the crisp night air where everything except the hut, and Inuyasha's eyes were to be seen.

Inuyasha's golden orbs peeked at her from the darkened house. It looked like hovering gold coins instead of eyes, but when they blinked twice toward the demon slayer, and even made a rumbling chuckle. “Surprised?”

Sango sputtered a good nasty words, “Of course I am.” She hissed. She didn't have to ask who made her pregnant she knew too well already as she rounded on Inuyasha. “How did you take the news? Were you surprised? Or did you know… is that why you're chuckling? Because you abandoned her?”

Inuyasha's whole expression was rather calm, he did think of hitting her, but then again, she did have the right to lash out and expect the nastiest things of him, now that she knows what he and Kagome had been doing when the team would split up to find shards in duet pairs. Sango blew her steam a lot better than Miroku however. By the end of her steam, she was asking the name, the sex, and the looks of the baby.

“It's a girl.” Sighed Inuyasha, not bothering the hide the building love in his chest. “Kaori- Kagome named her. Probably smells as sweet as plums.” He took Kagome's bow and arrows and hunched them on his back. “I'm going to meet the two of `em soon. I can't… I can't wait to see my daughter.”

Sango had completely softened. She imagined Inuyasha and Kagome in a small hut, with a vision of a cute girl with plums in her bundle of hair. Since Inuyasha's eyes glowered back at her from pitch darkness, she imagined the daughter to also have the same pair, but with lovely eyelashes surrounding the golden hue.

“How much do you know?” she asked as Inuyasha started running toward his next destination. She was atop Kirara again, and catching up with Inuyasha was a lot harder now that he was so eager to do something besides shard hunting.

“A good lot.” He explains as if it was talk about how to breathe, he began his own story. “Kagome didn't know she was pregnant, see- because she was under a curse.”

“A curse?”

“Yeah.” Inuyasha said darkly. “She was lucky I made her pregnant, because if she wasn't, she would have been in a lot more trouble.”

“What are you talking about?” Sango said, turning bitter once again. “Don't take pride on your foolish actions Inuyasha, you haven't married her and yet you—“

“The curse was a little gift from Kanna, the Mirror brat. I think she was ordered to give her newfound magic from Naraku. That curse was to be used to hide Kagome's miko powers...”

“But it hid Kagome's pregnancy instead.”

“Exactly.”

“Why did Naraku want the miko powers to be hidden?”

“I don't know that.” Inuyasha says, picking up more speed, and rushing toward a destination that Sango finally took notice as they gradually went deeper toward the bone eater's well.

“Kagome had the pup and I don't know how it went, but seeing how bloody her uniform was…” he frowned finally, the smile of pride gone in a memory. “I should have been there. Instead of leave her with a rusty blade. I could have finished the war easier, and returned to see my daughter without all this confusion.” Inuyasha spat these words so bitterly, Sango detected a clear streak of purple flashing on his pale cheeks.

“Easy there, Inuyasha. You can't blame your family—“

“They aren't family. My real family is the one I should have helped. I'm a shameful being to the humans I helped during war. To Kagome- I ain't shameful… or at least I wasn't. I am a pretty shameful father now…”

“Don't say that.” Sango scolded. “You don't want to act like such a wimp. You know left the Tetsusaiga to protect her.”

“And it did well.” Inuyasha said briskly. “It led her to a safe spot where I can meet her without villagers trying to shoot the both of us to hell.”

He said this so matter-of-factly, Sango almost missed the entire fact he mentioned villagers. She gasped, and leaned in closer to where Inuyasha's ears topped his head. “D… did she ask for help after she had the baby?”

Finally Inuyasha cracked a toothy smile. It wasn't a good smile though, it was the kind that Sango, Miroku, Shippo and Kagome would take caution to. It was the smile he wore when he obviously thought of a success that would normally be thought of cruelty.

“If you were covered in blood from head to toe with a new born pup that you cared for more than your life…” Inuyasha growls dangerously to Sango, “Wouldn't you wanna get your pup some rags to warm her?”

“Of course!” Sango said defensively. “I wouldn't go to a village I don't know, though…”

“Kagome didn't have a choice.” Inuyasha continued. “She tumbled to the village we passed a good hour ago.”

“Hm.”

“Those bastards attempted to drown her. They even touched my sword…” his voice was now a scowling whisper that Kirara took heed, and backed a good foot away from. “They ran her numb till she got to the bone eater's well.”

“So she's safe.” Sighed Sango.

“But badly injured.” Jeered Inuyasha, right back. “They held my pup before me. They even attempted to strangle her. Kagome was smart enough to grab a baby kimono, the Tetsusaiga, and then run her butt off…”

“Was she ok? Running right after birth?”

“NO!” shouted Inuyasha, making Sango and Kirara jump another foot away, he looked absolutely ravenous as his grin grew a bit bigger, his fangs flashed, and Sango finally saw in the faintest light, the blood that trickled from the white of Inuyasha's beautiful mane, and also blended red with his robes. Sango sank into Kirara's fur, making sure Inuyasha would attack her either. Her eyes saddened, as she watched him for a while not tell her how he got the information from.

“You killed them all, didn't you?”

Inuyasha scoffed- his grinning was gone. “Them? Nah, I only chopped off the fingers of the ones who smelt of Kagome's blood- the ones who threatened to kill me because I was a hanyou… well, I couldn't help but rip one arm off those ungrateful bastard... Kagome wouldn't allow me to kill them.” He flashed his grin toward Sango. “Still, it was the best choir of screams I have heard in the longest of times…”

Sango actually was quite proud of Inuyasha's punishment. He must have gone full demon, but still controlled enough to keep their heads in tact. It was a sign of his fatherly responsibilities coming in place. She found herself thinking of taking entire limbs instead of silly fingers from the villagers who dared to touch her friend. It was a good thing Inuyasha didn't see her own small smile.

“So they confessed everything to you?”

“Yeah. Or else I would have scratched their whole arm off.” Inuyasha replied casually. “They were surprised to see me as a hanyou though.”

“Hm? Why?”

“Because.” Inuyasha had the pride-filled grin back on again; his eyes were filled with a new found joy. “Kaori is full-hanyou.”

“W- what?” Sango shared the smile and blinked. “You mean, she has the ears? Dog ears?”

“You bet.” Laughed Inuyasha, back to being harmless enough to fly close to. Kirara made a silent purr along with Inuyasha's rambunctious laugh. “I guess my demon side is strong, cause I passed it to my offspring with no problem!” Sango believed it was the silliest thing to boast about, but laughed with him anyway.

Finally, after detailing on Kaori's fragrance and beauty that the young father never even knew about yet, Inuyasha had detected the smell of the bone eater's well. He hopped over a group of trees, and when Sango followed- she was surprised that Inuyasha hadn't already jumped in yet.

“I told you.” He said looking at her surprised features. “I needed help.”

“Right.” Sango said, remembering also- she got off of Kirara, and she stood in front of Inuyasha her hands on the hilt of her sword and her other arm supporting her gargantuan boomerang.

“I want you to find out why Naraku wanted Kagome's miko powers hidden. Ask Shippo to talk to Kanna, he knows illusion magic like her, Kanna is sure to fall for fox tricks because she's a little creep herself.” Sango had hoped that Inuyasha was going to honor Shippo's illusion powers for a change, not call the two of them- Shippo and Kirara creeps. She wondered if Inuyasha was going to take father-role up to terms if he calls little kids `creeps'. The thought remained in the depths of her brain; never to be spoken out loud, never to get close to the finger-ripping hanyou.

“Alright.” Sango agrees. “We'll find out for you, `Touchan.”

Inuyasha's cheeks bloomed a lovely color of pink and he scowled his approval away and turned to the well. “Come to the well when you found the answer. Drop this- inside the well when you do. Until you come, Sango- I'm gonna think that it's not safe for Kagome nor the pup to come back.” Inuyasha handed Sango a single, sliver of the Shikon Jewel. Something that Sango was greatly surprised he had held during the whole time without turning into a demon. She cursed to herself for not noticing that Inuyasha was indeed having flashes of demon on his cheeks. She just didn't notice it since she thought he was going mad for his lover's sake. He must have found it before taking care of the villagers, or else he wouldn't have acted as though he thought of killing them.

Sango slipped the shard into the little pockets she had on her shoulder pads, and bowed her good bye to Inuyasha as he jumped into the well without another word.

To be continued?
