Rain……..rain to disguise the tears in my eyes……..

The leaves made no sound as the young woman made her way through the dusky forest. The steady cold rain did not hinder her much, but even at this point she stopped caring. Her clothes and pack were soaked and sodden, but the girl paid no heed. Her pace through the scornful forest was quick almost running; but no one followed her.

Yoko cursed the gods as she fell into the wet leave and humus on the forest floor. She grabbed her ankle roughly and cursed again. `This is so stupid' Why was she on the ground? She had been careless, miss-stepped and now her ankle was twisted. She rose trying to ignore the shooting pains in her foot. But she took one step and found herself back on the ground. A strangled whimper mounted in her chest and erupted as a scream. She ran her hands through her hair painfully pulling at the tangles, then began to rip out the soggy leaves and moss on the ground beside her.

She screamed again when the anger inside her wasn't sated. She screamed ragged and savagely, again, and again, pulling up the forest floor. But even the birds in their nests did not leave at her disruptive noises. They watched as if even they knew her pain and pitiful retching, mocking her foolishness.

Her breath caught on a sob, a hurt desperate sound. Her hands stilled, muddied and cut, and then tears. Sob after gasping sob, so the rain and her tears were just water after all. She sat back hugging her knees fiercely to her chest, rocking back and forth trying to console her raging confusion and keep warm. The rain had finally made its point.

`Why had they done this….my parents…..?' She thought whimpering. `Doushite, why. It…is it all my doing. Did I curse myself…gods what have I done…..?'

Yoko rocked herself, and held her bottom lip tightly in her teeth. She held on to her knees tighter. Her head was pounding, and if she didn't gain some kind of control she felt her body would slip and fly apart into a thousand pieces.

She was breaking inside as she sat there in the darkness, the evil and hatred spreading, wanting to consume her, trying to corrupt her. She held tighter, everything screaming, though the forest was still, and when she tasted the blood in her mouth, she knew she would be sick.

"Miroku go up there and get her. You cannot undo what you have done but you can atone, you can try." Sango insisted.

Kagome, held Souta, the newest pup in their family, sitting next to InuYasha, who watched the whole thing impassively. The little hanyou's ears twitched in his sleep, and Kagome stroked them fondly. The fire lit room offered only artificial comfort. And neither of the two guests knew how to calm their anxious friend.

"She is our daughter do not let her slip further. She has been up there for hours, she won't eat, she won't answer me and you won't tell me what happen in a straight answer. So go up there."

"Sango!…it is too late. The revulsion and fear I saw….I could taste it, she is……" He sighed heavily. He turned away from her, walking through the back into dimly lit back yard. The clouds rolled in irritated patterns, causing Miroku to sigh again. How could he tell Sango he no longer felt their daughter's presence in the house. He knew she was already worried beyond reason, and if nothing happened soon he was sure he would be sorry even more that he didn't tell her.

"I can't take this, I'm going up there…"

"Go ahead but she's not there" Sango rounded on InuYasha eyes narrowed.

"What do you mean, InuYasha?"

"She left, she's been gone since dusk fell." He shrugged rising to pad about the room.

Kagome cradled Souta more closely against her, hoping not to have him awaken, with Sango's impending outburst. But Sango only looked at Miroku suspiciously. He fiend indifference, still looking to the sky.

Sango turned, leaving the room. Kagome flinched as the sliding door slammed into its frame, but Souta only made unmindful sucking motions, and slept on. InuYasha looked over at his mate and son. He looked at his friend still standing alone and detached, a heavy burden pressing down on his slight form. InuYasha didn't know what to say. He huffed impatiently, and held out his hand to Kagome. She took it rising gracefully with the sleeping hanyou still in her arms.

"Miroku, I'll help you find her, she can't have gone far" The Monk didn't acknowledge his words, but merely looked still out into the growing dark. InuYasha and Kagome left, Kagome chancing one last glance over her shoulder, and feeling in her heart another sadness.

"InuYasha, do you think she'll be alright?" InuYasha huffed haughtily and turned over to face his mate.

"Don't you ever sleep?"

Kagome smiled, but her tone was serious "I mean it, she could be hurt or dead, anything could happen to her."

"Kagome, she's a strong girl. She'll be fine and we'll find her tomorrow. So stop worrying. Kagome sighed, worrying her lip, but cuddled closer to her lover. InuYasha tightened his arm briefly around her, his own doubts now surfacing. But they would find her. But what then?

Koishi lay, eyes searching in the dark room, His parents voices subsiding, his unease growing.

She was gone? But…where would she go and why? Nani, what happened.?

Yoko felt it, but the cold and numbness of her body would not permit her to open her eyes. A deep fog swirled around her brain, but the feeling of danger, and something not human grew.

"What do you want…?" she growled thickly through her disobliging brain. An amused laugh cut through the darkness, and her eyes would still not open. Her senses sent jolts of panic and apprehension through her body, and the voice rang out again.

"So little one, you can sense me, ne? But how do you plan to defend yourself if you cannot see, if you cannot move. Tell me…" The voice sounded just beyond her right, and made her jump. But her incessant fear quickly turned to anger, and frustration. She could see, she had only to open her eyes

`But you don't want to move do you? You want to sleep, and forget….'

`NO!' Yoko fought against the voice within her. Why would she tell herself this?, there was something not right something…..something…

`You do…You want to forget. You want to be normal. You cannot see because you don't want to. So go, sleep…nothing is wrong…."

`But…..' She squirmed and struggled against unseen bonds, she wanted to slip, and she wanted to sleep. Her body tensed and spasmed, lifeless, and unaware. The tickle of her betraying mind fogged with condescending laughter.
