Chapter 4
Amaya awoke in her large bed. She sat up and looked around the room. She had a bandage wrapped around her waist. As soon as she sat up she felt a sharp pain in her side. It felt like she had a thousand tiny knives sticking in her side. She cried out. Seconds later she was surrounded by servants. Sesshomaru pushed through them and put his hand on her shoulder and gently laid her back down. He sat beside her on the bed. Amaya looked up at him. For the first time, Amaya saw fear in his eyes. “Onii-sama?” Amaya didn’t understand why Sesshomaru was so afraid. The fear was replaced with relief , as soon as she spoke. “I’m alright, Sesshomaru,” she said, trying to reassure her brother. “The pain just surprised me, that’s all.” She smiled, trying to hide the pain. She took a deep breath and the pain came once more. She grimaced at the feeling. Sesshomaru dismissed the servants and gently took her in his arms, careful not to upset her wounds. “What happened?” she asked him. “You don’t remember?” Sesshomaru figured she would remember the feeling of their uncle driving his claws into her, even if her demon had taken over fully. “Asa stabbed his claws into your abdomen during the fight,” Sesshomaru explained. Amaya was confused. “Then why didn’t I remember it?” she asked. “Why don’t I remember anything?” Sesshomaru didn’t know exactly what happened with her. It had never before happened to him, so he really didn’t know. Hotaru entered the room silently. “Her demon took over and she was close to taking her true form,” Hotaru said from behind. “Her anger blinded her to pain or memory of it. With training she’ll be able to do this with control and memory.”
Amaya knew it had something to do with her anger at her uncle. Now she knew exactly what had happened. Hotaru sat on the bed beside her and Sesshomaru. “Well,” he said. “You gave us quite a scare.” Umi came in. “I see you’re awake,” she said. Sesshomaru put Amaya back on the bed and he and Hotaru stood aside, letting Umi change the bandages and tend to Amaya. “You gave us quite a scare,” Umi said. Amaya nodded. Umi left, as did Hotaru. “I’ll let you get some sleep,” Sesshomaru said and left. Amaya decided to sleep, since she had nothing else to do. She awoke to the feeling of someone’s touch. She looked and it was Umi changing the bandages once more. “You should be up and about by tomorrow,” she said. “How long have I been asleep?” Amaya asked. “Almost twenty- four hours,” Umi replied. “Wow,” Amaya said. Umi nodded and left her alone. Amaya stared at the ceiling deep in thought. So many questions buzzed through her head, so many fears and what if’s. Would the pup be alright? If the pup survived, would it be like her or like her uncle? Would the child grow up in shame?
Amaya grew quite a bit, as six months passed and the time for the baby to come grew near.
Amaya had healed from her wounds quite well and had been courted by many young and old princes at the order of her brother. Sesshomaru knew she could not take care of a pup alone. He knew that she needed a mate that would love her and care for her and love her pup. One prince came. His name was Kazuki. He had long silver hair and warm silver eyes. She stared into those eyes as he spilled out the usual speech she heard from men. “Princess,” he said, bowing. “I promise do be a kind, loving dutiful mate. I will love you and cherish you and-” He stopped as he looked up and realized she was pregnant. “Were you previously mated?” he asked. He saw the mark on her neck. “You were? Weren’t you?” “No,” Amaya said. “I was raped. I would never do such a dishonor.” “F-forgive me princess,” Kazuki stuttered. “I did not mean to imply dishonor.” Amaya suddenly felt a pain in her abdomen. “DAMN!” she yelled. Sesshomaru and Hotaru, who had been standing near the door ran to her and caught her, as she collapsed on the floor. “What’s happening?” Kazuki asked frantically. “The baby,” Hotaru said. He picked Amaya up and carried her to Umi’s chamber. By the time Hotaru put her down, her water broke. She screamed in pain as a contraction hit her. “DAMN IT!!” she screamed. Umi helped her remove her hakama and her undergarments. Amaya breathed deep and pushed. Umi knelt between Amaya’s legs and guided the child out of the womb. Amaya birthed the afterbirth, which Sesshomaru melted with his poison claws. Then there was a sound not native to right after giving birth. That was the sound of silence. Amaya sat up and stared at the unmoving form in Umi’s arms. It was a girl, but she was very underdeveloped. Amaya looked from the child, to Sesshomaru, to Umi and back to the child. “Why isn’t she moving?” she asked, tears forming in her eyes. Umi stared at the body of the baby in solemn silence. “Umi?” Amaya repeated. “Why is she silent? Why doesn’t she move?” The tears began to fall. Umi looked at Amaya sadly. “It seems that when your uncle wounded you,” she said. “Scar tissue formed and blocked the child’s life supports, killing her before she even left the womb.” Tears came harder. Umi helped Amaya clean up and Amaya put her clothing back on. Hotaru and Kazuki came in to see Amaya in fresh clothes, holding the child’s small limp body in her arms and crying. Kazuki realized what happened and went to Amaya. “My darling I’m terribly sorry.” He put a hand on her shoulder. She growled at him and her eyes turned red. “I am not your darling,” she hissed through her tears. She swatted his hand away. Umi took the child’s body and wrapped it in linens. They buried the child in the corner of the garden.
