Chapter 3
Sesshomaru knew that Amaya would not sleep till their uncle was dead. He knew what he had to do, for her. He would challenge his uncle to a fight to the death. He sat at his desk holding the formal challenge in his hands. It was written in elegant calligraphy. It was brief and to the point. It stated that traditional rules would be followed. He sent it with a trustworthy servant and then went to his sister’s room. She sat on her bed staring at the wall. She didn’t move her eyes, even when Sesshomaru took her in his arms and hugged her to his chest. “I have challenged Asa,” Sesshomaru said softly. Amaya looked up at him. “You’re crazy,” she said. Sesshomaru raised a silver eyebrow at her. “He’s older than father and stronger,” Amaya said. “There’s no way you can beat him. Even if he has no weapon he’s stronger than father. You can’t beat him, at least not alone.” Sesshomaru looked at her in surprise. She had never before doubted his strength. “You need a second,” she continued, a smirk forming on her mouth. “No,” was Sesshomaru’s simple answer, as he realized what she meant. “But I have more right to kill him than anyone else!” she exclaimed at her brother. “Did you forget what he took from me? Did you forget that he made me pregnant against my will?!” Sesshomaru’s gentle expression hardened. “I did not forget,” he said. “I am thinking of your health. You are pregnant. I am thinking of the pup’s health.” Amaya was getting frustrated. “Can’t you see I don’t care if this pup live or dies?! I don’t want a living reminder of.. of…” She couldn’t finish her sentence. She began to cry. Sesshomaru began to rock her back and forth and whisper words of comfort to calm her. She regained her composure. “I have every right to be your second,” she told him. “This pup is hardly developed. It will not do it too much harm to it. Please. I want to hear his scream as his heart is ripped from his chest.” Sesshomaru couldn’t deny the fact that his sister wanted vengeance and he knew nothing would stop her from getting it. He nodded reluctantly. Amaya hugged him. “Thank you onii-sama,” she whispered. Sesshomaru knew she was a capable fighter, but still he feared for her. She was after all pregnant.
Sesshomaru and Amaya sat in Sesshomaru’s study. “You do know the traditional rules of challenges?” Sesshomaru asked. Amaya nodded. “No weapons, no magic, no poison. Claws, fangs and hand to hand combat only. Fight to the death. One on One only,” Amaya repeated dutifully. “Good,” Sesshomaru said. He was glad that he did not have to teach her those rules. “I was present when father challenged the one who tried to kill Inuyasha and Izayoi,” she said. “I paid attention.” Sesshomaru nodded, understanding that she knew. There was a knock at the door. “Enter,” Sesshomaru called. The door opened and an Inuyoukai woman that looked a lot like their father walked in. Sesshomaru stood to greet her. “Aunt Kaiya,” he said. “It’s nice to see you again.” Amaya turned to see her aunt and launched herself into the woman’s arms. “Aunt Kaiya!” she exclaimed. “Hello Amaya,” Kaiya said hugging her niece back. “Hello Sesshomaru.” She put down Amaya and turned to her nephew. “You have challenged Asa to a fight to the death?” she asked. Sesshomaru nodded. “I have,” he confirmed. “You are nuts if you’re going into a fight with him without a second,” Kaiya said. Amaya popped up behind Sesshomaru. “He does have a second,” she said. Kaiya shook her head. “You’re kidding right?” she asked both of them. “I can smell it from here. She’s with child. She can’t fight Asa.” Amaya’s eyes narrowed. “I am not kidding,” she said icily. “I have every right to be the one who kills Asa. He took away my purity! He forced me to become pregnant with his pup!” Tears were streaming down her cheeks and she broke down crying. Kaiya caught her and hugged her. “Why?” Amaya sobbed. “Why did he do that to me? I didn’t hurt him. I don’t understand.” Kaiya held her niece and whispered and cooed words of comfort to her. “He’s jealous that’s why he hurt you,” Kaiya explained. “He’s jealous of your father and of your brother and of you.” Amaya slowly ceased crying. A look of anger formed on her face. “He will pay for his crimes.” Kaiya smiled uneasily. She could see her niece would do anything for vengeance.
The day of the challenge came two days after. Many gathered to watch their lord tear Asa apart. Sesshomaru stood in the middle of the field, Amaya behind him and to the side. Asa entered the field alone. He had refused to have a second. He said he was too powerful to need that. Asa wore a black haori and black hakama. He removed his haori and tossed it aside. He had a cocky smirk across his lips. Sesshomaru growled at Asa and Amaya did the same. Sesshomaru launched himself at Asa and tackled him, his fangs latched around his neck, his claws digging into his shoulders. Asa threw Sesshomaru off him and Sesshomaru flew across the field, knocked out. Amaya stepped in and tackled Asa when his back was turned. Her eyes were the color of blood, as she dug her long sharp claws into his neck. He screamed in pain and punched her, hoping to loosen her grip on his throat. This action only succeeded in tightening her grip. Blood trickled from around where her claws dug into his throat. She growled at him in anger. “You took away my innocence,” she growled. “You forced me to lay with you. How dare you hurt me? How dare you?!” She removed her hand from his throat and stuck her claws deep in his chest and slashed it open. Asa screamed in pain and stuck his claws deep in her side and blood trickled down. She took her hand and gripped his heart. She ripped his heart from his chest and tossed it away. As Asa breathed his last breaths, he looked Amaya in the eyes. “Well it seems you took after me,” he uttered and went limp, his hands fell from her side. “I am nothing like you,” Amaya growled. She dug her claws into his neck and ripped his throat apart, just to feel his blood running between her fingers. Sesshomaru came up behind her and put a hand on her shoulder. She looked up at him, the red faded from her eyes. She looked at the blood on her claws, the corpse that lay before her. “Did I do that?” she asked. Sesshomaru nodded. Amaya couldn’t believe it. She stared at the corpse. Sesshomaru melted the body with his poison. Amaya stared the whole. She looked at her claws. They were covered in blood, they reeked of it. Amaya couldn’t believe it. She had never so brutally taken a life before, even in the heat of battle her demon had never come out like that. She was afraid. What if this happened when her pup was born? What if she was so angered by the pup that she killed it? She began to shake in fear.
Sesshomaru saw his sister trembling and took her in a hug. He knew that seeing what she had done scared her. “It’s ok,” he whispered. “I won’t let that happen to you again.” Amaya nodded. “What if…” She couldn’t finish. Her breathing became more difficult and she felt a sharp pain in her side. She blacked out from a mix of fear and pain.
