Chapter 1: The Boy Who Changed Everything

“It says here that you danced hip hop with the Banshou Company,” the older man said. He looked at the 18 year old girl, a pretty thing in her practice outfit.
She smiled at him, her eyes brightening. “Yes. I spent four years there, two as a student, and two as an assistant teacher.” She laughed a little. “I must seem so silly to you. You must also be wondering why I made the drastic change…” she leaned down comfortably to straighten the ties of her toe shoes. “It happened the year that I was to take over the hip hop class…”

“One, two, three, four, five, turn, one, two, three, stop. Jump back; keep your elbows in…” Kagome basically shouted at the teens that were practicing their recital piece. “Kagura! You’re not trying hard enough to touch the ground!” She clapped her hands twice, and the teacher shut the music off as Kagome walked over to the pale girl. She stood at an uneasy stance, her arms locked behind her back.
“Here, like this.” Kagome did the steps slowly enough so she could watch and pick up the piece that she was missing. “One, two, three, four, five, turn, one two three times, stop. Jump back, sliiiddde down to your knees, pound your fists against the ground, go up, down, up down, roll onto your back and kick towards the sky, get up and step forward, twist your hips…” Kagome said, doing each action she stated. Kagura nodded her head as she watched her foot tapping out the beat as she did the steps.
When she was done, Kagome was flat on her back, her knees tucked under her, breathing heavily. It had been ages since she herself had done the routine. The teacher clapped, as did the rest of the students. Miroku, one of the male students, helped her up and she smiled gratefully at him, rubbing her back.
“I’ll take it from her Kagome…there’s a new student in my office. Perhaps you’d like to go get some water and meet with him? He’ll be in this class for the next few months…” Kaede said the real instructor.
Kagome nodded her head and bowed to the older more experienced woman. “Thank you, ma’m.”
She turned smartly and walked a little stiffly to the door, opening it and closing it without disturbing the rest of the students. She went over to the little fountain, pushing the button for the water, and leaned down low enough to let it spray on her throat. It trickled down her practice clothing, the tight Lycra soaked already with sweat that came with practicing in the hot dance rooms. She sighed with relief as its icy touch cooled her flaming skin. She then took a sip of the water and finally went to Kaede’s office.

Inuyasha sighed boredly as he sat in the uncomfortable plastic chairs in Madame Kaede’s office. He hoped the old broad would be done with the hip hop class soon so he could get registered into the company and start practicing the hip hop routine that was going to be put on in three weeks.
He was startled out of his seat when he saw a girl, maybe two years younger than him, enter the office waiting area. Her hair, which was long and dark as onyx, was pulled up, her bangs plastered to her forehead with sweat. Her body was covered with sweat in fact. She was wearing Lycra clothing, a tight half shirt and tight pants in fact. She was smiling and chatting with the young secretary who had let Inuyasha into the main office. She was beautiful, in that kind of young way. He smiled to himself and then turned around in his seat.

Kagome stopped and chatted with Rin for a few minutes, getting the file on the young man who waited in the office. She caught a glimpse of silvery white hair through the narrow window above the seats in Kaede’s office.
She smiled to herself and ended the conversation with Rin and went into the office. She didn’t look at the boy, just looked at the hefty file in her hand and then turned and sat on the edge of Kaede’s desk. The boy turned out to be more of a man. His eyes were like golden embers of a fire. Kagome blushed and opened the file.
“Inuyasha Shikon?” She said, looking at the first page of what looked like a long resume.
He nodded his head. “You must be Kaede…I thought she was…well...older…” He said, standing. He extended his hand and Kagome laughed a little.
“Actually, I’m Kaede’s teacher assistant, Kagome Higurashi,” she said smiling at him kindly and shook his hand lightly. The touch sent a roll of shivers down her spine. She took her hand back and scratched the back of her head lightly.
“So…you studied at…Hiroshima Ballet Company…? Huh?” She looked him up and down. “…Sorry. It’s just…this is a hip hop company…Are you sure you want to be here? Wouldn’t you rather go to...I don’t know…the Hoshi Ballet Company?” She said, tapping one of her slender fingers against her temple.
“Well actually, I’ve gone really far in ballet…and I hurt myself you see and to get my strength back up, one of my teachers recommend that I stay away from ballet for awhile...try something easier like hip hop…” He didn’t really get to finish the explanation because Kagome snorted loudly.
“I really think you’re in the wrong place if you think hip hop is easy,” she said, smiling wryly at him.
“Well it must be if little 16 year olds are being allowed to teach it,” he retorted with a smirk.
“I’ll have you know that I’ll be 17 soon!” She said, stamping her foot. Realizing how childish it was, she stopped the action and let out a frustrated sigh. “Kaede will be in shortly. I was just here to check you out.” She dropped the thick file on the desk with a solid thunk and left, her body stiff with anger.
