Chapter 3: Would-be Orphan

Kagome mopped her forehead with the back of her hand.
Inuyasha had gone to get some water from the fountain for them both. Pulling the Lycra suit away from her skin she fanned herself desperately. "Ugh...I'm so sweaty."
Inuyasha came back in, balancing four dixie cups full of the water. Kagome laughed a little at his face. He was biting his tongue, which was hanging outside of his mouth, his face screwed up in concentration. The music had been shut off long ago.
He slowly lowered himself to the ground in front of Kagome and sighed with relief at not spilling a drop. Kagome took two the small cups, sipping at one and pouring the other down the front of her shirt.
Inuyasha swallowed hard and looked away, gulping down the water. His face was red from the heat, so she couldn't see the slight blush. Kagome sighed with relief. "That's so much better."
Clearing his throat Inuyasha said, "So you've always danced hip hop?"
"Yeah...this is my escape actually from everything else." She said, setting down the now empty cups.
"From those evil rich parents that keep you locked away like Rapunzel in a tower?" He said, teasingly.
Kagome didn't say anything first, just stood up and walked over to the bar on the mirror that ran the length of the wall. She rested her hands on the bar, pushing against it and stretching a little. "Actually...my dad died a long time. My mom...is dying. She use to be a dancer..." She said, her voice quiet.
"Oh...wow...I'm sorry Kagome. I feel like an ass now," Inuyasha said
She shrugged. "I've just kind of learned to live with it. Soon, she'll be in a better place...and me? I'll be...okay. I'll be okay." She sounded as if she was trying to convince herself, not Inuyasha.
He nodded, standing slowly after setting the little cups on the ground.
"You want to know a secret?" Inuyasha said, standing next to her, leaning his back against the mirror.
"What?" she said, turning her head to look at him with her big soulful eyes.
"My parent's are never home. So it's like I'm an orphan. They are too busy globetrotting for their sons," he said, his voice rough.
"You have a brother? Older or younger?" she said, smiling.
"Older. His name is Sesshoumaru..."
"Oh! I know him!"
"You do? How?" he said, looking confused. His brother had always been a very big recluse.
"He use to come by here alot, take a few classes of hip hop here and there..." she said, smiling.
"Sesshoumaru? Dancing?" Inuyasha broke into a fit of laughter. "I had no idea that he even knew what music was!" He laughed harder, holding his sides.
Kagome smiled, noticing for the first time he wasn't wearing a shirt. His body was well muscled, glistening slightly with sweat. She swallowed hard and blushed slightly, remembering him dancing to her so closely.
Inuyasha smiled, his laughter coming to an end finally.
"You know..." he started, feeling a little unsure. "you should really look into ballet...I mean...you're such a good dancer...you can stretch so well, and your body is almost...made for it." He said, shuffling his feet a little.
Kagome quirked an eyebrow. "Me? Ballet? Pfft that'll be the day! I wouldn't be caught dead in a puffy pink tutu doing OOO LOOK AT ME! I'M DANCING ON MY TOES!" To prove a point, she pulled her shoes off quickly and went up on her toes, walking on them.
Inuyasha blinked a few times as she pulled off a few turns on them also. "Whoa."
Kagome stopped. "What?"
"I've never seen any girl do that without Pointe shoes!" He said. "This is what I mean! You should be practicing ballet! I could teach you everything I know while I'm here," he said wincing at the offer, feeling a rush of embarassment come on.
"No thanks Inu-buddy. I have too much to do. The hip-hop recital is coming up too soon and I've got too many kids that need my help. Maybe after the recital..." But she didn't mean the last part. She would never tell him that her mother had been a ballet dancer, before the cancer had struck her. She didn't want to be apart of that world, ever.
