“Kagome!” Inuyasha ran over to her on the ground.

Kagome sat up and hissed at the pain she felt in her elbow. “Itai.” She mumbled as she nursed her wound.

“What happened? Are you alright?” Inuyasha asked.

“I'm fine, I guess I rolled around too much and tangled the blankets around my legs. When I woke up from a bad dream I overreacted and fell out of bed.” Kagome blushed lightly.

Inuyasha's jaw dropped, he'd run in the room thinking her life was in danger and she just fell out of bed...He couldn't do anything but laugh. “It's not that funny Inuyasha.” Kagome stood up and crossed her arms.

Inuyasha's reaction was to stand up and embrace her. “I guess I just never realized how much of an influence you made on me. When I ran in here I thought he'd come back.” Inuyasha sighed. “I almost had a heart attack.”

“Oh come on, no one will blame you if I die. It'll be my own fault.” Kagome said.

“Don't talk like that.” Inuyasha narrowed his eyes at her as he removed her from his embrace. “That crazy psycho ex-lover of yours needs to be taught a lesson.”

“We never dated!” Kagome shouted. “I don't know how many times I have to tell you!”

“Alright I'll drop it.” Inuyasha chuckled. “I'll leave it for now but I'm still angry at you. Now get some fucking rest and we'll talk when you wake up.”

Kagome nodded and laid down onto the bed to sleep. She was still exhausted but there was something about her dream that seemed unusual. Usually she didn't dream and if she did it was usually a sign of bad things to come. She brushed it off thinking it was just paranoia of all the things that happened so far.

“We've been through this already, can we drop it?” Kagome pleaded. She was sitting on the couch next to Inuyasha. As soon as she'd woken up he brought her in the living room to interrogate her and get her to agree on `safety measures'.

“No, if you ever want to go out again you'll repeat my rules.” Inuyasha folded his arms. “If I have to I'll resort to an all out house arrest.”

Kagome rolled her eyes. “Alright, I agree to never leave your side or line of sight, I won't sneak off on my own, I won't talk to strangers, I won't eat anything given to me other than you, Sango or Miroku, and I promise to be alert at all times possible.”

“Good.” Inuyasha nodded. “Now about what happened, I know we've been through it before but all the results from processing came back inconclusive so all we have is what you were there for.”

“I don't think I have any pictures of him. There's a slim chance I still have at the shrine but I'm not allowed to go back there. I've never felt anything like that from him before so he either acquired that power recently or he's strong enough to block it from me.” Kagome shivered. “But I've never been in a situation where I wasn't able to repel someone away from me. Even if I couldn't repel him there should have been some visible power from me but when he released that powder there was nothing.”

Kagome looked off out the window. “He said he'd be back for my answer.”

Inuyasha put a hand on hers. “As long as I'm here he won't get to you. We just need to be cautious and if at any point something seems off or if you feel someone is following you, no matter how small let me know.” Inuyasha explained. “We have plenty of resources still available to keep you safe.”

“I need to go to the shrine and look for the picture if there's anything.” Kagome said seriously. “I need to gather a few things as well. If he's coming back I need to be well prepared for his arrival. Everything he did that night seemed so effortless. He might be even stronger than I could tell. I still don't know what his true motives are for the stone.”

“It won't matter. We'll have his ass locked up before he can do anything.” Inuyasha said. He caught the familiar scent of Miroku at the door and got up before he knocked on it.

“Well, Sesshomaru told me the results were no good so I thought I'd stop by and bring the book at least.” Miroku said and in a whisper told him, “I also brought Kagome's case file.”

Inuyasha nodded and let him in. “With you being up on your feet I'd assume your doing well?” Miroku asked Kagome.

“I'm fine, thank you.” Kagome said. “What book did you bring?”

“One we received information on the jewel about.” Miroku answered. “I received it from your grandfather. The more we know about the jewel the better.”

“I could've told you the story about that.” Kagome said. “I found that book in the well house of the shrine.”

“I only know the short version.” Inuyasha said.

“If you would care to tell us then Kagome.” Miroku asked.

“It started in the Sengoku Jidai era, there was a temple that was built in order to protect Japan but invading forces were slowly beginning to win the battle. Four priestesses, in one last attempt to ban the enemy sacrificed their lives in order to create the Shikon no Tama. There was a fifth priestess who they gave the duty of protecting the jewel once they were gone. The enemy slowly began losing the battle and eventually gave up when they realized a holy power was forcing them away.” Kagome said.

“Who were the enemy?” Miroku asked.

“It was never made clear.” Kagome frowned. “No matter where I looked they were always referred to as the enemy.”

“Go on with the tale.”

“Well with the remaining priestess as the protector the jewel was then passed down to other powerful mikos after training.” Kagome explained. “But one priestess who received the jewel next fell in love, and the sole duty of the protector was to do that very thing and nothing else. She rebelled and ran off with her love only to be betrayed by him. He was hired by youkai to steal the jewel but the man devised a plan to have her fall in love so he could get it easily. When she realized the trap that had been set by him she cried and sacrificed herself taking the jewel with her.”

“So the jewel never reappeared until now?” Miroku asked.

“From what I've read, yes.” Kagome answered. “I'm the first miko to be reincarnated with the jewel.”

“What exactly does the jewel's power do?” Miroku asked.

“It grants whatever wish the beholder wants.” Kagome said. “In Naraku's case he wants more power.”

“Can't the jewel be destroyed?” Miroku asked.

Kagome shook her head. “I've tried to research if they've done it, but so far the only attempt didn't work and they hadn't found any way too. The only successful thing was to sacrifice the priestess but it would come back with the priestess's reincarnation.”

“The jewel seems to be protected by a holy power.” Miroku said.

“Youkai can taint the jewel if they wanted to. It hasn't happened yet, but if it were to get into the wrong hands then they could use the jewel for evil.” Kagome said. “It hasn't been in the wrong hands yet so I don't know exactly what would happen.”

“We'll just have to make sure nothing happens.” Inuyasha said.

“I need to find a way to destroy it so no one can use it.” Kagome closed her hand into a fist. “I need to get the other half back from Naraku.”

“When we catch the bastard we'll get it back.” Inuyasha put the book onto the table.

“Ah well for the time being I think you should get some rest Kagome.” Miroku said. “It's been a very busy time for you.”

“I need to get permission to visit the shrine. I need to find a picture of Naraku.” Kagome grabbed the blanket near her and wrapped it around herself. “If there's any chance of finding him, then I need to find it.”

“You have a picture of him?” Miroku asked.

“It's a slim chance that I have one.” Kagome said. “Some tourist took a Polaroid and gave it to me, but I don't know if I still have it.”

“The only way to get over there is if you get special clearance from Sesshomaru.” Miroku said.

“I'm not calling him. You call his ass.” Inuyasha threw the phone at him.

“Of course, you only speak to him when he's getting you out of trouble.” Miroku sighed but took out his cell phone.

“If we go that means you stay in my sight at all times. The moment I can't see you we're fucking leaving.” Inuyasha pointed at her.

“Alright.” She rolled her eyes.

“He said he'll give us clearance today but he's going to meet us there in an hour to talk to Kagome.” Miroku put his phone in his pocket and stood up. “Shall we?”

After three stories of stairs Kagome stood in front of her house staring, it hadn't been long but she missed it. She pulled the keys out of her pocket and went to the front door. “It's amazing how many of these are still around.” Miroku said.

“I have a few people who make generous donations.” Kagome explained as she opened the door. “I wouldn't be surprised if the other shrines also got help.”

“How do you run this by yourself?” Inuyasha asked.

“There isn't too much to do.” Kagome said. “During holidays and festivals I just hire people. I'm going to check the well house and see if there are any photo albums.”

“You keep photo albums stored away?” Miroku asked.

“I can't say I have too many and I didn't really unpack them.” Kagome said and slid opened the now unlocked door. “I haven't had the best of memories so there's not much to look back on.”

Inuyasha glared at Miroku for making him bring it up. “Well it's not about past memories its about the ones your going to make in the future am I right?” Miroku said trying to redeem himself.

“I don't know about that you don't have to live with Inuyasha.” Kagome laughed.

“Oi it's not that bad.” Inuyasha crossed his arms. “Where should we start?”

The well house was filled with boxes. “I'd start with anything that has my name on it. Everything else is Ji-chan's.” Kagome pulled a box down and began removing more. “He stored it here when he was unable to keep up with the shrine.”

“He doesn't know where you live does he?” Miroku asked.

“I didn't move here until a little while ago so he wouldn't know where I live now. He didn't know where I lived back then either.” Kagome frowned as she began going through her things. She was wondering why she didn't throw half the junk away. She'd already come across a box full of old clothes, another box full of old posters and other various things she now called junk. She sighed and started sifting through another. “Any luck yet?”

“Nothing yet.” Miroku replied.

“Why do you have so much junk?” Inuyasha asked.

“I don't know actually. That's probably why it's out here.” Kagome threw another box to the side. “I don't think it's in here then.”

“Do you think it's in your house or that you don't have it?” Miroku asked.

“If it's anywhere in my house it'd be in my room.” Kagome said. “But I haven't slept in there for a while now.”

“You don't sleep in your own room?” Inuyasha asked.

“I usually just fell asleep on the couch or something.” Kagome stood up and headed for the house. “Let's go inside, maybe I can grab a couple of things that I could use while I'm at your place.”

They walked into Kagome's house which was fairly old fashioned. The rooms were separated by screen doors that were all shut. They walked through the main hallway to the upstairs which the rooms here were separated by doors. “This is my room.” Kagome opened the door and almost fell to her knees when she saw what...not what...who was in there.

“Hello Kagome.”

There he was, Naraku was sitting in her desk chair with the very picture they'd been looking for in his hands.

This chapter is kind of short but I thought it was a good place to stop. I'll try to make the next one sooner or longer whichever.
