Dangerous Case

Chapter 6

Apparition

The week flew by without any issues for Kagome. She was starting to feel like things were settling down but there was always the dreaded feeling of what was to come. Naraku had to be stopped but she didn't know how to do it. Every time she tried to think of something frustration took over and Inuyasha would look over at her in concern, an expression he rarely showed. She tried not to let him see that she was frustrated and wanting to pull her hair out.

Inuyasha did nothing but shuffle around the house all day. He was constantly fidgeting, pacing the room with boredom, or quietly growling to himself. He was partly angry for not being able to stop Naraku and she knew it. Unlike her, anger wasn't something he could hide. It was the only emotion he would show willingly, probably because it intimidated people.

Today was going to be different. She was going out with Inuyasha, Miroku, and Sango to the mall to do some light shopping. Kagome didn't have many clothes to begin with and now she wanted to get some more. She was also beginning to fidget being stuck in the house so often, she originally wanted a girl's day with Sango but of course Inuyasha wouldn't let her go alone, and wherever Sango went Miroku went. Almost like a double date...If she and Inuyasha were dating that is.

Nothing had been said about the two and what their relationship was. Were they just a detective and a witness in an ongoing murder case? Were they friends? Were they and could they be more than just that? Kagome racked her brain for possible answers. Did she want to be more than friends? She did, but she couldn't risk an ongoing case. She was the cause of enough problems she didn't want to make Inuyasha uncomfortable in case he didn't feel the same. But he was sending out mixed signals. She didn't know if he was just irritated from not working, or just mad at her for the present situation.

Kagome sighed and Inuyasha turned to look at her. “You're doing it again.” He said.

“Well so are you.” Kagome said as he paced the room once again. She giggled when he realized it and sat down next to her, which he ended up getting up again since there was a knock at the door.

“Ah Inuyasha you answered the door in a somewhat...reasonable matter...” Miroku said. “I'm confused are you really Inuyasha?”

His answer was slamming the door on his face. “That's him alright.” Sango said and smacked him in the head. Inuyasha opened the door again.

“Oi, get your shit and let's go.” Inuyasha called out to Kagome.

She rolled her eyes and did what he said. “I suppose we could head to the mall and grab something to eat as well.” Sango said.

“Anything.” Kagome said and looped an arm through Sango's so they could walk ahead together.

“Women.” Inuyasha snorted.

“I would say something but of course Sango would...” Miroku coughed. “Well she would hit me.”

“Your fucking whipped Miroku.” Inuyasha shut the door behind him.

“Oh, I get the feeling you'll learn what it is soon.”

“What are you talking about?” Inuyasha asked.

“You and Kagome of course, have things been developing well?” Miroku asked.

“Things aren't developing at all.”

“And why not? She seems like the type of girl that has the feistiness that you'd like.”

Inuyasha didn't answer and just unlocked the door for everyone.

“Will you just pick a fucking outfit so we can get the hell out of here?” Inuyasha was growing irritated. The mall was crowded, noisy, and if one more person bumped into him, he swore he was going to punch them in the face.

Kagome turned around and glared at him but continued on with her shopping. She hadn't bought much. She really just wanted the freedom of being able to walk around out of the house around other people, being somewhat normal for just a little while.

“Alright let's go grab something to eat then.” Kagome said. They walked to the food court together which was just as busy. It was a miracle they had found a table at all. “Figures the one day I get to go out its unpleasant with all these people around.”

“It's like that all the time on the weekend.” Sango said.

“But it was your only day off and I wasn't staying in the house again.” Kagome sighed. As she looked around the crowd she noticed something. In the crowds of people who were constantly walking she noticed a figure standing still, almost looking towards her. And then she realized it was Naraku. He was standing alone, ignoring the people around him. He stuck out a little since he was wearing a full black suit with his long hair pulled back into a low loose pony tail.

“Kagome?”

“Hmm?” She turned towards Inuyasha as he called out her name.

“I asked if you were alright.” He said.

Kagome looked back towards where Naraku was. “Yea I'm fine.” She replied. Naraku was gone. “I'm going to grab something to eat then.”

“Don't g-”

“I know don't go far.” Kagome interrupted him. The group split up to grab something to eat since they all wanted different food. She walked around to see what there was to eat and backed up into someone. “Oh, I'm sorry.”

“Kagome?”

“Hojo?” Kagome asked surprised. “When did you get back?”

“Today actually, the case went through so I don't have to protect the witness anymore.” Hojo said. Hojo was a tall tanned guy. He towered over her and had short black hair. He was Kagome's previous body guard that her grandfather had hired. He hugged Kagome tightly. “I missed you.”

“Who the fuck is this?”

Kagome let go and turned to find a very pissed off Inuyasha. “I told you to stay close and you took off.” He grabbed her arm, gently but it had enough force to get his point across.

“Sorry.” She didn't say anything and complied.

“Whoa Kagome this is some bossy boyfriend of yours.” Hojo said. “I didn't think you were the type to be with someone like that.”

“He's not my boyfriend.” Kagome replied. “I'm sorry Hojo I'll have to catch up with you later.”

“I'll see you.” He waved and left.

“Who was that?” Inuyasha asked.

“He was my old bodyguard that my Oji-chan hired.” She replied as she ordered her food.

“Don't go wandering around. It's easy to get lost in a crowd so be careful.” Inuyasha said as he escorted her back to the table.

“Hai, hai.” Kagome sighed. She sat down next to Sango and Inuyasha. She ate her food and was a little quieter than she usually was. She kept looking around for any signs of Naraku and finally convinced herself that she was so worried that she was seeing things.

“Everything alright?” Inuyasha asked.

“I'm fine.” She replied.

Kagome and Inuyasha walked into the apartment and Inuyasha put an arm out in front of her to stop her. “What is it?” She asked.

“There's someone here.” He said.

They heard a giggle and on the couch appeared what looked like a spirit. “What the hell is that?” Kagome took a step back.

“It's a youkai.” He said.

“That is?” She asked.

“There are a few youkai who leave their bodies in search of something more powerful. They can overtake the owner of a body if they aren't strong enough to overcome it.” Inuyasha stepped forward. “What do you want?”

“Oh I think you know.” They heard a ghostly whisper and the white apparition flew around the room before covering Kagome's body.

“Kagome!” Inuyasha shouted as he went to cover her.

She struggled wildly and the apparition screamed before it faded away. “I'm fine.” She said a little shakily. “That was gross.”

“You sure you're alright?” He asked.

She nodded and stood up. “I think I'm just tired. It's been a while since I've gone out.”

“Why don't you go lay down for a while?” He suggested.

“I think I will.” He watched as she made her way to the bedroom. Something was off about her. He shook it off as her just being tired and went around the room making sure the youkai was gone.

Inuyasha sat in front of his laptop looking through his e-mails and felt arms wrap around him. He turned and noticed it was Kagome, which was odd because he didn't hear her get up. “Are you feeling better?” He asked.

“Much.” She replied as she walked around the couch to sit in his lap.

“You don't seem alright.” He replied.

“I'm better than ever.” She took off her sweatshirt and was wearing a tight spaghetti strap tank top without a bra. She leaned over and kissed him.

Inuyasha was slightly surprised at her boldness but wrapped his arms around her. It wasn't too long after he realized something was wrong. She had put a hand down his pants and he pushed her off. “You're not Kagome.” He glared at her.

“It took you a while to notice that.” She stood up and brushed herself off. “Why did you stop? You could've had her, without the struggle or fear of rejection.”

“It's not her.” He replied. “Give her back.”

She pouted. “I know you want her, you left enough of yourself around that I could feel it. Your desire is so strong and it scares you because you haven't known her for long.” She walked over to him. She grabbed his hand and placed it over her breast. “Come on have me, have the little Kagome that you want without restrictions. I can feel it, sense it, smell it, the desire that could break you.”

She moved closer and whispered in his ear. “Come on Inuyasha.” She could feel him shiver and she smiled. “Touch me.” She grabbed his other hand and brought it down her other breast, across her stomach and moaned when she moved it so that it was in between her legs. “Take me.”

Inuyasha picked her up and she wrapped her legs around him. She leaned in for another kiss, but to her surprise she was dumped into the bathtub. “What are you doing?” Her eyes flashed red as she screamed.

“I did a little research on how to get rid of you.” Inuyasha turned on the cold water.

Kagome screamed and moved into the fetal position. The ghostly trail of the apparition left her body and the screaming stopped. He turned off the water as Kagome regained her senses. “What the hell? Why am I wet in the shower?” She asked.

“I'll explain after you've dried off.” Inuyasha handed her a towel.

Kagome turned so pink as Inuyasha explained what happened. She couldn't think of anything to say. “I did that?” Was all she could muster.

“Yea.” Inuyasha sat with his arms folded. He shuffled uncomfortably still trying to hide his excitement. Even if it wasn't Kagome it was still her body and her face.

“How did you get rid of her?” She asked.

“The cold water is a shock to the body and forces the dormant to come out.” Inuyasha explained. “I don't know what she wanted but she probably won't be back.”

Kagome still couldn't look at Inuyasha in the face. She couldn't believe she did those things...even if it technically wasn't her. “I guess I'll go to bed.” She walked over to the room and stopped in the doorway. “Thanks Inuyasha.”
