Chapter 11: Perfect
.
.
.
Naraku nuzzled the unwilling Kagome’s neck again.
Blue eyes met lavender.
Kagome would give anything at that moment to be out of Naraku’s arms and into Inuyasha’s. That’s because, there, she’d find the safety and comfort she desperately needed at the moment.
Inuyasha took a step forward and ground out, “What are you doing?”
Naraku looked up and smirked. “Who are you?”
“I’m Kagome’s friend!” Inuyasha stated without a beat. Somewhere deep inside Kagome’s mind, she smiled, ‘At least we’re getting somewhere!’
Naraku’s smirk was replaced be a scowl. “Kagome doesn’t need friends. She has me.”
One of his arms held her tighter while the other reached upward and grabbed her chin. Naraku forcefully tilted Kagome’s face over her left shoulder and he brought his lips down onto her. Hard. Kagome felt her lips bruise under the unwanted contact.
Naraku let her go and walked backwards. “I’ll be watching Kagome, I’ll be waiting for you and your gift.” And then he was gone.
Inuyasha strode forward, scowling and growling in a dog-like fashion. Kagome turned her head back around and tipped her face up to his and Inuyasha only saw hurt and fear in her blue orbs.
Her face remained blank as she ran over the last three or four minutes through her paralyzed mind. Suddenly tears formed and she lunged into Inu’s chest and wrapped her arms around his waist. Burying her face into his chest, she sobbed.
Kagome was confused.
Was happiness with Naraku, where she could have anything she wanted? Where she could stay by his side and help him, by being there and allowing him to get his frustration out?
Or was happiness with Inuyasha and Sango and Miroku, where she felt safe and could have fun?
Was love what she felt with Naraku?
Or was it the feeling she got from her son and brother?
Kagome felt a strong arm wrap around her lower back and a hand start to pat the back of her crying head. Inuyasha was blushing from the close contact and chewing his cheek to keep from shouting at her from being stupid enough to get caught with that asshole.
Kagome suddenly disentangled her arms and bounded back into the ladies restroom. Inuyasha leaned against the wall to wait, expecting her to take quite awhile, and was surprised when she walked back out in under a minute.
She had splashed cold water on her to cover up the red from crying and had fixed her hair and make up. The one thing she couldn’t fix was the fear in her blue eyes.
Inuyasha led them back to the table and kept silent, a hard thing for him to do. They sat down on their cushions and Shippou bounced into Kag’s lap.
Souta grinned, “What took you so long?”
Kagome grumbled, “I fell in.”
Souta’s, Rin’s, and Shippou’s laughter was contagious and Kagome found herself reluctantly grinning.
For a moment two eyes met, this time gold and lavender. Sesshoumaru understood from the anger in his younger brother’s eyes that something happened, something bad, and the gold eyes narrowed. Inuyasha nodded slightly to show he’d explain later.
They all left with different moods that evening: Inuyasha in anger, Sesshoumaru in curiosity, Rin in tiredness, Souta in happiness, Shippou in sleep, and Kagome in fear.
.

.
The weekend went with no more incidents, Sango and Miroku were told of Naraku’s visit.
Kagome went back to work and began her second week, each day a little more distractedly and distant.
No one noticed though, everyone was busy setting up for the company’s annual party to celebrate the start of fall.
Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha said nothing and were kept busy with new business deals and organizing the ball.
And Inuyasha was having the hardest time coming up with a theme, especially since the party was that weekend.
.
---
.
“Comment est-ce que une francaise boeum?” Nazuna asked as she laid the food that she was delivering onto Inuyasha’s desk.
“What?” Inuyasha asked dumbfounded.
Nazuna rolled her eyes and smacked her gum, “I asked, roughly, ‘How about a French party?’.”
“Nazuna, we’re Japanese, not French.” Inuyasha sighed.
The brunette shrugged. “Whatever. I thought it was a good theme.” She then waltzed out the door, still chewing her gum.
.
---
.
“Animals?” Ayame asked dreamily as her eyes glazed over in thought of her beloved wolf.
“No.” Inuyasha stated as he sent his employee out the door.
.
---
.
“How about the power of love?” a naïve Hojo asked dreamily, thinking of a certain ebony haired beauty.
“How ‘bout no.”
.
---
.
Inuyasha sighed. No one could come up with an idea and it was Friday. The party was on Sunday and everyone would have Monday off. Sesshoumaru had ordered all the food and drinks and everything else.
Now all they needed was a theme for Inuyasha to decide, so the thousands of employees could go out and pick up their costumes.
Kagome came in and laid the newest folder on Inuyasha’s desk.
“Hey Kag? What do you think the theme for the party should be?” Inuyasha asked, defeated.
The confusion that had been clouding her eyes cleared for a second and Kagome slowed her movements. Thinking deeply with her head bowed, she was struck with an idea.
Looking up she suggested, “How about the Feudal Era?”
“Perfect.”
.
---
.
“Miroku,” Inuyasha warned.
“Don’t worry, for the moment I have the whole fiancée thing under control!” Miroku exclaimed, obviously proud of himself. “I’ll be coming and Kaharu will stay home.”
“Good, I don’t want a moping Sango around and there’s only so much alcohol can do.”
Miroku rolled his eyes on the other end of the line. “Yeah. Whatever.”
.
---
.
Inuyasha watched everyone drinking, eating, and dancing.
He was leaning against the far wall beside his older half sibling to get a good view of the party. Sesshoumaru was wearing a white silken hakama pants and a matching white haori shirt. Old fashion battle armor adorned his front.
Inuyasha had died his hair a matching silver and had golden contacts made to match his brother. He wore blood red hakama and haori with a white kimono top underneath. He smirked as he watched all the people enjoying the amazing party.
Everyone was wearing old-fashioned kimonos and old peasant’s clothes. A ton of drinking and eating was going on so they were all in good moods.
It was like a grown up Halloween.
Inuyasha watched as Sango and Miroku crept in. Miroku was wearing purple and black monk’s robes that had been given to him in honor of his heritage. He carried a tall gold staff with rings on top that had been passed down to him through centuries.
Sango walked in wearing a skintight black pantsuit with bright, floral patterned, pink armor in the front and on her shoulders, knees, and elbows. He long hair was pulled back in its usual ponytail and she had magenta eye shadow over each eye that set off her magenta orbs.
She even had Kirara perched on her shoulder and a katana at her side.
The two smiling people walked over to their best friend and began to chat.
.
---
.
The door cracked open a little more as the young woman watched the party goers.
She couldn’t do this.
Actually she could.
But she wouldn’t.
Deep breath. ‘In with the pink, out with the blue,’ the woman thought. Giggling for the first time in a week, she calmed down a bit.
She opened the door quietly and tried to creep in unnoticed.
Too late.
“HEY KAGOME!” a rather drunk, happy Hojo shouted.
Kagome mentally slapped herself.
Quite a few people in the room turned to greet their friendly colleague, and were inevitably surprised at what she saw.
Kagome had her long, dark tresses tied back with a single white ribbon. A white haori adorned her chest and loose, wide legged, untied blood red hakama adorned her bottom half. The outfit greatly set off her tiny waist, long legs, and creamy complexion.
The men nudged their friends to look at the blue eyed female so they wouldn’t have to drool alone, and women nudged each other to start gossiping, a bit jealous of the young girl.
Kagome blushed and bit her lip but continued in to find Sango to chat with. Sango was drinking some (spiked) punch.
“Hey! You look pretty good as a miko, Kag!” she laughed. Alcohol didn’t work well on her, so she still had her wits.
“Thanks. Great outfit. You look rather well as a legendary youkai slayer!” Kagome complimented back.
“Thanks.” Sango grinned.
“Welcome, Lady Kagome,” Miroku said with a sweeping bow.
“Good evening, Miroku!” Kagome pushed her problems aside. The happy mood was just too much to keep from being cheerful.
“Excuse me,” an emotionless drawl quieted the room and everyone looked up at Sesshoumaru, their employer.
Inuyasha smirked as he took the floor. “Everyone, now its time for my favorite part!” His boyish smirk turned into a greedy grin. “The gifts!”
Everyone looked at each other confused. “Gifts?” Asked Ayame.
Inuyasha rolled his eyes. “Of course gifts! My secretary went shopping for each of you yesterday. Isn’t that right, Ms. Shashu?”
“Yeah, and my feet are STILL killing me!” Kagome called out. The audience laughed before launching themselves at the pile of wrapped packages in the corner they had over looked.
Kagome picked her way through the crowd to find four packages.
Running back to the food table, she handed one each to Sango and Miroku. “Here you go!”
“What? We’re not employees!” Sango eyes were widened in amazement.
Kagome rolled her eyes and motioned for them to open their presents.
Sango pulled out her gift first. It was a mask used in the feudal era to keep poison from entering a person’s lungs. “Wow,” she breathed.
Kagome laughed. “I knew you’d like it! I had a trunk of stuff from my old home, and I found this! Its an actual mask and was once used by a young woman who’s job was as an assassin in the Era of Warring States. I knew you had a collection of slayers’ items so I grabbed it for you!”
Sango nodded. It was real. Kagome really shouldn’t have given her such a valuable piece of history. She loved it.
As Miroku opened his box, he asked, “Did you bring the trunk with you or something? I don’t remember seeing it.”
Kagome smiled. “Kouga brought my trunk with him, he knew I missed the shrine. The police found it next to him when they delivered him to the hospital and Kouga had it released to me a few days ago.”
“I see,” Miroku stated. He pulled out a purple glove that matched his robes perfectly. Putting it on, he looked at it. The cloth wrapped around his entire arm almost up to his elbow. On top the cloth ended in a triangle that lay over the back of his hand and was attached to his middle finger by a gold ring, and two more triangles on either side wrapped around his palm.
Kagome beamed and reached in again to pull out a set of white prayer beads. She draped them across his purple clad arm. “There you go!”
“Perfect.”
“Its also from that era. A young, male monk wore it to cover a large scar he held from a fight with a evil man. I thought it’d fit you pretty well.”
“Thanks Kagome.”
“Sure, no problem. Hang on, its my boss’ turn next.” Kagome strolled away, leaving her friends to admire there new possessions.
With a long package under each arm, Kagome found the Youkai brothers, who were busy watching their employees ‘ohhh’ and ‘ahhh’ at all the silken and leather items.
“Mr. Youkai,” Kagome nodded to Sesshoumaru. “Your gift.”
Sesshoumaru took the box carefully.
He pulled out a katana, a very expensive, greatly made katana. The hilt was smoothed to perfection and the guard was not dented.
“Tensaiga. It belonged to a great worrier, and is called the Sword of Healing.” Kagome explained to the man.
“Healing?” Sesshoumaru asked pulling the blade out of its mahogany sheath to reveal metal shined to perfection. “Why would someone want a sword of healing, not one for destruction?”
Kagome frowned at his obvious I’d-rather-kill-that-save attitude. “The worrier used the sword to protect his loved ones, not to kill the ones he didn’t ‘like’.”
Sesshoumaru nodded to show his acceptance and slid the katana into his belt.
Inuyasha saw it as his turn and slit open his gift. Inside was another katana with the same sleek mahogany sheath, but a ratted hilt. Pulling the blade out he saw more metal shined to perfection, but with many chips on the rather dull edge. “What?”
Kagome smiled. “I always loved the Tetsusaiga, has a personality. It is the Tensaiga’s twin and the worrior’s brother wielded it. Tetsusaiga spent more time hacking down enemies than protecting anyone. That’s why it looks like it’s seen better days.”
The longer Inuyasha held his sword, the more he liked it.
“Oh!” Kagome suddenly grabbed the ‘empty’ box and began to dig through it. “One more thing. I felt bad that Sesshoumaru got a better looking sword so I grabbed this!” She triumphantly held up a necklace with maroon beads and fangs adorning it.
Inuyasha took it hesitantly and put it on. He felt like he shouldn’t be happy to see it.
“Story for this one too?” He asked.
Kagome shook her head. “Not that I could find. Apparently an old miko kept it as some kind of ‘safety deposit’ or something.” She shrugged and explained about the trunk.
“Growing up in a shrine is pretty cool,” Kag told the brothers. “I got to learn all kinds of legends and see all kinds of artifacts.”
The four friends and Sesshoumaru talked long into the night while everyone around them got plastered.

Juuroumaru sighed as he watched another boring real of video tape. Suddenly he jumped when he saw what looked like a wild party on the ground floor of the largest office building in Tokyo.
And right in the middle of it was the gorgeous woman that his boss and sisters had asked him to look for.
Only took him a little more than a week to find her too!
It helped to be a whiz at hacking systems to get to look at security tapes. Easier to find missing broads.
Picking up the phone he dialed Kagura.
“I found her,” he said as soon as she answered.
“Fine,” Kagura sighed as she heard the news. Her poor brother had to be dragged into this too!
Damn Naraku to hell!
“I’ll report to Naraku. He’ll want to know how Kagome is.” Kagure growled.
Juuroumaru ran a hand through his died purple hair. “Good luck with that, be careful Kagura.” He added before hanging up.
Now that his part was done he could go back to doing his actual job.
Teaching a computers class at a junior high.
.
---
.
Kagura hung up. At least now Juuroumaru could go on with life.
Kanna wasn’t really involved either, so her family was momentarily safe.
Except for her.
“I’m quitting as soon as this is over, Naraku!” she shouted at the wall.
Once this was all over, for good or bad, she was going to back to a real job. Nothing having to do with murders, drug deals, or stealing precious objects.
Unless she was the one planning it all.
.
---
.
Naraku smirked.
“Got a job now Kagome?” He asked no one in particular.
Good. Now that he knew she was safe, he could worry about other things.
Kagura would just have to track her until he was ready. That would be good enough.
The crimson-eyed man wrote down three things on a pad of paper:
‘Kagome Shashu’
‘Inutaisho Company’
‘Inuyasha Youkai’
Now he could keep track of his love and figure out the perfect time to make his move. Kagura would just have to be disposed of when it was all over, she knew too much.
.
---
.
“Okaa-san?” a little boy whispered.
“Yes Shippou?” a groggy Kagome answered.
“I had a nightmare, could I sleep in here?” Shippou asked.
Kagome smiled and nodded, lifting up the sheets and the boy crawled in next to her. Curling up to her chest he whispered before nodding off, “Thank you.”
Kagome fell asleep with a smile on her face.
Yep.
This was love, she finally decided.
At least one type of love.
.
.
.
Nothing too exciting in this chapter except moving on the plot. Sorry there was no fight scene, but it kind of builds up for the final (drama filled) ending of Naraku.
My creativity always leaves at a bad time. Still many more chapters to go, I might end up dragging a little, but it’ll even itself out in the end, I hope.
My friends, Alma Sol and XxspitfirexX, are rewriting fairy tales with Inu characters. I’m helping them out and will be working on a short, humor filled version of Snow White, but I wont leave this fic hanging!

Once this was all over, for good or bad, she was going to back to a real job. Nothing having to do with murders, drug deals, or stealing precious objects.
Unless she was the one planning it all.
