‘Kagome just admitted she never loved that creep. Finally she gets it through her thick skull. But how am I supposed to forgive her? Why?’ Shaking his head he laid back down and drifted off to sleep.
Its funny how at night, every sound is magnified. Before his mind finally reached blackness, Inuyasha could swear he heard a sweet voice whisper, “Forgive me?”

Chapter 16: Teasing and Kisses
.
.
.
Kagome licked her dry lips. “Inuyasha?” she whispered quietly to the young man in front of her.
“Yeah, Kagome?”
“What are we,” she lost her train of thought as her gaze left his lavender eyes and settled on his lips just a few inches in front of her.
Kagome was currently kneeling and supporting herself with outstretched arms. Inuyasha sat cross-legged less than two feet away and the dark seemed to press in around them. The smooth top of Kagome’s bed felt soft under her touch. The entire home was quiet as it was late at night and the two young adults were talking in Kagome’s room.
“Yes,” Inuyasha urged as he leaned forward slightly to catch her diminishing words.
“Well?” The man watched as Kagome chewed her bottom lip and her blue eyes glazed over as if in a trance. Kagome wasn’t able to get more out than that one word.
As if some unknown force was tugging her toward the man across from her, Kagome slowly began to lean forward. Inuyasha didn’t seem to notice her movement and inched toward her too.
“Kagome?” he whispered as the distance between their faces decreased to only a few centimeters.
Kag ignored his questioning tone and leaned forward to capture his lips, relishing in the thought of kissing him. And just as they touched-
-Kagome woke up.
.

.
Kagome twitched her nose and ran a hand through her damp hair.
Crawling toward the kitchen, she wondered how she was still so cold even with sweatpants and a sweatshirt on. ‘I need to talk Inuyasha into getting a better heater for this place.’
Kagome suddenly blushed at the mention of his name, even if it was only in her own mind. She was still trying to figure out the dream; it definitely was not a normal nighttime vision for her.
Kagome sat on a stool next to her older boss and brought her legs up and wrapped a trembling arm around them. She laid her head on top of her knees. “W-Why are y-you up so early on a S-S-Sunday, Sesshoumaru?” she stuttered.
Sesshoumaru glanced at the freezing girl then returned his penetrating gaze to the business section of the Sunday newspaper. “This Sesshoumaru needs to go into work to finish up a project.” Kagome laughed at his version of Rin’s speech.
“No offense, but I’m surprised I don’t see my breath in here.” Kagome forced out through chattering teeth.
“It’s not that cold but I’ll turn the thermostat up,” Inuyasha told her as he read the comics.
Kagome glanced at him quickly before blushing furiously. Inuyasha looked up in time to notice the pink staining her cheeks. ‘Is she embarrassed about apologizing last night?’
Sesshoumaru got up to leave and Kagome told him goodbye. She was glad that it was Sunday and that the rest of the household was sleeping in.
She reached for the pot of tea in hopes that the drink would warm her up.
“I’ll get that, you’re shaking too much to pour steady,” Inuyasha told her, trying hard to be polite.
His hand brushed hers and Kag pulled it back as though she had touched a hot flame. She chewed her lip as she tried to hide her blush at the contact.
Inuyasha looked up startled and frowned at her blush. ‘What the hell is wrong with her? Why is she so embarrassed? Kami! And they say my emotions are hard to predict. I DO NOT have an uncontrollable temper!’ he kept ranting in his mind as he handed over the full mug.
Kagome smiled weakly at his attempt to be nice and gratefully began to sip the steaming liquid.
“Kagome?”
Kagome jumped at her name being spoken in the same way as in her dream and the tea spilled all over her hand. “OUCH!” she began to blow on her swollen red flesh.
Inuyasha jumped up and grabbed a washcloth and soaked it in freezing water so she could cool down the burn. “Sorry,” he muttered.
Kagome blushed as she wrapped her hand in the soothing cloth. “Thanks.”
“Uh-huh. Kagome?” he tried again to ask about the apology last night.
Kagome jumped up and went past him to try and sneak out the door.
She couldn’t do this! She was being way too jumpy, damn dream! As she walked past, Inuyasha grabbed the wrist of her uninjured right hand.
Kagome paused and glanced at the hand before raising her gaze up to his chin, she refused to look him in the eyes. Inuyasha just sat there watching, ‘What’s wrong with her?’
Kagome made one of the biggest mistakes she had ever made in her entire life: She looked higher.
Her own blue ones narrowed as a ridiculous idea nudged its way to the front of her mind. What would it be like to really kiss him? The idea seemed even wilder now than in her dream. She just wanted to know; it couldn’t do any harm to be curious, right?
Inuyasha gazed back; he had no idea what was running through her mind. Her eyes bothered him. Kagome was looking at him like a cat looks at an unknowing canary. He stood up, not realizing he still gripped her wrist. Kagome followed him with her eyes, the question still bothering her.
Inuyasha had no idea what happened next, by the time he did realize it, it was over.
Kagome took a swift step forward to close the gap between them and reached up her hand, the one he still held onto, to cup his face. Bringing him down to her face, she started a passionate kiss. He, unconsciously, kissed her back tenderly and it lasted for several moments.
Until, that is, Kagome pulled back.
Noticing just now how tall he must really be since she had had to stand on her toes to reach him.
She licked her lips; satisfied that she had gotten it out of her system. She tapped the young man lightly on the cheek with the back of her hand.
Than Kagome walked from the room leaving a stunned Inuyasha standing in the center of his kitchen lightly touching his lips with the pads of several of his fingers.
.
---
.
‘Why’d I have to do that?’ Kagome scolded herself as she helped pull up the dead plants beside Rin in the garden. “Why?” she accidentally asked out loud.
“Why what?” Rin looked up at her.
Kagome glanced down at her. “I just wanted to know why I did something, sorry Rin.”
Rin went back to the dirt and mud. “So why did Aunty Kag do it?” Rin asked, not really caring what ‘it’ was.
Kagome sighed, “I guess I was curious.”
Rin beamed. “Curiosity killed the cat!” she piped up using one of her favorite phrases even though she had no idea what it meant. It just fit.
“And satisfaction brought her back,” Kagome finished, laughing. They went back to getting rid of all the fallen flower petals of the nearby trees.
The question came back to haunt her again. Why? Kagome brushed her worries aside as the answer came to her. ‘I was curious, just like I told Rin. Plus, I needed to.’
Kagome sat back on her rear end and gazed at the cloudy blue sky. ‘I needed to,’ she thought again. ‘I needed to because I haven’t been kissed in a long time. Naraku never kissed me, well besides a small peck on the lips. The dream just gave me the idea.’
“I was afraid I’d forget what it felt like,” she told the white balls of fluff.
“What?”
“Nothing, Rin,” Kagome went back to the gardening.

.
Inuyasha collapsed, scowling, into his leather chair.
‘What in all the hells was that about?’
Kagome had just kissed him and then wandered off!
Of course, Inu was attracted to her. He always had been since he’d first laid eyes on her in his office the day of the parade.
But they had become friends, if grudgingly, and now were housemates and they worked together.
He really liked having Kag around.
She was good to argue with, and she was great cook, and they got along all right.
Except for the whole arguing thing. But he already mentioned he liked that part.
They were friends though, and since he’d decided that, the whole opportunity of acting on his attraction had flown out the window. He’d never enter a relationship with a friend.
‘I might be taking this a little too far...
...All she did was kiss me...
...Not all that big. And she didn’t say anything about ‘feelings’.’
::Shudder::
‘Maybe...just maybe...she didn’t mean anything...maybe she never looked at me like I looked at her when we first met...’
...
...
...
‘Nah!’
Flicking his gaze to the window he tilted his head. He was thinking way too much about this.
‘Wait----she was teasing me! SHIT! If she thinks she can just...’
His mind wandered back to the times in the last three weeks that he had held her when she had cried. Inu wasn’t exactly one to appreciate vulnerability. In fact, he hated it.
‘Definitely thinking too much...she was teasing me...I’ll get her back...fight fire with fire...’ his eyes narrowed and a scowl graced his features as he planned. Thoughts of holding her still lingered though, but far away now.
Inuyasha may not be a touchy-feely person but he knew when to keep silent and help someone out. Of course, he didn’t exactly mind holding her.
Although, not just because she was attractive.
But for another reason.
He swore that no one would ever find out.
NEVER
But he had a confession.
“I, Inuyasha, have a problem. I am a cuddler.” Inu admitted to the empty room.
Yes, the jackass of the hour, the gruff, the great, Inuyasha Youkai, deep down, loved to cuddle.
Not one of his favorite characteristics.
Probably came from being hugged so much as a child by his loving mother.
Inuyasha fell asleep in his office, no longer thinking of the brief contact of the morning as a big deal.
At least he was right about one thing in his lifetime.
.

.
Sango shifted her glance from a certain blue-eyed female to a certain purple-eyed male throughout the entire dinner.
Sesshoumaru, Souta, Shippou, and Rin excused themselves and left Miroku, Sango, Kagome, and Inuyasha to their own devices.
“Um, did anything happen this weekend?”
Kagome and Inuyasha looked up from their plates and shrugged. “Nope,” they told her at the same time.
“Right,” Sango stated before getting back to her meal.
.
---
.
“Twister?” Miroku asked as he rinsed off his dish, hand straying to Sango’s backside in the process.
Kagome eyed him for a minute wondering about the lecherous side of the game before agreeing to it just as Sango smacked him upside the head. “HENTAI!”
Padding softly after them, thoughts of being stuck with Inu for the evening, even though she had come to the conclusion she really didn’t need to worry since the kiss hadn’t meant anything, she ignored Inu’s arm wrapping around her waist.
‘Wench, thinking she can ignore me...!’
Lavender eyes narrowed playfully.
He’d get Kagome back for teasing him that morning.
.
---
.
Several games, and slaps, later the group sat around the coffee table in one of the many living rooms.
“Truth or Dare?”
“Too tacky,” Miroku wrinkled his nose. “What are we, a bunch of school girls?”
‘Mmm, school girls...’
-Rub- -Rub- -Rub-

“HENTAI!!!”

Souta wandered in.
He eyed his sister. “Wanna know a secret?” he asked the other three.
“About what?” Inuyasha asked.
“About Kagome.” Now Inu was interested. “Did you know that I think that Kagome has a cr-”
“SOUTA!”
Souta enjoyed being a pest. He watched his sister’s eyes widen. Lately he’d been happy to see his sister smiling and joking a little more than before. Today, although she did act odd near Inuyasha, she seemed like her old self. Her instant anger and jumpy nerves had disappeared as though she had gotten a big weight off her shoulders. She hadn’t been like that since before Naraku.
And he had a feeling it was something to do with Inuyasha judging by the way that he had been eyeing Kag all day.
“Hey Souta?” Kagome asked sweetly.
“Huh?” Souta grinned at the smile on his sister’s face.
“RUN!”
The other three adults watched in amusement as the woman chased her brother around for several minutes, laughing the entire time. Kag ended up tackling him back in the living room. She began to tickle him.
“KAGOME!” Shippou squealed as he joined the fight and sided with Souta. The boys were able to get Kagome into a position to tickle before she got back at them. It switched back and forth for a while.
Miroku and Sango wandered out, needing to leave to go home but not wanting to ruin the moment.
Inuyasha sighed. It seemed he needed to teach these three.
Inuyasha walked over and pulled the boys off the young woman lying on her back. She eyed him warily and almost jumped when he suddenly straddled her stomach and pinned her arms to her sides with his knees. Inuyasha leaned down till they were almost nose-to-nose. “Now,” he whispered and the other two boys tickled her.
In under a minute they had a screaming Kagome yelling for mercy.
Kagome shoved the man off of her and sent the boys to bed. Inuyasha was laughing from his seat on the floor. “That was too fun.”
Kagome rolled her eyes. “’Night Inuyasha, I’m heading in. I’m pretty tired.”
Inuyasha stopped laughing and grunted. “Whatever.”
Kagome walked past him, and leaned down so her lips were near his ear. “Thanks for this morning,” she whispered huskily.
Inuyasha closed his eyes as he waited for her to leave. It surprised him when he felt the soft flesh of her lips against his cheek.
Turning around he watched her disappearing back.
.
---
.
Kagome shook with silent laughter. ‘Wonder what that made him think?!’
Hopefully, Inuyasha was just as confused as she was. Confusion loves company. ‘Oh wait, that’s misery. Same difference.’
Ignoring the nagging feeling that it wasn’t fair to fill her unoccupied time in confusing her friend, Kagome fell asleep. She needed a hobby and bothering Inuyasha seemed like a good one.
.
---
The smooth top of Kagome’s made bed felt soft under her touch. The entire home was quiet as it was late at night and the two young people were talking in Kagome’s room.
“Yes,” Inuyasha urged as he leaned forward slightly to catch her diminishing words.
“Well?” The man watched as Kagome chewed her bottom lip and her blue eyes glazed over as if in a trance. Kagome wasn’t able to get more out than that.
In less than a second, they were once again locked in a passionate lip-lock.
And then Kagome woke up to Inuyasha shaking her shoulder.
“What?” she asked groggily.
“I had a nightmare, can I sleep with you?” Inuyasha pleaded.
“Shut up, and quit making fun of Shippou!” Kagome growled. Inuyasha laughed.
“Sorry.”
“Sure you are.”
Inuyasha stretched out next to her, sharing her pillow. “Why’d you kiss me?”
Kagome yawned. “Because I felt like it.”
Inuyasha grunted. “That’s what I thought.” He felt Kagome nod next to his head. “’Night, Kagome.”
“What?! You’re not actually going to sleep in here!” Kagome whispered fiercely. Inuyasha just smirked before rolling on his side and wrapping his arms around Kagome’s waist.
‘This is to get you back for your “goodnight”, wench,’ he silently chuckled at her stiff form. ‘Try to make me uncomfortable, will you?’
Kagome mentally threw her hands up. “Ass,” she whispered before falling asleep.
Inuyasha smiled, “Bitch.”
.
---
.
At some point during the night, Inuyasha moved closer to his heat source. ‘Damn, this house IS cold.’
Kagome cracked an eye open. “Would you stop squirming Naraku?” His arms stiffened around her.
‘Wait...
Naraku never snuggled!
...
Who’s in my bed?’ Kagome’s mind thought furiously trying to remember what was going on.
She opened her mouth to scream and felt something clamp down on her lips, bruising them. She stared down at the set of four fingers and a thumb.
Pulling back, Inuyasha whispered, “Shut up! Do you WANT to wake up the whole house?”
Kagome’s eyes widened. “Sorry, Inuyasha. But the last man who-“
“I know.” Inuyasha pulled her closer, still half asleep.
Kagome stiffened. Since when was Inuyasha so understanding?
Rolling her eyes, she let the thought drift away as sleep tugged at her lids.
Kagome relaxed, remembering that she was with a friend and not an enemy. “I’m sorry for kissing you,” she mumbled.
“S’okay, I didn’t mind,” Inuyasha whispered sending chills down her spine. She snuggled closer and he smiled. “’Night, Kagome.”
“’Night, Inuyasha.”
“Hey Kagome?”
“Yeah?”
“I forgive you.”
“Thank you.”
She felt his arms wrap tighter around her. Inuyasha had forgiven her for bringing them all into this. He had forgiven her for believing she loved Naraku when she really didn’t. It felt good to have a friend’s forgiveness.
Especially a good friend’s forgiveness.
.
---
.
“Its time,” Naraku told Kagura emotionlessly. She had no other choice than to nod and begin the plan.
.
.
.
Yep, I know, shorter chapter than usual. But I felt like writing a fluffy chapter to make up for my darker chapters.
::sigh:: NO, THIS CHAPTER WASN’T ONE OF THOSE, “I LOVE YOU” – “I LOVE YOU TOO” CHAPTERS! The entire fluffiness was just the two teasing. The dream kind of reminded Kagome that she hadn’t had a substantial relationship and she needed to feel loved.
Inu didn’t make a big deal because he figured she didn’t mean anything.
The confrontation between Kagome and Naraku is coming!

“Its time,” Naraku told Kagura emotionlessly. She had no other choice than to nod and begin the plan.
