A/n: Thank you sooo much for your reviews. It made me feel so much better to know people cared.

I just wanted to thank alissa for the nice things you said. I didn't want to copy the book to much cause i don't like to steal, plus i had other ideas i wanted to add and i want people to read my own ideas, however crap they may be. I already decided how the love story thing would be right from the start but i wont tell yet... If you wont to know then beg!

Please keep reviewing!!! I have a big assignment so i will only write if i get five reviews. So if you care about finding out more of this story (Or about helping my self confidence which at the moment is very low. That's why i only post my story where no one knows me.) then please keep writing. It feels so nice...

disclaimer: i don't own inuyasha cause Rumiko Takahashi does, i also don't own the book 'daughter of the forest' cause Julliet Marillier does. So i don't claim the storyline or the characters.

On with the fic...

Chapter four- A prisoner of war.

Kagome sighed. she hated this...

Whenever her father returned home he would always interogate her like some kind of criminal. He would ask where she went, what she did, if she was with boys or most importantly in the forest.

"Of course not father" she would say in her formal tone but it was weak just like her ability to lie. He didn't seem to care

His cold gaze gave away nothing. He was trying to hide the fact that she was so beautiful and so perfect and so unable to lie... he could see right through her like kikyo. it hurt to think of her this way. He knew she was always there, in the forest, and that he could never stop her but every now and then, when he had evidence he would give her a scoulding of a lifetime just so she would stay in line.

Right now he tried not to think to much about her appearence or her sweet voice. it was always the same. He would remember to much about her mother and it always hurt. His hatred for the forest and the spirits would always flare up again. He wanted the best for his daughter. She would never fear the demons from across the sea. He would make sure of it.

"Then what have you been doing all this time?" he asked his voice cold and unwavering like ice.

She paused for a moment, what to say? It was bad enough she couldn't lie but she was never prepared for this question. She just smiled dumbly and said "Nothing much"

It was always the same. He would give her a cold, angry stare and then dismiss her as if she was nobody. Did a normal father treat his children this way?

She hated playing the dumb game but she knew he wouldn't bother with her if she wasn't any use to him. That was what she wanted right?

She was supposed to be a boy. She knew that was just another reason he resented her, on top of the fact that she was a mirror image of her mother. Now he had no one but her to take over his kingdom but a worthless girl. One day she would find a way to make him proud so he would see that she wasn't dumb. Until then she would keep her mouth shut...

As she turned to leave, she heard the screaming and shouting of the guards and then the door burst open.

A young woman ran in a glittering sword drawn. She ran past the guards towards Leon. She looked into Kagome's eyes and for a moment their gaze locked and Kagome read the fear and saddness in her heart but it was for but a split second.

She wouldn't go down without a fight. The moment the bastards had unlocked her chains she broke free grabbed the nearest sword and headed straight for the throne room. She would kill the son of a bitch and end the war. But when she saw that girl she thought she might be a servant or a prisoner. The sadness (unknown to her but Kagome's sad cause of lack of fatherly love) in her eyes sugested she wanted to be free as well. That did it! she would kill him for her and anyone else who had died at his hands.

Just as she lunged forward someone grabbed the back of her head, grabbing a handful of hair, and jerked hard, pulling her back. She was caught again just when she was so close. As a fist connected with her head she thought 'Someone help me' then her world went dark.

"This scrawny bitch broke loose well dispose of her my lord." Said the guard who had grabbed her and was now holding her limply in his arms.

Kagome gapped did he mean to kill her?

"No!" Said her father strenly. He stepped down from his throne and examined her.

She was young with pale white skin and delicate fingers, her black silky hair tied behind her back. She wore the clothes of a demon exterminator and even had one of their special masks. she didn't look like an ordanary human soldier. He smiled because she was only human she would easily be 'persauded' to talk "Take her to the dungeon for questioning and if she doesn't talk..." He trailed off but the guard, and Kagome, knew what he meant.

Kagome couldn't believing this. The girl (or woman) was only around her age and she was determined not to talk. Kagome had seen what happened to people in that room in the dungeon. When she snuck around. the things they did were to horrible and disgusting to even believe. she was appalued to think her father could hurt another human, demons were one thing. Some were lucky and came out with only serious injures but others, the ones who wouldn't talk... they came out completly mad od dead.

Kagome didn't want this to happen to this girl. She had to take a stand.

As the guard dragged the girl away kagome moved between them and the door "Stop it!" she wasn't looking at the guard but straight at her father. Her eyes filled with determination and a hint of fear. She was afraid of what she was doing but just pushed it to the back of her mind. If she gave in to her fear she would lose.

"What?" came her fathers reply as he turned. He seemed to stare straight through her.

"This is not right!" she growled and held her arms out to stop the guard attempting to pass with the girl.

He would not dare touch her in case he made Leon angry. People were stepping back hiding, they understood the prices you have to pay for talking to the king in such a way.

"You hurt innocent people while your people starve and die" she pointed to the cowering people "they are to affraid to even ask their king for help. You kill and slaughter other people without even knowing why or what their intentions are." She couldn't believe what she was saying the words just formed in her mouth.

"How dare you?" Began Leon, he was furious.

"No father how dare you! For not looking past your grief. You can't even look at me. Mum is dead it's time to let go and i'm not her i'm not going to leave you" she whispered the last sentence but he heard.

He turned away ashamed, something deep down knew she was right but another stronger part was growing in rage.

"You are so blind. Let this girl go make peace. Is that so hard?"

The moment she said it she regreted it. That was the last straw. He advanced across the room and grabbed her hand harshly. "You know nothing about peace. i do everything i can to protect you and my people. Would you like it if those heathen demons came in here? They would kill everyone you love and what do you think they would do to you?"

She continued to look into his eyes summoning as much courage as she had but felt her resolve crumble 'he is right' she thought

"That girl may be human but she is another rat like the rest of those demons who would slaughter you without another thought" he shook her and then realesed her hand. it had gone a little red and would bruise.

"But..." Was all she squeaked out. Then she turned and ran from the room.

She ran through the hall hating herself.

She pushed open her large door and jumped on the bed and cried. "I couldn't do it. I couldn't stand up to him or tell him he was wrong. I was too weak or maybe I was just wrong... Maybe I should just give up..."

"If you give up then we are all lost" Said a gentle voice from behind her.

She hadn't noticed her door open slightly and the little creature that crawled in. It had gingerly jumped on her bed beside her and was staring at her its cute little face filled with warm affection.

"Who said that?" she looked around her room, there was a large wardrorbe and a full length mirrior and a table with jewelery but no one.

Then she heard a soft mewing and looked down. There on her bed was a two tailed cat youkai.

She almost screamed but when it began to like her hand gently its purr began to sooth her. For some reason she began to feel stronger, braver. What was this?

"Do not worry" said a voice in her head "You know what you need to do, i can only help you"

She remembered the fear and saddness in the girls (i think last chapter i called her a woman its still the same person) eyes as she had run to stab her father. That poor girl... She would come out as nothing but an empty shell or a raving lunatic by morning if Kagome didn't do something.

She got up. yes! she would do something. She wouldn't let this go on any longer. She would rescue her and hide her. All she needed was a plan a good plan. If she was caught she could be killed for treason.

Suddenly she began to feel the strong pull of sleep and before she could do anything she had layed her head down and fallen asleep...

----------------

She felt herself beginning carried away but her head hurt to much and she couldn't get her head clear or think.

Little did she know about the horrors she would face as she was tossed into a cell and the iron door was closed and it wouldn't open for a while...

Would she even come out sane?

a/n: this girl (if you haven't guest who it is) is the eqivalant or simon from the book. That little cat demon is Kirara (or Kilala). I wont write the next chapter until i get five reviews. I already have 3 just 2 more.
I will try to make these chapter long and later i will have mushy bits. (i can't help it). Tell me how bad you want it.

Of course their will be an evil guy. No story is complete without one but i will also do a bit of overcoming differences to be together, stuff.
