Because of Her


The sunrise lighting the pink room with rays of white and soft tones of yellow. She quietly flung her feet over the bed to rest on the soft carpet floor. She had had a nightmare consisting of him leaving her. Yet he wouldn't really be leaving her since he never promised to stay, that thought killed her.


She was confused. Was he in love with her? Still after all the things she did that made no sense but only seemed to hurt him and the ones that cared of him. Sometimes she felt she was her replacement only there so he could pretend that Kikyo had never left.


Her soul was marred, broken, bent, and tore at the thought.


Kagome got dressed and went to the well. Packed and ready she jumped in letting the reverse of time swipe through her body. Softly she landed. Once out the well she traveled to the in the direction where InuYasha was pinned, the god tree. Halfway there she stopped and sat down on the grass.


This was the place she fell.


It was the exact place where Kikyo received the fatal blow she thought given to her by InuYasha, it however, was Naraku's hand that killed her. Kagome was her and yet wasn't. God how she loved him, she mused. Myouga once said that she reminded him of Iyazoi and Kikyo was Sayuka, and lastly InuYasha was InuTashio. Well, Iyazoi got the guy right? Then he died three years later. The rate it was going when three years would pass she would get the guy then Kikyo would be reborn again.


Kagome let out a bitter laugh.


She was tired and she silently decided to let him go. Kagome continued towards the god tree. It was getting dark, already she could see the moon. How many times had that lonely moon watched her, how many times had Kagome stared that same moon down? Too many times.


I'll always be by your side.


And she would, for as long as he would have her, and she wanted that to be a long time. There was a rustling and InuYasha walked over to her.


"Your early."


She was always late, if she had fallen through the well a little before her birthday then she could have had more alone time with him.


"I had nothing to do. No test." He sat down next to her. She loved him so much, how much did he love her if not any?


"Why did you leave?" He asked, she wanted to say because I knew you had run off to see Kikyo. Although it was his choice.


"Why'd you run to her?" She already knew the answer.


"I have an obligation." He looked at the ground, never into her eyes.


"I have steady ground." He glanced at her, asking what she meant.


"I...I don't know what's going to happen here. I know what going to happen in my time. It's safe." And she knew that he knew what she meant. He got up and extended her his hand while looking gruffly in the other direction.


She took his hand.


Kikyo could never have his trust. Only his word and his love. Kagome smiled she knew she had his love also, it was new and young and thin not heavy and ancient and intense, but it was better.


A whole lot better.


Because no one could pull a hood over their eyes, thanks to Kikyo, they would not make any mistakes. So what if InuYasha had to put their love on hold for his first and only. When he was ready it would be so much better because he would not fall into pass traps and she wasn't Kikyo. She was emotionally strong, Kagome was never scarred.


"Just because you don't know what's going to happen here doesn't mean it's bad." His words were soft and light, yes she thought, he most likely spoke to Kikyo in that tone, but he never said those words to her.


That's all she needed.


In his own way, he gave her his promise.


She was happy.


Kikyo had once said, that Kagome had healed InuYasha wounds, the one's that Kikyo was supposed to close.


Stripped down bare, Kagome was Kikyo, the true Kikyo the naked Kikyo.


Stripped down bare, Kikyo was Kagome. They were two people in one person, they rubbed off on each other, maybe that's why they were so different yet in different measurements alike.


This time InuYasha would chose Kagome and she give him her all when he was ready.


Right now he could only carry little pieces of her till he placed the past love somewhere.


Then she'd be ready.


She'll always love him, and he would her. Not because Kagome was Kikyo or Kikyo was Kagome but because he fell in love all over again.


"Ready to go home Kagome?" He said not even noticing how he implied that they had a home together.


She was content.






/AN: I've always wondered what Kagome really thought about her infamous love triangle, and the whole odd take on how Kagome was Kikyo and yet wasn't.
