"People leave imprints on our lives, shaping who we become in much the same way that a symbol is pressed into the page of a book to tell you who it comes from. Dogs, however, leave paw prints on our lives and our souls, which are as unique as fingerprints in every way."

Ch.6
They were resting in a glade at the present time. The mighty Lord having just ordered his vassal to retrieve some fresh water along with fish for his charge. The wisteria and bloodgood maples blended nicely with the Hakone grass, making for a subtle pleasing scent and lovely coloring with the Japanese Beech acting as a backdrop.
Rin was enjoying resting under one of the shade trees as the sun sank slowly towards the horizon, watching her Lords hair blow in the light breeze while he settled on the ground under a different tree.
The brilliant colors of the sky changed the hues of his hair little by little until he was gracefully seated completely under his chosen tree, the shade blocking the show of light so that his beautiful fall of hair went back to its original white with a sheen of silver. He was occupied with his thoughts once more she noted. A colorful caterpillar caught her attention, discharging any notions of her Lord from her head.
It had been four days since the death and subsequent revival of the miko. Four long days in which he had discreetly scrutinized his young ward, desiring the knowledge of what had possessed her to behave the way she had with the priestess Kagome.
Wondering just why she had wanted him to touch the older girl, why she had smiled the way she had, once he had done so. Wondering how his young charge had seemed to know exactly what was going on and what would help or hinder. Wanting to know why him speaking and his touch had changed the way the miko had been acting, because it was quite obvious that was what had happened.
Had the little girl had some sort of premonition? And if this was the case, would it happen again?
His eyes traveled to Rin, yet again. He wanted to know, and at the same time... he didn't. He wasn't even sure as to why he kept thinking on it, but he did.
He focused away from Rin, somewhere off in the distance.
Unfortunately, he also kept thinking of blue-silver eyes with hints of blue-black running through them, eyes that had looked almost through him at one point, only for that look to change to something else, total focus, with something profound and genuine. Like she was virtually seeing him and what he was made of, for the first time ever.
There was no doubt, that was the most preposterous thought ever born in his head. He snorted lightly to himself. 'what drivel.'
He rubbed his fingers together absentmindedly, remembering the texture of smooth, cool skin. The feeling like silk 'under' the pads of his fingers, feeling like the sensation had gone much deeper than the surface of his skin, branding him. He narrowed his eyes, looking at his ward again.
"Rin, why did you want me to touch the miko? How did you know..." he trailed off, not used to asking others, even his companions, for anything, even information. Not knowing the answers for himself did not sit well with him. And having to ask a pup was even more galling.
She was looking at him in slight confusion, and she smelled surprised.
Her eyes unfocused as if she was remembering something. "Because, my lord, after the wolves...." she swallowed hard. Pausing for a moment. "The same thing happened to me when you found me. When you touched me it... brought me back completely from the darkness. I fallowed the sound of you, the feel of you?" She sounded matter of fact, but at the same time, like she though he had already known this information, and was confused as to why he was asking her about it.
Now, he was confused. The sound of him? He did not remember speaking to her at all. As for the feel of him, he had knelt to help her into a sitting position... but that didn't sound like what she was speaking of. She talked as if it was something much deeper. He rubbed his fingers together again.
His eyebrows that had been slightly raised, lowered, his eyes narrowing again with the action. "What did I say to you that day?" He was past feeling uncomfortable having to ask a pup questions he didn't know the answers to. Now he was starting to become uncomfortable for a completely different reason.
She smiled at him, a beautific smile that lit her whole being from the inside out it seemed. "You told me to fallow you of course! You said you would protect me. I could feel that you meant it too, you were so warm and strong! When you took my hand to lead me out of the dark, I felt it here too." Sesshomaru had a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach as he watched her place her small hands over the region of her heart like she was holding something precious to her...

Kagome walked in silence, The rest of the group was silent as well. They had been walking almost non stop, fallowing the tugging sensation she felt in her chest. The others were worried, she could tell, she just couldn't seem to get up the energy to reassure anyone besides shippo, who had been stuck to her like glue. She just didn't feel right... and it wasn't just lack of sleep either.
Shippo appeared to be guarding her from everything, including their friends. Especially inuyasha, who had gotten loud with her only a few times in the last five days, less than normal, but when it did happen it still made her jump, she wasn't even sure why, kagome knew Inuyasha would never hurt her on purpose.
Shippo had bared his little fangs more than once at the half demon. Inuyasha had not charged after him or bonked him on the head as was normal though, and Shippo had not hidden himself behind kagome, keeping her between him and the half-breed as was customary. They were walking on eggshells around her because of how jumpy and jittery she was... but she couldn't seem to help it. Something was wrong, or different... she just didn't know what. Well, besides the fact that she had died. She grimaced slightly at the thought.
Inuyasha glared at the little kit walking by the girl from the future, his gaze softened slightly only to harden once again, although not into the glare he had shot at the kit just seconds before.
She was barely sleeping or eating which was one of the things inuyasha had gotten loud about. She wasn't bugging him nonstop about breaks in walking either, if anything she seemed to want to keep moving at an almost nonstop pace. It had been the others who had put a stop to their travels when it grew dark, they got tired or in need of food. The whole sorry situation was just not right!
He had expected her to want to go and see her family as was part of the status quo after a stressful situation for her, she hadn't even mentioned going home. She hadn't said anything!
He did know she was having terrible dreams when she did sleep for more than twenty minutes at a time, which wasn't often. The first night she had woken everyone with her screaming, thrashing and tears. He didn't know what to do, he, miroku and even sango had tried talking to her. The only one who hadn't was Shippo, whom she was keeping the closet, she had about squeezed the kit in half that first night.
She jerked at unexpected noises and even some of the expected ones when awake, her eyes when they were not unfocused jerked in something akin to fear. Even with the others there. Even with him there! He sighed, looking away, he felt worthless, like he was failing her, his best friend.
"I feel the jewel shard, it's coming closer to us." Kagome voiced, sounding only slightly shaky. It was expected after her last experience in battle but it still bothered the others to one degree or another.
