Demires: City Of The Damned

One: Inuyasha

I've never felt this kind of evil before. It's something I've always feared of feeling, to be completely honest.

Clutching Kagome closer to me as we walk through the crowded night club, I can hear the beat of the blaring music ringing in my ears. The mortals here are packed together, and suddenly I remember that I haven't fed tonight; neither has Kagome. But something - something very distinct and very strange - is holding me back. There is a certain presence that has filled the club - a very uncomfortable presence - and I glance over to Kagome to see if she's reacting in the same way.

She feels my eyes on her and looks up at me, giving me a small smile of reassurance.

We continue to push through the crowds of people, both of us feeling the sweat that rolls off the humans' bodies. It's disgusting. Though human blood may have a nice scent, the rest of a human does not.

Kagome taps me on the shoulder and I follow her hand that's pointing to the northeast corner of the club.

"Isn't that him?" she says, shouting over the loud music.

Great. She's found him. I only hoped I'd have more time to recompose myself.

I nod, letting her lead me to where my worst nightmare awaits. But I won't let him think I'm afraid. He can think I'm afraid when hell freezes over.

About fifteen feet away from our destination, Kagome turns to look at me, stopping us from moving.

"Inuyasha, look at me. It's going to be fine. All you need to do is talk to him." She smiles and gives me a quick kiss. "Now relax, and come on."

She pulls me along, and finally, I'm standing face to face with the one I hate most; the one who made me what I am.

"Well, if it isn't my son," he says in an arrogant tone.

"Don't call me that," I say through clenched teeth.

"But why not? It is I who created you."

"Because he's not your son, and I don't him to be called you 'son,' either," Kagome snaps, her eyes flashing to a bright enough red to blind.
"Well, well, Inuyasha," he says, rising from his seat at the corner table. "Who is this? Your pet?" He runs his fingers down Kagome's arm and she jerks away with a deathly glare in her eyes. "Well, as feisty as she may be, you sure have done a nice job with her." A smirk plays on his lips.

"Damn it, Kenjin! She's not my play thing, I haven't done any sort of 'job' with her, and I don't own her. She's my mate ," I nearly scream.

I glance at Kagome, who has a slight blush tinting her cheeks, and place a protective arm around her shoulders. The further away from Kenjin she is, the better.

"How long has she been tied to you?"

"A month," Kagome says.

And it has been a month; ever since the night after Kagome's first mortal feeding.

"Proof?" Kenjin says. "I don't believe a woman as beautiful as her would choose to be eternally tied to you."

A threatening growl is my response, and Kagome places her hand on my arm to calm me.

"If he wants proof, I'll show him," she says.

I watch her slide her left shoulder out of her shirt exposing her pale flesh, revealing the mark of the mating. She brings her fingers to trace over the kanji engraving of my name, then drops her hand for full view of the mark.

"So it is true," Kenjin says as Kagome pulls her shirt up over her shoulders.

I nod. "Now that that's over, let me talk to you about the situation at hand."

"And what might that be?" he asks, a skeptical look in his eyes.

"I've heard that you are planning on moving the vampires' main location to Tokyo; in other words, here."

"Well, you have heard correctly."

"Why? They have no place here!" Kagome says.

"This is demire territory," I snarl.

"There is no such thing as 'territory.' We vampires live where we choose."

"Bull shit you can choose," I reply angrily. "This is our place. There are hundreds - maybe even thousands - of demires spread across Japan. How do expect to move the vampires here and have enough him lives to give? And more importantly, how can you assure both races with not be discovered?"

"I don't plan to keep both races here," Kenjin explains all too calmly, pausing for effect. "The demires will soon cease to exist. And surely, you of all people, Inuyasha, know how I can and will diminish the demires by killing a single individual." He glares at me, and before I have a chance to respond, says, "Now I will leave. My decision is final."

Kenjin turns to leave the club through the back door. "Oh, and Inuyasha?" he says before leaving. "Welcome to the new Tokyo; the future City Of The Damned."
