InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Demon Crest (Rating may change) ❯ =The Mission= ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Story author: Zanzo

A/N: Okay, here's the first chapter/episode of my story, thank you all so much for the encouraging reviews and… one review did catch my attention, the one by Kaitlin:

You said that you don't like the idea of Inuyasha being the villain, well I'll answer that one before anymore people get more funny ideas: Sure, Inuyasha sounded like a villain but don't jump to conclusions, I told you that I have twisted some of they're roles rather… dramatically but just wait until you see the results, you'll like them, I guarantee it!

Oh yes, one more thing before we move on, I may not be as good as writing action scenes as my buddy Zelix but I will try so don't be surprised if the action scenes aren't up to your level of taste… (I just loved his action scenes in Dark Soul of the Future, White Heart of the Past and Silver Winds of Passion) I haven't reviewed them because I already know how they end, he told me, so he asked me not to review… sounds confusing but don't ask… anyway, as I was saying, I may not be as good as those scenes but I can guarantee they are going to be bloody… also, there will be names, techniques, locations and possibly scenes from other animes and movies… since I can't make this 100% original no matter how hard I try… so please, don't flame me for that.

Well, that's all, enjoy the story!

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha or any of the other characters, I only own the characters I have made up just for this story.

Episode 1: =The Mission =

Location: Village of Janole

Category: C

[Guilds: Machine.]

History: Janole is a village located near the south-eastern coastline of the continent, it is surrounded by forestry and to the south about 3 days away is the port town of Harola. Janole is one of the few villages in the south-eastern part of the continent that survived the time when Inuyasha was alive, the village is not poor since if you come to the port town and wish to proceed north, you must pass through the village to re-supply.The forests are mostly peaceful except during the Full moon, that's the time when the wild life there becomes… well, `wild', literally. Inside the forest is an old abandoned shrine, which is a good tourist attraction. The town has no magic users what so ever but since the people needed machines to maintain they're large crops and plantings, the machine guild has taken interest into this village and set up a small branch office there to supply and maintain the people with machines and also guard the people from monsters and wild animals, as well as bandits.

=No one's POV=

It was dark and almost midnight, at the centre of the village was the machine guilds branch office, it was a tall three floored building made of metal and such. Tonight there were lights on the top floor and inside the large room where the light was coming from was a large group of people, a group of 12 people from which 10 were dressed in tactical battle outfits, almost like a SWAT team, (I will use modern day things from our world to describe things, okay?) with the exception that instead of the word SWAT written on they're body armours there was the word: [T.M.F.F].

The 10 members that bore that word were sitting at chairs lined up in front of a desk where a middle aged man sat with his fingers intertwined under his chin and his personal assistant, a young woman was standing to his right, holding a remote control like looking device, the room was silent for a moment until the man behind the desk… or better called guild boss, since he was in charge of this branch office, he said while lifting his eyes to look at the team: "You must be wondering why you were sent here?" The one who answered was the teams captain, he could be identified because his uniform had three red stars in a triangle formation at the point where the heart was, he responded with a voice that belonged to a man in his late 30'ties and held a lot of experience: "From what the recon report said, the bandits that have made the shrine in the forest they're hideout have begun to make small raids into the village, at first you people thought that you could handle it on your own but after a failed attempt to storm they're hideout you had to call for the recon and confirm if it was indeed out of your hands… and after they confirmed it was, we were sent here. So now, can you tell us just who we are up against?"

One of the other team members looked at the captain with a smirk and thought: `That's our captain alright, cool and straight to the point… *sigh*… I wish I could be more like him but… damn.' After that thought, he returned his attention back to the guild boss, who's name was Henri by the way.

Henri said with a nod: "Very well… it began about 2 weeks ago, when we first received a message from the city of Kolgon (Category B) that a notorious bandit group called `Genduro' was in the area and we should be ready for raids, two days after the message arrived they indeed did arrive here but instead of attacking the town, they took over the shrine in the woods and have been there for the past week, making only minimal raids and attacks here… they were surprisingly well organized during these `small' raids and didn't leave almost any kind of damage behind them… after a few days of this waiting and defending strategy we decided to take offensive tactics but… we couldn't even reach the shrine before a retreat was ordered, we suffered damages to our staff and security forces, most are only wounded but 3 of our security team are dead and the rest are still recovering from the assault…"

He took a breather and motioned for the personal assistant towards the large projector at the back of the room, after she nodded she pressed one of the buttons on the remote control and the lights dimmed out, after adjusting the projector properly she turned it on and the white screen to the left of the desk was projected with the image of the forest surrounding the shrine, some points such as the river were marked with tactical marks and such…

Henri began to explain: "The area around the shrine is thick with forestry, animals will not be a problem this time since last night the moon was full, they are most likely resting now… but avoid the areas we marked since even if they are not active, if you step into they're territories they might see you as a threat and attack to defend they're mates and pups. The recon troops you people sent have marked all possible spots were the bandits might have set up watchers but we are not sure how accurate they are anymore because after the failed assault they might have changed them… Also, what some of the survivors from the assault told us, the bandits use weapons ranging from regular bows to rifles and are extremely well organised… which does bother us since until only a month ago that bandit group was said to be a savage one using brute force rather than tactics… that is all we have gathered so far, the rest is up to you people, good luck." With that, Henri and his assistant left the room, leaving the team to conjure up the plan of action.

What none of them didn't notice though, was that a weird `shadow' like looking figure was waiting just outside the window, listening intently… and after 2 more hours, it silently left… moving like a liquid shadow through the ground…

*Meanwhile, inside the said forest's shrine. *

`Genduro' gang, a bandit group of 20 people was encamped in the shrine grounds, drinking, feasting… just having fun. The bandits had mixed sort of clothing, some of them had old military uniforms, some had old knight like armours… in other words, this was a mixed group of many different people but they all had one thing in common: in the chest part of they're clothing was a golden symbol of a desert scorpion.

Most of them were talking that they couldn't wait until the major raid for the town would begin, some of them were already talking about which woman they would fuck and what would be of value to take… oddly, none of them were concerned about the fact they were messing with the machine guild.

But, three of them were talking about something that was rather… interesting: (I will refer them as bandit A, B and C since I can't come up with any names.) all three of them were young and shared a common military uniform, they were deserters from the military and were now bandits, they were sitting in front of they're own small fire and were talking, starting with bandit B: "You know guys? I think that… I think our boss is losing it." That caught both of the other two bandits attention and they looked at him with worry.

Bandit C was the one to respond: "Don't say that out loud, idiot! If he hears you…" bandit B: "I know that… (sigh) it's just that… what are we doing here? There's a nice, wealthy town with beautiful women right outside this forest and all we do is make small raids in order to get barely enough to eat and then come back here to this stinking shrine… I mean… what's with all this… `tactical' shit?" Bandit A was the one to reply this time: "I think I know what you mean, since when did it become our style to be like this?"

Bandit C sighed and replied: "I know… I've noticed it too but just kept quiet about it… It seems like it all started when we were hired by those… creepy people, we were hired to keep the people of the town from coming to this shrine but why are we forbidden from attacking the town? It would be so much more simple to just pillage the place… what was our leader thinking? When did we, the proud `Genduro' gang become a pack of mercenary dogs?"

Bandit A was nodded and said: "I think we should just say screw our orders and raid the town, then if those `employers' of ours have something to complain about, we'll just kill them… (grins) or we could just kill them anyway as a bonus…" All three started laughing and kept saying similar things until two of them stopped while the third just kept laughing, when he stopped laughing he wondered what the silence was all about… that is until a sudden realisation hit him and he turned his head slowly around only to see they're leaders face staring down at him with an evil smirk.

The leader was a man in his early 30'ties, brown hair, blue eyes, scarred and tanned skin, one eye was replaced with a machine eye, making it look rather intimidating and he wore an old T.M.F.F body armour suit, his name was Bason. He looked down on all three of them and said: "So you have a complaint about how I run things huh?" he said that with an evil smirk that promised pain for the wrong answer.

Bandit A, B and C were all sweating, none of them knew what to say… until by some miracle bandit A gathered whatever spine he could muster and said: "Ye… yeah i… I do actually…" The other two looked at him with the look saying that does he have a death wish?! Bason simply raised an eyebrow and looked at him, telling him to continue, so he did: "Bo…boss, why… why are we working for… those creeps? When did we become dogs for hire? (A mocking way to refer someone as a mercenary) Just three weeks ago we were fine but since we were `hired' for this… shit job, many are agreeing that you are losing your edge, boss so…"

The two other bandits were pale, they were already trying to come up with some kind of memory speeches for they're soon-to-be dead brother… (They refer themselves as brothers, all of them since they are like a family.) the boss looked at him dead in the eyes with his own, it was creepy staring at that machine eye like that… then, after what felt like forever, his expression changed into one of amusement and he began to chuckle, this made all three of them sweat in nervousness, until he finally stopped and said with sigh: "You have a point there…" This made all three of them look at him with a blank expression.

Bason continued while staring at the fire: "I admit, it is shameful that we are dogs for hire at the moment but… those people that gave me the offer… they scare me. Something about them just isn't normal, they also made it quite clear with they're presence alone that should I have said no, I wouldn't be standing here anymore…" He took a deep breath before continuing: "I know it is irritating taking orders from them, but just bear with it for now, as soon as they have done whatever they came here to do, we will extract heavy revenge for this… not to mention that town, we will pillage and plunder it until there's nothing left…" This made all three of the other bandits grin, they were also relieved that they're boss hasn't lost his edge, he was just playing along for now…

Then, Bandit A asked: "Boss, should I put the word around to get ready for a nasty backstabbing attack?" Bason (Boss if you haven't realised yet) replied while rubbing his chin: "Yeah, put the word out but make sure those `employers' don't get the hint about any of this…" All three nodded and the boss smirked before leaving.

*Inside the shrine.*

Two figures were inside the shrine, or more like in the large chamber beneath the shrine, one of the figures was sitting on a large rock while spinning a huge looking Naginata (It's two big swords attached together at the bottom of they're grips, making it look like a spear with a blade the both ends.) above his head, the figure holding it was a man, a huge man, he wasn't wearing a shirt but he did have pants which were Japanese style hakamas, (spell check) he also had two massive chains rolled on both his wrists tightly, due to the dim light his features could not be seen but he was very muscular and looked dangerous.

The other figure was dressed in total white kimono with black and grey outlines all over it, it also had four Kanji's: 2 on the front side, 2 on the back side, they covered most of the Kimono, the four Kanji's stood for: Earth, Fire, Wind and Water, his features were also un-readable but he looked young, yet cold. He stood at some weird looking magic/summon ring that glowed faintly with a violet coloured light, the ring was at the centre of the large chamber that looked like a large burial ground… but with no tombstones or crosses to mark the graves… the only evidence it was a burial ground was the fact the ground was extremely smooth but held the signs it was man made… then there were four statues at the each end of the chamber: The statues of a Dog, Lion, Tiger and Dragon, made of pure white stone…

The tall figure that was sitting on one of the large rocks suddenly stopped spinning the weapon he held… it was named "Garador"… as I was saying, he suddenly stopped spinning it and slammed it on the ground, making the chamber tremble a little and shouted to the other figure: "Hey! How much longer do I have to sit on my ass here?! How goddamn hard can it be to perform a simple task like this?!" his voice sounded almost… metallic, like echoing out of steel… the other figure merely turned his head to his direction and his eyes made contact with his own… the taller figure felt a cold shiver ran in his spine, those eyes always made him feel cold sweat…

The younger figure answered with an emotionless voice: "Kessai, (The tall one's name) you know as well as I that we cannot draw attention to ourselves, just because you are frustrated does not mean we can go on a killing spree… the plan is still in it's early stages, drawing attention to us or it would be our un-doing… and this magic is not easy to perform, the thing we seek here is more ancient than all of humanity put together, so bringing it out is not a easy matter."

Kessai regained his composure and said: "Hrmh… Kall, you're always so damn uptight, that's what I hate about you… magic, *spits* what a pain in the ass…" Kall merely returned his gaze back on the ring and placing his fingers so it looked somewhat like he was praying, just before he could start though, he opened his eyes again and said without moving: "Kureimaru, back already?" Kessai raised an eyebrow and then looked behind him to see a weird, ninja like looking figure right there, he jumped a bit and shouted: "Kureimaru! Don't sneak up like that, you scared the shit out of me…" Kall merely thought to himself: `Dumb bastard… sneaking around IS Kureimaru's ability and purpose…'

Kureimaru didn't speak a word, he just walked to Kall and gave him a scroll, making Kessai think: `Man… I don't know which one is creepier, Kall or Kureimaru… Kureimaru doesn't ever speak while Kall never loosens up… you'd think they're brothers or something…' Then, right after handing over the scroll, Kureimaru just disappeared, just like that, in a blink of an eye, making Kessai think again: `Yup, Kureimaru is DEFINETELY more creepier… how can he disappear like that?' There was a moment of silence as Kall studied the scroll's context, after closing it he took a deep breath of frustration and breathed it out… after a few more minutes Kessai asked impatiently: "Well? What is it? A letter from you husband or something…?" Kessai snickered after that one, he had never seen Kall with a woman before so there were only two options: Either he so cold he would never find women attractive or then he was gay… Kessai voted for the later one.

Kall merely played an interesting fantasy in his head where he tortured Kessai until the brink of insanity… he hated that prick… but his face remained un-changed as he answered: "It seems like you will get a chance to get your frustration out of you chest after all…" Kessai's eyes widened a bit and he asked: "Does that mean…?" Kall nodded and said: "It seems like the T.M.F.F is here, which means the guild is taking our… `decoy' seriously… you know what we must do now." Kessai rose up and took his `Garador' of the ground said with a menacing smile: "No survivors…"

To be continued…

A/N: sorry it took so long, I am working on two fics at the same time so… well I'll update Demonium next. Anyway, reviews would be helpful and also, if you're confused about what's going on or if there is something you need to complain or ask about, ask it in the review… one thing though: if you post a question WITHOUT the review, I will delete that review. So if you ask something review as well, answers will be posted at the beginning of the next chapter. See ya.

[Guilds]: Simply put, the Guild is like a military, except that while the military is meant for big conflicts the Guilds are meant to keep smaller things such as monster problems under control as well as trading routes, there are four main Guilds: Machine, Slayer, Magic and War Guild, all with a different purpose, though some of these Guilds don't get along with one another too well… like Machine and Magic Guild… All of them have a HQ in the A category cities, which they're employees or members can only enter if they have proper clearance or status in the Guild…more details about that later.

[Machine Guild]: The Guild mentioned here is the machine guild, as the name implies, they have the control over anything that has something to do with machines such as guns, vehicles, spare parts etc. They are also somewhat of a `tactical force' meaning that they have people that do fighting rather efficiently, ranging from tactical soldiers to high level combat machines. They are to some people a `peace keeper force' they deal mostly with bandit and monster problems.

[T.M.F.F]: Tactical Machine Firearm Force, that's what it stands for, it's the Machine Guilds trained tactical force to deal with situations the regular members of the guild cannot handle, so they are only sent when regular procedures do not work anymore or the situation is too much to handle. They're dispatch locations are in B category towns, so if you need them you contact the nearest `base' and they will send a recon force and if they determine that the situation is indeed out of they're hands, they will send a request for `heavy artillery'.
